Terry Crews and Billy Crudup Meet Up After Learning They Are Related by Blood

DNA testing has helped many people learn more about their heritage and that their extended families are much larger than they previously thought. While it is certainly exciting to uncover the minutiae of your ethnic background and to discover new living relatives, it can be all the more thrilling to learn that you're connected to someone you currently admire. This is exactly what happened to actor Billy Crudup, who it turns out is distant cousins with Terry Crews.

The discovery was made by the team at the PBS show Finding Your Roots. Crews had previously appeared on the eighth season of the show. There, he learned more about his father's complicated upbringing, which later shaped his own childhood. Much to his surprise, it was also revealed that 15% of his ancestors from the past five centuries were from Scotland, Ireland, and England, where Crudup's family is from.

Some time later, it was Crudup's time to learn about his family's history. The Almost Famous star was excited to discover that he descends from Nathan Boddie, who participated in a key moment towards independence for the 13 Colonies by voting for the Halifax Resolves. But learning he had a very much alive distant celebrity relative in Crews took him by surprise. Get out of here! Are you kidding me? Crudup said when the show's host, Henry Louis Gates Jr., revealed the connection.

The 54-year-old actor then shared that his son is a huge fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, where Crews portrays Sargent-turned-Lieutenant Terry Jeffords. He was on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and when (my son) hears this, this will be by far the most exciting portion of this, Crudup joki...

Doc Oc Arms Crazy Awesome Inventino Someone Thought It Would Be A Good Idea To Build Real Doctor Octopus Arms

Yall, I feel like real scientists dont watch nearly as many science fiction movies as the rest of us. I say that because they dont seem to be properly warned about the potentially terrible outcomes when they try certain inventions out in real life.

This particular piece of tech comes from a Japanese robotics company called Jizai, and theyre calling it Arms.

Their promotional video shows the system dancing to some classical music, the arms mimicking the movements of human arms. Theyre super cool and also innovative, as they dont rely on a concrete use case, and therefore have more lifelike mobility.

They do plan to have them do more than dance and pick stuff up, too.

The system was designed to enable social interaction between multiple wearers, such as an exchange of arms, and explore possible interactions between digital cyborgs in a cyborg society.

Endless Forest: Mary Maka Digitally Illustrates Otherworldly Woodland Creatures to Tame Fears "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A pink horse bends its head back with a viney flower winding around its torso

All images Mary Maka, shared with permission

Inspired by the short stories of the late Nigerian writer Amos TutuolaMary Maka illustrates woodland creatures with fantastical characteristics as part of her Endless Forest series. The Portugal-based artist has always been interested in mythology and nature, and after reading Tutuolas works, she decided to render spirited animals that could plausibly emerge from the pages of his books.

Often hybrid in form, the beasts are based on unique fears. Hunters gave names to the phenomena and creatures that were most frightening, Maka says. By giving them a name and endowing them with human qualities, the fear became less intense. Spirits that had names could now be allies and help in hunting and gathering. This sentiment grounds her work as she translates each fear into vibrant colors, grainy textures, and playfully exaggerated features, which she hopes ameliorates panic and worry.

The digitally illustrated series began as an animation that is currently in progress. Keep an eye out for that, along with an upcoming poster release, on Behance and Instagram.

5D Shift: Unleashing Primal Dragon Energy onto the Plane of Mind "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Why is our planetary history steeped in mythology of Dragons? Does the metaphor have anything to say about the energetic dynamics of the Earth and how might it speak into the 5D Shift right now? Most importantly, how might a particular kind of Dragon energy support your evolutionary Ascension? That's what Openhand encountered working with the Red and the White Dragon mythology of ancient Wales in the British Isles. Come explore the magical and mystical...

Dragon Energy Speaking into our Shift

The British Isles are steeped in mythology from Merlin to Arthur, demons to dragons. Recently on our annual DIVINICUS retreat, where we're working with people to activate their Merkabah for 5D Ascension, the synchronicity of the Red Dragon of Wales spoke very strongly, and especially, some kind of reunification of the Red and the White Dragon. In Welsh folklore, there's often a combative dynamic between them. But what if there is a metaphysical truth that speaks into the Shift right now?
In the beginning, on our DIVINICUS retreat, it seemed like just another wonderful collection of synchronicities that stir the soul - dragon figures here and there, dragons in the sky, dragon teeth appearing abundantly in surrounding rocks. But when our Sweat Lodge was completed and I was clearing up, afterward, the very last rock I took from the lodge fired in my consciousness - it looked just like a red Dragon's egg! It was one of those "aha" moments that you just can't ignore. It definitely wanted to be explored.
On a previous DIVINICUS retreat, I'd been drawn up to a huge volcanic crater in the vicinity of Mount Snowden, where I was very much shown a dissonant dynamic between Red and White stones, which clearly spoke into the dragon mythology. However, the pieces of the puzzle weren't yet ready to land. Then I heard...

Follow The Trends: Bitcoin Is On The Path To Becoming The Money Of The Future "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Didar Bekbauov, the founder and CEO of group Bitcoin mining company Xive.

The financial industry as a whole is continually shifting toward the digital space, with the global digital payments market generating almost $100 billion in revenue last year, with projections to reach $303 billion by 2030. The penetration rate of digital payments among general consumers is also growing, as a McKinsey survey from 2022 found that nearly 90% of U.S. residents are using some form of digital payments.

And the Bitcoin market in particular is gaining greater attention, as the recent U.S. banking crisis and the negative outlook of the global economy serve to drive more individuals and businesses toward this sector. Bitcoin is seen by many as a sound store of value, independent from governments and banks, providing an attractive alternative to traditional financial investments.

But can it realistically replace fiat currencies to become the money of the future?

Bitcoin Attitudes: Progress To Date

Ten years ago, only a small niche community was interested in BTC. Now, it is estimated that 425 million people across the world own cryptocurrency, following a 39% growth in digital asset holders in 2022.

Up until the last few years, it was the norm for many to deride Bitcoin and call it a fraud. But after 2020, a drastic change in attitudes has taken place, with BTC's perception evolving from a speculative investment to a legitimate store of value and medium of exchange.

The main reason behind this shift is the increasing institutional adoption of Bitcoin. Since 2020, institutional investors have entered the market en masse, fueling a major bull run and accumulating more than 7.8% of the total BTC supply as of May 2023. Consequently, bitcoin has become a legitimate asset class that is taken more seriously by more people.

Moreover, a 2022 Deloitte survey revealed that 75% of polled retailers are planning to accept cryptocurrency payments within the next two years.

Besides that, bitcoin has become legal tender in multiple jurisdictions including, most notably, El Salvador.

Dogecoin Plunges 7% As Whales Make Large Moves "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Dogecoin has plunged more than 7% during the past day as data shows that whales have made some large movements.

Dogecoin Whales Move Large Amounts On The Chain

According to data from the cryptocurrency transaction tracker service Whale Alert, five large transactions have been spotted on the DOGE blockchain during the last 24 hours.

Three of these transfers all saw the movement of the same amount of the meme coin: 600,000,018 DOGE worth $42,946,921 at the time the transactions took place.

The other two transactions were smaller and saw the travel of 337,520,424 DOGE ($24,159,104) and 399,999,992 DOGE ($28,631,279), respectively, across the network.

As all of these transfers saw the movement of such a large amount of Dogecoin, its likely that whale entities were behind them. Whales are humongous holders who carry significant amounts in their wallets, which makes them powerful existences on the network.

Surprisingly, all of these transfers were executed at the same time. Such large whale transactions arent exactly an everyday occurrence, so five of them happening simultaneously is interesting, to say the least.

Based on this and the fact that three of the transactions saw the movement of the exact same number of coins, the natural conclusion would emerge to be that the same entity was behind these transfers.

Indeed, as the blockchain data would confirm, all of these transfers have involved not only the same sending addresses but also the same destinations. This would imply that the investor or group of investors behind these transactions may have made all of these moves with the same goal in mind.

Here are some additional details regarding one of these Dogecoin transactions, which may provide hints about the reason behind why the transfers may have been done:

Shiba Inu Investors Go All-In: 338 Billion Token Accumulation Signals Bullish Cue "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Shiba Inu (SHIB), the popular meme-inspired cryptocurrency, is experiencing a notable change in market dynamics as the tide seems to be turning in favor of bullish sentiment.

Over the past week, there has been a remarkable surge in confidence among large-scale investors who have demonstrated their support for SHIB by acquiring billions more tokens than they have sold.

But what has sparked this newfound optimism, and what does it mean for the future of Shiba Inu?

Large Investors Embrace Shiba Inu Tokens

Recent data reveals that large investors have shown immense confidence in SHIB by acquiring an astonishing 338.1 billion more tokens than they sold over the course of the past week. This surge in accumulation by influential participants in the crypto market has led to a remarkable weekly total of 9.34 trillion Shiba Inu tokens being amassed.

Expanding on this extraordinary statistic, it becomes clear that the interest of large investors in SHIB is far from waning. Their notable accumulation of SHIB tokens signals a belief in the cryptocurrencys potential for growth and indicates a positive outlook for its future prospects.

Such a substantial increase in token acquisition suggests that these investors see SHIB as an asset with significant value and are willing to invest substantial resources to secure their position.

A Tale Of Consolidation Amidst Investor Interest

Despite the recent surge in confidence and substantial accumulation of Shiba Inu (SHIB) tokens by large investors, the price of SHIB has yet to exhibit a positive response. According to CoinGecko, the current price of SHIB stands at $0.00000804, representing a decline of 5.8% over the past 24 hours and a seven-day slump of 7.7%.

SHIB has since been trading within a narrow range, with minimal fluctuations exceeding 6%. Surprisingly, this phase of consolidation has piqued the interest of major investors who have...

Say what you will about Joker; it did, at least, feel like a real movie, which is hardly true of many, if not most, of the influential feature films that have come out since. Yes, they run between 80 and 180 minutes, and yes, they were screened in theaters (though increasingly many viewers have opted to stream them at home), but despite their often considerable entertainment value, they somehow never quite satisfy. If they feel weightless to us, even trivial shot through with not just irony and self-reference, but also jarring lapses into emotional kitsch that must owe in large part to the impression that their creators dont quite take their own art form seriously. Filmmakers surely still want to believe in film, but cant be seen believing in it too strongly: this is the dilemma of our meta-modern age.

Just in the year 2022, we saw Nope, which criticizes spectacle even as it tries to be one; The Banshees of Insherin, which is in dialogue with itself about the value of art; we saw Steven Spielberg looking back at his own life in The Fabelmans, and examining the role cinema has played in it for both good and bad through cinema. Thomas Flight names these pictures as examples in his new video essay on meta-modernity, a term of recent enough coinage to require definition from a variety of angles. It seems like theres very little straightforward storytelling in film anymore, he says. Movies are either part of a multidimensional franchise or are satirical, surreal, or absurd. They might contain a multiverse or twists on a classic trope, break storytelling convention, or some combination of all these things.

J. R. R. Tolkien was undoubtedly a storyteller, but he was even more of a world-builder. One may read the Lord of the Rings novels the first time for the high adventure, but one re-reads them to continue inhabiting the painstakingly crafted alternate reality of Middle-Earth. Tolkien put serious time and effort into the diversity of not just its magic, its geography, and its inhabitants, but also of its languages. Indeed, the whole of his masterwork could fairly be said to have served his linguistic interests first and foremost: Invention of languages is the foundation, he once wrote. The stories were made rather to provide a world for the languages than the reverse.

An Oxford philologist with a special interest in Old Norse, Tolkien had been experimenting with constructed languages since adolescence. But it was The Lord of the Rings that allowed him to engage fully in that pursuit, spurring the creation of such tongues as Adnaic, Dwarvish, and Entish. Like anyone of his linguistic expertise, he understood that, in reality, most languages come to us not in isolation but in families, and it is the family of Elvish languages including Quendya, Exilic Quenya, Telerin, Sindarin, and Nandorin that represents the pinnacle of his language-construction project.

Atheist Republic News Summary: Ugandas Death Sentence for Homosexuals... "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

  • Ugandas Death Sentence for Homosexuals: 'Kill the Gays' Law Now Legalized

https://www.atheistrepublic.com/news/uganda-s-death-sentence-homosexuals-kill-gays-law-now-legalized

Location: Uganda

In a deeply disturbing development, Uganda has amplified its campaign against the LGBTQIA+ community, legalizing an oppressive law that not only further criminalizes homosexuality but introduces the death penalty for what it terms 'aggravated homosexuality'. This newly defined category shockingly includes homosexual relations where one participant is HIV-positive, where the act involves a minor, or where it includes individuals deemed to be vulnerable, such as people with disabilities or those under the influence of drugs. This controversial law, signed into effect by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni last week, marks a significant intensification of the country's existing anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation. The legislation has drawn widespread condemnation from international bodies and leaders, including the United Nations and US President Joe Biden. The law even puts at risk those who support or provide shelter to LGBTQIA+ individuals. Amid a global outcry and calls for urgent judicial review, human rights activists within Uganda are pledging to contest this drastic law in every possible way. This unfolding crisis paints a grim picture for Uganda, a signatory to several international human rights treaties, which now houses one of the world's most extreme anti-LGBTQIA+ laws.

Pepecoin Frenzy Fades: How Meme Tokens Price, Market Cap Were Cut In Half "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Pepecoin (PEPE), a once-promising meme token, has recently faced a significant setback, witnessing a staggering decline in both its price and market capitalization. The fervent frenzy that once surrounded this meme-inspired digital asset has faded, leaving investors questioning the future of Pepecoin.

Pepecoin initially captured the attention of crypto enthusiasts and meme lovers alike, leveraging the popularity of the iconic Pepe the Frog character. Riding the wave of meme-driven mania, the token experienced an exhilarating surge in value, captivating headlines and attracting a considerable influx of investors seeking quick profits.

However, this euphoric ascent was short-lived, and Pepecoins once unstoppable rise abruptly came to a halt.

PEPE Suffers Sharp Decline In Value

In a sudden turn of events, Pepecoin (PEPE) has experienced a significant downturn, as evidenced by its price on CoinGecko plummeting to an astonishingly low value of $0.00000102. The token has suffered a substantial 14.4% slump within the past 24 hours, and its decline over the course of the last seven days has been even more alarming, reaching a staggering 28.4%.

At its peak, Pepecoin boasted a market capitalization exceeding a billion dollars. However, the recent downturn has seen the tokens market cap dwindle to below $500 million as of press time. This equates to a drastic erosion of over 50% of its value on the price charts.

Meme Coin Struggles To Recover: Possible Explanations

Pepecoins failure to reach a corrective bounce raises questions about the underlying factors contributing to its downfall. While numerous elements could be at play, one possible explanation lies in the shifting market sentiment towards meme tokens.

These tokens, which often gain popularity through viral memes and social media trends, have faced increased scrutiny and skept...

She Threatened to Make Her In-Laws Homeless. Did She Go Too Far? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Threatening To Make Inlaws homeless Home Means She Threatened to Make Her In Laws Homeless. Did She Go Too Far?

Some people thrive while working from home and some definitely struggle for a variety of reasons: kids, pets, other family members, etc.

And this woman is having a hard time while TRYING to work from home because of her in-laws

Did she go too far in her response to their behavior?

Take a look at her story and see what you think.

AITA for threatening to make my in-laws homeless if they cannot understand what working from home means?

I (F38) am the primary breadwinner for my household. My husband (42) is semi retired due to an injury at work.

He is a great husband and has taken over all the housework that needs to be done during the day. We share all the duties when Im not working.

Bitcoin Weekly Momentum Crosses Bearish For First Time In 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

In a significant development this week, Bitcoin price has crossed bearish on the weekly LMACD (Logarithmic Moving Average Convergence Divergence), marking the first time this has occurred in 2023.

Does this mean further decline for BTCUSD, or do bulls still have a chance to save the recent uptrend?

Bitcoin Momentum Takes A Turn For The Bears

Last night, the weekly candle in BTCUSD opened with a bearish crossover of the LMACD. Today, we saw a key support level fail at $27,000, prompting the cryptocurrencys value tumble to $25,000.

This bearish crossover and selloff interestingly coincides with an announcement from the SEC about enforcement action against the cryptocurrency giant, Binance.

The SEC claims that Binance allegedly provided trading of unregistered securities to US traders. The list of securities included several top altcoins.

The timing of the legal action, technical indicator crossover, and selloff, gives weight to Sir John Templetons axiom, show me the chart and Ill tell you the news. In other words, major news events often appear to be reflected in price movements and can be predicted by watching chart patterns.

Bitcoin momentum

Why The Crossover Might Not Crater Crypto

However, while the crypto market may be responding to immediate news, its essential to interpret these developments within a broader context. If momentum continues to descend from the zero line, we may witness a resumption of the prior bearish trend, which could pose challenges for Bitcoin investors.

Nevertheless, as seasoned traders will recall, the last time Bitcoin experienced a similar momentum downturn from this level on the LMACD was just before the 2020 bull run. Despite the initial bearish crossover, the downtrend proved to be short-lived, paving the way for significant upward price appreciation.

Looking at historical precedent, it&...

US SEC Sues Binance, Fails To Mention Ripple (XRP) As Security "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

In a shock move that has forced the cryptocurrency markets lower, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on June 5 sued Binance, the worlds largest cryptocurrency exchange, accusing them of 13 charges, one of which is allegedly enabling the trading of unregistered securities.

Top of the list, the regulator said, was that Binance allegedly allowed the trading of several crypto assets, including BNB, the platforms native currency; Cardanos ADA; and MATIC, the token priming the Polygon ecosystem.

XRP Not A Security?

The SEC didnt mention payment company Ripple, the native currency of the XRP Ledger, a platform through which the company bases its flagship products. The two entities have been entangled in a legal fight since late 2020, when the regulator accused the payment company of allegedly selling an unregistered security, XRP.

It should be noted that despite the regulator mentioning XRP, the coins price is lower and weighed by the market-wide collapse that has so far wiped billions in value from the total crypto market capitalization, according to CoinMarketCap (CMC), a coin tracker.

When writing on June 5, the total cryptocurrency market cap had contracted by over 5% to $1.09 trillion. During this time, the XRP price has been down 7% in the past 24 hours.

XRP Price On June 2| Source: XRPUSDT On Binance, TradingView

However, comparing the current performance to how XRP faired last week, the coin is the only one in the green territory, adding 3%. This means XRP has outperformed all the top-10 cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum and Bitcoin.

The failure of the SEC to mention XRP in their lawsuit could be a huge boost for the token and its ecosystem in the days and weeks ahead. This is especially considering the ongoing case.

Ripple Supporters Remain Bullish Despite SECs Accusations

The case is ongoing, but there have been rulings in recent weeks that make XRP supporters optimistic. The presiding judge has denied SECs motion to seal the Hinman documents.

Although the SEC vehemently campaigned for these documents to remain private, claiming they were deliberative and privileged, the judge said the public had the right to know since they are relevant to the case.

These documents are critical in the case as they detail internal communication by the SEC on how they classified XRP as a security.

Still, the judge is yet to make a rulin...

The Poetry of Reality: Robert Louis Stevenson on What Makes Life Worth Living "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The true realism, always and everywhere, is that of the poets: to find out where joy resides, and give it a voice far beyond singing.

If wonder springs from the quality of attention we pay to things and joy springs from our capacity for presence with wonder, then the quality of our attention shapes the quality of our lives. It is a dangerous falsehood that to find wonder in reality is to relinquish our realism rather, this attentive gladness, this fluency in the native poetry of the universe, may be the truest realism we have.

That is what Robert Louis Stevenson (November 13, 1850December 3, 1894) explores in some breathtaking passages from his long essay The Lantern-Bearers, found in his 1892 collection of personal writings Across the Plains (public library | free ebook).

LOS ANGELES Jon Pylypchuk is haunted by ghosts. Ive Got Love for You, the artists current show at the ArtCenter College of Designs Peter and Merle Mullin Gallery, is anchored by a dime-store campfire set-up framed by furry trees and a chorus of pillowcase ghosts suspended from above. Tapestries made from carpet scraps hang on the walls, each depicting a wide-eyed, alien-like figure surrounded by apparitions fashioned from gym socks. Bronze casts of paper bags with eye holes cut-outs offer a simple, refined take on his scrappy DIY style, an attempt to immortalize the ephemeral and fleeting.

Mortality has long been a constant theme in Pylypchuks work, but this latest presentation deals with specific losses and loves in his life; namely, his relationship with his wife and the death of his close friend Tony Fernandez in 2020. Ultra Rare Albino Panda Spotted on Camera in China "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Ultra Rare Albino Panda Spotted on Camera in China

There is only one albino panda known in the world, and recent video footage shows that it's alive and thriving. Infrared cameras in the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan, China, recorded the panda, which was last spotted in 2019. The footage, which was captured in February 2023, shows the adult panda lumbering through the snowy mountains and even getting up close with another panda and her cubs.

The rare white panda is not only missing its spots but also has red eyes, which points to albinism as opposed to other genetic mutations which would cause white fur. Experts believe that this panda, which is one of about 150 that call the reserve home, is 5 or 6 years old. While the white panda's sex is currently a mystery, the animal is reaching sexual maturity, so that will soon become apparent.

Cameras captured quite a lot of footage of the albino panda, but one thing really stuck out to experts. The white panda's interaction with the mother panda and her cubs was very interesting. While the mother panda eventually chases the white panda away, she doesn't seem particularly threatened by its presence.

The cub in the footage is about one to two years old, and the all-white panda is nearly the size of an adult, shared Wei Rongping, a senior engineer at the China Conservation and Research Centre for Giant Pandas. At the end of February, wild pandas in Wolong have entered the oestrus season, during which the female pandas with cubs can be very aggressive when an adult panda approaches or invades.

This female panda was extremely calm and did not conform to the general rule. One possibility is that the female panda is the mother of the all-white panda.

That theory seems to be supported by the fact t...

What Would a World Without Genocide Look Like? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

DEARBORN, Michigan Reparations of the Heart, Chicago-based artist Kristin Anahit Casss exhibition at the Stamelos Gallery Center at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, features more than 100 photographs that prompt the question: Where would diaspora Armenians and other Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) communities be if the Armenian Genocide had never happened? Casss images, which position people in both traditional and futuristic environments, build an imagined world of inclusivity through self-determined and alternative narratives. These narratives re-present ancient indigenous lands and their people whose ancestors endured the trauma of genocide and displacement as healed bodies and spaces.

Casss work depicts the story of Armenian families who, in the late 19th and early 20th century, were systematically massacred and deported from their ancient lands of Armenian Cilicia, and forced to migrate and settle across a number of Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) lands and communities. I think in terms of making art or working, its not always comfortable. Its not always assuredA lot of times, theres maybe a lot of questions, or it can have that thing where Im not quite sure if Im pulling it off. Im not quite sure if its a good idea or how it works. Time and again, Ive come to respect being uncomfortable and leaning more into the process of figuring things out as a way of proceeding.

In this conversation with Colossal contributor Paulette Beete, Simpson describes how her perspective and gaze changes over time, why she needs to forestall the analytical when creating, and what its meant, as a Black woman artist, to always be loyal to herself and her work.

Ominous Developments in the South China Sea Region "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Are the Communist Chinese spoiling for a fight? The week before a US RC-135 unarmed reconnaissance aircraft is harassed by a Chinese fighter jet passing dangerously close and forcing the American crew to fly through the jet wash turbulence. The following week a few days ago a US Naval Destroyer is threatened by a Chinese warship coming within 150 yards of the Americas, cutting in front of the destroyer and forcing the crew to navigate through the resulting wave disturbance of the rough sea churned up by the Chinese propellers. These acts of deliberate provocation point to mounting tensions.

Loss of confidence

In previous days the US Navy has been forced to fire and discipline 2 Destroyer captains after investigations by Naval Intelligence. One Captain of an Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer, the USS Stout, serving in the South China Sea patrol court martialed Commander Applebaugh on June 2nd. On May 19th earlier came the firing of the Commander Angela Gonzales and Executive Officer Johnathon Zhang of the USS Finn as they arrived at US Naval port in Japan. To further round out the current shake up of US Navy leadership in the Pacific theater Brig. Gen. Paul Birch, head of the 36th Wing at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, was relieved Tuesday by 11th Air Force commander Lt. Gen. David Nahom, according to a 36th Wing statement that day. Loss of confidence was the reason for relieving the two Destroyer Commanders while General Birch was relieved from his Guam command for personal misconduct, but nothing of a criminal nature.

Image result for Naval Cmdr.Angela Gonzales fired

More commanders relieved

In addition to these disturbing events there have also been two additional firings of US Naval missile guided destroyers on the east coast, one such Commander Alexa Jenkins Naval Home Port, Mayport Naval Station, Florida. So what is going on? The US Navy says that it expects higher standards of conduct among its officers, but what is equally disturbing is the Loss of Confidence cause for court martial. This implies that the crew of the ship dies not have faith in their command, in some cases in the past such a charge would precede mutiny!

Scientists Capture Worlds Very First X-Ray of a Single Atom

Scientists Announce X-Ray of a Single Atom

For the average person, X-ray specs might still be the stuff of superhero novels; but for scientists who regularly work with X-rays, the technology just took a huge leap forward. X-rays are electromagnetic radiation with higher energy content than our visible light. They pass through objects which, depending on the material, absorb different amounts of radiation. This produces data often presented as images, for example, of broken bones. Now, a team of scientists led by Professor Saw Wai Hla, from the University of Ohio and the Argonne National Laboratory, have managed to X-ray a single atoman incredible technological leap with huge ramifications for materials science and perhaps even medicine.

The study, published in Nature, explains that researchers achieved this feat with a technology called synchrotron X-ray. This technique involves accelerating electrons to make an extremely high energy source. Before this most recent study, only an attogram (10,000 atoms or more) was possible to image given the difficulty of finding a receptor that could register smaller X-ray signals. The team solved this problem by creating a specialized probe which had to be placed extremely close to the atoms in question. This is known as synchrotron X-ray scanning tunneling microscopy or SX-STM. By measuring the electrons excited by the X-rays, the probe could identify which atom it was.

The team tested this by placing an iron atom and an atom of terbium into supramolecular assemblies including other atoms and tiny building blocks. In addition to X-raying the single atom effectively, they learned about its chemical properties in new ways. We have detected the chemical states of individual atoms as well, Professor Hla...

Who Has The Bitcoin? A Closer Look At The Bitcoin Supply "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The article below is an excerpt from a recent edition of Bitcoin Magazine PRO, Bitcoin Magazine's premium markets newsletter. To be among the first to receive these insights and other on-chain bitcoin market analysis straight to your inbox, subscribe now.

Who Holds The Bitcoin?

Bitcoins public ledger comes with a unique level of transparency that includes significant information detailing where the bitcoin supply lives. With the help of address tracking, public announcements and some estimation across data sources, we can get a sense of where nearly 47% of total bitcoin supply is today. A considerable portion of bitcoins 21-million supply is estimated to be lost, which includes Satoshi Nakamotos coins. Theres useful data from both Glassnode and Chainalysis to suggest that nearly 4 million bitcoin has been lost.

Other large amounts of bitcoin are on exchanges, in the Grayscale trust, or in bitcoin miners wallets. Swaths of bitcoin have been accumulated by the likes of MicroStrategy, and more recently Tether. Some 5,500 bitcoin are locked up on the Lightning Network, while other sums exist as wrapped bitcoin (WBTC) on blockchains besides Bitcoin.

Most bitcoin estimates can be tracked on a routine basis when looking at examples, like known U.S. government-associated on-chain addresses from various bitcoin seizures, or when analyzing monthly production updates from public bitcoin miners, while other holding details can be much harder to come by. A private institution may have indicated bitcoin holdings years ago, but isnt required to publicly announce updates of their stash. Other instances include uncertainty around government holdings. China may have 194,000 bitcoin from seizure, but its difficult to verify if this number is current.

All that said, the below chart is a rough cut of available data that can be expanded upon and improved for better accuracy across different groups. These figures come from on-chain forensics, public SEC filings and balance sheet attestations.

Bitcoin holdings separated by type of entity.

Of the 2.3 million of bitcoin on exchanges, the majority resides on Binance and Coinbase. This wouldnt include bitcoin in investment custody products like Grayscale and Coinbase Custody,...

SEC Sues Cryptocurrency Exchange Binance Alleging Violations Of U.S. Securities Laws "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed a complaint against cryptocurrency exchange Binance, accusing the company of violating federal securities laws.

The SEC alleges that Binance, the worlds largest cryptocurrency exchange platform, unlawfully solicited U.S. investors to trade crypto asset securities on its platforms, Binance.com and Binance.US. Per the complaint, Binance engaged in unregistered offers and sales of securities and made false representations to investors regarding surveillance and controls over manipulative trading.

According to the SECs claim, Binance and its subsidiary, BAM Trading, operated as an exchange, broker-dealer and clearing agency without registering with the SEC. The commission also alleges that Binance conducted unregistered offers and sales of its own cryptocurrency assets, as well as profit-generating programs and investment schemes. Specifically, the charges focus on the BNB and BUSD cryptocurrencies launched by Binance, as well as the BNB Vault and Simple Earn programs, and a so-called staking investment scheme available on the Binance.US Platform. The defendants are accused of depriving investors of material information about these securities and programs.

Furthermore, the complaint states that Binance and BAM Trading made misrepresentations about the controls implemented on the Binance.US platform, raising significant amounts of money from private investors. The SEC asserts that Binance evaded U.S. laws and regulation by implementing a plan to surreptitiously escape registration requirements. As Zhao himself acknowledgedBinance did not want to be held accountable for these actions, the filed charges explain. As the Binance CCO explained, [o]n the surface we cannot be seen to have US users[,] but in reality, we should get them through other creative means.

In a response to the SEC's complaint, Binance expressed disappointment and emphasized its active cooperation with the SEC's investigations. Binance stated that it had engaged in extensive discussions to reach a settlement but that the SEC chose to act unilaterally. The company said it intends to vigorously defend its platform and criticized the SEC's enforcement approach, calling for more clarity and guidance for the digital asset industry. Binance also refuted allegations that user assets on the Binance.US platform were at risk, assuring customers of the safety and security of their funds.

The SEC seeks various remedies and resolutions, including a permanent injunction, disgorgement of ill-gotten gains, civil money penalties and equitable relief.

Over 400 Small Businesses In The Philippines Are Now Accepting Bitcoin Payments "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Pouch.ph, a bitcoin payment firm launched in 2021, has announced that it is enabling over 400 small businesses to accept and process Bitcoin payments in the Philippines. According to a press release shared with Bitcoin Magazine, the platform aims to tap into the vast pool of merchants in the country, ranging from mom-and-pop stores to boutique hotels.

Pouch.ph utilizes the Lightning Network built on top of Bitcoin to facilitate faster, more affordable and user-friendly digital payments. With this payment protocol, customers can pay by scanning a merchant's QR code with any Bitcoin wallet, and Pouch.ph converts the bitcoin to pesos, transferring the funds directly to the merchant's bank or mobile money account.

According to Ethan Rose, CEO of Pouch.ph, one of the significant challenges faced by small businesses is the limited availability of payment methods, with credit cards charging fees of up to three percent. With the increasing number of internet and smartphone users in the Philippines, accepting bitcoin as a payment method opens up opportunities for those without credit cards or local fiat currency to make online or in-store purchases.

Some local businesses in Boracay, a popular tourist destination, have already embraced bitcoin payments through Pouch.ph. In the press release, Erielyn Gaston, owner of Kasbar restaurant, highlighted the advantages of accepting Bitcoin, stating that it has allowed her to attract a wider customer base and increase sales. Meanwhile, TIB Market manager Marcel Selfer praised the convenience of a fast and easily available payment service, noting that it provides an alternative to high fees charged by non-bank ATMs for credit card users.

Expanding its services beyond Boracay, Pouch.ph noted that it has successfully onboarded merchants in cities such as Cebu City, Dumaguete, Iloilo and Bacolod City. Additionally, in Metro Manila, establishments like URBN QC, Draper Startup House and KosneyLand have started accepting bitcoin payments through Pouch.ph. The company also offers a Batch Pay feature, enabling business owners to send payments instantly to employees, suppliers and other recipients, simplifying payment processes.

To facilitate bitcoin transactions, individuals can utilize BTCMap.org to locate merchants that accept Bitcoin payments. Pouch.ph plans to extend its Batch Pay services for over-the-counter remittances through LBC, M Lhuillier and Palawan Pawnshop. By embracing bitcoin, small businesses in the Philippines are capitalizing on the increasing number of internet and smartphone users, while offering customers more diverse and convenient payment options.

Immersive Architectural Installations by Sarah Zapata Expand Rich Textile Traditions "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Pillars covered in vibrant woven textiles and fringe fill a gallery space

Sarah Zapata is interested in the presence of textiles. Her large-scale, immersive installations are architectural, with feet-high columns looming over interiors, ladders holding stitched works on their rungs, and structural forms arranged like walls or distant skylines. Expanding the realm of textiles beyond physical touch and practical use, Zapata considers how fibers occupy space and the way traditions and notions of community continue to evolve. What Im always thinking about in installation, and why I find it to be so important, is the viewer is literally part of the work, she says, noting that she tends to use space as a material itself. Enveloping and robust, Zapatas pieces plunge viewers into a world of bold, exuberant fiber.

This past March, Zapata closed a solo exhibition at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, which transformed the gallery into an immersive chamber of dichotomies: palettes of tan and gray jutted up against red and lavender, the sleek lines of painted stripes contrasted with the textured fringe of fiber, and calm, neutral tones were met with the regal, riotous energy of vivid color.

Titled a resilience of things not seen, the exhibition referenced the Book of Revelation, the apocalyptic Christian text that Zapata encountered frequently as...

I work in a blue-chip gallery, and its not unusual that Im asked if I grew up in Newport when I say that Im from Rhode Island. It often feels like a loaded question, more social barometer than casual inquiry, and its clear that my response will either indicate our mutual class affiliation or amplify the differences that I already know exist between us. Sometimes I can see the flare of pleasure that people feel when they say Newport, the word conjuring, as it must, visions of sailboats and private beaches, country clubs and rocky cliffs thrashed by the waves of a restless Atlantic. I always sense that theres a secret on the other side of the inquiry, but I guess I will never know exactly what it is; I grew up half an hour west of Bellevue Avenue in a modest split-level ranch that my father built. Ive seen only small slices of those gated houses, the quick flashes of stone and shingle that are revealed through a break in the trees.

In high school I had a friend named Vanessa whose mother was a nurse at Newport Hospital. We would sometimes catch a ride with her and walk up and down Thames Street, where we shoplifted scented lotions from Crabtree & Evelyn and searched diners and parking lots for the towns seemingly nonexistent boys. I dont remember that we ever once considered spending an afternoon following Cliff Walk, the coastal path that wends its way past Newports eccentric archipelago of Gilded Age mansions. We liked looking at things we couldnt afford, but only if we could fit them into our pockets, only if we could take them home with us to scrutinize within the privacy of our own bedrooms.

I briefly moved back to Rhode Island following the collapse of my first marriage. It was the summer before I turned twenty-seven, and I spent three months hiding away in my childhood bedroom, grief-damaged and humiliated by the task of trying to figure out who and how I was supposed to be. My husband and I had managed to stay married for only f...

Shockingly Complete 1,100-Year-Old Hebrew Bible (aka Tanakh) Sells for Over $38 Million

Shockingly Complete 1,100-Year-Old Hebrew Bible, or Tanakh, Sells for Over $38 Million

The Codex Sassoon. (Photo: Sotheby's)

The Hebrew Bible is a foundational text of human history, no matter your religion or belief in its contents. A sacred text, known as Tanakh, it comprises 24 books including the five books of Moses. Jewish, Christian, and Muslim sacred texts are either derived from or influenced by this ancient text. This incredibly special, early 10th-century manuscript is one of the most complete and ancient Bibles, explaining why it recently fetched over $38 million at auction.

The volume is known as the Codex Sassoonnamed after its 1929 purchaser, David Solomon Sassoon, a collector of Jewish manuscripts. The binding is modern and carries Sassoon's crest on the interior plate. Bound within are 792 pages weighing a whopping 26 pounds. Only 12 leaves of the text are missing. Some portions of pages have been lost to time and new pieces stitched in, the text carefully recopied. Most fascinating is the marginalia, known as Masorah notes. The Masorah parva, miniscule text which was quite abbreviated, and the Masorah magna, usually at the top and bottom margins. Both types of Masorah notes were aids to scholars and scribes replicating the Tanakh by hand. These notes indicated textual features and where they were repeated throughout the volume, to ensure the preservation of the true text.

The Sassoon Codex fills an important niche in Jewish, and human, history. The Dead Sea Scrolls date at their latest to the first century CE. The Aleppo Codexwhich is mentioned by the Sassoon textwas created around 930....

Extending nearly 230 feet from end to end, the billowing panels of Janet Echelmans newest installation capture the sun as it wafts above an intersection in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The first of the sculptors works (previously) to be installed over a street, Current is composed of 78 miles of blue and red twine tied into more than half a million knots. Alluding to currents of electricitycentral to the citys industrial heritage along the Scioto Riverand the currents of the river itself, the artwork visualizes the flow of energy and nods to the areas iconic illuminated arches, which were among the first to adopt gas lighting in the early 19th century.

Using the surrounding buildings as both literal and figurative anchors, Echelman expresses her fascination with how Columbus has evolved over time. The red fiber references the bricks of early buildings, and the blue suggests the color of water. In a statement about the project, the artist shares that she hopes the work captures that idea of interconnectedness and creates a space where p...

Surreal Stretchy Ceramic Pots Imagine Souls Trying To Escape From Within "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Surreal Stretchy Ceramic Pots Imagine Souls Trying To Escape From Within

Surreal Ceramics by Jackson Shaner

This post may contain affiliate links. If you make a purchase, My Modern Met may earn an affiliate commission. Please read our disclosure for more info.

Artist Jackson Shaner creates pottery that borders on terrifying. His surreal vessels appear as the keeper of souls, and those souls are trying to escape. The screaming faces and tiny hands attempt to break the confines of the pots, stretching the sides and showcasing the vessels' malleable strength. (The pots, after all, are strong enough to contain the force of these beings.) The resulting pieces are frightening yet thought-provoking and invite us to consider who and what is inside.

The inspiration for Shaners work lies in classical sculpture, contemporary ceramics, fantasy, and horror. I make pots that act as metaphors for emotional containment, he tells My Modern Met, how I tend to ball up emotions and hold them in, only allowing myself to release and be vulnerable in specific circumstances.

The vessels, a combination of wheel-throwing and sculpture, have a double meaning. They hold physical objects as well as the intangible. Shaner's primary interest lies in what we cannot see.  My work deals with themes of containment, struggle, and somatization: how emotions can create physical sensations of discomfort, tension, and even pain.

Shaner pours himself into every part of the process. [It] is extremely cathartic and empowering as it allows my emotions to take up, and activate space. Although the work is personal, the viewer is an important component. I enjoy hearing viewers' diverse interpretations, as I believe they bring new energy and meaning to my work.

Shaner sells his work on his Instagram...

Help stop two bad vaccines bill in the New Jersey Legislature! "IndyWatch Feed Food"

New Jersey Legislative Bills A. 5445 and S. 3841 would trivialize very real vaccine risks and serious reactions by allowing optometrists to vaccinate.

Previously, under the Emergency Health Powers Act, optometrists were allowed to administer immunizations against a coronavirus or influenza during a public health emergency involving an outbreak or epidemic  limited to administering immunizations against the specific disease for which the public health emergency was declared.  Those receiving vaccines from optometrists had to be 18 years or older and the records were required to be reported to the New Jersey Immunization Information System for inclusion in the patients registry.

A. 5445 and S. 3841 would:

  • Remove the public health emergency requirement for optometrist vaccine administration
  • Allow optometrists to administer vaccines to patients over 18 years old even when no public health emergency is declared
  • Expand the number of vaccines optometrists are able to give by adding the varicella-zoster vaccines to the list of vaccines optometrists can give
  • Continue to require that all immunization records be reported to the New Jersey Immunization Information System for inclusion in the patients registry

All immunization records would be forwarded to the state vaccine database tracking system.

Any time optometrists are allowed to vaccinate, it creates significant risks.  Optometrists are not qualified to recognize or handle serious adverse reactions, nor are they likely to have full knowledge of patient or family history.

The Weston A. Price Foundation does not take a position on other sections of the bill dealing strictly with eye care procedures.

Please speak up!

El Salvador Unleashes "Volcano Energy" With 241 Megawatt Planned Bitcoin Mining Operation "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The country of El Salvador is tapping into its abundant natural resources to create Volcano Energy. According to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, the aim is to position the country as a major global player in the Bitcoin mining industry while promoting energy competitiveness, diversification and geographic expansion for the Bitcoin network. Adopting a debt-free approach, El Salvador plans to construct a 241 megawatt (MW) renewable power generation park in the Metapn region, combining solar and wind projects.

"This project is a transformative journey that will establish one of the world's largest Bitcoin mining farms," the release said. Located in the El Shiste hamlet, within the municipality of Metapn, Santa Ana, this chosen site boasts exceptional solar and wind energy yields in the country. The park will have a capacity of 169MW of photovoltaic solar energy and 72MW of wind energy. The initial computational power is expected to surpass 1.3 EH/s, marking a significant milestone for the country and industry.

The release stated that The total commitment for the project is $1 billion, beginning with a first investment of $250 million, bootstrapped by key Bitcoin industry leaders, with collaboration from top developers and manufacturers of renewable energy technology, as well as Bitcoin mining experts on a global scale. The government of El Salvador will play a crucial role in the planning and execution of the initiative, securing a preferred participation equivalent to 23% of the revenue. The remaining ownership will be divided among investors and reinvested in expanding energy production capacity and advancing Bitcoin mining.

Robert Warren of Distributed Hash explained on Twitter that the reasoning behind leveraging wind and solar is likely to monetize quicker to build upon a base set of geothermal expansion.

By leveraging Volcano Energy, El Salvador aims to create a prosperous future driven by sustainable energy and Bitcoin. As the countrys investment progresses volcanoes could serve as the backbone of this transformation, fostering economic growth and prosperity for future generations. The establishment of the renewable power generation park signifies a large step towards achieving these goals while cementing El Salvador's position in the global Bitcoin mining industry.

  • A new South Korean study suggests that exposure to high concentrations of air pollutants during pregnancy is linked to the development of autism or epilepsy in children. The authors believe that maternal exposure to contaminants such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), particulate matter (PM2.5) and heavy metals can cause inflammation, oxidative stress, and DNA methylation in the placenta, which can lead to disturbances in oxygen and nutrient transport to the fetus. These exposures, in turn, can cause a fetal systemic inflammatory response that adversely affects brain development.
  • Dr. Robert Naviaux has published a new paper that examines salugenesis, the bodys healing cycle. Salugenesis regulates the orchestration of the molecular, cellular, inflammatory, autonomic, neuroendocrine, and behavioral steps needed for the body to heal. His study also discusses the rise and fall of extracellular ATP after stress or injury. Naviaux proposes that the rising increase in chronic disease stems from impaired salugenesis, incomplete healing, pollution, and ecosystem changes caused partly by environmental factors.
