Indonesian Architect Favors Natural Materials "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

Yu Sing, an Indonesian architect, relies on local materials when constructing homes and public spaces. Natural houses are no longer the first choice for peoples homes, Yu Sing said. The state even calls them uninhabitable homes.

Yu Sing founded Studio Akanoma in 2008 to showcase the design of low-cost housing using natural materials. A year later he published Dreams of Affordable Homes, which covers his design process and shows a breakdown of development costs, which are often low when opting for local building materials.

Studio Akanoma cites the decline in the use of nipa, a mangrove palm, in roofing. Today most new homes opt for more expensive zinc sheets because the nipa palms are widely seen as backward. Some believe the palm fronds will last only one year before a replacement thatch is required, but nipa, when thatched correctly, can ensure long term waterproofing, cooler temperatures and quieter living conditions compared with the disruptive patter of rain on a hot zinc roof.

In 2016 Yu Sing and colleagues designed the simple kitchen from bamboo for a local womens group. The kitchen was a place to learn and hone their craft, producing food from wild plants and locally grown produce. The kitchens bamboo roof appears inverted, but it is a deliberate technique to retain rain for drinking water. The kitchen walls are made from a composite of soil, rice straw, rice husk, limestone and cow manure.

A building made of bamboo at the Turetogo Bamboo Campus in southern Indonesia.

Bamboo has been used for food and shelter for centuries across these islands, but when Yu Sing hired carpenters to build the structure, he found bamboo was almost a novel commodity for the tradesmen. They said it was their first time as carpenters to have a lot of bamboo to make bamboo constructions, he said.

Congressional UFO Hearings Disclosure Were Not Alone "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

What are the revelations of the UFO hearings? Deep dive and implications.

With the US Congressional Hearings that took place this week, weve entered new territory. The world wont go back to what it was we have official disclosure entered on the record about non-human technologies, biological entities in possession of dark programs, and that weve been visited since the 1930s by off-planet entities.

This is according to the witness testimony that is on the official record and obtained under oath, which means under penalty of perjury. Critically, from our perspective on the weaponization of the UFO card as a means to creating the New World Order, the UFO phenomenon has three parts: The governments coverup part The black budget The public disclosure part In pitting disclosure-demanding citizens against secrecy-maintaining governments, the elite are creating a conflict that will find resolution when the New World Order and Disclosure are publicly unveiled. This is probably why Chuck Schumer and Marco Rubio and other high profile cabal puppets have gotten behind disclosure recently. We know that the alien invasion card is the last act of the cabal. And the time to execute the plan is upon us. From this perspective, the Rockefeller Plan is clear that they will attempt to consolidate global power under the threat of an alien invasion. I personally t...

Bitcoin Rally May Not Resume Until This Happens "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin has continued to stagnate recently as another recovery move has failed to prosper. So heres an indicator that may hint when a break could happen.

Bitcoin Rally May Not Resume Until The Stablecoin Market Cap Goes Up

Around the start of this week, Bitcoin observed a sharp plunge that had taken the assets price from the $30,000 level down to the $29,000 mark. A couple of days back, however, the coin had started surging again and had reclaimed the $26,600 level.

This uplift in the price had come as the US Fed had announced a 25 bps interest rate hike, but before long, the recovery efforts had run out of steam, and now, the cryptocurrency has already retraced its gains from the rally.

Bitcoin Price Chart

Earlier, Bitcoin had been stuck in a phase of stagnation above the $30,000 level for more than a month, but with the plunge in the price, this streak had been broken.

The asset now sticking near the $29,000 level may mean, however, that volatility hasnt truly returned for the asset yet, as it still continues to consolidate, just around a different level. When a true break away from this stagnation may happen and the rally would return could possibly depend on the total supply of all the stablecoins.

As explained by an analyst in a CryptoQuant post, range-breaking price rises in Bitcoin this year have generally only come whenever the stablecoin supply has registered an increase.

Bitcoin Stablecoin Supply

As the quant has marked in the chart, the major price increases in the past few months have generally preceded a sharp local increase in the supply of the stablecoins.

Usually, an increase in the stablecoin supply can suggest two things. First, there may be a fresh injection of capital happening into the market, as investors ask for more of these fiat-tied tokens to be minted.

And second, some holders of other coins like Bitcoin may be selling their coins to seek the relative safety that the stablecoins offer. Either way, such investors who hold their capital in the form of stables do so because they eventually plan to dip (back) into the volatile side of the...

Sinad OConnors 1992 Saturday Night Live Photo-Ripping Controversy Explained "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Sinad OConnors 1992 Saturday Night Live Photo-Ripping Controversy Explained

Screenshots from Sinead O'Connor's 1992 SNL performance

Photo: Screenshot from YouTube

Singer Sinad O'Connor has passed away at age 56. Beat known for her sweeping rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U, O'Connor always believed in speaking her mind and using her platform for the greater good. She expressed her political views in powerful songs such as Black Boys in Mopeds and This Is a Rebel Song, but she sent one of her boldest messages during a live TV performance in 1992 that has now resurfaced since her untimely death. OConnors rallying cry during her 1992 Saturday Night Live performance got her scorching critiques; but, in retrospect, it also confirmed her as an artist ahead of her time.

On October 3, 1992, O'Connor performed a chilling a cappella cover of Bob Marley's War. Taking the producers by surprise, she pulled out a photo of Pope John Paul II. She then tore it into pieces to call out the sexual abuse scandals within the Catholic Church. The singer finished by saying, Fight the real enemy! straight to camera, only to be met with silence in the studio. The audience was clearly left in awe, foreshadowing the backlash she would face afterwards.

Not only did it get her banned from SNL for life, but the guests on the following episodeJoe Pesci and Madonnaeven mocked her actions. A few weeks later, she was was booed at a Bob Dylan tribute concert in New York, where she performed War once again, as to reaffirm her previous action.

Looking back at that moment, she wrote in her autobiography, Rememberings, that it brought her clarity. I feel that having a No. 1 record derailed my career, she stated, and my tearing the photo put me back on the right track. D...

VC Firm Sequoia Capital Slashes Crypto Fund By 65% Amid Bear Market "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Just over a year after launching its crypto fund, venture capital firm Sequoia is now rolling back its investments and taking more of a more careful approach. The firm was making some serious waves when it launched its crypto fund last year in February, signaling that crypto was ready for mainstream VC backing. But now the company has reportedly downsized its cryptocurrency fund by 65% as the crypto winter rages on.

Sequoia Pulls Back On Its Crypto Funding

Sequoia Capital, one of Silicon Valleys most prestigious VC firms, is scaling back its ambitions in the crypto space. After launching a dedicated $585 million crypto fund last year, Sequoia recently announced theyre slashing it by 65% to $200 million.

The firm has also reduced its ecosystem fund by 50%. The fund, which invests in other smaller venture funds and solo investors, is now at $450 million, down from $900 million.

Insiders close to the situation said this is a result of the bear market, which has affected projects across the industry and pulled down prices significantly over the last year.

Why Is Sequoia Taking This Step Now?

Sequoia is known for making investments in crypto companies and had initially announced its funds as part of a larger restructuring effort to increase its investments in the crypto space. The crypto market, however, has seen most projects take a big hit over the last few months and Sequoia wasnt left out, as it has seen a major part of its investment take drastic losses.

The company was particularly affected by the crash of FTX, as it had a $214 million investment in the failed crypto exchange. Rather than spray and pray with a large fund, Sequoia is now tightening its focus.

Crypto total market cap chart from Tradingview.com

According to the report, the companys new investment plan is to pivot toward smaller crypto players. The smaller cryptocurrency fund will now focus more on a select group of startup companies.

With the crypto market taking a major downturn since the announcement of its funds, its no surprise that Sequoia has decided to scale back. Crypto projects, in particular, havent done well in recent times.

According to a recent report by Lattice, a crypto venture fund, only 5% of projects created during the 2021 crypto boom have...

Why This Billionaire Continues To Advocate For Bitcoin Amid Surging US Debt? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin (BTC) has continued to occupy center stage, drawing varied reactions from different financial pundits. One of these voices is billionaire investor Mike Novogratz, who has yet again reiterated his support for the top cryptocurrency despite the unsettling dynamics in the United States economy.

The Growing Concern: Skyrocketing Interest Payments

The US is currently experiencing an unprecedented increase in debts as its interest payments reach $970 billion. This figure represents a leap of $41 billion in the second quarter alone. Observers anticipate that the rising trajectory could soon see the countrys debts surge resulting in the interest payments hitting the $1 trillion milestone, which has set off alarm bells in financial circles.

Related Reading: Bitcoin Retreat Below $30,000: A Threat To Cryptos 2023 Dominance Over Stocks?

To clarify, interest payments are the actual payments that the borrower makes to the lender, typically on a regular schedule, to repay the interest on a loan or debt. The amount of each payment is determined by the interest rate and the terms of the loan.

As such, the sustained upsurge of interest payments in the US economy has triggered growing unease among financial experts. Tax receipts are currently failing to keep pace with the ballooning sovereign debt.

Consequently, the issuance of more debt to fund interest payments is becoming an increasingly common occurrence. This scenario has created a vicious cycle, causing concern about the potential repercussions on the nations fiscal health.

In light of this, Mike Novogratz has once again expressed his firm support for Bitcoin. His latest advocacy came to the forefront recently when he urged investors to buy Bitcoin as the US national debt spiked by $1 trillion between June and July.

Amanda Cobbett Embroiders Realistic Likenesses of Fungi and Flora in Stunning Detail "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Am embroidered sculpture of lichen on wood.

All images Amanda Cobbett, shared with permission

With a keen eye for detail and a passion for nature, Amanda Cobbett embroiders hyperrealistic fungi, mosses, and lichen with painstaking precision (previously). Taking between one to two weeks to complete, each piece is inspired by flora found around the U.K., which she collects, studies, and recreates with fiber in her Surrey Hills studio. Most recently, the artist has focused on samples found in the Scottish Borders for an upcoming exhibition, which she says is the result of a years worth of work, and includes even more intricacy than previously made embroideriesIt is a snapshot in time but includes a huge amount of variety in colour, texture, and new forms.

Cobbett complements an array of mushrooms with soil-coated roots and carpets lifelike pieces of bark and twigs in diverse lichens. Over time, she has developed techniques that allow her to work on a minuscule scale, often putting specimens under magnification to detect the tiniest characteristics. I mix the weights of the sewing threads from the bobbin and the spool, often using a 75 to 100-weight thread to enable me to get the finest detail, she says.

You can see more of Cobbetts work on her website, or follow updates on Instagram, where she often shares images of her process.

Bitcoin Set To Accelerate As A Store Of Value In Wake Of Bank Collapses, Cathie Wood "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

ARK Invest CEO and crypto proponent Cathie Wood says that Bitcoin is set to grow massively as a store of value following the recent bank collapses. She believes that Bitcoins stability and a huge rally in the wake of US regional banks collapsing is a major testament to the fact that Bitcoin is the future of money.

Cathie Wood Remains Bullish On Bitcoin

In a recent interview with Barrons, Wood maintained that she remains bullish on digital assets and highlighted three reasons she wont be backing down on her investments. According to her, Bitcoin stood tall and rose by 60%, from $19,000 to $30,000, when regional banks like First Republic, SVB, and Signature Bank collapsed. She attributed this run to investors seeing the asset as a safe alternative for storing their wealth.

Wood explained:

We see three revolutions taking place because of crypto. Bitcoin will dominate the first one, the money revolution. The biggest proof is that when regional-bank stocks were falling apart earlier this year, Bitcoin went from $19,000 to $30,000. That was a flight to safety, and we expect it to accelerate. The centralized monetary system we have today is an aberration. We could be going back to the future before the Federal Reserve existed under a digital, rules-based monetary system with no government oversight.

The other reasons for her bullishness on digital assets relate to decentralized finance (DeFi) and digital property rights involving tokenizing several physical assets in real estate and other relevant industries.

The second revolution is in financial services, or the so-called DeFi, which will be Ethereum-based. There are a number of infrastructure providers out there. Its the survival of the fittest, and Im excited to see who wins, the CEO said.

Last but not least, according to Woord, is digital property rights, or what many call NFT or the metaverse. People are already buying real estate in virtual worlds. Our young research associates come into the office wearing jeans and T-shirts with no logos, but they are getting their status in the virtual world.

If Bitcoiners Dont Do More, CBDCs Will Win "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Logan Chipkin, a professional writer who creates educational content about Bitcoin and other topics.

In The Fiat Standard, economist Saifedean Ammous argues at length that the United States federal government has been propagandizing the masses into choosing cheap industrial substitutes and massively reducing (its) meat consumption since at least 1916.

As Ammous wrote:

...the ADA (American Dietetics Association) is responsible for formulating the dietary guidelines taught at most nutrition and medical schools worldwide, meaning it has for a century shaped the way nutritionists and doctors (mis)understand nutrition. The astonishing consequence is that the vast majority of people, nutritionists, and doctors today think that animal fat is harmful, while grains are healthy, necessary, and safe!

In other words, even though a meat-centered diet is superior to a grain-centered one, the government and its quasi-private partners succeeded in persuading millions of people into opting for the latter.

Ammous raises the topic of dietary guidelines as just one example of how a fiat standard distorts an industry, but theres another lesson in this story that Bitcoiners have to grapple with:

Even if your product is the best on the market, governments (and other entities) are capable of spreading narratives that persuade citizens to choose an inferior alternative.

If it happened with food, it could happen with money.

A CBDC Punch-Counterpunch

On July 10, 2023, Karin Strohecker published an article in Reuters titled, Twenty-Four Central Banks Will Have Digital Currencies By 2030, Survey Shows. Apparently, a couple dozen central banks have been making great progress in their development of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). Strohecker wrote that these central banks have been working on digital versions of their currencies for retail use to avoid leaving digital payments to the private sector (emphasis added) amid an accelerating decline of cash.

This purported motivation behind CBDCs has been brewing for a while in August 2022, the European Central Bank (ECB) released a report called Towards The Holy Grail Of Cross-Border Payments. In it, the authors compared the merits and demerits of various technological implementations of a cross-border payment solution that might be immediate, cheap, universal and settled in a secure settlement medium. Of the candidates they considered, they concluded that Bitcoin is least credible and that the interlinking of domestic instant pa...

Why shouldnt people who work their fingers to the bone make some extra dough and enjoy some more perks on the job?

And one Waffle House employees story went viral after she said that she was hospitalized after working consecutive days of 17-hour shifts.

Waffle House workers in Columbia, South Carolina ended up striking after learning of the workers situation and a video of their protest went viral.

DeFi Protocol Sparks Speculation Of $16 Million Rug Pull After Severing Lines of Communication "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

DeFi protocol, Hector Network, has closed its official Discord server, leaving many investors in the dark. The move comes amidst growing suspicions of a $16 million rug pull engineered through a so-called hard rug, a process where funds are quickly moved, leaving investors with shitcoins. This comes after a controversial rage-quit vote organized by the projects DAO.

DeFi Protocol Hector Network Leaves Investors In Limbo

Hector Network investors woke up to the news that the DeFi protocol had cut off communications on its official Discord server. The Discord server was the only means of communication between the networks team and its investors which was established after the Hector Network team censored them from the official server in April.

The server was meant to run parallel to the official Discord, preserving data from the latter. Since then, it has become the only means of communication among DAO members.

The move has left the networks investors in a state of shock since they no longer have any means of communication with the networks team. This has led to a lot of backlash, and according to Libagscientist, an investor and vocal critic of the platform, there is no backchannel open anymore.

In the absence of any official communication, dejected investors are accusing the network of siphoning the $16 million left in its treasury.

According to investors, the team embezzled the projects funds over an 18-month period starting in 2021. According to records of DAO votes, the Hector team received over $51 million in salaries during this period without delivering on any meaningful milestone. An aggrieved investor identified as Jintu said, ..not one thing has actually moved forwards.

A Story of Sheer Incompetence and Greed

The Hector Network is part of several Olympus DAO forks, a prominent cryptocurrency reserve currency project that peaked during the DeFi summer of 2021. The Hector Network, like other Olympus DAO forks, promised huge annualized yields of about 100,000% in the beginning, and the early successes of Olympus DAO attracted many investors hunting for massive returns.

During its hay days, Hector Networks native token, HEC reached $357 in late 2021. However, the platforms challenge lies in the fact that its inflationary yield needs to be supported with a steady influx of investor cash to keep the HEC token valuable and maintain its high yields.

Following the crypto winter that began in November 2021, the platform has been unable to recover. Aggrieved investors believe that the team should have......

Man Asks if Hes Wrong for Buying His Husband His Own French Fries "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

AITAHusbandFries Man Asks if Hes Wrong for Buying His Husband His Own French Fries

I once had a girlfriend who got INCREDIBLY upset with me if I reached onto her plate and took a bite of her food

I learned my lesson early on in our relationship that I should never even THINK about doing that again.

And it sounds like this couple is having an issue in that department, too.

Was this guy wrong for buying his husband his own fries after he couldnt keep his hands to himself?

Read on and see what you think.

AITA for buying my husband fries?

I (28M) and my husband (28M) went to a local burger place this weekend for lunch after running errands. He didnt want any fries, just a cheeseburger and a milkshake.

I got a combo meal with fries and a soda. I ask him if hes sure and he says yes. We order, I pay, we sit down. Once were called up for our food and I come back with it, he almost instantly grabs one of my fries. I told him to knock it off and he kept taking fries and telling me he was only taking a few.

I get fed up, went up and paid for a small fry for him and sat back down. This was all done pretty abruptly and in silence. He muttered Jesus and asked me why I couldnt have just shared.

I told him because I wanted the amount of fries in a large fry and he insisted it was fine because he was only taking a couple, but I knew from past experience (about 50% of the time) hed clear half my plate.

I didnt talk to him the entire car ride home and now hes even angrier at me for giving him the cold shoulder. AITA for not sharing my fries?&#8221...

Ethereum Price Will Skyrocket Due To AI-Driven DAO Revolution: Arthur Hayes "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

In a thought-provoking blog post titled Moai, Arthur Hayes, co-founder of the renowned crypto exchange BitMEX, delves into the potential impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the future of economic organization and the role of Ethereum. Hayes argues that the rise of AI-driven Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) will revolutionize the global economy and propel Ethereum to new heights.

The Critical Role Of DAOs In The AI Era

Hayes contends that the current economic progress and per capita wealth of global civilization can be attributed to the efficient self-organization of human societies. He emphasizes that traditional company structures, empowered and regulated by the state, have been the primary vehicles for economic development. However, he highlights the limitations of these structures when it comes to AI-driven entities.

He states, An AI has no reason to follow any laws. It cannot be coerced by the state, and therefore, exchanges that trade tokens issued by AI-powered DAOs will likely become natural monopolies.

Hayes lays out a compelling argument for why DAOs, relying on smart contracts executed on public blockchains like Ethereum, are the ideal organizational structure for AI-driven entities. These smart contracts provide transparency, immutability, and cryptographic verification of transactions and agreements. Consequently, DAOs can operate efficiently and securely without the need for third-party intermediaries or costly auditing processes.

He envisions a future where AI-powered DAOs will raise capital and trade their tokens on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) on Ethereum rather than traditional centralized exchanges. This will create truly global capital markets accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Hayes predicts that DEXs will become natural monopolies due to the advantages they offer in terms of trust, security, and ease of use.

The BitMEX founder presents a hypothetical example of PoetAI, an AI-powered DAO that aims to fundraise and produce original poetry for profit. He envisions how PoetAI could issue its tokens, called POET, through a smart contract with specific attributes, such as revenue sharing and voting mechanisms. Investors can confidently invest in PoetAI DAO knowing that its financial statements are continuously available on the public blockchain, eliminating the need for traditional auditors.

Moreover, Hayes explains that DAOs can raise capital by issuing debt, enabling economic time travel by borrowing from the future to stimulate present economic activity. The enforceability of contracts in DAOs can be facilitated through smart contracts on public blockchains, ensuring that investors are protected.

Hayes Bull Case For Ethereum

Hayes concludes, Ethereum transactions will grow exponentially as DAOs proliferate. As a result, the price of ETH should skyrocket in ant...

Christopher Nolan has by now inspired at least a couple generations of young viewers to dream of becoming filmmakers. For my own age cohort, the touchstone work was his breakout picture Memento, with its reverse-ordered story featuring a protagonist unable to create new memories. Others may have felt a greater impact from the reality-bending Inception or the dystopian sci-fi vision of Interstellar (to say nothing of all those Batman movies). But whether at the turn of the millennium or today, with Nolans latest feature Oppenheimer riding high at the box office, the best advice for such aspirants is the same: watch as many movies as possible.

The problem with Chris, says Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy in the video above, is that hes seen every film ever made. Not every film, Nolan replies, a hand-waving denial that only bolsters the accusation. This takes place amid the shelves of JM Vido, one of the last two video stores still standing in the cinephile capital of Paris.

Crunching The Data: Will Bitcoin Price Soar Or Slump In The Coming Days? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Bitcoin price is currently in an uncertain situation. After BTC broke below the one-month trading range between $29.800 and $31.500, the bulls have so far failed to recapture this area. A first attempt failed on Wednesday at $29.725, a second effort on Thursday at $29.600.

On the other hand, the bears currently also fail to push the price below the critical support at $29.000. In which direction the next movement will go is, as always, pure speculation, but data can give indications.

Bullish Signal 1: Decreasing BTC Supply On Exchanges

Renowned crypto analyst Ali Martinez shared an intriguing bullish chart, revealing that only 2.25 million BTC are currently held in known crypto exchange wallets. This is the lowest Bitcoin supply on trading platforms since January 2018.

The data suggests that investors and long-term holders are refraining from selling and are instead choosing to keep their BTC off exchanges. This hodling behavior indicates a positive sentiment BTC holders.

Bullish Signal 2: Lack Of Inflows From Bitcoin Whales

Head of Research at CryptoQuant, Julio Moreno, pointed out another bullish sign when he shared a chart showing a lack of inflows from large investors with 1,000 to 10,000 BTC (aka Bitcoin whales) into exchanges. Moreno stated, Not really seeing Bitcoin whale inflows into exchanges.

Bitcoin exchange inflows by whales

Additionally, the same trend is observed among smaller investors, indicating a reluctance to deposit BTC into centralized exchanges. Commenting on the exchange deposit transactions (7-day SMA) chart, Moreno added, indeed, seems nobody wants to deposit into centralized exchanges.

Such behavior suggests that significant holders and institutions are holding onto their BTC assets, potentially anticipating future price increases.

When Christopher Nolans latest film Oppenheimer was released worldwide, it sparked a new Internet phenomenon called Barbenheimer after being screened with Greta Gerwigs Barbie on the same date, and it also reignited debates on whether the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II were justifiable and necessary.

But just like how Barbie incited controversy among religious conservatives like pastor Kent Christmas and commentator Ben Shapiro for its seemingly pro-LGBTQIA+ and woke themes, Oppenheimer also found itself in hot water, this time in India, for a scene involving the Bhagavad Gita.

The scene in the three-hour-long biographical drama film that irked Indian netizens involved Irish actor and Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy, who played the titular role of the American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as the Father of the Atomic Bomb, and English actress Florence Pugh, who portrayed psychiatrist Jean Tatler.

In the scene, Tatler asked Oppenheimer if he could speak Sanskrit after seeing a copy of an unnamed Sanskrit book on his shelf, possibly the Bhagavad Gita, with Oppenheimer saying that he was still learning. She then asked him to translate the verse she pointed at, with Oppenheimer saying, "Now, I am become Death, destroyer of the world, while the two shared an intimate moment.

Scandal: Gay Sex Tape of Iranian Hijab-Enforcing Official Leaked! "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

An Iranian official in the northwestern province of Gilan was sacked after a sex tape involving him and a young man was leaked on social media.

The official was identified as Reza Seqati, who served as a director of Iran's Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in Gilan. The scandal surfaced when a video of him having sex with a young man began circulating on the Internet. The young man on the video was not identified.

Local Iranian media reported that Seqatis dismissal was due to "scandals, but the Iranian media and government did not specify which scandals led to him being fired from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, which also serves as the Islamic Republics hijab watchdog especially as the regime continues to fight back against protests that were incited by the death of Mahsa Amini under police custody.

There were also claims that the decision to remove Seqati from being the director of the culture ministrys branch in Gilan province was carried out under orders from the culture minister of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

The Iranian government has not yet commented on the issue, and media outlets that reported on the incident, like Iran International, cannot independently verify the authenticity of the controversial sex tape. However, Culture Minister Mohammad Mahdi Esmaili said in a video on July 19th that the regime fired several ministry managers for their failure to adhere seriously to implementing the hijab law.

Horrifying Honor Crime: Indian Man Beheads Sister Over Forbidden Love "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

A man in India was arrested on the morning of July 21st after he beheaded his sister and carried her head while walking calmly on the street, with a video of him holding the severed head making rounds on social media.

The suspect was identified as Mohammed Riyaz, in his early 20s, and a resident of Barabanki in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Authorities said Mohammed murdered his younger sister, Aashifa, because he was unhappy with her relationship with a local man. The complaint against Mohammed was filed by his father, a farmer named Abdul Raseed.

The gruesome crime happened in the village of Mithwara, located in the Fatehpur area, after an argument between Mohammed and Aashifa. Authorities narrated that the altercation occurred around 11:30 AM after Aashifa refused to end her relationship with a neighbor named Chand Babu, with the two often quarreling over the issue.

Aashifa had eloped with Babu three months ago, but police recovered her a week later, and Babu was sent to prison after her family members filed a complaint against him. He was charged with kidnapping at the Fatehpur police station.

But after the argument with Aashifa on July 21st, Mohammed went outside and returned with an axe before attacking her and beheading her. No other family was inside the home when he committed the crime, and Aashifa was outside their home when she was murdered.

The police received information about Mohammed walking while holding his sisters severed head at noon that day, and a police team quickly spotted Mohammed on a road in Mithwara village and arrested him. He was taken to the Fatehpur station, while another...

How Quran Burnings Ignited Embassy Attacks in Iraq "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

After two separate incidents of Quran burning in Sweden and Denmark this July, emotions run extremely high in Iraq, where the Swedish embassy was torched down by protesters along with an attempt to storm the Danish diplomatic mission in the countrys capital Baghdad.

The Quran burnings in Copenhagen and Stockholm also caused a diplomatic storm between the Nordic nations and several Muslim countries, with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) suspending Swedens special envoy on July 23rd because of the granting by the Swedish authorities of licenses that enabled the repeated abuse of the sanctity of the Holy Quran and Islamic symbols.

The Iraqi government also severed ties with Sweden, expelled its ambassador to Iraq, and recalled Iraqs charge daffaires. On the other hand, Swedens ambassadors in several countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, and Jordan, were also summoned. The recent acts of Quran desecration also had economic consequences, as Iraq canceled work permits of employees working for the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson, which employs 30 full-time employees in the country.

The protests and violence that led to the destruction of the Swedish embassy in Iraq began when Salwan Momika, a 37-year-old Iraqi Christian refugee living in Sweden, staged another protest where he and other protesters desecrated the Quran last July 20th. The demonstrators kicked and partially damaged the book during their protest but did not burn the Quran as they initially intended.

Momika already made headlines last June when he burned the Quran in front of the Stockholm Central Mosque during Eid al-Adha, sparking outcry and protests...

BNB Price Consolidates Below $250: What Could Trigger A Fresh Increase "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

BNB price (Binance coin) is consolidating below $250 against the US Dollar. The price could start a strong increase if it clears the $245 and $250 resistance levels.

  • Binance coin price is struggling to gain pace above the $250 zone against the US Dollar.
  • The price is now trading below $245 and the 100 simple moving average (4 hours).
  • There was a break above a key bearish trend line with resistance near $240 on the 4-hour chart of the BNB/USD pair (data source from Binance).
  • The pair might gain bullish momentum above $245 and $250.

Binance Coin Price Eyes Fresh Increase

In the past few days, BNB price saw a couple of swing moves from $245. The bulls struggled to push the price above the $250 resistance. The price reacted to the downside a couple of times and tested the $235 support zone.

A low is formed near $253.6 and the price is attempting a fresh increase, unlike Bitcoin and Ethereum. There was a move above the $240 resistance. The price spiked above the 23.6% Fib retracement level of the downward move from the $262 swing high to the $235 low.

There was also a break above a key bearish trend line with resistance near $240 on the 4-hour chart of the BNB/USD pair. BNB price is now trading below $245 and the 100 simple moving average (4 hours).

On the upside, it is facing resistance near the $245 level. The next major resistance is near $250 or the 50% Fib retracement level of the downward move from the $262 swing high to the $235 low. A close above the $250 resistance might increase the chances of a push above the $255 resistance.

Ethereum Price Could Avoid More Downsides If It Closes Above One Key Level "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Ethereum price is struggling to clear the $1,885 zone against the US Dollar. ETH could start a decent recovery if there is a close above $1,885 and $1,900.

  • Ethereum is showing a few bearish signs from the $1,885 resistance.
  • The price is trading below $1,870 and the 100-hourly Simple Moving Average.
  • There is a major bullish trend line forming with support near $1,858 on the hourly chart of ETH/USD (data feed via Kraken).
  • The pair could decline sharply if there is a close below the $1,850 support.

Ethereum Price Faces Rejection

Ethereums price attempted a short-term recovery wave above the $1,850 zone. ETH was able to recover above the $1,855 and $1,870 levels, similar to Bitcoin.

However, the bears protected more upsides above the $1,885 resistance zone. A high was formed near $1,887 and the price reacted to the downside. There was a drop below the $1,870 level and the 100-hourly Simple Moving Average.

Ether declined below the 50% Fib retracement level of the recovery wave from the $1,832 swing low to the $1,887 high. It is now trading below $1,870 and the 100-hourly Simple Moving Average.

There is also a major bullish trend line forming with support near $1,858 on the hourly chart of ETH/USD. The trend line is close to the 61.8% Fib retracement level of the recovery wave from the $1,832 swing low to the $1,887 high.

On the upside, immediate resistance is near the $1,870 level and the 100 hourly SMA. The first major resistance is near the $1,885 level. The next key resistance is near the $1,900 level, above which the price might rise toward the $1,920 resistance.

Bitcoin Price Prints Bearish Pattern And Could Dive To New Weekly Low "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin price is struggling to rise above the $29,300 resistance level. BTC could start another decline and trade below the $28,880 support zone.

  • Bitcoin is struggling to rise above the $29,300 and $29,600 levels.
  • The price is trading below $29,300 and the 100 hourly Simple moving average.
  • There was a break below a major bullish trend line with support near $29,300 on the hourly chart of the BTC/USD pair (data feed from Kraken).
  • The pair could continue to move down unless there is a close above the $29,600 resistance.

Bitcoin Price Faces Uphill Task

Bitcoin price attempted a short-term recovery wave above the $29,200 resistance zone. BTC was able to climb above the $29,300 resistance zone but the upsides were limited.

The price struggled to clear a major hurdle near the $29,600 level as mentioned in yesterdays post. It seems like the bears defended the 50% Fib retracement level of the upward wave from the $30,334 swing high to the $28,880 low.

Bitcoin price started a fresh decline below the $29,400 level. There was a break below a major bullish trend line with support near $29,300 on the hourly chart of the BTC/USD pair.

The price is now trading below $29,300 and the 100 hourly Simple moving average. Immediate resistance is near the $29,300 level and the 100 hourly Simple moving average. The first major resistance is still near the $29,600 level.

3 years later Im still single. People Share Stories About the Most Ridiculous Things They Did in Their 20s "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Do you remember your twenties?

Okay, let me rephrase that: do you remember some of your twenties?

Sure you do!

That wild and crazy decade where you had no problem staying up all night and making it to work at 6 am the next morning!

Ahhhh, the good old days.

Lets hear from AskReddit users about the most ridiculous things they did in their twenties.

This is gonna be fun!

Stupid.

Drink and drive.

A lot.

Never got busted. Quite stupid. I am now 5 years sober(unrelated). I say this from the bottom of my heart.

There are friends, taxis, Uber, Lyft etc.utilize these for yourself.

This is quite a story.

Hands down the worst thing Ive done was sticking with my ex, that eventually clouded my judgement to a point where I turned to crime.

This is going to be long winded, but hear me out.

I met this girl through my younger sister. I was 20 at the time and was studying to become an accountant. We were very happy in the beginning, and my friends and family loved her. I was just as close with her family.

She is 2 years younger than I am, and had just finished high school when we met. Fast forward a year till when she started dropping hints about getting engaged. Like I said, we were happy and started discussing it.

She started a job in logistical admin and I had a work/study agreement with a big accounting firm in my hometown. They didnt pay fantastic, but covered all my tuition fees.

We eventually got engaged on the 31st of December at a party with our families that I arranged with the intention. Everyone was on board, despit...

But some of those stories are actually total BS.

There was even a false story he was homeless in his early career, no doubt pushed by his record label.

A Free Press Under Threat in Modis India "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A new Indian newsroom documentary exposes the trials and tribulations of journalism amidst the nations current hyper-nationalist crackdown on independent media. While We Watched (2022), directed by Vinay Shukla and now screening at Manhattans IFC Center, follows Ravish Kumar, a polarizing veteran journalist who worked with Indias formerly independent news broadcast NDTV, as he struggles in the field with a target on his back for refusing mainstream media narratives that pander to Indias current wave of Hindu nationalism.

Shot prior to the pandemic between 2018 and 2020, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was re-elected for a second term, Shuklas documentary presents Kumar in his vulnerable state through deliberately tight, claustrophobic compositions. Kumars face barely fits into the frame as we look over his shoulder from the backseat of his car, glimpse at the newsroom screens in front of him, observe him spending time with his daughter and wife, and watch his resources thin out before him.

I wanted to shoot and edit the film to induce the same anxiety that watching the news makes me feel, Shukla said in an interview with Hyperallergic a few days after a press screening of the film at IFC.

Ravish has been on the news and in the news business for over 20 years, Sh...

TD Cowen Publishes Bullish Report on Bitcoin And MicroStrategy "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Investment banking company, TD Cowen, published a recent report on MicroStrategy and its adoption of Bitcoin, according to documents obtained by Bitcoin Magazine.

MicroStrategy represents a new kind of firm, which generates dollar -based cash flow from enterprise software products and cloud intelligence services but then converts its excess cash flow on an effectively -leveraged basis into bitcoin, the report said. What started as a defensive strategy to protect the value of its assets has evolved rapidly into an opportunistic strategy intended to accelerate the creation of shareholder valueThis hybrid corporate strategy represents a paradigm shift, in our view.

The report details how this forward thinking company strategy is designed to combat the depreciation of purchasing power holding the US dollar. Unlike fiat money, the total supply of bitcoin is capped at 21 million bitcoins, making it a potentially superior store of value, we think. TD Cowen explains that this strategy will not be lived short term, but it will be a long term strategic plan predicting that bitcoin will become a superior store of value in comparison to metals and fiat currencies. And that because of MicroStrategys large BTC holding, they see MSTR as an attractive vehicle for investors looking to gain Bitcoin exposure.

Significant near term catalysts for the price of Bitcoin to rise include the approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF by the SEC, development of the Lightning Network, potential FASB / GAAP accounting changes with respect to Bitcoin holdings, and the upcoming bitcoin halving in less than a year, according to the investment bank.

The report is bullish on the potential approval of a spot Bitcoin, joining many other firms in saying its a matter of when rather than whether one will eventually get approved by the SEC. TD Cowens Washington policy expert Jaret Seiberg wrote in a report earlier this month stating we view approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF as inevitable.

TD Cowen wrote Bitcoin could ultimately represent a superior store of value relative to all other forms of money, whether fiat, metal -based, or digital, we believe. The report describes Bitcoins properties of durability, portability, fungibility, verifiable, divisibility, and scarcity, establishing history, and censorship resistance as reasoning for this.

Bitcoin is relatively new, only being around since 2009. Despite this small amount of established history in comparison to gold or the dollar, TD Cowen believes that Bitcoin has weathered enough trials in the market to suggest a high likelihood it will not vanish as a valued asset any time soon. They predict that the asset will only grow stronger due to the lindy effect, meaning the longer Bitcoin can stay in existence, the more confidence society will have in it that it will continue to exist.

If Bitcoin is to take over and exceed the $17 trillion gold stocks market, i...

On Wednesday, July 26, the world lost another music legend. Irish singer Sinad O'Connorrenamed Shuhada' in 2018, and Shuhada' Sadaqat in 2019died at the age of 56. Known for her fiery political convictions and emotional voice, she left an indelible mark on the world. Her album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got sold over 7 million copies worldwide, and her single Nothing Compares 2 U, which was originally written and composed by Prince, was the number-one world single in 1990. However, she was more than a talented singer.

O'Connor was born Sinad Marie Bernadette O'Connor in Dublin, Ireland, in 1966. Her home life was not an easy one, especially the relationship she had with her mother. I grew up in a severely abusive situation, my mother being the perpetrator, she said in 2014. So much of child abuse is about being voiceless and it's a wonderfully healing thing to just make sounds. Despite the difficulties she faced at home, O'Connor found release through music and began performing in Dublin as a teenager.

This eventually culminated in her first album The Lion and the Cobra, which she recorded while pregnant with her first child. It was released in 1987 when O'Connor was just 20 years old. The cover featured the artist with a shaved heada feature that she was known for throughout her life and was seen as a statement against expectations for female beauty. Her rise to fame continued with the release of her second album in 1990, titled I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got.

In addition to her powerful singing voice, O'Connor made headlines throughout her career for fearl...

Meow! "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

The other night, the performance artist Kembra Pfahler told me some top-drawer East Village Elizabeth Taylor lore: the dame crossed paths with the about-town character Dee Finley outside a needle exchange one afternoon and later paid for Finley to get an entire new set of teeth. A quick Google search when I got home revealed that the story, as reported by Michael Musto for the Village Voice, was not apocryphal: Finley recalls Taylor arriving by limo at the Lower East Side Harm Reduction Center, circa 1997She had just had brain surgery. Her hair was short and blonde. Liz at her dykiest. YUM! Taylor, who funded a lot of community work related to the AIDS crisis and had donated to the needle exchange, was apparently out and about that Thursday taking a tour to see what her dollars were doing, and also giving away bottles of her best-selling perfume White Diamonds; though Sophia Loren did it first, Taylors powdery Diamonds was what really made celebrity fragrances a thing. (Finley says she promptly flipped her freebie for a couple bags of junk.)

The poet and perfumer Marissa Zappas owns a pair of size thirty-eight brown leather kitten heels that once belonged to Taylor, who died in 2011. When I asked her if they smelled, she said, Not really, vaguely of green peppers at first. For Zappas, whos carved out a niche for herself as an independent perfumer designing fragrances for book rollouts and art installations, as well as olfactory homages to historic figures like an eighteenth-century pirate, Taylor has been a lifelong obsession. She even used photos of her idol as visual aids to help her memorize smells when she was training to become a perfumer. Now, after establishing herself through collaborations with pros and internet-famous astrologers, Zappas has returned to...

The difficulty with showing art at the Guggenheim Bilbao is that the art is always in competition with the building itself, and in most cases, the building wins. There is an additional problem: too little time and thought were given, at that planning stage, to the galleries that would need to be carved out of its interior spaces.

Artist Gary Tyler, Wrongly Incarcerated for 41 Years, Gets First Solo Show "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

LOS ANGELES At 16 years old, Gary Tyler was arrested by the police in St. Charles, Louisiana, following an incident in which he and a group of other Black American students were attacked by a crowd of White people while riding a bus home from school. Desegregation had been mandated in the 1954 historic ruling Brown v. Board of Education, but 20 years later, in 1974, the White community was still resistant to integration. During this confrontation, a 13-year-old White boy named Timothy Weber was killed by a gunshot. Many witnesses, including the bus driver, said this shot came from outside the bus Tyler was riding.

Inspired by a trip he had recently taken to California, where he was reportedly first exposed to the Black Panther Party and the concept of racial equality, Tyler spoke back to an officer during the ensuing investigation at the scene, considered an unwritten crime on par with tyranny or blasphemy in the rural South. Tyler was arrested, beaten, and charged with the crime as a symbolic representation of what happens to a Black person who steps out of line.

In November 1975, he was convicted of first-degree murder by an all-White jury, sentenced to death row, and sent to Louisianas maximum-security Angola prison. His trial attracted the attention of prominent racial justice advocates such as Rosa Parks, who said at a 1976 rally in his support: If there is any strength that I have left I will do whatever I can to help...

Sazmining Establishes Sustainable Bitcoin Mining Facility In Paraguay "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Sazmining, a hosted Bitcoin mining provider committed to 100% renewable energy, has set its sights on South America with the establishment of a new facility in Paraguay. Slated to commence operations on September 15th, the facility takes advantage of Paraguay's low electricity prices, offering hosting at an competitive rate of 4.7 cents per kWh a far cry from the average cost of 16.1 cents per kWh in the United States.

"By harnessing surplus electricity, Bitcoin mining has ingeniously transformed Paraguay's previous losses into a profitable venture for the entire nation," stated Kent Halliburton, President and COO of Sazmining. "Embracing this development, Paraguayan politicians and the local power provider, ANDE, are actively participating in electricity-for-Bitcoin transactions. Beyond immediate financial gains, Sazmining has a larger vision focused on creating a sustainable and forward-looking future by investing in electrical infrastructure that will benefit Paraguay for generations to come, extending well beyond the lifespan of any Bitcoin mining activities."

As a fully non-custodial service, Sazmining ensures customers' Bitcoin rewards are directly sent from the mining pool to their private wallets. Operating on a mutually beneficial model, Sazmining only earns when the customer does, incentivizing them to optimize the mining environment for maximum efficiency and the longevity of the miners.

The facility will provide customers with their signature white-glove, on-site maintenance, customer-service experiences, and a dedicated security team to ensure the highest standards of safety and performance.

In 1971, Brazil and Paraguay joined forces to construct the Itaipu Dam, generating 14 gigawatts of electricity. Under the agreement, Brazil financed the project, and in return, Paraguay received surplus electricity beyond its domestic needs. Initially faced with the challenge of handling this surplus, Paraguay started selling the excess power to Brazil, albeit at a financial loss. However, the advent of the Bitcoin mining industry has now presented a perfect solution to this situation, allowing Paraguay to not only profit from their surplus energy but also house advanced Bitcoin mining facilities.

Margot Robbie Reveals She Paid off Her Moms Mortgage With Her First Big Paychecks

What did you buy with your first big paycheck? For actress Margot Robbie, the answer was simplea house for her mom. Having borrowed money from her mother, Sarie Kessler, to keep herself afloat during the early years of her career, she knew she had to pay it back. And so, the star of Barbie saved up her first big paychecks to pay off her mom's mortgage.

Everything I owed my mum, I had it written down. She'd take money out of the house mortgage [to] lend me money. So I always knew, I was like, I've gotta pay that back,' Robbie said during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning. And then one day, when I made enough money, I just paid that whole mortgage off completely. I was like, Mum, don't even worry about that mortgage anymore. It doesn't even exist anymore.'

Reflecting on her story, she knew the feeling was universal. Anyone in my position, you'd do that for your mom. Of course you would, she added.

After starring in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, Robbie got a leading role in the TV series Pan Am. In 2013, she made her feature film debut in About Time, before getting a breakout role in The Wolf of Wall Street opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. A year later, she co-founded the production company LuckyChap Entertainment, which has produced several films including I, Tonya, Promising Young Woman, and Barbie.

Looking back, Kessler reflected on Robbie's determination during an interview with Vogue in 2o19. I really admired the wa...

Overdue Library Book Is Finally Returned 119 Years Late

Library shelves

Photo: zatletic/Depositphotos

Have you ever returned a library book late? Perhaps by a day or two or maybe even a week? How about 119 years? No? Well, a particular volume from the New Bedford Free Public Library in Massachusetts actually took that long to make its way back to the librarys shelves. A copy of An Elementary Treatise on Electricity by British scientist James Clerk Maxwell that was checked out in 1904 was finally returned in 2023.

The book was first spotted by Stewart Plein, curator of rare books at West Virginia University Libraries. The librarian was sorting through a recent donation of books when she spotted the copy of Maxwell's treatise. It was in great condition for a book that old, but there was one problem: it appeared to have once been part of a library collection and it didnt have any sort of stamp indicating it was officially withdrawn. So, it appeared to be a lost and very long overdue book.

Plein got in touch with Jodi Goodman, the special collections librarian in New Bedford. While the library staff had seen overdue books returned 10 or 15 years later, this was something new. This came back in extremely good condition, New Bedford Public Library Director Olivia Melo says. Someone obviously kept this on a nice bookshelf because it was in such good shape and probably got passed down in the family.

An Elementary Treatise on Electricity was first published in 1881, with the copy in question being added to the library collection a year later, as a stamp on the first page shows. Published two years after Maxwell's death, it featured some of the lectures on electricity he gave at the University of Cambridge. Despite its antiquity, this copy is not regarded as a rare edition of the work.

Since the New Bedford library has a 5-per-day late fee, a book overdue by 119 years would mean a late fee of $2,100; however, the librarys late fee limit maxes out at $2. If anything, its true value lies in the history it has witnessed since being borrowed.

Bright Lights, Big TV DIY Ambient Lights

Televisions these days are technological marvels  absolutely massive yet paper-thin screens with crystal-clear 4K (or better) resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rates, high dynamic range (HDR) color and luminance, and other features that turn living rooms into amazing personal theaters. As great as these new TVs are though, the magic still ends at the thin bezel []

One of Hollywood's most beloved couples just hit a milestone. Michael J. Fox and his wife, Tracy Pollan, are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary. To mark the occasion, the two of them shared some loving messages to one another on Instagram.

The star of the Back to the Future franchise posted a handful pictures that look straight out of a photo album. Theyre accompanied by a simple and sweet caption that reads, 35 years of laugher, living, listening and loving you @tracy.pollan. Thank you for it all. Forever yours, Mike.

Meanwhile, Pollan went with a more recent photo of the pair on vacation, which she captioned, 35 years!!! Happy anniversary my love. Heres to many more glorious adventures together. I could not love you more. To which Fox replied, Likewise, so beautiful just like you. Happy Anniversary!

Fox and Pollan first met on the set of the sitcom Family Ties, where Fox played one of the main characters, a young man named Alex P. Keaton. Pollan joined the series in its fourth season to play his girlfriend, Ellen Reed. Some time later, they reunited on the set of Bright Lights, Big City and initiated a romantic relationship. They got married in July 1988 after seven months of dating. Together, they have four childrenSam, Esm, Aquinnah, and Schuyler.
