Whether you are a fan of Harry Potter or not, youve likely heard of Hogwarts. Though its often the backdrop to the adventures of Harry Potter and his friends, thee wizarding school is almost like a character itself. The castle and its grounds are home to enigmatic creatures and deadly secrets, many of them crucial to the development of the series. Paying tribute to the most charming location of the Wizarding World, LEGO has announced a 2,660-piece Harry Potter set called Hogwarts Castle and Grounds.

This is not the first LEGO set dedicated to Hogwartsand that doesn't include the amazing fan-made models done throughout the years. It is, however, the first to feature the grounds of the castle and the Black Lake. If you're familiar with the Harry Potter saga, you know that the surrounding areas of the castle are just as compelling and full of life as Hogwarts itself.

Once assembled, the new Hogwarts Castle and Grounds LEGO set stands at over 8.5 inches high, 13.5 inches wide, and 10 inches deep. Rather than taking up an entire table, its compact size makes it the perfect accessory for your bookshelf. It's almost as if it was designed to be proudly positioned alongside your hardcover Harry Potter collection.

The most noticeable architectural aspects of the castle are present, such as the Astronomy Tower, the Great Hall, the greenhouses, and that wooden bridge that inspires many reflective conversations. Yet one of the most exciting elements of the Hogwarts Castle and Grounds set is that it also features some of the castle's iconic sites as little ro...

Bitcoin Bulls Dominate, But Expert Warns Of Potential $20,000 Retest "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin has risen by almost 80% in the first six months of 2023. However, as has been the case in the past, the cryptocurrency has experienced periods of stagnation before making any significant moves.

This has resulted in a consolidation phase that has left investors waiting in anticipation for the next direction. And if attempts to breach upper resistance lines fail, it could jeopardize most of the gains made in the last few months of 2023.

Will Bitcoin Plummet To The Depths?

Crypto analyst under the pseudonym Captain Faibik on Twitter, has recently made some bold predictions about Bitcoins future.

Despite the current bullish sentiment in the market and the possibility of reaching a new yearly high for 2023, Captain Faibik warns that bulls are not out of the woods yet.

Faibik believes that Bitcoin may retest the $20,000 region in the upcoming months of August and September. However, Faibik also believes that the Bitcoin bull run will officially start in November 2023.

On the other hand, the recent confirmation of a 2-week buy signal, a successful retest from the breakout, and the Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) crossing above the 0 level for Bitcoin have caught the attention of traders and investors alike.  These indicators have only occurred in 2015, 2019, and 2020, leading many to believe that a significant price movement is imminent.

Trader Moustache highlights that while history doesnt repeat itself exactly, it often rhymes. This means that while past events can provide insights into potential market movements, there are no guarantees in the volatile cryptocurrency market.

However, the fact that these same technical indicators have been observed in the past and have been followed by significant price movements is a cause for excitement among Bitcoin investors.

Litecoin $100 Milestone Indicates Promising Bullish Trends Heres Why "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Litecoin (LTC) has been on a remarkable run in the past three days, emerging as one of the most impressive performers among cryptocurrencies this week. But whats causing this sudden surge in its price?

The answer lies in the anticipation of a major event thats just around the corner: the impending halving of Litecoin, set to take place on August 2. Similar to Bitcoin, Litecoin undergoes halvings after a specific number of blocks are mined, roughly every four years.

As the halving approaches, investors and enthusiasts are left wondering: will Litecoins price continue to soar, or is there more to this story than meets the eye?

Litecoin Price Rally And Resistance Breakthrough

LTC has demonstrated a strong performance in recent days, currently trading at $112.35 according to CoinGecko. Over the past 24 hours, LTC experienced a notable rally of 5.1%, and within a seven-day timeframe, it surged by an astonishing 29.0%.

Over the weekend, LTC managed to surpass the crucial $100 mark, and since then, it has sustained trading above this key level of resistance. This resilience indicates bullish tendencies and raises the possibility of a significant breakthrough, with the potential for the $100 resistance to transform into support.

Such a development could pave the way for a sustained bull run, potentially propelling the token to reach $130 in the near future.

Social Activity Volume And Halving Event Hype

The surge in LTCs price has coincided with heightened social activity volume, as observed by the blockchain analytics firm Santiment.

This suggests a correlation between price spikes and increased interest and engagement surrounding the crypto.

The anticipation of Litecoins upcoming halving event has generated a surge in demand for the asset, driving its price upward.

You are Here to Live, Not Just Survive "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

BY SOFO ARCHON

This is What Life Was Meant to Be

If a secret voice in your head is whispering that life was meant to be far better than the one you were offered, please trust it because its right.

You were not meant to hate Mondays, to live for the weekend or to dream of your next vacation.

Yet you might think that there is something wrong with you, for it often appears that nearly everyone else is doing just fine.

Well, heres the truth:

Most people in this culture deep down feel that their life lacks joy and meaning; they just dont want to admit it, to others and especially to themselves. For admitting it means facing a harsh truth and the emotional turmoil that is bound to arise from that hence, they prefer to ignore their pain and pretend that everythings alright.

So, trust me, there is nothing wrong with you; whats wrong is the life you are forced to fit into that is, an unnatural life.

A life where youve been given an ever-growing burden to carry and are told to not complain about it.

A life where you are coerced to fight against your own feelings and desires.

A life that is not yours, but was designed and is controlled by others.

In a few words, a life of suffering and misery.

But you are not here to live like this. You are here to live free like a bird and brave like a lion. You are here to love, play, create and discover. You are here to contribute something magnificent to the world.

You are here to live, not just survive.

So, when you hear that secret voice again, please trust it because this is what life was truly meant to be: a celebration, not a drudgery.

How to Handle Criticism "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

BY SOFO ARCHON

How to handle criticism

This is a transcript of a spontaneous talk.

How to best deal with criticism?

I have found that one of the most important things that you can do is to differentiate criticism into constructive criticism and destructive criticism.

Now, constructive criticism is criticism offered by people who genuinely care about your work or whatever you are doing, there are people who want to see you improve. They are there to elevate you, and to actually have a discussion with this sort of criticism is very good to engage. It is very important to pay attention to it.

The problem is that often we think that we know everything. We think that we are the best. We have such an inflated ego that we dont pay attention to the criticism that is directed toward us, and hence we dont improve, or we dont improve as quickly as we could if we did pay attention to that criticism.

So you need to let go of the idea that youre right or that you know everything and pay attention to that criticism and ask yourself:

What can I learn from it?

I do that quite often. When I publish something, lets say an article or a video, and I receive a lot of criticism and some of it is so good. Im like, yes, that person pointed out something that I could not see, and then I could correct my article, or I could write a better article next time it helped opened my eyes to some facts or truth that was invisible to me before that.

But then I have noticed that some of the criticism that I receive is very destructive is from people who dont really want to help me, who dont want to contribute to our community, who instead want to put me down.

They call me names. The fight against things that I never said. If you receive this kind of criticism as well. The best thing you can do is to not pay attention to it, but first you have to identify it and this is something that I learned early on in my writing journey.

When I started writing back in 2012, I wrote an article on the negative effects of religion and I was focused on the Judeo-Christian tradition and this article for some reason reached a lot of people and I got so many emails, perhaps hundreds and about half of them contained what I call dest...

How to Deal with Toxic People "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

BY SOFO ARCHON

How to Deal with Toxic People

How can one best deal with toxic people?

Sometimes, there are people in our lives who are quite toxic. People who are very nasty, hateful, abusive, manipulative, controlling. People who make our lives harder, who disrespect us, who dont care about us and want us to suffer, or who dont even realize how toxic their behavior is.

So, how can one deal with such people?

Im going to share with you a few tips that will possibly make your life easier if youre dealing with toxic people.

The first one is to try to understand those people. Why do they behave this way?

A lot of times, because we dont understand this people, we try to deal with them by fighting against them. And what that does is it adds fuel to the fire, because it makes our relationship even more complicated. They control us, and then we try to control them, they try to make us feel worse, and then we try to make them feel worse too. How can healing take place in such an environment? Its impossible.

And the other thing is that often abusive people who want to get our attention, because this way they can find another opportunity to attack us. And so they want us to engage in conflict. Theyre like parasites who live on this negative energy. So by trying to fight them, we give them what they want, and we let them thrive.

If we study those people, we will see that actually, they are not evil people that most of us think. We try to fight against them, because we think that they are bad. But if you study their psychology, you will understand that in almost all cases, there are people who are deeply hurt, as the saying goes, hurt people hurt people.

So once we understand them, we start seeing them with empathy. And once we realize that, there is no point in fighting anyway, we stopped fighting. So what can we do instead?

And this brings us to the second point that I want to make, which is, try to communicate to them as best as you can. What is the problem that youre having with them? What is their situation exactly? What makes you feel hurt? What do they do that complicates or burdens or worsens your life?

Whatever that is, bring it up to them. Say, you know what, this happened, you said this, you did this, and I dont enjoy this kind of relationship that...

Dont Trust Elon Musk "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

BY SOFO ARCHON

Elon Musk Wont Save Us

Many people think that Elon Musk will save us, as if he is Jesus or something. Not by using supernatural powers, of course, but by harnessing the powers of technology.

He is what can be described as a techno-utopian. And the technological solutions he proposes are every techno-utopians dream.

But the truth is, those solutions arent solutions at all. For they dont address the root causes of the biggest problems humanity is faced with today. In fact, they distract us from them and the real solutions.

For example, one of Elon Musks solutions is electric cars. Cars that are made by the working class and sold to the upper and upper-middle class. Cars that require tremendous resource extraction and cause tremendous environmental pollution. Yet which are sold as the better alternative to fossil fuel-powered cars, in effect exploiting the ecological crisis for profit.

How about making structural changes to our cities and transportation systems so that people have to rely less on automobiles?

No, that wont help we need more electric cars!

Another of Elon Musks solutions and his most ambitious one so far is space rockets. Rockets that will supposedly help humanity to colonize Mars before Earth becomes uninhabitable.

In other words, he is investing billions of dollars in fleeing Earth, instead of healing it. Again, damaging Earth to build, power and maintain those rockets. And techno-utopians think that this is the solution we need!

But wouldnt all those billions of dollars be better spent on, lets say, designing, implementing and promoting alternative educational, agricultural or economic systems with the goal of improving our social and environmental conditions?

As you can understand, Elon Musks solutions arent solving the worlds problems. On the contrary, theyre adding to them. And I believe he deep down knows that, but his narcissism doesnt let him admit it.

You see, more than caring about the world, he cares about his self-image. He cares about portraying himself as the bad boy, the rebel, the one who deviates from the norm. Thats why hes one of the most famous trolls on the Internet alive. And for that hes worshipped by his fellow techno-utopians.

But lets not forget, he is also the worlds richest man. And you cant become the richest man in the world...

Depression is a Symptom of Our Social Sickness "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

BY SOFO ARCHON

depressed woman

Our society thinks that theres something wrong with depressed people. And it tries to fix them, mainly by using chemical drugs called antidepressants.

Why?

So they can fit into society and function as normal people.

But what if society itself is sick, and depression is a symptom of our social sickness?

Then its not the individuals that needs fixing, but society itself and by that I mean the social systems and institutions in place, which, due to the way they are designed, inevitably create the conditions that produce depression on a mass scale.

For example, one of the strongest predictors of depression is poverty. Thats because of several reasons, one of them being that people born in poverty are way more likely to experience emotional abuse as children, which significantly increases the risk of them developing depression.

Other important causes of depression include engaging in meaningless work and feeling disconnected from other people, both of which, along with poverty, are outcomes of our debt-based economic system, which places us in a condition of artificial scarcity that results in forced labor, competition and economic inequality.

Picture society as a tree, and people as its leaves: If the tree is sick, then naturally its going to produce sick leaves. Now, we might think that theres something wrong with the leaves, and try to fix them one by one without addressing the tree, but our efforts will be in vain, for the leaves are inseparable from the tree. And even if we could somehow fix a leaf here and there, the tree will still keep on producing new, sick leaves. Hence, we will be fighting an endless battle, while allowing the trees sickness to continue.

So, when it comes to depression, lets stop blaming the leaves, and focus on healing the tree.

A Story About Heaven and Hell "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

BY SOFO ARCHON

Heaven and Hell - The Parable of the Long Spoons

Once, a curious man asked God about the nature of Heaven and Hell. In response, God led him to two doors that revealed starkly different worlds.

Upon opening the first door, the man saw a pitiful sight. A large pot of savory vegetable stew sat at the center of a table, surrounded by thin and sickly people. Although they held spoons, the utensils were too long for them to bring food to their own mouths. The aroma of the stew made the mans mouth water, but the pitiable sight of their suffering left him trembling.

This is Hell, God proclaimed.

However, when the man opened the second door, he was surprised to find the same pot of stew, the same long-handled spoons, and a similarly sized group of people. Unlike the first group, these individuals were well-fed, plump, and laughing with one another. The man was puzzled, and he turned to God for an explanation.

With a smile, God simply said, Love is the only skill required. These people understood early on that by sharing and caring for one another, they could all enjoy the meal. Those who are selfish and greedy will always be left wanting.

***

Heaven and hell are not places that we go to, but states of being that we manifest through the choices we make.

The people in Hell were as close to the same pot of delicious stew as those in Heaven, but their refusal to work together and care for each other resulted in their suffering. On the other hand, those in Heaven understood the importance of sharing and love, and their willingness to help one another led to their joy and well-being.

So, always remember: Genuine happiness and fulfillment come not from selfishness and greed but from compassion and generosity toward others.

The story is based on a text often attributed to Rabbi Haim of Romshishok.

Better Money For Better Journeys: How Bitcoin Has Improved The Way I Travel "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by HodlingCarla, an avid traveler and Bitcoin advocate.

Few things get me as excited as visiting a new corner of the world, and my passport can attest to that. I've visited 45 countries, lived in nine and covered all continents except Antarctica.

After years of globetrotting, I thought that part of my life would have been over by now. But just when I began to feel the desire to settle down and set roots, something happened: I discovered Bitcoin. My life, then, was radically changed. Not only has it transformed my worldview, but it's also reignited a fire in me to keep moving and seek out people who have gone through the same awakening.

Combining my passions for adventure and hard money, I've recently begun to focus on visiting emerging Bitcoin circular economies across the globe. From helping me save time and money to making me feel more protected and connected with the people I meet along the way, using Bitcoin has been a game changer for my travel experiences.

In this piece, I discuss how Bitcoin has helped me fix common money issues known to travelers everywhere and how it's made my journeys more special in multiple ways.

Source of images throughout: Author

Bitcoin Helps Travelers Save Time

If I had a sat for every time I've had to deal with payment-related issues in a foreign country, I'd have a big enough stack to make Michael Saylor jealous. Whether it was finding a currency exchange with decent rates, looking for a store that accepted my cards or calling my bank to resolve credit card issues, I've wasted so much precious time on these problems that just thinking about them frustrates me.

In a few scenarios, it's even resulted in the disruption of my itinerary and a significant dose of anxiety, as when it happened during a trip to a remote island in the Philippines in 2015. Though I had a great time, it wasn't long before I found myself running out of cash, with no ATMs and no currency exchange offices in the area. Ultimately, I was saved by the only Western Union office in town when it finally opened two days after my crisis began.

Had the locals and I known about Bitcoin then, my journey would have gone as planned, and my stress levels would have remained stable the entire time.

Fast forward eight years, and I returned to the Philippines, but this time, my experience with money matters was much better. Why? Because I chose the island of Boracay, also known as Bitcoin Island, as my destination.

For Those Who Can't Forgive Themselves

Self-forgiveness is medicine for the soul. It helps us to heal, let go, and move on with our lives.

Often, were harsh on ourselves because of our past mistakes. But in life, making mistakes is inevitable. Thats because no one is perfect or all-knowing.

If youve made mistakes that you still dwell on, remember to be gentle with yourself, for you didnt know better at the time. And instead of regretting your mistakes, see them as learning opportunities.

Mistakes arent all bad. Although they can cause a lot of pain to ourselves and to others they serve a very important purpose:

To helps us learn, develop our understanding and grow as human beings.

The past is gone, so dont try to change it. Instead, use it as a stepping stone to find greater joy in the present. For, as long as youre alive, theres always a new opportunity to turn your life and that of others into a more positive direction.

Ill end this article with one of my favorite poems written by Rumi, which kindly reminds us to accept and forgive ourselves:

Come, come, whoever you are.
wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.
It doesnt matter.
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come,
even if you have broken your vows a thousand times,
Come, yet again, come, come.

Our Economy is Killing the Planet "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

BY SOFO ARCHON

How Our Economy is Killing the Planet

Consider this:

If people stopped buying as much stuff as they currently do, fewer sales would be made, which means that fewer jobs would be needed, and hence that more unemployment would be created.

Now, assuming that consumption slowed down significantly and for long enough, the economy would shrink dramatically and eventually collapse, resulting in hunger, violence, and disease.

Therefore, our economic system is based on consumption.

But heres the problem:

The more we consume, the more resources we use up. And since we live on a planet with finite resources, our economic system has us extract resources way faster than Earth can replenish them, causing deforestation, soil erosion, biodiversity loss and a multitude of other environmental issues.

In other words, our economic system is inherently unsustainable.

So, what can we do about it?

Well, we can either change it from its very foundations and start living in alignment with our life-supporting planet, or keep it as it is and destroy the world as well as ourselves along with it.

The choice is ours.

Shiba Inu Lead Dev Teases Shibarium Launch, How High Can SHIB Rise? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Excitement is building within the Shiba Inu community as the highly anticipated launch of Shibarium, the layer-2 scaling solution, draws near. Shytoshi Kusama, the pseudonymous project lead developer, recently addressed the upcoming launch, emphasizing the importance of sticking to the planned strategy and timeline. Kusamas confident statements have further fueled anticipation among enthusiasts.

Shibarium Is On The Verge Of Release

When asked about potential changes to the launch date or plan of Shibarium, Kusama responded resolutely, stating, It doesnt matter; everything is already set. I cant change the date or plan. Its called a launch strategy. This unwavering commitment to the established timeline demonstrates the Sharium developers teams dedication to ensuring a successful launch for Shibarium.

In another intriguing conversation within a Telegram group chat, someone identified as Mark suggested that Shibarium would launch at ETHToronto which takes place from August 15-16, 2023, in Toronto Canada. Surprisingly, the Shiba Inu lead developer playfully agreed, stating, Mark his words. This playful interaction has fueled speculation that Mark is actually right with his speculation.

It is noteworthy that Kusama recently dropped another hint in which he said that it is no longer a question of when but where. The SHIB lead developer released a video showing the Shiba Inu logo and a major (North American) city. The message of the video was, Something is coming. We are actually going somewhere. Apparently the developers of Shiba Inu are planning a big event, and as the rumors have it, for the Shibarium launch.

While the exact launch date remains undisclosed, another Shiba Inu enthusiast brought up a previous statement from Kusama in which he hinted at a two to four-month timeframe for the launch after the beta testing start. Notably, July 11 marks the four-month milestone since the beta release.

Formerly an Athenian colony, Amphipolis was lost to Athens during the Peloponnesian War as a result of the Spartan general Brasidas brilliant northern campaign; an attempt by the noted demagogue Cleon to recover it ended in his defeat and death (though Brasidas was killed as well). Thereafter the polis remained independent, enjoying great strategic importance for a number of reasons: the nearby forests supplied vital timber for shipbuilding; local silver mines offered vast wealth to whoever controlled them; and the city was in a prime location to facilitateor interfere withgrain shipments to Athens from the Black Sea region. However, only a few years after this coin was minted, the expansionist Philip II of Macedon conquered Amphipolis and consolidated his hold over Thrace. Amphipolis would remain an important Macedonian stronghold until the kingdoms defeat by Rome in 168 BCE.

When my wife and I got married, we were obviously younger and in our 20s. Although never thin, I was more slender. My wife, 59 and legs for days and just banging body.

Now? Im not as thin (same as her) we have two kids, and I find her s**ier now more than ever. In our almost decade together, we have slept on a floor, used change for gas and had our electricity turned off 3-4 times for non payment. Shes my Ride or D**.

She has more of a tummy now, bigger boobs, maybe doesnt shave like she used to or wear skimpy lingerie outfits randomly. BUT. I wouldnt trade it for the world. We have grown older together and I honestly couldnt find anything in this world that still turns me on as the certain way my wife runs her fingers down my back or...

Cristiano Ronaldos initial non-fungible token (NFT) collection encountered a difficult start in the market, facing several challenges. These obstacles emerged during a period marked by significant complexities, ultimately influencing how this collection was received and performed.

Among the various hurdles confronted by the first collection, one significant challenge arose when it was launched merely a week following the collapse of the FTX Derivatives Exchange.

The demise of FTX had substantial ramifications on general crypto market sentiments, resulting in an overall decline and eroding investor trust.

Nonetheless, given the increasing traction and comprehension of NFTs among collectors and enthusiasts alike, alongside possible improvements in market conditions, there is pot...

How Stanley Kubrick Adapted Stephen Kings The Shining into a Cinematic Masterpiece "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

For most of us, the title The Shining first calls to mind the Stanley Kubrick film, not the Stephen King novel from which it was adapted. Though it would be an exaggeration to say that the former has entirely eclipsed the latter, the enormous difference between the works relative cultural impact speaks for itself as does the resentment King occasionally airs about Kubricks extensive reworking of his original story. At the center of both versions of The Shining is a winter caretaker at a mountain resort who goes insane and tries to murder his own family, but in most other respects, the experience of the two works could hardly be more different.

How Kings The Shining became Kubricks The Shining is the subject of the video essay above from Tyler Knudsen, better known as CinemaTyler, previously featured here on Open Culture for his videos on such auteurs as Robert Wiene, Jean Renoir, and Andrei Tarkovsky (as well as a seven-part series on Kubricks own 2001: A Space Odyssey). It begins with Kubricks search for a new idea after completing Barry Lyndon, which involved opening book after book at random and tossing against the wall any and all that proved unable to hold his attention. When it became clear that The Shining, the young Kings third novel, wouldnt go flying, Kubrick enlisted the more experienced novelist Diane Johnson to collaborate with him on an adaptation for the screen.

Why AVAX Price Rumble Stalls Despite Surge In Daily Activity "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Avalanche (AVAX) has been experiencing a surge in daily activity, with traders and investors eagerly observing its progress. The crypto community had high hopes for the AVAX price to surpass the $14 mark, signifying a significant milestone in the assets growth.

However, despite the increased interest and activity surrounding the crypto, the price failed to breach the elusive barrier. This unexpected development has left many wondering about the underlying factors contributing to this stagnation in price movement.

Whats going on with AVAX?

Surge In Daily Activity Fails To Propel AVAX

The current AVAX price on CoinGecko stands at $13.26, showcasing a 2.9% rally over the last 24 hours. However, despite this recent uptick, the asset has also experienced a 0.9% decline in the past seven days.

Avalanche witnessed an impressive surge in daily activity, yet this accomplishment did not translate into the expected boost for AVAX to break through the critical $14 resistance level.

According to a price report, AVAX  has been experiencing a series of lower lows since mid-April, signaling a strong downtrend. During this period, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has remained below or just slightly above the neutral position, indicating muted buying pressure in the market.

Currently, the RSI hovers around the neutral level, signifying a more balanced market sentiment. However, the Money Flow Index (MFI) has crossed the mid-level point, suggesting a recent easing of buying pressure while notable trading volume remains.

Given the current technical indicators and market conditions, AVAXs price is likely to consolidate within the range of $12 to $13.5 in the coming days.

Bitcoins Consolidation Above $30,000 Affects AVAX Price

Bitcoins prolonged consolidation above the $30,000 level has played a significant role in shaping the broader cryptocurrency market sentiment, including AVAXs price movement. As one of the leading digital assets, Bitcoin often sets the tone for the overall market, impacting investor confidence and risk appetite.

Institutional Investors Flock To Bitcoin: Are We Witnessing A Paradigm Shift? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Bitcoin market is experiencing a seismic shift, with recent data revealing fascinating trends that shed light on the evolving dynamics. From a significant decline in Bitcoin inflows to a historic drop in supply on exchanges, coupled with a surge in institutional fund accumulation, these developments highlight a maturing market and changing investor sentiment.

Unprecedented Decline In Bitcoin Inflows and Supply

The on-chain analytics service CryptoQuant has today published extremely interesting data on the behavior and cohorts of Bitcoin hodlers via Twitter.

Over the past 612 days, Bitcoin has witnessed an 80% decline in the number of addresses recording inflows, which can be interpreted as selling activity. This decline reaches an even higher figure of 84% when measured from the peak in May 2021. These numbers even surpass the previous record set during the 2017 parabolic top, demonstrating the magnitude of the current trend.

Both narrowly beat the second highest decline in addresses associated with inflows between the 2017 parabolic top into 2018 bear, at 78.5%.

Largest Decline of Bitcoin Inflows and Supply in History

It is important to note that these figures do not account for addresses that have moved to self-custody or differentiate between miner activity and retail investors. This suggests that the decline in addresses associated with inflows may be even more significant than the data implies, potentially indicating a shift towards long-term holding strategies or alternative custodial methods.

In a parallel trend, the overall supply of Bitcoin on exchanges has been steadily shrinking since March 2020, marking a period of consistent decline that had not been witnessed before in Bitcoins history. This decline is not only significant in its duration but also in its depth, as Bitcoin reserves on exchanges have dropped by over 30%. CryptoQuants experts further note:

March 2020 was the highest ever supply recorded on exchanges, and preceded by consistent ten years of supply growth....

The forecasted rain held off, the poor air quality caused by Canadian wildfires had abated, and the worlds largest Pride parade stepped off without incident in New York City on the final Sunday in June.

Its grown quite a bit since the last Sunday of June 1970, when Christopher Street Liberation Day March participants paraded from Sheridan Square to Central Parks Sheep Meadow.

Seeking to commemorate the one year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, when a police raid touched off a riot at the Greenwich Village gay bar, the events planners took inspiration from the organized resistance to the Vietnam War and Annual Reminders, a yearly call for equality from the Philadelphia-based Eastern Regional Conference of Homophile Organizations.

AITA for refusing to RSVP to my sisters wedding because Im required to write an application essay just to attend?

Yeah I know this sounds insane but Im living in it.

So my sister is getting married next February, destination wedding no less. I have doubts whether this wedding is actually going to happen with the pandemic and everything but she is totally set on moving forward.

Anyways because of the pandemic, her original venue has made her cut down on guests because theyre cutting capacity by half. As a result shes sending out re-invites that asks everyone to RSVP again.

But in order to figure out who to invite and who to cut, shes asking all confirmed guests to submit two 250-word essays to two questions. The gist is that theyll use these essays to choose who can come or not, based on peoples enthusiasm. People who dont write the essays at all will be automatically disqualified.

I just feel really insulted by all of this. The questions arent even pandemic-related, its broad topics like why do you still want to celebrate this day with us? And wh...

So many stories.

I was in Rio de Janeiro in a taxi with a friend. We stopped at a stop sign at a busy intersection and two p**stitutes were soliciting themselves.

Now, this all happened very quickly, but neither my friend nor I said anything, but the taxi driver told them to get lost. They kept soliciting themselves. The taxi driver told us not to open the doors or windows. The p**stitutes pulled out knives and started stabbing/slashing the taxi. The taxi driver pulled out in front of traffic to get away from the situation, but thankfully we didnt get into a car accident.

In Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, my (ex)girlfriend and I hired a driver. We went to a marketplace and the driver informed us it wasnt the safest place, so he would walk a few meters behind us and observe. Not 5 minutes in and he grabbed us by the arms and said Dont turn around, dont react, Im going to guide us out. After getting into the car, we asked what was up. It took several times of asking until he finally said that there was a group of older boys following us with knives and he wouldnt say anything else.

Brother Babysitter 1 Dont Take Advantage Of The Fun Uncle Or You Could Lose Them Forever

Family dynamics can be tricky. This is true in the best of times, but when the whole family refuses to realize that every last one of the kids is now an adult with their own autonomous needs, things can get ugly fast.

OP is the youngest and is currently single and childless. He often gets stuck helping with his nephews, who are young triplets, because his sister is overwhelmed. This caused him to move out of his parents house.

I 23m was repeatedly stuck playing the part of helper and babysitter on family outings. I had to move out of my parents house because I kept being forced to help watch my three nephews.

Last year his parents paid for his portion of the family vacation and drove him there in their car, so apparently they felt justified in making him share a room with the children and going along with all of the kid-friendly itineraries, to the point where he only got to do one thing he chose.

Last year we took a family vacation in summer to the coast. I rode along with my parents, and they paid for my hotel room. Only, I had to share that room with three rowdy boys because my sister and her husband wanted a room to themselves.

Nikkis Weekly Tarot Reading: July 3-9, 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The cards pictured are from Uusis Pagan Otherworlds deck.

Two of Pentacles and Ace of Pentacles

We start the week with a Full Moon in Capricorn on July 3. The earthy pentacles align perfectly with the earth sign of Capricorn, enhancing the tangible, practical, and responsible energy inside of us.

Our first card this week is the Two of Pentacles. There is always an infinity symbol with this card and with the deck depicted above, its seen in the leaves wrapped around two golden coins.

The symbol shows us that change is infinite. Though we may be facing an upcoming transition, change is always happening. There will never be a time when everything stands completely still.

The infinity symbol is a reminder that the more comfortable we become with change, the less rigid and fearful we will be. The card calls us to view change with a sense of acceptance rather than tension.

Just as a caterpillar goes through a major transformation to become an enchanting butterfly, we ourselves are evolving into a deeper state when we encounter transformative energy.

The message of balance is also highlighted in this card. If a change is coming up for you, make sure you take some time to invest in your foundation. You will need extra care for your body and home to stay grounded.

It can be easy to get lopsided during an adjustment period. Dont let your needs get neglected or run yourself ragged. Spend some alone time and dont forget that boundaries are healthy, especially with family.

The Two of Pentacles will be supporting us through the changes ahead. So if there is something that has needed a shift, this card will support the process.

If we resist change, this card might push for it anyway. It is said, whatever we resist will persist, and that is part of the lesson for this card. So lets embrace the movement forward.

Our next card is the Ace of Pentacles. This card in partnership with the Two of Pentacles really gives us superpowers. It represents even more growth opportunities and grounded strength.

On a material level, this card can point to a large input of funds, either from a windfall or a big promotion. On a spiritual level, since this card is connected to our relationship with the earth, it can represent aligning closer with nature.

It can also point to a sudden deepening of our spiritual path, either by gaining a profound insight or perhaps through a guide. The phrase the teacher appears when the student is ready is tied to this card.

So the message of the Ace of Pentacles is twofold. On one level it is about accomplishments in the material world and opportunities to be successful. And on another level, it is about connecting to the rhythm of the universe.

Is This Guy Wrong for Making His Daughter Sleep in the Backyard as Punishment? People Responded.

Did your parents ever get so upset with you when you were a kid that they punished you by making you sleep in the backyard?

Mine didnt, either!

And I cant say that Ive ever heard that one before

But lets get this dads side of the story before we make our judgment, okay?

Check out what he had to say and see what you think.

AITA for making my daughter sleep in the backyard after what she did to our housemaid?

My M46 daughter (16) is a high school junior. I noticed recently that shes been behaving in a bad manner constantly commenting on other peoples looks, belongings, calling them stuff that isnt cool and just being insensitive.

Its like she lost a filter or something because usually shes polite but my wife suspected that our daughters sudden misbehavior occurred after she started hanging out with new girls from the school. Basically the mean type and have picked on their behavior. Ive sat with my daughter and had many discussions about how her behavior has been negatively affecting everyone around her.

Our housemaid is the person most affected here and my daughter has chosen her to be her target for hair, clothes, etiquette criticism. She has complained about our daughter calling her offensive names like filthy and gross for cleaning certain areas...

Can You Just Stand by and Watch America Fall Because of the Sheep? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Image result for hypnotized by the TV

I realize times are tough forcing us to focus more on our own survival. I realize that after a long days work to raise a family many people just want to eat their dinner in front of the TV and not have to think. I realize that too damn many people allow the mainstream media news to do their thinking for them. Worst of all, I realize that too damn many people dont realize what a threat to national security and our own lives that the mass media is to you and I. If people did wake up in general, vote accordingly, and pay attention to the issues, would it make a difference? Yes, I believe it would because the bastards who are involved in voter fraud, using public office to profit, and those who lie for a living (US mass media) the pressure upon them from the public would be great enough to turn back the slaughter. In fact, it would promote more honest candidates running for office, yet, we go back to that old realization and in the words of Donald J. Trump, The system is rigged!

Even in the Lone Star State

Ive known some low level representatives running for office in my time. Each one of them expressed frustration over an establishment of local office holders who eventually make it to DC who will block others from getting into office. They were appointed by the Bushs or the same shadow figures who saw to it that Barack Obama rose to power. Yes, Democrats and Republicans can actually stab their own part in the back by agreeing with the opposition even when they know they are dead wrong! Even in a conservative state such as Texas, the most economically valuable and productive state in the Republic, there is a constant danger of Democrats turning the state blue. There is even a swamp in Austin where a stronghold of leftists exist in the very heart of Governor Abbotts city. The Democrats have been trying to take out Attorney General, Ken Paxton, for a long time. It was Paxton who made a political theory and petition to the Supreme Court that the controversial election of Joe Biden damages the interests of the state of Texas and, thus, the best interests of the country, but the justices refused to entertain his accusation. Therefore, now the Democrats leave it up to the RINOs in the Texas state chambers to get rid of Paxton.

If Only Lynch/Oz Had More of a Brain "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

From The Wiz to Wicked, from Toto to friends of Dorothy, arguably no American movie has influenced popular consciousness more than Victor Flemings 1939 The Wizard of Oz. And yet its lingering thematic and visual presence in David Lynchs filmography might come, to some, as a surprise. After all, most of us first watch The Wizard of Oz as children; Lynchs fare often veers so dark that full-grown adults need a visual and conceptual palate-cleanser before heading to bed. For these reasons, Alexandre O. Philippes Lynch/Oz would seem a must-see for fans of the yellow brick road or the Great Northern Hotel of Twin Peaks. If only.

What could have been a riveting exploration of how one of the weirdest American movie classics shaped one of our weirdest contemporary auteurs is, instead, a series of desultory video essays narrated by critics and directors who, on occasion, seem to know little about film or film history. Somehow nearly every canonical film is like The Wizard of Oz from ...

In 1941, about 265,000 Jews were forced to live in the Vilna Ghetto, but by 1943, about 95% of them had been murdered or relocated to concentration camps. With the community decimated, Jewish stories nearly vanished. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the Lithuanian government reopened its Jewish museum and erected memorials, but contemp...

Taliban Achieves What US Couldnt Do with Opium "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The groups ban on poppy farming has reportedly slashed Afghanistans opioid production by 80% in one year. Taliban is bad like that, and the US is always good. Dont forget that. The Taliban has reportedly accomplished in one year what Americas war on drugs failed to pull off in five decades: eliminating the vast majority of Afghanistans opium output. Since the Taliban banned poppy farming nationwide in April 2022, Afghanistan has carried out the most successful counter-narcotics effort in human history, the UK Telegraph newspaper reported on Saturday. Afghan poppy production has dropped by an estimated 80% in the past year, the report said. Poppy cultivation has plunged by more than 99%, to around 2,500 acres, in Helmand province, which British troops occupied for much of the 20-year, US-led war in Afghanistan. The Telegraph noted that no such supply reductions were achieved during Washingtons 50-year war on drugs, including two decades of US presence in Afghanistan. The Central Asian country historically accounts for more than 80% of global opium production and 95% of European opioid supplies. The United Nations, among other observers, has raised concern that the resulting shortfall could lead to more use of synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl, which are potentially even more dangerous than heroin. With the US in control of Afghanistan in 2004, the Washington-backed government in Kabul set a goal of eliminating poppy cultivation within 10 years. Instead, cultivation and output actually rose during the US occupation, even as American taxpayers reportedly spent at least $9 billion to eradicate the industry. The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has a long history of involvement in the narcotics trade. A US State Department report in 1991 found that covert CIA operations in Afghanistan had transformed the region from a self-contained opium zone into a major supplier of heroin for the world market. Nevertheless, US media outlets pointed fingers at the Taliban for allegedly allowing opium production to rise after the Islamist group retook control of Afghanistan in August 2021. For instance, US st...

1,884 Athlete Cardiac Arrests in 2.5 Years, 1,310 Dead "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

By Frank Bergman, In the past two and a half years, the number of athletes suffering sudden cardiac arrests and related issues has soared to alarming levels. In early 2021, young athletes started suddenly collapsing with heart-related medical emergencies. Since then, a staggering 1,884 cardiac arrests or other serious issues have been recorded among athletes. Unfortunately, 1,310 of those athletes died suddenly.

Good Sciencing has been maintaining a non-exhaustive and continuously growing list of mainly young athletes who suffered major medical issues in 2021, 2022, and the first half of 2023.

According to Good Sciencing, all of the athletes on the list share one common factor: They suffered sudden serious health issues after receiving one or more doses of Covid shots.

As of April 2023, Good Sciencing had recorded 1,884 athlete cardiac arrests or serious issues since January 2021.

There are another 55 cases that Good Sciencing is still investigating or awaiting further information.

Good Sciencing has yet to record and investigate more recent incidents such as the four New Zealand rugby players.

Keeping Cool in India "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

Changes in climate patterns in India have lead to higher temperatures and humidity, making conditions unbearable in many areas. Around 50% of India lives in a warm and humid zone. India is one of the countries with the lowest access to cooling in the world, and the need is expected to rise exponentially.

Traditionally, courtyards, high thermal mass walls, and optimum window sizes were commonly observed features of dwellings. With the cultural influence of colonial bungalows, outdoor lawns became preferable over indoor courtyards. The rise in population, land politics, and space constraints has resulted in many outdoor spaces being consumed in building more structures.

Walls grew thinner due to area constraints and windows grew bigger leading to more heat gain inside buildings. Glass enables views and efficient daylight, but it is often overused.

Moisture-absorbing materials like mud bricks and rammed earth were traditionally used for walls in humid regions. With multi-story construction and flat roofs becoming a custom these became obsolete and red-brick and concrete a standard. Brick and concrete are further being superseded with glass, aluminum, and steel structures. Mangalore tiles, bamboo shingles, or coconut palms, often constituted their sloping roofs, as these regions experience heavy rainfall.

Designers have begun to understand the importance of thermal comfort, sounds, and other multi-sensory perceptions for promoting good physical and emotional well-being.

A warm and humid climate necessitates constant air circulation to control humidity and heat gain. Making narrow building floor plans and channeling wind properly by keeping smaller window sizes in a windward direction, larger in a leeward direction; or an inlet at a lower, and an outlet at a higher level helps in maintaining pressure-driven wind movement. Keeping medium size openings of 20-40% of wall surfaces is advised to avoid moisture gain.

High relative humidity in some months renders evaporative cooling ineffective (which works well in hot-dry climates), and mechanical air conditioners become essential to provide thermal comfort, in certain months.

Indias Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched the Global Housing Technology Challenge  to find a variety of sustainable, and disaster-resistant building technologies from across the world for the housing sector.  While many states have adopted the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code, effective implementation remains a challenge. Compliance with these can significantly improve the thermal performance of buildings and help fight climate change while providing benefits like reduced electricity bills and better physical and psychological health for residents.

19th-Century Map Shows That Beaver Dams Can Last Over a Century

Beaver Map

Historic beaver dams marked in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. (Photo: The American Beaver and his Works, by Lewis Henry Morgan, 1868)

The American beaver is a mighty creature. Once incredibly numerous, they figured heavily in indigenous worldviews in the Americas. When Europeans arrived, they prized the beaver for its pelt, and it was hunted almost to extinction over the following centuries. However, these small mammals have been part of another enduring legacy through their effect on the changing American landscape. In fact, one enthusiast recorded the dams created by beavers in the mid-19th centuryand nearly 75% of those he noted are still visible today.

Lewis Henry Morgan was a railroad magnate and politician with a passion for anthropology and natural sciences. Michigan's Upper Peninsula turned out to be fascinating to him as he planned his railroad through the state. Throughout the 1850s and 1860s, he observed the beaver, (apparently) his new favorite creature.

This observation yielded an impressive 396-page book impressively entitled The American Beaver and His Works. Within each folio was tucked a map of the Ishpeming, Michigan, area. Sixty-four beaver dams dot the landscape, interrupting streams and creating ponds. To create such a map, Morgan used his own naturalist skills combined with the drawing techniques of his railroad engineers. It was published in 1868.

So what have the busy beavers been up to in Michigan in the past century and a half? As it turns out, largely maintaining these historic dams. Despite the loss of habitat and population, 46, or 75%, of the dams Morgan noted are still visible on the landscape. Ecologist Carol Johnston of South Dakota State University in Brookings published a study after she discovered Morgan's map, which was largely lost to obscurity. Using modern aerial footage, Johnston was able to verify whether there ar...

If humans went extinct, what would the Earth look like one year later? "IndyWatch Feed Health"

If humans went extinct, what would the Earth look like one year later? Essie, age 11, Michigan

Have you ever wondered what the world would be like if everyone suddenly disappeared?

What would happen to all our stuff? What would happen to our houses, our schools, our neighborhoods, our cities? Who would feed the dog? Who would cut the grass? Although its a common theme in movies, TV shows and books, the end of humanity is still a strange thing to think about.

But as an associate professor of urban design that is, someone who helps towns and cities plan what their communities will look like its sometimes my job to think about prospects like this.

So much silence

If humans just disappeared from the world, and you could come back to Earth to see what had happened one year later, the first thing youd notice wouldnt be with your eyes.

It would be with your ears.

The world would be quiet. And you would realize how much noise people make. Our buildings are noisy. Our cars are noisy. Our sky is noisy. All of that noise would stop.

Youd notice the weather. After a year without people, the sky would be bluer, the air clearer. The wind and the rain would scrub clean the surface of the Earth; all the smog and dust that humans make would be gone.

Home sweet home

Imagine that first year, when your house wou...

Moody Settings Reveal What People Are Feeling in Uncanny Portrait Paintings "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Moody Settings Reveal What People Are Feeling in Uncanny Portrait Paintings

Portrait Paintings by Xiao Wang

Xiao Wang, Double Portrait, oil on canvas, 48 x 60, 2022.

New York-based artist Xiao Wang masterfully sets the mood in his portraits with uncanny environments. Although realistically rendered, the color palettes have a slightly distorted quality that speaks to what each figure is feeling or thinking at the moment. From swirling violet clouds to blue-toned leaves, these backgrounds help us understand what Wang's subjects are trying to saybut cannot.

Originally from China, Wang's experience as an immigrant has a major influence on his portraits. The work describes the feeling of being trapped between two worlds, navigating feelings of uncertainty and unease while trying to assimilate. His subjects wear slightly enigmatic expressions that make it hard to discern exactly what they are thinking. While some stare off into the distance, others even look like they are smiling. The cues to what is truly going on in their head exist in the settings.

Most of the figures depicted in Wang's work have a personal connection to the artist, either as a friend, partner, or Wang himself. The juxtaposition of a naturalistic approach to human anatomy and the altered colors makes it seem like these people exist somewhere between reality and a dream. And it is in this place that we can better understand their state of mind.

Limited edition prints of Wang's work are available through Art for Change. Be sure to follow the artist on Instagram to keep up to date with his latest projects and exhibitions.

The 2022-23 school year saw 13 hate crime hoaxes and six questionable claims, according to a College Fix analysis. Further investigation into reported fan behavior at the Penn State versus Rutgers basketball game on [Feb. 26] has found that no apparent racial slurs were used by Penn State fans, the university announced. Intricate Ceramic Sculptures Mimic the Vibrant Beauty of Aquatic Life "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Intricate Ceramic Sculptures Mimic the Vibrant Beauty of Aquatic Life

Aquatic Ceramic Sculptures by Lisa Stevens

UK-based artist Lisa Stevens pushes the boundaries of ceramics with her aquatic-inspired creations. Embedded with intricate details, these pieces mimic the colors and forms found by the sea. Featuring bright flowers and textured ridges, any of these sculptures look like they could've washed up on shore.

Stevens has been capturing natural oceanic motifs for years. While her art has become increasingly elaborate, her process remains the same. She begins each piece from clay and uses various tools to sculpt and shape the material into the desired form. This can mean adding tiny indentations all along the surface, scratching long lines, and crafting flower petals. Although this process can be labor-intensive, it results in a very tactile finish with an eclectic mix of textures.

Once the building is done, Stevens applies a carefully chosen array of underglazes and stoneware glazes to the sculpturessometimes even adding melted glassto give the pieces a more aquatic feeling. Her palette usually includes blues and greens as well as bright yellows and oranges; they are colors you expect to find in coral reef habitats. These vibrant additions also highlight the details in the sculptural elements.

Stevens' ceramic sculptures are available to purchase through her online shop. You can also keep up to date with the artist's latest creations by following her on Instagram.

Can we train our taste buds for health? A neuroscientist explains how genes and diet shape taste "IndyWatch Feed Health"

Have you ever wondered why only hummingbirds sip nectar from feeders?

Unlike sparrows, finches and most other birds, hummingbirds can taste sweetness because they carry the genetic instructions necessary to detect sugar molecules.

Like hummingbirds, we humans can sense sugar because our DNA contains gene sequences coding for the molecular detectors that allow us to detect sweetness.

But it is more complex than that. Our ability to sense sweetness, as well as other tastes, involves a delicate dance between our genetic makeup and the foods we encounter from the womb to the dinner table.

Neuroscientists like me are working to decipher how this intricate interplay between genes and diet shapes taste.

In my laboratory at the University of Michigan, we are diving deeply into one specific aspect, which is how consuming too much sugar dulls the sense of sweetness. Taste is so central to our eating habits that understanding how genes and the environment shape it has crucial implications for nutrition, food science and disease prevention.

The role of genes in sensing taste

As with hummingbirds, the human ability to discern what food tastes like depends on the presence of taste receptors. These molecular detectors are found on the sensory cells, which are housed inside the taste buds, the sensory organs on the surface of the tongue.

The interactions between taste receptors and food molecules give rise to the five basic taste qualities: sweetness, savoriness, bitterness, saltiness and sourness, which are transmitted from the mouth to the brain via specific nerves.

3M offers $10.3B settlement over PFAS contamination in water systems now, how do you destroy a forever chemical? "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PFAS chemicals seemed like a good idea at first. As Teflon, they made pots easier to clean starting in the 1940s. They made jackets waterproof and carpets stain-resistant. Food wrappers, firefighting foam, even makeup seemed better with perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

Then tests started detecting PFAS in peoples blood.

Today, PFAS are pervasive in soil, dust and drinking water around the world. Studies suggest theyre in 98% of Americans bodies, where theyve been associated with health problems including thyroid disease, liver damage and kidney and testicular cancer. There are now over 9,000 types of PFAS. Theyre often referred to as forever chemicals because the same properties that make them so useful also ensure they dont break down in nature.

Facing lawsuits over PFAS contamination, the industrial giant 3M, which has made PFAS for many uses for decades, announced a US$10.3 billion settlement with public water suppliers on June 22, 2023, to help pay for testing and treatment. The company admits no liability in the settlement, which requires court approval. Cleanup could cost many times that amount.

But how do you capture and destroy a forever chemical?

Biochemist A. Daniel Jones and soil scientist Hui Li work on PFAS solutions at the Michigan State University and explained the promising techniques being tested today.

How do PFAS get from everyday products into water, soil and eventually humans?

There are two main exposure pathways for PFAS to get into humans drinking water and food consumption.

PFAS can get into soil through land application of biosolids, that is, sludge from wastewater treatment, and can they leach out from landfills. If contaminated biosolids are applied to farm fields as fertilizer, PFAS can get into water a...

What are PFAS, and why are these forever chemicals showing up in drinking water? An environmental health scientist explains "IndyWatch Feed Health"

Youve probably been hearing the term PFAS in the news lately as states and the U.S. government consider rules and guidelines for managing these forever chemicals.

Even if the term is new to you, chances are good that youre familiar with what PFAS do. Thats because theyre found in everything from nonstick cookware to carpets to ski wax.

PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, which are a large group of human-made chemicals currently estimated to be around 9,000 individual chemical compounds that are used widely in consumer products and industry. They can make products resistant to water, grease and stains and protect against fire.

Waterproof outdoor apparel and cosmetics, stain-resistant upholstery and carpets, food packaging that is designed to prevent liquid or grease from leaking through, and certain firefighting equipment often contain PFAS. In fact, one recent study found that most products labeled stain- or water-resistant contained PFAS, and another study found that this is even true among products labeled as nontoxic or green. PFAS are also found in unexpected places like high-performance ski and snowboard waxes, floor waxes and medical devices.

At first glance, PFAS sound pretty useful, so you might be wondering whats the big deal?

The short answer is that PFAS are harmful to human health and the environment.

Some of the very same chemical properties that make PFAS attractive in products also mean these chemicals will persist in the environment for generations. Because of the widespread use of PFAS, these chemicals are now present in water, soil and living organisms and can be found across almost every part of the planet, including Arctic glaciers, marine mammals, remote communities living on subsistence diets, and in 98% of the American public.

The Environmental Protection Agency issued a health advisory in 2022, warning about their risk in drinking water even at very low levels. PFAS maker 3M, facing lawsuits, announced a...

The ugly side of beauty: Chemicals in cosmetics threaten womens reproductive health "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

Walk through the personal care aisles of your local store and youll see dozens of products that promise to soften your skin, make you smell better, extend your lashes, decrease wrinkling, tame your curly hair, or even semi-permanently change the color of your lips, hair or skin.

Remember the adage If it seems too good to be true, it probably is?

Many of product promises like these are based on chemicals that can also be hazardous to your health, including endocrine-disrupting chemicals that can interfere with fertility and reproduction, fetal growth and infant development.

Thats a big concern, because these products are heavily marketed to young women in the years before they might consider starting a family.

Recent studies have demonstrated that college-age women use cosmetic products at higher rates than other groups. Additionally, many of these young women are unaware of the health risks from frequent use of popular products containing contaminants of emerging concern. And finding cleaner alternatives often means paying more.

As an epidemiologist who has fought my own fertility battles, I study exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in everyday products, such as cosmetics, shampoos, lotions and plastics. I have been working to raise awareness of the health risks to young people and encourage prudent use of cosmetic products.

Bitcoin Needs To Change For Its Ethos To Scale "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Michael Matulef, an electrician, independent student of Austrian economics and member of the Mises Institute.

Bitcoin needs to change! In the realm of Bitcoin heresy, before you prepare to hang me from the gallows for that statement, permit me to express my final thoughts. Allow me to provide a brief introduction I am not a galaxy-brained, shadowy super coder. I must admit to my relative ignorance in the fields of computer science and cryptography. I do not work within the Bitcoin industry. Instead, I am an ordinary pleb, toiling away in construction to make ends meet, striving to maintain humility and gain a comprehensive understanding of the true nature of Bitcoin. So, why do I say that Bitcoin must change?

Let us commence by reflecting upon the adage, "Not your keys, not your coins," which resounds as one of the loudest mantras in the Bitcoin community, and rightfully so. When your private keys are held by a centralized exchange or custodian on your behalf, you effectively surrender control over your funds. This situation introduces counterparty risk, as you become reliant on the security practices and integrity of the third party entrusted with your keys.

The philosophy underlying "not your keys, not your coins" aligns with the broader principles of decentralization and censorship resistance. These principles seek to empower individuals with financial sovereignty and eliminate the necessity for intermediaries. It underscores the significance of personal responsibility, security and self-reliance in this digital era where governments increasingly employ technology as a tool for controlling individuals.

Now, you may ask, what is the issue at hand? Well, the truth of the matter is that, under the current implementation of the Bitcoin protocol, self custody does not scale. Many Bitcoin enthusiasts choose not to critically analyze this reality. However, we cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.

Recently, the BRC-20 minting issue thrust this challenge into the spotlight within the community. The event triggered an explosion in the base layer fee market, resulting in exorbitant costs to confirm transactions. Regardless of your opinion on BRC-20, the incident provided us with a glimpse of the future if the network continues to expand. Try to envision, in all honesty, the exacerbation of this situation with 8 billion users. As activist Anita Posch pointed out in this tweet, custodial solutions would become the only means of onboarding new network participants. While there are federated protocols aiming to disintermediate custodial risk by spr...

Conflux (CFX) has had a positive run so far in 2023, placing itself amongst the best-performing altcoins in the first half of the year. However, the Chinese Ethereum has been trading in the red in the past few days. According to data from CoinGecko, CFX lost nearly 16% of its value in the past week.

DWF Labs Acquires $18 Million Worth Of CFX Tokens

This CFX price fall comes despite the acquisition made by DWF Labs in the past week. On Wednesday, June 28, the Conflux network announced that the multi-stage Web3 investment firm purchased $18 million worth of its token.

This latest investment is a follow-up to the initial $10 million purchase of CFX tokens in March. It is understood to be a demonstration of DWF Labs commitment to supporting the growth of Conflux.

In a tweet, the head of DWF labs, Andrei Grachev, emphasized how the network is an excellent technology and his firms willingness to increase its CFX holdings.

Conflux has built a reputation as a cutting-edge technology thanks to its Tree-Graph consensus algorithm, which enables the blockchain to achieve a high transaction throughput (tps) of up to 6,000 transactions.

As inferred earlier, the Conflux ecosystem has been experiencing steady growth since the turn of the year. Recently, the blockchain disclosed a partnership with dappOS, which promises mutual benefits for both entities.

How a Fake Priest Led to a $140,000 Fine for a California Restaurant! "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

A Mexican restaurant in California is in hot water for allegedly hiring a fake priest to extract confessions from its workers. It has also received a court order to pay $140,000 to its workers as compensation.

The US Department of Labor stated that an employee testified in court that Che Garibaldi, owner of Taqueria Garibaldi, which operates two branches in California, offered a person who identified as a priest to hear their confessions during work hours.

"The priest urged workers to 'get their sins out,' and asked employees if they had stolen from the employer, been late for work, had done anything to harm their employer or if they had bad intentions toward their employer," a statement from the US Department of Labor said.

The Department of Labor did not identify the fake priest hired by Garibaldi.
Taqueria Garibaldi and its owners and operators did not respond to requests for comment. In response to the incident, a spokesperson for the Catholic Diocese of Sacramento told the Catholic News Agency that their investigation "found no evidence of any connection" with the alleged priest.

Authorities uncovered more findings during their investigation into the restaurant and its owner. They found that Taqueria Garibaldi denied employees overtime pay while managers illegally received bonuses from the employee tip pool. Investigators also found that the restaurant threatened to retaliate against its employees and "adverse immigration consequences" for cooperating with the Department of Labor. According to the statement, Taqueria Garibaldi even fired one worker they suspected...

How Quran-Burning Turned into a Diplomatic Nightmare for Sweden "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Six months after a far-right Swedish-Danish activist and politician enraged the entire Muslim community by publicly burning the Quran in front of the Turkish embassy in Swedens capital, Stockholm, another Quran-burning stunt occurred in the capital, this time during the celebration of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.

The person responsible for this latest Quran-burning publicity stunt was not a far-right provocateur like Rasmus Paludan but a refugee from Iraq identified as Salwan Momika. He performed the act outside the Stockholm Central Mosque on June 28th while Muslims were celebrating the Feast of Sacrifice, which commemorates the willingness of Abraham to follow Gods command by attempting to sacrifice his son.

Momika began the stunt by walking near the mosque behind rows of police officers outside the building, waving two Swedish flags while blasting the countrys national anthem through a speaker system. He then started desecrating the Quran by tearing it up and lighting it on fire with the cigarette he was holding.

The Iraqi refugee also laid a strip of bacon on the Quran and began stomping on it. Another man with Momika spoke to the crowd with a megaphone. Momika has been pushing for the Islamic holy book to be banned in Sweden.

While the display was supposed to antagonize the Muslim community in Sweden and rile them up, especially during a very important holiday like Eid al-Adha, the Quran-burning publicity stunt was mostly mocked, dismissed, or even ignored by the 200 people that gathered outside.

Instead, members of...

Whale Activity Behind Price Increase

The recent surge in COMPs price can be attributed to several factors. One significant catalyst is the presence of whale activity and potential institutional investors. Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain shed some light on this phenomenon, revealing that a notable wallet identified as 0x0D5 has been involved in substantial transactions involving COMP.

Shortly after, the same entity withdrew an additional 120,000 COMP, valued at approximately $5.53 million, from Binance. This also followed the activities of other whales who moved significant volumes of COMP during this period. These significant transfers often indicate bullish behavior and can have an impact on the tokens supply and demand dynamics, thus influencing its price.

COMP Current Price And Future Prospects

The recent price surge and increased trading activity indicate growing investor interest in COMP. The token has surpassed multiple resistance levels and is currently trading above $54.68, boasting a market capitalization of $424 million.

Moreover, COMP has added over $200 million to its market cap in recent weeks, surging from less than $200 million to its current valuation. A Simple Plan: "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Barry Silbert Promotes Positive Changes for BTC

Barry Silbert is a well-known entrepreneur as well as investor who has made significant contributions to the world of cryptocurrency and also owns Gensis Trading and Grayscale investments. He tends also to be the founder and CEO of Foundry and Digital Currency Group, venture capital companies that specializes in funding businesses operating in the blockchain and digital currency sectors. Barry Silbert has become a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency community over the years as his efforts have helped promote positive changes for BTC. This has made him to be a key figure in the development of a number of advantageous improvements in the sector. The following are some major efforts he has impacted in the Bitcoin sector of its growth and shaping it today.

The first one is founding of the Bitcoin Investment Trust. Silbert contributed greatly to the Bitcoin industry with this effort. It was such a great fund that was introduced in 2013 thereby helping investors be exposed to Bitcoin without having to buy as well as hold the digital currency themselves. This move helped legitimize Bitcoin as an investment asset and it helped pave the way for the development of other Bitcoin investment vehicles.

Silbert has also been a vocal advocate for Bitcoin regulation. He recognizes the need for governments to regulate the cryptocurrency industry to protect consumers and prevent fraud. Excessive regulation can as well stifle innovation and hinder this industry growth according to Barry. To better grasp the potential advantages of cryptocurrencies, Silbert has engaged with regulators. He has also assisted in developing regulations that encourage innovation while safeguarding customer interests.

The other major contribution is being a strong advocate for Bitcoin scaling solutions in addition to his work with regulators. Segregated Witness (SegWit) a scaling solution that expands the capacity of the Bitcoin network by segregating transaction data from signature data has been adopted with his backing. The capacity of the Bitcoin network has been boosted as a result of such expansion. This has been beneficial in the sense that it has assisted resolve some of the scalability challenges that Bitcoin has encountered.

Silbert has also been a strong proponent of Bitcoin as a store of value. He thinks that the restricted supply and decentralized features of Bitcoin make it a compelling alternative to established reserves of value like gold. Flat currencies are intrinsically prone to inflation and manipulable by the governme...

ENS Rises 10% As Ethereum Name Service Considers Expanding To Layer-2 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

In a recent community call, the team behind the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) revealed plans to adopt a Layer-2 platform in light of increasing gas fees on the mainnet. In response to this planned move, ENS prices climbed roughly 10%, floating higher with increasing trading volumes, evident in the daily chart.

The Ethereum Name Service

ENS is a decentralized naming system on Ethereum. It provides an easy-to-use and human-readable naming system that allows users to rename mainnet addresses, smart contracts, and other resources. This system permits users to create and employ memorable domain names instead of complicated addresses.

The team behind the ENS believes their solution makes it easier for everyone to interact with the pioneer smart contracting platform, and is handy, especially in sending and receiving transactions. In this arrangement, the platform maps a users domain, the human-readable address, with their original address or deployed smart contract on the Ethereum mainnet.

However, since ENS maps all addresses on the Ethereum mainnet, transaction fees apply, a concern considering the fluctuating gas fees on Ethereum. In Ethereum, all transactions, including transfers or smart contract deployment, must be paid for. The amount paid depends on the level of demand in the network, and the value tends to be volatile. Over the past few weeks, Ethereum gas fees have been rising.

Fluctuating Gas Fees

According to YCharts data on June 30, the average gas fee for sending a transaction stood at $34.62, down from $42.77 recorded on June 5. As of May 12, it stood at $77.88. The only time gas fees on Ethereum fell was on June 25, when it was at $16.58. At this level, the gas fee is relatively high compared to other networks. For example, the average transaction fee in Bitcoin was $2.383 on June 30, down from $9.018 on May 12.

Meanwhile, in layer-2 platforms, transaction fees and smart contract deployment costs are relatively lower, according to trackers. As an illustration, gas fees on Optimism, a popular Ethereum layer-2, is $0.03 as of July 2.

Considering the high gas fees on Ethereum, ENS, via two improvement proposals, ENSIP-10 and EIP-3668, will further expand to a Layer-2 platform as a relief for users sensitive to high gas fees on Ethereum as part enhancing interoperability. During the call, the team said this would scale the platform and open the service to more people...

Ethereum Co-Founder Thinks The Over $40 Billion Staked ETH Can Be Stolen "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

It appears that the co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, doesnt trust the security of infrastructure allowing ETH staking. Consequently, in a recent interview, Buterin stated that he would only stake a limited amount of coins to ensure the network is distributed and remain robust against malicious agents who might try to take over the platform, reversing transactions.

Vitalik Buterin Has Doubts On Ethereum Staking

Buterin has raised concerns about the potential risks of ETH staking through third-party infrastructure, specifically regarding the exposure of private keys and the danger it poses to his entire stake. He believes that implementing a multi-signature system could provide better protection. However, the current process is more difficult to set up, leading to his increased caution.

In a multi-sig system, users have their private key to sign transactions. A specific number of signatures must be provided to approve a transaction, which varies based on the Ethereum wallets configuration. This setup boosts security and reduces the risk of unauthorized access to funds.

During the Bankless Podcast, the co-founder explains:

Probably the biggest reason why I personally am not just staking all of my ETH, that Im instead staking a fairly small portion, is because if you stake your ETH, it has to be all out, like the keys that access it have to be public on some system thats online, and for safety, it has to be a multi-sig, and multi-sigs for staking are still fairly difficult to set up, and it gets complicated in a bunch of ways.

ETH Prices Stable Below $2,000

His remarks have generated a lot of discussion. Most critics are concerned about the entire security framework of Ethereum. After shifting from a proof-of-work to a proof-of-stake system, Ethereum relies on a network of validators who have to stake at least 32 ETH for a chance to approve a block of transactions and earn block rewards and transaction fees. These validators are also needed to secure the network; without them, the blockchain will be susceptible to attacks.

According to on-chain data, there are over 643,000 validators spread across the globe who have staked over 20.5 million ETH. On average, each validator has staked 32.17 ETH. Notably, the validator count has steadily risen over the years, and the number of ETH staked has sharply increased despite the recent upgrade permitting stakers to unlock their coins.

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano and one of the original co-founders of Ethereum, said he was lost for words,...

Okay, have you ever told someones GRANDMOTHER to EFF off?

And now this guy wants to know if he was wrong for not sticking up for his grandma.

Check out his story and see what you think.

AITA for not sticking up for my grandmother after my wife told her to f- off out of her hospital room?

About 3 weeks ago my Wife-33 went into premature labor with our daughter at 31 weeks. It was entirely unexpected and both my wife and our daughter had a horrible time and it became quite dangerous for the both of them.

My wife became preeclamptic among other serious complications and for the first week we werent even sure if either my wife or our daughter would make it. Luckily they both survived but our daughter is still in the nicu after 3 weeks and probably will be in for another 3, and my wife is still in the hospital as well.

It has been a horrible struggle for my wife. Before this she was a very healthy and active person and even during most of her pregnancy she was able to maintain a somewhat active lifestyle, but because of the trauma her body went through she is basically starting back from square one and hasnt even been able to hold our daughter yet. My wife has had a lot of struggles so far with her birth trauma and feels so confused and hurt by her experienc...

This just made me laugh.

Grandma naked repeatedly.

My room is across the hall from the bathroom and I would do homework a lot with headphones on. I heard my grandma holler something to me from the bathroom.

Took my headphones off and look to the bathroom door right as she opened it to go to the guest bedroom.

Turns out she was saying dont look! Naked grandma!

Slow clap.

Used the info to get a way past due raise.

What on earth?!

I guess not me but my dad. He stepped outside a bar one night on a rainy day to get more smokes from his car (this was back when you could smoke inside) and saw one guy kneeling on the ground holding another dude face down in a pothole puddle and the other guy thrashing wildly.

He said that instinct took over and he just ran up and kicked the attacker in the head as hard as he could, knocking him out. He sat with the victim until he left to make sure the dude was ok and didnt try to murder the now unconscious attacker. Then he made an anonymous 911 call so that someone would tend to the unconscious guy and left.

How to Help Prevent and Treat Alzheimers Disease "IndyWatch Feed Health"

In this video, I interview repeat guest Dr. Dale Bredesen, a neurologist specializing in the treatment of Alzheimers. In 2014, he published a paper1 demonstrating the power of lifestyle choices for the prevention and treatment of this tragic condition. By leveraging 36 healthy lifestyle parameters, he was able to reverse Alzheimers in 9 out of 10 patients.

This included the use of exercise, ketogenic diet, optimizing vitamin D and other hormones, increasing sleep, meditation, detoxification and eliminating gluten and processed foods. Its been several years since we spoke last, so hes got quite a few updates to share.

Randomized Trial Launch

For starters, his team has published another proof-of-concept paper and are now launching a randomized, controlled trial at six sites: Hollywood, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; Cleveland, Ohio; and Sacramento, Oakland and San Francisco in California.

Biological aging, brain aging and epigenetics will be assessed in this trial, using newer blood tests that werent available even a few years ago, including phospho-tau 181, phospho-tau 217, A-beta 42 to 40 ratio, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and neurofilament light polypeptide (NF-L).

A couple of these are not commercially available yet, so we're doing these as research, but they will all become commercially available, Bredesen says. Currently, phospho-tau 181 is commercially available and so is the A-beta 42 to 40 ratio. So now, for the first time, you can get an idea, without necessarily having a PET scan, where you stand.

More importantly, you can follow it as you improve. Prevention is key, but also reversing cognitive decline, which we were the first to do ... We've seen it again and again, when you're doing the right things, when you're attacking the important drivers of the process, you see [reversal].

Valuable Tests

The GFAP test, while nonspecific, can be a valuable tool. This test basically looks at brain changes associated with astrocytosis. Astrocytes respond when theres a problem in the brain, so it can give you a heads-up that something is afoot up to 10 years before symptoms become apparent. The good news is if it's normal, you're in pretty good shape. So you want to know that going forward, he says.

The phospho-tau 181 and phospho-tau 217 are specific tests for Alzheimer's changes related to the death of neurons. Genetic testing is also important to ascertain how many copies of the APOE 4 gene you might have. That's a critical piece, Bredesen says. Everybody should know their APOE status. Hormone testing and testing for toxin...

Collagen for Soft Tissue Injury and Repair "IndyWatch Feed Health"

Editor's Note: This article is a reprint. It was originally published October 14, 2018.

Mark Sisson, a former elite endurance athlete that qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic marathon trials, founder of the popular website Mark's Daily Apple and a leader in the paleo movement, was one of the first to help me understand the importance of burning fat for fuel.

Here after we cover some of the basic benefits of high-intensity interval training and strength training, we segue to the topic at hand, namely the use of collagen for soft tissue injuries and repair, along with a few other useful fitness tips.

"How I came to [learn about collagen] was how I arrived at a lot of my epiphanies I had a life crisis. I play ultimate Frisbee once a week, every week for the last 15 years now. But about five or six years ago, I started to develop severe Achilles' heel tendinosis.

Ultimate Frisbee is a very fast-paced game There's lots of running [and it] requires a lot of agility, a lot of side-to-side quick movement, as well as raw speed

I found over a couple of years, in my late 50s, that I was starting to get these real severe Achilles' problems. I couldn't sprint. My Achilles' were really tender. They were getting thick. I went to see an orthopedic surgeon [who] said, 'You have severe Achilles' tendinosis.' I go, 'What does that mean?' 'Well, you're screwed, basically. You can't play sports again'

An orthopedist in Southern California said, 'Well, here's what we're going to do. We're going to take the back of your heel, slit it open and scrape the Achilles' down to the raw meat. We're going to pack it up in a cast for three months, then you'll do nine months of rehab and you'll be 85% of where you were.' I'm like, 'No. That's not going to happen, Doc '

I went back to my house and said, 'You know, there's something I was doing wrong here.' I started to do the analysis and I thought, 'Here I am stressing my Achilles', which is attached to the calves, so I'm really stressing the calves, the plantar fascia and everything around it, on a regular basis. I'm not giving my body the raw materials it needs to recover from that stress. It is that simple.'"

Collagen for Soft Tissue Repair

Collagen-based tissue includes tendons, ligaments, cartilage and fascia basically connective tissue all of which tend to get weaker and less elastic with age. Injuries are also worsened by the fact that there's very little blood supply in connective tissue, which slows down recovery.

While a muscle injury is fairly e...

Important Information About Low Carb, Cortisol and Glucose "IndyWatch Feed Health"

This interview features repeat guest Georgi Dinkov who is a virtual firehose of information and an expert on the work of the late Ray Peat,1,2 Ph.D., an author and pioneer in nutrition, bioenergetic medicine, environmental factors and regenerative processes.

Some of the information in this interview will challenge some of your long held views as it did mine. We all have conformational biases and I encourage you to let yours go for awhile and consider the possibility that some of this information might be true for you and others.

This is among the best interviews Ive done in years, and we take deep dives into a wide variety of topics. The full interview is over three hours long, so Im dividing it into two parts. This is Part 1.

This year, on a near-daily basis, Ive been listening to Dinkovs podcast for two to three hours at a stretch, and I sometimes repeat them two or three times, because each episode is just so chockful of information. If you want to get a deep understanding of biochemistry and bioenergetic medicine, his podcasts on his YouTube channel and blog contain a treasure trove of information that is well worth your time exploring.

The good news is that you dont have to pay anything to learn this information. No books to purchase, no membership sites to join; it is free for the taking, at least for the time being. Georgi doesnt have his own channel, but merely is a guest on other peoples channels, which makes him hard to deplatform.

But who knows what the future holds? If this material interests you even a bit I would encourage you to start listening while you can before it disappears. And, as mentioned, I would also strongly recommend that you listen to my podcast with Georgi multiple times as I am sure that 99.9% of listeners will not understand or fully understand this information unless you are exposed to it multiple times.

How Does Cortisol Work?

Most of us think of cortisol as the stress hormone, but that is not its primary purpose in your body, which is to make sure your glucose level never drops too low, as that could result in a hypoglycemic coma which could kill you prematurely.

Both low-carb and fasting are great interventions in the short-term for those who are overweight and metabolically inflexible, but when used chronically they can damage your metabolism and lead to health complications because they tend to cause chronic elevations in cortisol resulting in inflammation and catabolic lean muscle loss.

So, if yo...

Emotions Are Not Bad Behavior "IndyWatch Feed Health"

From The Natural Child Project/Robin Grille: One of the most commonly heard parental laments is about how children try to get attention. So many behaviors that adults dont like are brushed off as merely attention-seeking devices. Dont worry about him, we say, he is just doing it to get attention.

When children use oblique ways to get attention, such as causing a ruckus, exaggerating or feigning their hurts, picking on other children, showing off, being coquettish they risk being ignored or put down, as nearby adults roll their eyes in exasperation. Sometimes, this also happens to children even when they directly and openly call for the attention they crave. Instead of scorning the child, why dont we ask these questions: When a child is being manipulative, instead of direct, how did he learn to do this? How did he come to feel that he shouldnt openly ask for a hug, an answer to his question, sympathy or just to be noticed or played with?

All children begin their lives with complete frankness about their needs. Babies and toddlers reveal their longings with no compunction: what you see is what you get. If a child reaches out for attention and for warmth and she gets it, her ability to be open and directly assertive is reinforced. By begrudging our childrens healthy attention-seeking behaviors, we unwittingly train them to be indirect. We leave them little room for much else, so they go for the attention they need and deserve through the back door.

Our society tends to consider childrens needs for attention as a bother. No wonder children become indirect attention seekers, some even going to great lengths to fall ill or get injured in order to be noticed. Children who have too often been denied attention can become insatiable, as if no amount of limelight ever fills their cup. Attention is life-giving, a basic need and a human right. Children deserve all the attention they want.

When you wholeheartedly give a child the attention she asks for from the beginning, she soon has her fill. This is precisely what helps her to become more autonomous. As she grows, she asks for less of your attention (research shows that well-attached babies grow into children who are more independent), and when she does want attention, she asks directly, boldly and clearly.

Punished for feeling

Time and time again children are heavily reprimanded for committing the offence of crying or being angry. Lets get this straight: emotions are not bad behavior. Emotions dont hurt anyone. Suppressing childrens emotions does, on the other hand, cause them harm: over time, if done repeatedly, it unbalances their brain chemistry, it stresses their immune and digestive systems, and it undermines their ability to relate to others.

Emotional censorship starts early. One of the most common thin...

People Get Real About What Theyll Never Forgive Their Parents For "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

ARNeverForgiveParents People Get Real About What Theyll Never Forgive Their Parents For

Some people just shouldnt have kids.

Thats a FACT.

But, as we all know, people are weird and they do what they think is best for them and dont consider other peopleeven their own children.

Are you ready to hear from AskReddit users about what they can never forgive their parents for?

Take a look at what they had to say.

Hard upbringing.

My mother was a pr**titute when I was a child. When I turned 4 and my sister was 5 she decided she wanted to earn even better money by pimping out her kids, us.

This was a part of my life for a few years until I went into foster care. Im a grown adult and I accept what happened in my childhood and Ive done the work to heal.

But Ill never forgive her. Some things are unforgivable.

Awful.

They beat the s**t out of me. Sent me to school with bruises.

Threatened to have my sisters split from me if I ever told anyone what they did to us. Now my bio mom tries to guilt trip my sisters into convincing me to let her and her shitty husband back in my life.

Aside from that they also stabbed our dog, poisoned my squirrel and cut my sisters guinea pigs head off.

But Im the unhinged and unstable person.

Some people should never have children.

Liar.

My mom left my bro and I behind to go be a m**hhead while lyin...

Road Hazard Tire Insurance? "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

I have typically skipped getting the road hazard tire insurance over the years. The tire shops generally repair punctures for free (Discount Tire, Belle Tire, maybe others), plus I can do the rope patch basically in the dark due to experience. Also, I was pretty good at dodging potholes, obstructions in the road and curbs.

But when Miss VT and VT jr. Started driving to college classes or living away from home for college it decided that maybe I'll get the hazard insurance on their tires....

AITABadVacation Is He a Jerk Because His Wife Got Upset on Their Vacation? Heres What People Said.

It always sucks BAD when you get into a fight with your significant other on vacation.

Heck, its bad enough to clash on a regular day but when youre on a trip and things go south, its a major bummer.

And this guy wants to know if hes an a**hole because his wife got mad at him on vacation.

Check out his story and see what you think.

AITA On vacation less then an hour before my wife flips out.

Today has been a day

Dropped our kids off with my parents earlier today and drove to our rental house a few hours away for a long weekend away without the kids.

Drive goes well, and arrive and unpack when my wife realizes she forgot her probiotics. She starts freaking out, I tell her Im sure shell be fine for two nights, and she starts yelling at me because I just done understand how important these probiotics are to her health.

I suggest that I can run to the vitamin shoppe tomorrow morning, and thats not acceptable because they wont have the right brand.

She then states that she just wants to go home and our vacation is ruined

I am now beyond exasperated and go to take a shower.

I get out, and she wants me to drive over an hour away (each direction) to get the probiotics shes missing. Our house is 1.5 hours away so I might as well just be driving home and avoid spending money on the probiotics she is expecting me to find.

I told her no, and told her she would...

15. Name one musical album that greatly impacted your life. Why? Miles Davis Round Midnight. It was one of the first (maybe the first) jazz albums I ever bought, and it introduced me to the infinite expressive palette of jazz, as well as its ability to speak directly to the soul.

17. Whats your favorite painting? How does it make you feel? Many to choose from here, but I might have to go with the Crucifixion by Francisco de Zurbaran in the Art Institute of Chicago. In its stark simplicity, its masterful control of light and shadow, its unswerving, remorseless presentation of the fact of Christ crucified, it moves me as no other painting Ive seen has done.

There is No Peace for the USA "IndyWatch Feed Health"

They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. Peace, peace, they say, when there is no peace. Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush.

So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when I punish them, says the LORD.

This is what the LORD says: Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.

But you said, We will not walk in it.

I appointed watchmen over you and said, Listen to the sound of the trumpet!

But you said, We will not listen.

Therefore hear, O nations; observe, O witnesses, what will happen to them.

Hear, O earth: I am bringing disaster on this people, the fruit of their schemes, because they have not listened to my words and have rejected my law. (Jeremiah 6:14-19)

France is boiling over, a thug killed by police fuels devastation "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Search the internet for "race war" and get lots of links into "news" about white terrorists who are fomenting a war, a race war. The link here is a rare piece of common sense. The masses burning and looting are all but white. It's the same on both sides of the Atlantic. A small time criminal and violent thug drug addict was lifted into sainthood by the BLM and used to fuel devastation and death on the streets. The same is happening in France right now. But is it really a race war or just an expression of the frustration of the downtrodden? What do you think those asylum seekers coming from war torn middle east and Africa think about the western "coalition" that has murdered their countrymen, family members and devastated their country. That "coalition" mostly coming from a one country, has a white face. Therefore the demonstrators loath white people. It is war against the white, a race war.

"Though the riots center around the suburb of Nanterre, the entire city is on fire, in what can no longer be called riots. The immigrants are killing cops and seizing their weapons. This is now a war."

An antidote to the civilizational compulsions that rob human nature of nature.

Fox and Bear: A Tender Modern Fable About Reversing the Anthropocene, Illustrated in Cut-Cardboard Dioramas

When Kurt Vonnegut reflected on the secret of happiness, he distilled it to the knowledge that Ive got enough. And yet, both as a species and as individuals in an industrialist, materialistic, mechanistic culture, we are living under the tyranny of more a civilizational cult we call progress. We have forgotten who we would be, and what our world would look like, if instead we lived under the benediction of enough.

How we got here, and what we might do about it, is what photographer, writer, illustrator, and wilderness guide Miriam Krner explores in Fox and Bear (public library) a love letter to nature disguised as a modern fable of ecological grief and hope, partway between The Iron Giant and The Forest, yet entirely and consummately original, painstakingly illustrated in cut-out dioramas from reused and recycled cardboard, narrated with poetic tenderness and a passion for possibility.
