California Advances Bill To Help Shoplifters Steal "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

From Badlands News Brief:
Shoplifting in California may get a lot easier, after the state Senate passed a controversial bill on May 31 that would make it illegal for store employees to confront thieves. SB 553, authored by Democrat Senator David Cortese (San Jose), requires employers to maintain violent incident logs, provide active shooter and shoplifter training, and to discard policies requiring workers to confront suspected active shoplifters, the Epoch Times reports. According to Cortese, the bill is intended to "help employers keep employees safe at work." The bill, which passed the Senate by a vote of 29 to 8, is pending further review by state Assembly committees. According to the California Realtors Association (CRA), the bill will apply to all industries - not just retail, if passed. CRA president and CEO Rachel Michelin told Fox2/KTVU that the bill "goes way too far." "I think it will open the doors even wider for people to come in and steal from our stores," she said. ZeroHedge

It is now fairly obvious that something serious is going on. View Quebec live on satellite here: https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/?parms... Not control burns, not natural (from lightning), and not from "climate change". This looks like an attack of some kind at this point, but I can't rule out the plate shifting / heat releases along the craton edge yet. If an attack, it could be 1 of 2 ways... either a huge group of people doing it coordinated, or a DEW from above (space or air based directed energy weapon). Those are the options. Natural plate shifting releasing heat, coordinated attack orchestrated by hundreds of people working in unison somehow secretly, or a DEW from above. This is getting insane, but there it is. Add in most of Mexico, also South New Jersey, Arizona, New Mexico, and California to the burning list now..... the whole plate with fires along the craton edges and perimeters. This is why I still can't rule out natural so...

Ethereum Plunges Below $1,700, Heres The Metric That Signaled This In Advance "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Ethereum has plunged below $1,700 during the past day. Heres the on-chain indicator that may have signaled this dip in advance.

Ethereum Age Consumed Metric Saw A Spike Before The Price Decline

According to data from the on-chain analytics firm Santiment, institutional investors look to have been expecting the move to take place. The indicator of interest here is the ETH age consumed, which first finds the total number of coins moving on the Ethereum blockchain. Then it multiplies this value by the days these coins had been dormant before their movement.

So, in this way, the metric keeps track of how many coins are being sold/moved each day and uses their age as a weighting factor. This means that many old coins are moved to the network whenever this indicators value is high.

Naturally, low values of the metric, on the other hand, would imply that there arent many coins moving on the chain right now or some coins with a low average age are being transferred.

Now, here is a chart that shows the trend in the Ethereum age consumed over the past month:

Ethereum Age Consumed

As displayed in the above graph, the Ethereum age consumed metric had recently registered a very large spike. This would suggest the potential movement of many dormant coins on the chain during this surge.

Generally, when such large spikes in the indicator are observed, its a sign of selling from the long-term holders (LTHs). The LTH cohort includes all the investors holding onto their coins since more than 155 days ago.

These holders are the experienced hands in the market who dont easily sell even when the market is distressed. Because of this reason, their movements can be something to watch out for, as when they do finally sell, its usually not a positive sign for the price.

The chart shows that the LTHs had also shown a large move earlier in the month. Shortly after these investors became active, the cryptocurrency price plunged.

This time, the spike in the Ethereum age consumed also seems to have preceded a price decline, as the cryptocurrencys value has now dropped below the $1,700 level.

This latest price plunge has come after the news that the US Federal Reserve...

Heres Why The Tether FUD Could Be Good For Bitcoin "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Bitcoin market is once again in turmoil, and the reason is an old acquaintance: no, not the US Federal Reserve, but the worries and rumors about Tethers stablecoin, USDT. Anyone who has been active in the Bitcoin and crypto market for a while knows that rumors about USDTs lack of backing are part of every bear market. And this bear market seems to mean it particularly well as the Tether FUD is now making a reappearance in this cycle.

As NewsBTC reported earlier today, USDT has slightly lost its peg to the US dollar as the Curve 3Pool has lost its balance. The reason for this is that whales are selling USDT and trading it for USDC as well as DAI. However, according to Tether CTO Paolo Arduino, the company is ready to redeem any amount 1:1 against US dollars.

Historically, the de-pegging of USDT is not an uncommon occurrence. Samson Mow, CEO of Bitcoin focused company JAN3, writes:

Tether FUD is always the FUD bottom. Its what they pull out when theres nothing left. Up soon.

Analyst Miles Deutscher has a similar view. He explained: Fun Fact: Stablecoin FUD often marks local bottoms, and shared the following chart.

Stablecoin FUD marking the local bottom?

Bottom Signal For The Bitcoin Price?

As can be seen in the chart, the Tether FUD first surfaced at the end of June 2022. At the time, news emerged that hedge fund Fir Tree Capital Management was shorting Tether after the Terra ecosystem stablecoin Terra USD collapsed. Contrary to speculation, however, Tether was able to process all USDT redemptions, even though the value of USDT had fallen to $0.9520 temporarily.

In mid-November 2022, the cryptocurrency exchange FTX went bankrupt after its competitor Binance backed out of a purchase agreement. The Tether FUD hit a 6-month high and the price of...

Fiat Mindsets Are Making My Patients Unhealthy, But Bitcoin Can Help "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Travis Headley, an emergency medicine physician and medical director of an urban emergency department.

As an emergency medicine physician, I witness the impact of various societal factors on the health and well-being of my patients every day. Among the concerning trends I have observed is the growing number of patients who not only suffer from poor health but also find themselves trapped in a cycle of financial struggle and dependency.

In this article, I will explore the connection between fiat currency and the emergence of what can be called "fiat people" individuals with high time preferences, unhealthy lifestyles, poverty and an increasing inability to care for themselves. Additionally, I will delve into how Bitcoin offers a potential solution to these challenges.

The Health Impacts Of Fiat Currency

Fiat currency refers to a form of money that is not backed by a physical commodity such as gold or silver but is instead declared as legal tender by a government. This system allows for the creation of money by central banks and is based on trust in the issuing authority. While fiat currency has its advantages, such as flexibility and ease of transactions, its inherent characteristics have unintended consequences that impact individual behavior and society as a whole, including manufactured inflation and monetary debasement.

Fiat currency, with its characteristics that can be easily manipulated and inflated, fosters a culture of instant gratification and short-term thinking. When the value of money becomes uncertain, individuals are incentivized to spend rather than save. Consequently, people develop a high time preference, prioritizing immediate consumption over long-term planning and investment.

This mindset leads to detrimental effects on personal health and well-being. People are more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors such as excessive consumption of processed foods, lack of exercise and neglect of preventive healthcare measures. The consequences of these choices manifest in a rise in chronic illnesses, obesity rates, mental health issues and substance abuse problems. Individuals who cannot afford to regularly eat local whole foods often rely on processed foods made with seed oils and other unnatural ingredients, leading to a downward spiral of obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, renal failure, stroke and ultimately a complete dependence on the rest of society to care for them.

The prevalence of a high time preference perpetuated by fiat currency creates an environment where individuals fail to accumulate wealth and secure their financial futures. Continuous spending without proper savings leaves people vulnerable to unexpected expenses and economic downturns. Inflation erodes the purchasing power of their incomes, further exacerbating financial struggles.

Without the means to invest in education, acquire assets...

A Glimpse of the Divine: My Encounters with the Pleiadians "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

As I sit here, trying to put my experiences into words, I realize how difficult it is to articulate what I have been feeling and seeing! I have had various experiences connecting with beings from other realms over the years, but in particular, I have felt a strong and ongoing connection with a group of entities that I can only describe as the Pleiadians! Though I receive communication from them through telepathic messages, their presence is unmistakable. At first, I was skeptical, but as I began to delve deeper into this connection, I found that their messages were full of love and compassion toward us humans. They speak of the importance of love, unity, and consciousness and how we can work together to create a better world for all of us. Although this connection may sound fantastical or otherworldly, it has brought me immense comfort and guidance in my life. I feel blessed to have this connection and to be able to share my experiences with others who may also be seeking connection and meaning in their lives. During their physical presence, the Pleiadians never seem to stay for long. It's as if they appear for a few brief moments and then suddenly vanish, leaving me wondering whether it was all just a figment of my imagination. However, the intensity of their presence is unmistakable, and it's almost as if they are trying to communicate something important to me in those fleeting moments. One particular incident stands out in my memory. I remember walking outside my house after one of these brief encounters and looking up at the sky. What I saw there was beyond my wildest dreams! A massive mothership hovered above me, glowing with a bright light that illuminated the entire neighborhood. It was an awe-inspiring sight that left me speechless! The next day, I overheard my neighbors talking about a strange and powerful lightning storm that ha...

Cardano (ADA) Price Sheds 19% As Bearish Sentiment Looms Large "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Cardano (ADA) experienced a significant upswing in March, reaching a year-to-date high of $0.4622. Excitement spread among ADA investors as the price climbed, but unfortunately, it was short-lived. The price faced rejection at that level, causing ADA to plummet to the $0.3760 support level.

However, despite this setback, ADA managed to find some stability as the bulls defended this crucial support level. Throughout May, the price of ADA fluctuated above and below the support level, giving hope to investors.

However, the tides turned in June when intense selling pressure gripped the market. ADA, like many other altcoins, found itself caught in the aftermath of regulatory issues with its supposed security label. The market sentiment turned bearish, and altcoins suffered significant losses as a result.

Now, the question arises: What lies ahead for ADA as the bearish sentiment continues to loom?

Tether (USDT) De-Pegs As Crypto Market Stumbles, More Downside Coming? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Bitcoin and crypto markets are deep in the red today. Even though the US Federal Reserve announced the hoped-for interest rate pause yesterday, the release of the updated dot plot was a nasty surprise for the financial markets.

The Fed revealed in its updated dot plot that it sees the average terminal interest rate at 5.6% instead of 5.1% for 2023. As Fed Chairman Jerome Powell explained, almost all FOMC members think further hikes are reasonable. And the resulting price slump in the crypto markets is also having an impact on Tethers stablecoin, USDT, at the moment.

Tether (USDT) De-Pegs Slightly

USDT has slightly lost its peg to the US dollar at the time of writing. On Binance, the USDC / USDT exchange rate was at 1.0030. The reason for this seems to be Curves 3Pool, which is one of the most important pools for stablecoin trading in decentralized finance.

crypto USDC USDT

Currently USDT accounts for 73.79% of the Curve 3Pool, DAI for 13.05% and USDC for 13.16%. Apparently, users are rushing to exchange tens of millions of USDT in favor of the stablecoins USD Coin (USDC) and Dai (DAI).

The ideal balance of the Curve 3Pool should be 33.33% for each of the three stablecoins. Due to the imbalance, USDT is currently de-pegging.

Chinese journalist Collin Wu also reports that in Aave V2, the USDT lending rate skyrocketed, including the deposit rate by more than 20% and the loan rate by more than 30%. Some big whales are borrowing USDT on Aave and selling it on DEX like Curve.

One of them is Ethereum whale @samczsun. He borrowed 31.5 million USDT from Aave V2 using 17,000 ETH and 14,000 stETH as collateral, and then exchanged all the borrowed USDT for USDC on 1inch. The borrower then deposited USDC 10 million and USDC 21 million to V2 and V3 respectively. This guy then borrowed 12 million USDT from V3 and deposited it with V2. Wu further explains:

What Did Music in Ancient Rome Sound Like? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Almost all of ancient literature is lost to us, as classical-history Youtuber Garrett Ryan explains in a video previously featured here on Open Culture. But we have even less ancient music, given that forms essential ephemerality as well as the not-inconsiderable fact that the ancients didnt have tape recorders. Still, that hasnt stopped Ryan from describing to us what music would have sounded like in the heyday of the Roman Empire in the video above, for his channel Told in Stone. Not only does he introduce the instruments played by the popular musicians of ancient Rome, he also evokes the atmosphere of ancient Roman concerts, which had their own equivalent of rock stars, notorious for selling out theaters, sparking riots, and talking back to emperors.

They did all of this by mastering what look to us like simple tools indeed. The dominant examples of these were the cithara, a kind of lyre amplified by a sound box; the tibia or aulos, whose two pipes could be played at once (thus producing a fluttering counterpoint that audiences found wildly exciting); and the hydraulis or water organ, the rare instrument that could be heard even over a loud crowd.

Shiba Inu Collapses: How Long Can The Meme Coin Climb Back Up? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Shiba Inu (SHIB) enthusiasts and investors find themselves at a crucial juncture as they seek to protect the coin from sinking below the lows witnessed in 2021 and the overall range lows.

The cryptocurrency experienced a significant drop earlier this week, plunging to $0.00000543, even breaching the 2021 lows of $0.00000510. This decline triggered worries and sparked debates among market participants, questioning whether SHIB has the potential to recover from its recent losses.

However, all eyes are not solely fixated on SHIBs price movements. Many are looking toward the US Federal Reserve for potential signals that could impact the future of this meme coin.

The Feds actions and monetary policy decisions have far-reaching effects on the broader financial landscape, and cryptocurrencies are not immune to their influence.

Shiba Inu Price Watch Amid Fed Deliberations

Currently, there is a sense of optimism among central bank market observers, as they anticipate a likely dovish stance and a pause on rate hikes from the Fed. If this expectation materializes, it could potentially alleviate the negative sentiment surrounding the coin and provide a favorable environment for a reversal of recent losses.

Investors and supporters of the meme coin are hopeful that a more accommodative monetary policy from the central bank would contribute to renewed interest and confidence in SHIB, ultimately driving its price upwards.

Shiba Inu is currently priced at $0.00000655 according to CoinMarketCap, experiencing a 3.73% slump in the last 24 hours and a significant decline of 17.5% over the past seven days.

Shiba Inu statistics made available by IntoTheBlock shows that 93% of SHIB investors are currently experiencing a loss on their investments. Additionally, the data illustrates the grim truth of one of the most well-liked meme coins available.

The data reveals that only 7% of Shiba Inu investors are, instead, turning a profit. 2% of users achieve financial break-even.

She and her husband were having dinner and had a slight disagreement about sharing garlic bread.

This will sound ridiculous, but just stick it out.

Recently, my spouse, daughter (5), and I were having dinner together. He took some food off her plate to try a bite and she responded by shaking her finger and saying You need to ask! He said Im sorry, youre right, I should ask, and then a few minutes later, reached over to my place setting and took some of my food without asking.

I didnt think it was a great example for our daughter considering it happened moments earlier so I said You didnt ask. You just did the same thing to [daughter]. He said, I assumed you were done eating. and I said You assumed. But just ask me. so he handed it back to me, said Can I have some of your garlic bread? and I shared. Very calm, normal exchange.

Bitcoin Price Hammered Below $25,000 Amid Feds Hawkish Tone, SEC Lawsuits "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

For the first time since mid-March, Bitcoin price dropped below $25,000 as trade volumes decreased and the U.S. Federal Reserve left interest rates untouched based on projections but warned of additional hikes this year to combat inflation.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading at $24,995, down 3.8% in the last 24 hours, data from crypto market tracker CoinMarketCap shows. BTC has now lost 5.26% of its value in the last seven days. Crypto assets may be particularly vulnerable to the central banks projection of a higher terminal rate later this year.

Bitcoin price had been stable around $26,000 for the past few days as the market processed the SECs lawsuit against Binance and Coinbase and rising macroeconomic anxiety about interest rate signals from the Fed.

SEC Lawsuits, Hawkish Fed Message Hammer Bitcoin Price

According to Benjamin Stani, head of business development and sales at cryptocurrency trading platform Matrixport, the SECs lawsuit against the two largest cryptocurrency exchanges is a major factor in the markets recent losses. The majority of altcoins also took a beating in value as a result.

CoinMarketCap data shows that in the past 24 hours, the entire cryptocurrency market cap has dropped 2.7%, to $1.02 trillion, while daily crypto trading volume has decreased 5.3% to $31.89 billion.

Despite widespread expectations for a rate suspension, the Federal Open Markets Committee signaled future rate hikes in its statement, which normally dampens investor enthusiasm for risk assets like cryptocurrencies.

Since early 2022, the US central bank has been gradually increasing interest rates, with the most severe effects seen by the riskiest assets. When interest rates rise, it becomes more expensive to borrow money, which leads to lower levels of investment and consumer spending.

And because of the pro...

5 Best Reusable Baby Wipes 2023 (US Version) "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

BellyBelly has decided to update its previous articles regarding reusable baby wipes. Here are the latest Reusable Baby Wipes 2023.
Reusable baby wipes are becoming increasingly popular as parents look for ways to reduce their impact on the planet. Unlike disposable wipes, which are tossed into the trash, reusable wipes can be washed and used time and time again. Washable cloth wipes are kind to your babys sensitive skin and better for the planet, so its no wonder theyre flying off the shelves.

The throwaway culture of disposable items is causing problems around the world. Landfill sites are filling up with disposable baby diaper wipes and other single-use items. Considering all the diaper changes youll do over the next three years, you can make a huge difference by choosing reusable cloth baby wipes.

Are washable wipes ok for sensitive skin?

If your baby has sensitive skin or has suffered from allergic reactions in the past, you might be cautious about the products you use on your babys skin. Unlike standard disposable wipes filled with irritating ingredients, cloth wipes are great for sensitive skin. The soft fabrics are kind to your babys skin and using warm water is also ideal for babies with sensitive skin. If your babys skin is particularly delicate, you should use a gentle laundry detergent when washing the wipes.

Find out more in our article Do Your Baby Wipes Contain One of 7 Irritating Ingredients?

Are washable baby wipes expensive?

Although people sometimes assume you pay extra for eco-friendly products, cloth wipes are actually cheaper than disposable wipes. The initial outlay is greater but they are still affordable because you only need about 30 wipes to last you through to potty training. If you added up the cost of disposable wipes over the same period, the price would be much higher than if you bought disposables. You wont really notice the washing costs either, because there are only 30 wipes and you can put them into the machine with a general wash.

How many washable baby wipes do I need?

Just 30 reusable wipes should be enough to get you through to potty training. Most washable cloth baby wipes come in multipacks, which makes it cheaper to buy enough for your needs. Be sure to feel the different fabrics to compare their texture and how strong they are.

If you use disposable baby wipes, youll need thousands by the time your child is potty trained. However, if you opt for cloth wipes, you should be ok with a stash of just 30. It sounds hard to believe but those 30 wipes can be used time and time again. Thats why the best baby wipes are washable.

How to wash reusable baby wipes

Some people are put off the idea of reusable baby wipes by the tho...

You Can Spot A Narcissist From This Facial Feature, According To Study "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Narcissism, a personality trait characterized by excessive self-love, entitlement, and a grandiose sense of importance, has long fascinated psychologists and researchers. While narcissism manifests in various ways, recent studies have shed light on a unique and unexpected aspect: the correlation between eyebrows and grandiose narcissism. This article delves into the intriguing connection between eyebrows and this specific facet of narcissism, exploring the research and its implications.

Eyebrows: A Window to Personality

Facial features have long been a subject of interest in psychology, with researchers uncovering subtle cues and signals that convey information about a persons personality. Eyebrows, in particular, have emerged as a significant facial feature with potential to reveal insights about an individuals character.

Grandiose Narcissism: An Overview

Before delving into the eyebrow connection, let us briefly review the concept of grandiose narcissism. Grandiose narcissism is characterized by an inflated sense of self-worth, a desire for admiration, and a tendency to exploit others for personal gain. Individuals with this trait often exhibit high levels of self-confidence, dominance, and a tendency to engage in self-promotion.

The Eyebrow Cue: A study published in the Journal of Personality (link provided in the question) explored the link between eyebrows and grandiose narcissism. The researchers hypothesized that certain eyebrow features, such as thickness, density, and distinctiveness, might serve as visible markers or cues for grandiose narcissistic traits.

Research Findings

The study conducted by the researchers involved a sample of participants who completed self-report measures to assess grandiose narcissism. Simultaneously, photographs of participants eyebrows were analyzed using standardized measures to quantify eyebrow thickness, density, and shape.

The results of the study revealed a statistically significant correlation between certain eyebrow features and grandiose narcissism. Participants with thicker, denser, and more distinct eyebrows were found to have higher levels of grandiose narcissism.

Interpreting the Results

While the eyebrow-narcissism link may seem surprising at first, it is crucial to note that this correlation does not imply causation. Instead, the findings suggest that certain facial features, such as prominent and well-defined eyebrows, might serve as nonverbal signals that coincide with specific personality traits.

Potential Explanations

Why might there be a connection between eyebrows and grandiose narcissism? One possible explanation is that individuals with grandiose narcissism invest more effort in self-enhancement and self-presentation, including grooming and maintaining well-defined eyebrows. Another perspective suggests that the link may be due to underlying genetic or hormonal factors in...

My grandfather (born in 1889) grew up on a farm.

One day he and his brother were digging out a tree stump using mattocks, each one swinging alternately from the opposite side. His brother mistimed a downswing and clocked my grandfather on the head. His father put some kind of liniment on the wound and put him to bed.

When my grandfather woke up the next morning, he was blind. His father thought he was faking it to get out of doing his chores and told him to get to work. My grandfather felt his way out to the barn and fed the sheep, and by then his father realized he was telling the truth.

His sight returned in a few days. My grandfather went on to become a doctor and realized that the blow from the mattock had damaged the optic nerve fortunately, not permanently.

XRP Bullish Trend Strengthens, Why A Breakout Could Be Just Weeks Away "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The number sixth ranked cryptocurrency by market cap, XRP, is showing signs of a strengthening bullish trend according to a technical indicator designed to measure the underlying power behind price movements.

Historically, when a particular signal appears on the monthly timeframe, a breakout occurs and sends the coin soaring higher.

XRP Trend Strength Rises Above Key Level As Bulls Get Bold

XRP is still stuck at the center of a legal battle with the SEC, but technicals are potentially pointing toward a positive outcome in the case. That is according the Average Directional Index, which shows a strengthening bullish trend on weekly timeframe.

The ADX was created by J. Welles Wilder, Jr. who also developed the Relative Strength Index, Parabolic SAR, and Average True Range. It was designed to gauge trend strength.

A reading above 20 indicates a growing trend, while a reading below the level suggests a lack of a clear trend. When readings reach 50 or higher, a trend is strong but possibly becoming overextended. XRP weekly charts are currently at 25 and marching higher.

XRP

Getting Directions From The Crypto Market On Whats Ahead

The ADX uses two other indicators in its calculation: the positive directional indicator and negative directional indicator. If the +DI is above the -DI then the market is bullish and vice versa.

In the image above, the +DI is above the -DI highlighting that bulls are in control on the weekly timeframe. The same is true on monthly timeframes, yet the largest moves in XRP arrive when the +DI rises above the ADX itself.

The ADX takes both the -DI and +DI and combines them, then smoothes the results. As such, the stronger the +DI becomes, the more it influences the ADX to increase. Could a growing weekly trend and ADX help give the monthly +DI that it needs?

Did this woman go too far when she called the fuzz on her neighbor?

AITA For calling the cops on my neighbor after they took a package off my porch?

It was left to me by my mother after she passed away 10 years ago. About 4 years ago, a couple about my age moved in next door and weve pretty much been at odds since day one. There have been numerous times and issues that weve disagreed on.

I have 3 cats that I sometimes let out into my backyard. My neighbors have a dog that would jump the 5-foot chain link fence separating our yards to chase my cats. I told my neighbors if I caught their dog doing it again, I would call the cops.

They actually had the audacity to ask if I would be willing to split the cost of a taller privacy fence instead of, you know, training your dog not to jump the fence. Obviously, I refused as I wasnt the one causing the problem and the fence is technically on their property an...

Vibrant Paintings of Different Animals Living Harmoniously Together on Varied Landscapes

Surreal Painting by Dulk

Yellowstone

The climate crisis is unavoidable, and it seeps into nearly every facet of our lives. Artist Antonio Segura, aka Dulk, expresses this idea through his colorful works that both celebrate natures biodiversity and consider its demise. His surreal paintings appear in his exhibition titled Heritage, now on display at Thinkspace in Los Angeles. The images are of animals that seem to be looking at what's beyond them. A variety of creatures confer amongst themselves and move in unlikely packs toward something betterperhaps toward land that is more hospitable to them.

The colorful images of whales, birds, foxes, and more are tied to Dulks travel memories. They include trips to Northern California to see the giant redwood trees, going to the desert southwest, and seeing the arctic circle in Alaska. Witnessing each places monumental beauty, however, is punctuated by a creeping feeling that climate change is a fatal tide that threatens to wash it all away. Dulk communicates this within the scope of his work.

The landscape and animals in Dulks acrylic paintings also include symbols of Indigenous culture. This is especially evident in the scenes from colder climates, which prominently feature emblems of Indigenous peoples. When thinking about the climate crisis, Indigenous people have practices that manage and care for their communities. They take stewardship of their land very seriously. By including symbols of Indigenous communities in his work, Dulk is reminding us that the way forward is looking to the traditions of the past and the people who originally inhabited the land.

Heritage is now on view at...

The Beatles Used AI to Add John Lennons Voice to New Song

The Beatles Photo

Group photo of The Beatles, 1963 (Photo: ingen uppgift via Wikimedia Commons, PD-US-not renewed)

Few bands have reached the level of superstardom as The Beatles. Although two of their members have passed, their influence lives on in their music which is still widely listened to today. And while no one expected to hear another Beatles song, AI technology is making the impossible a reality. A new recording will be released in 2023 and it will feature the voices of living members Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney, as well as the late John Lennon's voice.

How is this possible? Well, the surviving Beatles band members used AI to extract Lennon's voice from demo recordings that he made prior to his death in 1980. These cassettes were donated by Lennon's widow Yoko Ono. Most of the tracks were made at their New York apartment while Lennon played the piano. Right now, there is no confirmed title for the release, but it is speculated that it will be a song Lennon wrote in 1978 titled Now and Then.

McCartney formed the idea for this collaboration after working on the 2021 documentary Get Back with director Peter Jacksonwhich follows the making of The Beatles' album Let It Be. In this project, the film crew was able to separate all of The Beatles members' voices using computers. We had Johns voice and a piano and he could separate them with AI. They tell the machine, Thats the voice. This is a guitar. Lose the guitar. So when we came to make what will be the last Beatles record, it was a demo that John had [and] we were able to take Johns voice and get it pure through this AI, McCartney says. Then we can mix the record, as you would normally do. So it gives you some sort of leeway.

While McCartney expressed concerns about the usage of artificial intelligence in the...

Designing an Eco-Friendly Home "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

Marc Berman at  programminginsider.com has come up with a list of aspects of ecological home design that I think is worth sharing.

Selecting the right site is the first step in the design process.
Orientation: Take advantage of the suns path by orienting your home to maximize natural light and passive solar heating. Position windows and glazed areas to optimize daylight and minimize the need for artificial lighting during the day.
Climate Considerations: Understand the local climate and design your home accordingly. Incorporate shading devices, such as overhangs or pergolas, to block excessive heat in warmer climates or harness solar gain in colder climates.
Landscaping Integration: Plan your landscaping to complement sustainable design principles. Utilize natural elements, such as trees and shrubs, to provide shade and windbreaks, reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling.
Water Management: Assess water drainage patterns on the site and design appropriate strategies for rainwater harvesting, stormwater management, and erosion control. Implement permeable surfaces to allow rainwater to infiltrate the ground, reducing runoff and promoting groundwater recharge.
Choosing the Right Architect: Collaborate with an architect experienced in sustainable design. Ambitious Floating City Concept Designed to Adapt to Climate Crisis

N-Ark Floating City Concept

In an effort to adapt our living habits to the realities of climate change, Japan's N-Ark has come up with a unique floating city concept. Dogen City is an ambitious project that calls for the creation of a maritime city to withstand rising tides. Meant to house up to 10,000 residents and 30,000 daytime visitors, it is broken into three major components.

The first is a habitable ring that creates a bay and protects the city from tsunamis. The ring is tiered, with food and infrastructure sunk below the habitable zones. Within the ring, floating architecture will allow for the reconfiguration of the space according to urban functions.

Below sea level sits a high-tech data center cooled by the ocean. The center will house the city's operating system, as well as much of its medical services. Designed as a healthcare city, a DNA bank, and medical research center, as well as surgical and testing facilities, it will all be housed under water. This will keep energy costs down, allowing for an efficient use of the space.

I have thought that it would be great if we could create a city where people can naturally improve their health by living in a city designed from the start to be advantageous for disease prevention, shared Yuichi Tei, professor at the University of Tokyo's graduate school of Medicine and Engineering. Tei is on the advisory board of the New Ocean Consortium, which will help bring Dogen City to fruition.

What is hyperinflation and how does it happen? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Gradually, then suddenly, goes the Hemingway trope about going bankrupt that Bitcoiners have so enthusiastically adopted. When crypto exchanges, stablecoins and banks are collapsing left and right, it looks suspiciously like we are already in the suddenly portion. And it is suddenly that currencies of the past have moved from the pocketbooks to the history books.

Hyperinflation is a general increase in prices by 50% or more in a single month. Alternatively, sometimes economists and journalists use a lower rate of monthly inflation sustained over a year (but that still amounts to 100%, 500% or 1,000%). The imprecision leads to some confusion in what does or does not constitute a hyperinflation.

Definitional quibbles aside, the main point is to illustrate the ultimate death of a fiat currency. Hyperinflation of whichever caliber is a situation where money holders rush for the exits, like depositors in a bank run rush for their funds. Literally anything is better to hold on to than the melting ice cube that is a hyperinflating currency.

A hyperinflating currency is often accompanied by collapsing economies, lawlessness and widespread poverty; and is usually preceded by extremely large money printing in service of covering equally vast government deficits. Double- or triple-digit increases in general prices cannot happen without a massive expansion of the money supply; and that generally doesnt take place unless a countrys fiscal authority has difficulty financing itself and leans on the monetary authority to run the printing presses.

BACKGROUND: What Hyperinflation is and how it happens

In 1956, the economist Phillip Cagan wanted to study extreme cases of monetary dysfunction. As weve learned over the past few years, whenever prices go berserk there is a big kerfuffle about whos to blame greedy capitalists, vague supply chain bottlenecks, unprecedented money printing by the Fed and fiscal deficits by the Treasury or that evil-looking dictator halfway around the world.

Cagan wanted to abstract away from any changes in real incomes and prices, and therefore placed his threshold at 50% price rises in a single month; any offsetting or competing changes in real factors, said Cagan, can then be safely disregarded. The threshold stuck, even though 50% a month makes for astronomically high rates of inflation (equal to about 13,000% annually). The good news is that such an extreme collapse and mismanagement of fiat money is rare so rare, in fact, that...

You Can Buy This 19th-Century Scottish Castle for $37,000 and Turn It Into a Retreat "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

You Can Buy This 19th-Century Scottish Castle for $37,000 and Turn It Into a Retreat

Do you dream of owning your own castle in Scotland? What about a boutique hotel? Both dreams could collide if you have the cash. A Scottish castle on Fetlar, the fourth largest island in the Shetland Islands, is now up for sale for $37,000. This might seem like a steal, but the castle, called Brough Lodge, is hardly livable. In fact, a trust dedicated to the castle's preservation has a plan the buyer must also finance. If the buyer can pour an additional $15 million into the property, the trust hopes that Brough Lodge can become a luxury, 24-room hotel which will bring visitors to the remote island.

Brough Lodge was built in 1825 by a merchant named Arthur Nicolson. He was likely inspired by his travels through the Germanic lands of Europe to create the gothic outpost on the remote island. Since then, the castle has been passed down the family line. However, no one has lived there since 1970. In 1998, the Brough Lodge Trust began as a Building Preservation Trust, a registered charity. The building received a new roof around 10 years ago. The trust now seeks a new owner who will follow through on designs they have created with eminent designers for a boutique hotel.

The hotel will fit within the existing building in a respectful way. As it is a category A listed building, there are rules and regulations for renovating due to the property's historic interest. Twenty-four bedrooms will be added in an extension covered by grass, while glass-walled common spaces will occupy the historic main buildings. Epic views of the castle and the surrounding sea and rolling green will hopefully draw guests looking for peace, beauty, and a taste of this special corner of the world. The Shetland Islands are remoteonly 69 people live full-time on Fetlar. However, they are rich in cultural heritage centered around sheep farming and wool. They also are home to the delightful Shetland Pony breed.

If all this magic sounds...

A woman named Casey decided to comply with such a request by making a video of a comedy sketch about why she deserved to be hired as a sales assistant in a clothing store.

Casey said,

I was looking for jobs in small shops in my town. I had just recovered from a nervous breakdown so my husband was stressing that the goal of this job was to dip my toe back into daily life, which meant anything that even hinted at being stressful was not an option.

Miniatua Puts the Micro in Microchip in a Series of Remarkably Precise Miniature Computers "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A miniature IBM 5150 computer.

I think its important to understand our roots, where the technology we use came from, and I believe these machines and the people who made them should be celebrated, says Nicolas Temese, a.k.a. Miniatua. By day, the Montral-based artist works as a technical director at an animation studio, and in his spare time, he tends to the exacting details of minuscule, vintage hard drives, floppy disks, and keyboards.

Temese has been fascinated by computers and science since childhood. The first computer I ever played with was an 8-bit Atari 800XL, he says, sharing that during the last ten years, his interest in engineering of early technology grew. He spends hours poring over manuals and documentation of retro models, fascinated by the inner workings and intent on being able to recreate every detail as faithfully as possible. IBM had incredible, clean industrial design back then, with great aesthetic that still look amazing to this day, he says.

Ranging from 1:10 to 1:16 scale, Temeses editions are fashioned from polystyrene sheets that he delicately cuts and shapes before gluing and sanding the components and adding a coat of paint. For softer accessories like cushions, he uses polymer clay. I recently started using resin printing to add details on some of my miniatures, but I have a few projects that I make entirely by hand, he says. Depending on the project or deadline it can take me a few months. The longest project I worked on was eight months.

Making of a Poem: Richie Hofmann on Armed Cavalier "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

A draft of the first two pages of Armed Cavalier. Courtesy of Richie Hofmann.

For our series Making of a Poem, were asking some poets to dissect the poems theyve published in our pages. Richie Hofmanns Armed Cavalier appears in our new Summer issue, no. 244.

How did this poem start for you? Was it with an image, an idea, a phrase, or something else?

As is so often the case for me, the poem began as another poem entirely. I was working on a poetic sequence that interposed my translations of Michelangelos homoerotic sonnets with several short, original haiku-like poems inspired by Robert Mapplethorpes Polaroids. Both artists were interested in beauty and torture. Mapplethorpes photographs are experiments in self-portraiture and bondage. In one of Michelangelos sonnets, the speaker confesses that, in order to be happy, he must be conquered and chained, a prisoner of an armed cavalier (the phrase puns on the name of the object of Michelangelos infatuation, Tommaso dei Cavalieri). Upon reading that phrase, I instantly wanted it to be the title for a new poem that would express the extremity of sexuality and the extremity of making art.

From the sonnets of Michelangelo, I wanted to import a kind of violence of rhetoric (not unlike the dramatic conceits we find again and again in Petrarch). The poems are so desperate. Their pain is sculptural. From the photographs of Mapplethorpe, I wanted to import a violence of image. And the sense that everythingflowers in a vase, classical sculpture, BDSMis part of a landscape of embodied beauty. Ultimately, as I revised the poem, and reworked it into Armed Cavalier, I wanted...

Wheelchair Users Are Excited About Deltas New Design for an Accessible Airplane Seat

Delta Flight Products Wheelchair Airplane Seat Deployed

Photo: Delta Flight Products/Emma Martin

For years, disability advocates have been asking airlines to make travel more accessible for wheelchair users. And after last week's reveal at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, it looks like Delta is about to step up to the plate. Delta Flight Products debuted a prototype of a unique seat that would allow travelers using a power wheelchair to stay in their own wheelchair for the entire journey.

Created in partnership with Air4All, the seat can quickly be transformed to accommodate a power wheelchair. The seat gives users access to the headrest and a center console tray table and cocktail table. Importantly, the design doesn't require airlines to change their cabin layout, which will be key to wide adoption.

The reveal has been widely lauded by travelers with disabilities. An innovation like this in air travel provides those with reduced mobility a safe and comfortable way for them to travel and remain in their own power wheelchair, said Chris Wood, founder of Flying Disabled. It has taken truly a collaborative effort to develop this seat and we believe this product provides an optimal solution for all parties.

Cory Lee, an avid traveler who uses a power wheelchair, told CNN that he was unbelievably excited about the development. Lee has traveled to 43 countries and writes a blog about his experiences. For him, the possibility of flying without being removed and separated from his own wheelchair would be a game changer.

Lee shared that his wheelchair had been damaged twice during travel and that he'd almost been dropped several times while staff assisted him in...

Bitcoin (BTC) Stored On Exchanges Plummets Amid Regulatory Uncertainties: Santiment "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

So far, the supply of Bitcoin (BTC) held on exchanges has recently seen a significant decrease, reaching levels last observed in February 2018. This trend underscores a developing pattern in the crypto market traders and investors preferring to secure their digital assets outside of these platforms.

Data from the blockchain intelligence firm, Santiment, confirms this trend, as reported in a recent tweet. It revealed that the decline in Bitcoins supply on exchanges could be attributed to the prevailing uncertainty associated with the legal actions taken by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against cryptocurrency giants, Binance and Coinbase.

Regulatory Tensions Drive Bitcoin Off Exchanges

According to Santiment, the ongoing SEC lawsuits against major exchange platforms have prompted a shift in the dynamics of Bitcoin storage. The firm maintains that as long as these lawsuits persist, Bitcoin holders will continue to seek safer self-custody options, minimizing their reliance on exchange platforms.

As Santiment pointed out:

Bitcoins exchange supply has now fallen to its lowest level since February 2018. Traders continue moving BTC to self-custody during the uncertainty surrounding Binance and Coinbase. As long as these SEC lawsuits loom, this trend should continue.

Notably, the latest reports reveal that Amy Berman Jackson, a District Judge in the United States, has instructed the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Binance.US to find common ground concerning the original order to freeze the exchanges assets.

Highlighting the broader implications of an outright shutdown, Jackson noted in a hearing on June 13:

A total shutdown would yield considerable repercussions, not only for the firm but also for the overall digital asset market.

Strike Launches Instant, Cheap Remittances To Mexico Using Bitcoin Lightning "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Strike, the global money app, has announced the expansion of its payment service, "Send Globally," to Mexico, the largest market for cross-border payments from the United States. This move comes as cross-border payments from the U.S. to Mexico reach historic highs, with Mexico receiving a record $60 billion in remittances from the U.S. alone in 2022.

By leveraging Bitcoin's Lightning Network, Strike aims to provide a faster, cheaper and more accessible alternative to traditional money transfer providers in Mexico. With Send Globally, users will be able to enjoy instant payments to a Mexican bank account without added transaction fees. In a press release shared with Bitcoin Magazine, Jack Mallers, founder and CEO of Strike, stated, "We're excited to bring fast, low-cost cross-border payments via the Lightning Network to Mexico, enabling more people to send money home."

To facilitate these transfers, dollars are converted into bitcoin, which is sent via the Lightning Network to a third-party partner. The partner then converts the bitcoin into local currency and sends it directly to the recipient's bank account. Strike has partnered with Relampago in Mexico to enable transfers from U.S. dollars that are received as local currency in a recipient's bank account.

Immanuel Joy, CEO of Relampago, expressed pride in the partnership, stating, "By harnessing the Lightning Network, we enable instant, low-cost, cross-border payments and are transforming the financial landscape for millions of Latin American individuals."

Since its launch in December 2022, Strike has expanded Send Globally to over a dozen countries, including the Philippines, Vietnam, Nigeria, and now Mexico. These countries are among the top 10 largest cross-border markets in the world.

Strike's expansion of Send Globally to Mexico demonstrates its commitment to providing accessible and efficient cross-border payment solutions. With the rising importance of remittances and the demand for faster and cheaper transfers, Strike's innovative approach has the potential to positively impact millions of people in Mexico and other countries around the world.
