Nam Le and Nancy Lemann Recommend "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.

The pandemic seemed like a good time to read the ninety-odd novels of Balzac that comprise The Human Comedy. (Which you can get on your Kindle for ninety-nine cents, by the way.) I was definitely obsessed with Balzac in my first youth. Some lines and ideas of his were then emblazoned on my brain: the ruthless mastery an artist must have over his material to boldly cut and shape it; the impetuous courage of the South; the tenacity of purpose which works miracles when it is single-minded.

Once, in my first youth (I probably got the phrase first youth from Balzac), I was having dinner with my brother, Nick Lemann, and about a dozen of his friends, all journalists like him; I was sitting right smack in the middle of the table, and I was, as I recall it, the only girl. They kept talking about politics, of course, and I wasnt interested in politics at all and still know nothing about them, so eventually I fished out a Balzac novel from my purse and started pointedly reading it in the middle of dinner at the table, amid their conversation. It was like saying, You can be interested in politics, I am interested in Balzac.

I have no regrets about it. I was making a point! The scene is emblazoned on my brain. It was the only way I could assert myself in that context! It got their attention.

No More Crab: Bitcoin Poised For Explosive Move Above $30,000 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin is recording minor profits on higher timeframes but has been unable to display significant price action. In this context, volatility is reaching a record low, but the status quo could suddenly shift in the short term.

As of this writing, Bitcoin trades at $27,100 with sideways movement in the last 24 hours. In the previous week, BTC recorded a 3% increase, while other assets in the top 10 by market capitalization show similar performance, with XRP and MATIC leading the small uptick.

The New And Old Status Quo, Bitcoins Path Towards New Highs

Per a recent report from the trading desk of QCP Capital, the macroeconomic landscape has become clear as political actors in the U.S. reached a compromise on the Debt ceiling. The narrative around this event was triggering uncertainty in the financial sector.

Increased uncertainty contributed to the decline in volatility and the sideways movement across risk-on assets, including Bitcoin. In that sense, QCP Capital claims that BTC is following a trajectory similar to 2020 when uncertainty in the macro scene and the crypto market emerged from a long winter.

At that time, the cryptocurrency declined to a critical level and displayed sideways movement throughout the year. As seen in the chart below, Bitcoin has not only behaved as it did in 2020 but trended upwards later that year.

How to Invest in Cryptocurrency for Beginners "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

What is cryptocurrency investment?

Cryptocurrency investment in its most basic form is the process of buying digital currencies and holding them in the hope that the market falls in your favour while your portfolio increases in value.

The value of a cryptocurrency is determined by the principle of supply and demand. As demand for a cryptocurrency, coin or token rises, there becomes fewer of them in circulation resulting in a boom in price action. If the supply of coins outpaces demand for them, their value typically falls.

There are several indicators that might draw an investor towards a particular cryptocurrency. Some investors and traders choose which cryptocurrencies to invest in by conducting a technical analysis of a range of coins.

An investor might have certain criteria that need to be met to invest. For example, cryptocurrencies that are in an overall uptrend, are showing positive signs of adoption and have a durable, scalable blockchain interface are more desirable than those that dont.

Common types of crypto investing

There are many ways to invest in cryptocurrency, besides directly purchasing coins or tokens through an exchange.

Some of the common types of crypto investing include:

Investing in crypto-oriented or pro-crypto companies As the prices of cryptocurrencies soar, so does the stock price in companies that form their business around them. Companies that are able to integrate cryptocurrency blockchain networks into their service offering can prove profitable as cryptocurrency use becomes more widespread.

Investing in crypto-heavy funds Crypto funds typically carry less risks than committing capital to one specific cryptocurrency. As some cryptocurrencies bull and others bear (decrease or increase), fund holders can still benefit from having their losses hedged by their gains making them attractive to more risk-averse investors.

Buy crypto EFTs on a brokerage platform Similar to crypto funds, EFTs can also be a great way diversify a portfolio without committing large amounts of capital. The price of an EFT is determined by the price action of a group of coins or tokens rather than just one making it a safer option for novice investors.

Incorporate cryptocurrency into your Roth IRA or 401K More and more brokerages and investing platforms are allowing cryptocurrency allocations to be held in an IRA or 401K account. For example, Fidelity is unveiling plans to allow users to dedicate 20% of their 401k holding to cryptocurrencies allowing investors to diversify their 401k.

What do I need to know before investing in cryptocurrency?

Before plunging into the world of cryptocurrencies, there are a few things to consider:

Cryptocurrencies are unregulated and decentralized Despite being one of the allures that draw investors toward...

Then Things Went Bad: How I Won $264 at Preakness "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Photograph by Tarpley Hitt.

Theres a shortage of good signs en route to the Preakness Stakes, the annual horse race in Baltimore best known as the Kentucky Derbys older, less attended sibling. By good, I mean the useful types that tell you where to go. There are plenty of other kinds: ads stationed outside delis; DIY posters offering lawns, driveways, and other car-size surfaces as extremely pricey parking options; at least two hotel-related banners on propeller planes; and sandwich boards affixed to roving scalpers, which read, counterintuitively, I NEED TICKETS. The result is a ring of confused, directionless traffic around the track, where its easy to forget that everyone has come for a spectacle essentially premised on speed.

The lack of organization at the Preakness is appropriate; horse racing is Americas least centralized sport. There is no MLB or NFL or NBA or NHL for this game. There is a panoply of jockey clubs, trainers groups, state racing boards, owners associations, and veterinarian organizations. The racing rules change from state to state. The racing seasons change from track to track. Even the kind of race a horse runs may fluctuate with the weather. This tradition of casually maintained chaos is almost a point of pride. In 2020, when Congress passed the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA)a modest attempt to standardize antidoping rules across the industryit was met with three years of bitter infighting, five federal lawsuits challenging its constitutionality, and most recently, an exquisitely melodramatic public letter from the U.S. Trotting Association that opens with a Thomas Paine quote. That is to say, its in the spirit of horse racing that, this past Saturday, as I approached the venue, I had no idea where to go or who was in charge, and neither, seemingly, did anyone there....

LEGOLAND Unveils Life-Size Ferrari Made From Over 380,000 LEGO Bricks

Life SIze Ferrari Sculpture Out of LEGO Bricks

Few cars are as iconic as a red Ferrari. Many children grow up with toy models of this stunning automobile. Now, LEGOLAND is bringing another way for children and adults alike to enjoy the design of these Italian cars. A new exhibit at the LEGOLAND Billund Resort in Denmark called Build and Race features a lifesize replica of the Ferrari Monza SP1, which is constructed from 383,610 LEGO bricks.

The amazing sculpture bears an uncanny resemblance to the real ridged texture as a result of the thousands of stacked bricks. The hood, lights, and even the controls are made from LEGOs. A genuine steering wheel and set of rubber tires bring the piece to life. Due to the number of elements involved, it's no surprise that the installation weighs over 2,900 pounds.

In addition to sharing this stunning piece of design, the Build and Race exhibit also includes interactive attractions for guests to make their own LEGO Ferraribut on a much smaller scale. LEGOLAND will even scan the amateur cars and place exhibit opened in Denmark on May 18, and will be opening at the British LEGOLAND in summer 2023.

BitTorrent Bridge Breakthrough: Justin Suns TRX To Reach Ethereum Network "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Justin Sun, the founder of the Tron blockchain, has announced that the Tron networks native asset, TRX, can now be fully accessed on Ethereum (ETH), the largest altcoin network in the cryptocurrency industry. This has been made possible through the BitTorrent Bridge, which allows for seamless interoperability between the two blockchains.

BitTorrent Bridge Paves The Way To Ethereum Integration

Interoperability in the context of blockchain refers to the ability of different blockchains to communicate and exchange information with each other seamlessly. In this case, the BitTorrent Bridge enables Trons native asset, TRX, to be transferred and accessed on the Ethereum network, and vice versa.

Related Reading: Litecoin Breaks $95 As Whale Transactions Spike

This means that TRX holders can now access the larger Decentralized Finance (DeFi) market and decentralized applications (dapps) available on Ethereum, while Ethereum users can now access TRX and its associated dApps on the Tron network. The BitTorrent Bridge acts as an intermediary between the two blockchains, facilitating the transfer of assets and data in a secure and decentralized manner.

The move is a significant development for the Tron ecosystem, which is currently the second-largest DeFi ecosystem with over $5.6 billion in total value locked and more than 2.9 million active users, according to DeFiLlama data.

Justin Suns tweet regarding the Ethereum expansion via BitTorrent Bridge has already had a positive impact on TRXs price, with the asset jumping by 2% following the announcement. This further demonstrates the potential for Tron to expand its reach and appeal to a wider audience in the cryptocurrency industry.

Bittorrent

With Trons expansion to Ethereum, the cryptocurrency industry continues to see the growing importance of interoperability between different blockchains. As more projects explore the potential of cross-chain functionality, the industry is likely to see further development and innovation in the coming years.

TRON Sets New Daily Transaction Record

Despite the challenges faced by the cryptocurrency industry in recent months, TRON has continued to perform strongly, defying expectations and posting impressive growth. According to a Twitter thread by Justin Sun, the network hit a...

Vying to be the worlds largest bathtub toy is a game that two can play. Ten years after his enormous rubber duck sailed through Hong Kongs Victoria Harbour, Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman marks the occasion with Double Ducks. The identical inflatable artworks sit side-by-side in the waterway, designed to be hitched to tugboats and escorted in all of their sunny splendor, foregrounding the famous panoramic views of the citys skyline.

Known for his playful, monumental installations, Hofman approached the project as a celebration of friendship and joy. The pair represent unity and togetherness, drawing on the symbolism of the symmetrical Chinese characters (happiness) and (friends). Due to COVID we learned that spending time together is so valuable, Hofman says in a statement. Making moments and memories for real, living in the here and now, are things to cling on to Double Ducks is not about looking into the past but enjoying the moment together!

The National WWII Museum Dedicates Itself to Honoring Americas Role in the War "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The National WWII Museum Dedicates Itself to Honoring Americas Role in the War

The National World War II Museum in New Orleans

Located in New Orleans, the National WWII Museum focuses on the contributions that America made to the Allied victory in World War II. Through exhibitions and memorabilia, the museum walks visitors through the American experience of this conflict. World War II engulfed the entire world from 1939 to 1945, and the museum does an incredible job of showing the many aspects of its all-encompassing nature.

The National WWII Museum originally opened in 2000 at The National D-Day Museum. As such, the original configuration of the museum focused heavily on the invasion of Normandy. The Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, the first building on site, still displays the Higgins boats that were crucial to America's amphibious invasions. These boats were manufactured and tested in New Orleans, making the city a natural fit for the museum.

Congress rebranded the museum in 2004, and today, the National WWII Museum is not one building but an entire campus dedicated to this critical moment in history. Five pavilions are spread across its six-acre campus to house the exhibitions, on-site restorations, a period dinner theater, and restaurants. There is also space dedicated to the historic aircraft and submarines that helped win the war, with models on display in several pavilions.

The exhibitions focus on different aspects of the war, with coverage of the Pacific war, the European war, and life on the home front. With over 250,000 artifacts in its vaults, the museum has plenty of material to draw from. And it is also dedicated to keeping the memory of veterans alive thanks to a rich collection of memoirs and personal accounts.

By covering all aspects of the war, from what led up to the conflict to America's participation and how it affected the nation, the museum helps the public understand the past and, hopefully, learn lessons that can be used in the futu...

Gold solidus of the ill-fated Roman emperor Jovian (r. 363-364 CE). As senior member of the Imperial bodyguard unit known as Scholae, Jovian accompanied Julian the Apostate on his campaign against the Parthians. Following Julians death from a wound sustained in battle, the army selected Jovian as his successor. The Christian Jovian went on to undo his predecessors attempts at restoring traditional Greco-Roman religion; he issued an edict of toleration, allowing both Nicene and Arian worship, but banned magic and divination. He attempted to reach Constantinople and establish his rule firmly, but it was not to be: he was found dead in his tent, perhaps accidentally smothered by poisonous fumes (though, inevitably, there was suspicion of foul play). He was only 33.

Litecoin Breaks $95 As Whale Transactions Spike "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Litecoin has recently managed to break past the $95 mark as on-chain data shows the whales have become active on the network.

Litecoin Has Surged After Spike In Whale Activity

According to data from the on-chain analytics firm Santiment, the current whale activity is the highest it has been since January. The relevant indicator here is the whale transaction count, which measures the total number of transfers taking place on the Litecoin network that involve the movement of coins worth at least $100,000.

Since such transactions are quite large in scale, generally only the whale entities are capable of making them. Thus, this indicator can provide us with an idea about the number of transfers that these humongous holders are making on the blockchain.

Due to the sheer number of coins involved in each of these transfers, if a large amount of them take place at once, the market can register noticeable fluctuations. So, whenever the whale transaction count has a high value, the price of LTC becomes more probable to display volatility.

On the other hand, when this metric has low values, the price may stay relatively calm, as it suggests that the whales arent making too many moves on the market right now.

Now, here is a chart that shows the trend in the Litecoin whale transaction counts over the last six months or so:

Litecoin Whale Transaction Count

As shown in the above graph, the Litecoin whale transaction count has observed a large spike recently. This means that whales have ramped up their transfer activity in the last couple of days.

At the peak of this spike, the indicator had reached its highest level since January 26, 2023. These high values have come as the price has been going up, and since they have taken place, the uptrend has only continued further, with LTC managing to break past $95.

Generally, when whales become active, the price volatility can go either way as the transaction count metric only tells us about the pure number of transfers happening on the chain and not about whether they are buying or selling moves.

However, as the price has seemingly continued to rise following this latest spike, it may appear that the Litecoin whales could be supportive of the current uptrend.

The chart also includes the data for the transaction volume, which is a measure of the daily total...

Is She Wrong for Letting Her Older Brother and His Kids Be Homeless? People Responded. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Hey, you cant help everyone, right?

And the kinds of situations where you cant or wont help out family members can be particularly touchy

So is this woman an a**hole for what she DIDNT do to help out her older siblings?

Check out her story below and see what you think.

AITA for never helping my older siblings out and letting my brother and his kids be homeless?

My family is on a big divide about this so I was hoping I could get an unbiased perspective. I am the youngest of four siblings, by far. I am 22F and my husband is 26M.

My siblings are 30F, 32M, 33M. Between the three of them they have a combined 14 children. They all have multiple children. None of them went to college, and they all work lower paying entry level jobs. I graduated last year (I started college in high school) and I work as a nurse.

My husband works on planes but I dont want to say what he does specifically. Our household income is about 200k, and average where we live is about 80k I think. This is all relevant.

My parents like to host big family functions for every holiday and they bring the whole family together. Ever since I was a teenage my siblings have always asked me for favors, mostly to babysit. I did it for a while when I was around 16, but quickly realized they didnt appreciate anything and there was nothing in it for me so I stopped.

For the past 6 years Ive had the dont ask me for anything stance, since my siblings are the type to ask for favors but never offer to help you need it. They always borrow money from our parents but never pay it back.

My oldest brother is getting evicted, and asked if him and his girlfriend and their four kids could stay with me and my husband. My husba...

Antarctica is an open mystery. Each time I received an un-expectable number of emails. Everybody knows there is something in Antarctica. We just dont agree with what it is.  As this research is long by itself, we are not going into the details of the old story of Admiral Byrd and the world beneath the ice that he found in Antarctica. You can read about it on the internet. He had a mission, he faced a dark secret and he had been ordered to keep silence. Great researchers have different articles about Nazis and their displacement to Antarctica. Most researches are credible but as usual, we do our own research and connect the dots to explain what the purpose is, who is behind and who is the target.   Not that I agree with the alien subject that Stephen Quayle argues in his books (I believe there are different species or creatures exist but they are human-made synthetic (NASA) creatures.) I just add a piece of Empire Beneath The Ices description.

Breaking Barriers: How Bitcoin Can Transform The Real Estate Industry "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Jenna Hall, a content marketing specialist with residential real estate brokerage Redfin.

You may have heard about how you can use bitcoin to buy a house, rent an apartment or save your wealth in an inflation-resistant way to make a down payment. But, beyond these examples, how else can Bitcoin transform the way real estate transactions work as a whole?

From cutting out middlemen to creating new collateral opportunities, Bitcoin can transform the traditional real estate industry in ways we never imagined. For instance, imagine buying a house without the need for banks or intermediaries, and completing the transaction within minutes instead of weeks. It may sound like a futuristic concept, but its slowly becoming a reality.

This article explores the exciting intersection of Bitcoin and real estate, and delves into the potential implications for the future of the real estate market. Whether youre a homeowner, investor or simply curious about the latest advancements, read on to discover how Bitcoin is reshaping the landscape of real estate transactions.

More Secure Transactions

Real estate fraud continues to pose a threat to both buyers and sellers, with the FBI reporting over 11,700 victims in 2022 alone. However, Bitcoin has the potential to play a significant role in addressing traditional real estate fraud.

Bitcoin transactions are secured by cryptography, and once completed, are highly resistant to fraud. The cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin provide robust security measures against double spends, ensuring that transaction records on the blockchain remain tamper proof and protected. This added layer of security significantly reduces the risk of fraudulent alterations to payment or property records. And because all parties involved in a Bitcoin transaction including a home buyer, seller, real estate agent and other relevant parties in a real estate transaction would have access to the blockchain, they can collectively validate the property ownership and transaction details.

With Bitcoin, property ownership could also be verified through the worlds most robust blockchain, which can serve as a comprehensive and auditable record of ownership transfers. This feature could help establish a clear chain of title, allowing buyers to ensure the legitimacy of the property's ownership history before making a purchase. By eliminating ambiguity and providing verified ownership records, Bitcoin can prevent title fraud a scam whereby criminals sell properties that they do not rightfully own.

No More Middlemen

Buying a home is complicated enough, and it can get even more complicated when you have to communicate with several parties to facilitate the transaction....

Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz Says This Will Kickstart The Bitcoin Bull Market "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market have been trending sideways for the last month with no indication of an upside at this point. However, not everyone is bearish on the market as Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz expects the market to turn bullish soon, and he gives reasons for why he believes this will happen.

Reasons Why Bitcoin Will Begin A Bull Rally

Novogratz was interviewed on CNBCs Squawk Box on Thursday, June 1, where he gave his opinions on the Bitcoin and crypto market and where he expects the market to go. Contrary to the current market trend, the CEO remains very bullish on the digital asset and expects a bull trend going off some developments in the market right now.

He pointed toward the rising adoption from Asia as countries such as Hong Kong begin opening up new ways for retail investors to participate in the market. Not only this but the largest social messaging platform in China, WeChat, began offering Bitcoin price data to users, allowing them to check the current price of BTC in yuan.

Both of these, Novogratz says, will be a catalyst for the bitcoin bull market. Cryptos lackadaisical right now. Theres a constant bid from retail. Were seeing it through all the platforms, the Galaxy Digital CEO told CNBC.

Bitcoin (BTC) price chart from TradingView.com

Expecting A Turn From The Federal Reserve

In his interview, Novogratz also points to the fact that he expects that the Federal Reserve will change direction later this year, which he believes would be good for Bitcoin. As the Fed maintains its hawkish stance to tackle inflation, risk assets such as stocks and BTC continue to suffer but this could quickly change if the Fed becomes dovish.

The CEO expects this to happen sometime in October 2023 and this, he says, will trigger a bull run for digital assets in the space. As the Fed drops interest rates, so will interest in Bitcoin rise, leading to a rapid surge in price. Given this, Novogratz expects investing in Bitcoin to be a better decision than buying a one-year T-bill.

As for institutions, he points to the fact that they have reduced their participation in the market but this does not mean theyre gone. Novogratz believes the institutions will return to the second when one of two things happens. You either need settled and sensible rules in place for crypto. Or you need the Republicans to win next years U.S. elections. He further added that Crypto has almost overnight become a crazily partisan issue, which is exactly what the industry didnt want or need.

LSD Tokens Rally As Ethereum Staking Ramps Up, Here Are The Leaders "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Ethereum Liquid staking derivatives (LSD) tokens are taking over the reins today as they have begun another rally. This rally was a result of an accelerated rate of ETH staking, which has led to a surge in the balances of these liquid staking protocols.

LSD Tokens Take Advantage Of The Surge

As the total amount of ETH staked on the Ethereum network rose, so did the value of LSD tokens rise. Over the last day, coins like Lido Finance (LDO) and Rocket Pool (RPL) have been on the rise. The latter also emerged as the number 3 top gainer with almost 10% gains in the last 24 hours.

Lidos market share in the liquid staking market has also risen as the protocol now accounts for 37.85% of all ETH staked in liquid derivatives protocols. Coinbase is the second-largest with 11.88% of the market share and Rocket Pool accounts for 7.72% of the market share.

Lido Finance (LDO) price chart from TradingView.com (Ethereum)

Other LSD tokens have also returned to green on the last day as well, with pSTAKE Finances PSTAKE rallying 3% and StakeWises SWISE rising almost 4% in the same time period.

Ethereum Staking Not Slowing Down

In the last two days, the total amount of ETH staked on the Ethereum network has risen drastically. As stakers have settled back in from the withdrawal update that was made about a month ago, they have moved back into staking more ETH.

Ethereum staking

The total ETH in the deposit contract had risen by 95,008 ETH, meaning that over $180 million worth of ETH was added to the contract in the space of 48 hours. This shows that June is starting off as a bullish month for Ethereum at least, which could signal a recovery to come for the market.

The Map of Medicine: A Comprehensive Animation Shows How the Fields of Modern Medicine Fit Together "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The Hippocratic Oath is popularly imagined as beginning with, or at least involving, the command First, do no harm. In fact, nothing like it appears among the original Greek words attributed to Hippocrates; the Latin phrase primum non nocere seems to have been added in the seventh century. But the principle makes a highly suitable starting point for Dominic Wallimans video tour above of his new Comprehensive Map of Medicine. A physicist and science writer, Walliman has previously been featured many times here on Open Culture for his Youtube channel Domain of Science and his maps of other fields, from physics, chemistry, and biology to mathematics, engineering, and computer science.

This new map marks a return after what, to Wallimans fans, felt like a long hiatus indeed. The prolonged absence speaks to the ambition of the project, whose subject demands the integration of a large number of fields and sub-fields both theoretical and practical.

She Mouthed Off to a Teacher After She Got Her Period in Class. Did She Go Too Far? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

AITA for telling my teacher would you rather I bled on your white chair? in front of the class?

I 14f got my period in class. We werent doing anything important so I asked to leave for the restroom. For context this teacher is known for being very irritable.

He refused so I told him I had a genuine need to go but he mocked me, saying oh, so you HAVE to go in front of the class. I asked again calmly and he again said no. At this point the room was silent so I got stressed under the pressure (i was being laughed at) and i snapped well would you rather i bled all over your white chair?

He was visibly angry but let me go. When I got back to class he seemed annoyed still so Im not sure if i overreacted.

AITA?

Check out what folks had to say on Reddit.

 • For Mashable, Anna Iovane writes about the importance of memes in our love lives:

Why is sharing a sense of humor so important? When we laugh, our brains release a happy cocktail of hormones that increase our levels of trust, lower our levels of stress, and make us feel more relaxed, explained Hinges director of relationship science, Logan Ury. The dopamine hit from laughing reinforces our behavior and makes us want to go back for more.

Our digital sense of humor has become an important part of our identity, Ury continued. If a potential date has a ho-hum reaction to your memes, remember that 36 percent of daters usually feel more interested after receiving a meme from someone even if they dont think its funny.

What Mysteries Youll Find in the Challenger Deep "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In the early 1960s the first deep water exploration vessel the Trieste was lowered into the deepest trench on the ocean floors of the world, the Challenger Deep. This is the deepest point of the Marianas Trench near the island group of the same name. In the Atlantic Ocean we also have a number of deep canyons on the sea floor as well but not as deep as the Marians Trench. At more than 37,000 feet this kind of pressure would cause any submersible vessel, submarine, or bathysphere to implode, but the Trieste. With a duo hull system and an inner ballast of gasoline as it will compress to conform with the tremendous forces the Trieste would be enduring. Remember at just 1000 feet depth lead pipe will crush!

A surprise

The two manned crew patiently waited the more than hour descent into the deepest and what was thought the most inhospitable place on earth where cold, extreme pressure, and darkness would seem to discourage life. However, they were wrong. Once the flood lights were shined upon the bottom of this abysmal environment they found shrimp, crustaceans, and bizarre fish that used bio-luminescence to not only see but to attract prey. The findings in the Challenger Deep completely surprised the bio-oceanic scientists.

The heroic fighting ship

Fast forward to the present with the newer versions of the deep water explorer vessels with even better visibility. What would you expect to find down there now? It was amazing and shocking all art the same time. A recent voyage to the bottom of the trench made some bizarre discoveries. They came upon the USS Johnston, an escort class destroyer tasked with the protection of a number of troop transports and Escort carriers nicknamed Jeeps. These small and poorly armored aircraft carriers were not designed for entering battle but for the storage and repair of aircraft to be transported back to battle class aircraft carriers poised for combat. The USS Johnston fought valiantly against overwhelming odds to keep several Japanese Battleships and heavy cruisers from destroying their small fleet and defeating...

Intuitive Astrology: Venus Retrograde July-September 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Venus dives into the underworld on July 22/23, 2023, traveling retrograde until September 3/4, 2023. Venus will spend the entire length of her retrograde journey in the sign of Leo, traveling from 28 degrees back to 12 degrees.

In fact, Venus will station direct at exactly 12 degrees and 12 seconds of Leo (1212), which is a master number that indicates a shift to a higher state of consciousness. It seems that whatever transpires under this retrograde, we are going to find ourselves moving up in our awareness, or perhaps looking at things from a completely new perspective. One thing is for sure- we will be changed by this retrograde.

Venus rules over themes relating to our relationships, values, money, beauty, and love, so we can expect all these areas to be highlighted during this time.

Venus Retrograde typically gets us thinking about our past actions and how they are influencing our decisions when it comes to love, relationships, and money.

Venus Retrograde is typically not considered a good time to start a new relationship, change your appearance or redesign your space. The idea is that your views are shifting and transforming, and whatever changes or relationships you enter will be part of the old you and not the new you that is waiting to be birthed.

Venus only retrogrades every 18 months, making this energy rare. But another special thing Venus does during retrograde is shift from an evening star to a morning star. At the start of this retrograde, Venus will be visible in the night sky, but by August 13, Venus will disappear from the evening sky and eventually rise up to be a morning star.

Part of this rebirth of Venus from evening to morning star is mirrored in our own being during the Venus Retrograde journey, and signifies the rebirth of our heart energy from a more internal/unconscious state (evening star Venus) to a more external/realized state (morning star Venus).

Lets now dive deeper into the 2023 Venus Retrograde in Leo and what you can expect-

Venus in Leo June-October 2023

Venus moves into Leo on June 5, where it will remain until October 10. This is a long time for Venus to spend in one sign of the zodiac, so this placement will be a focus for all of us.

As mentioned earlier, Venus is the planet of love, beauty, relationships, and what we value. It is also connected to our relationship with money.

Leo is a very passionate sign that is driven by the heart. Its energy can be bold and dramatic. It loves to shine and is a very forward energetic expression.

With Venus in Leo, we may feel more energetic, passionate, and creative. We may feel a desire to put our creations out into the world and to follow our hearts. This energy can be very favorable for creative projects, boosting our self-worth, and for finding the confidence to pu...

WOKE = Unconstitutional "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

By Martin Armstrong, ANY company engaging in WOKE should be brought to court for what they are doing is patently UNCONSTITUTIONAL and lawyers should start to wake up and bring class action lawsuits against Target, Budweiser, and  North Face as well as every other company engaged in this activity of promoting transgenderism has rendered college degrees irrelevant. If you check a box, no qualification or experience is required. This claim that WOKE is somehow establishing EQUALITY is total nonsense. Gays are now being discriminated against as part of this propaganda movement behind Transgender. When companies make targeted racial composition goals for their employees, they have to engage in discrimination to achieve those goals. That is discrimination to not hire a white person who is more qualified because the White House wants a black girl not even a black man as its spokesperson. Hiring people based on race and gender is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. It is outright discrimination and whatever job is open should go to the most qualified not to check some box of this discriminatory and unethical Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Here you have a pretend organization claiming it stands for human rights advocating abortion and ignoring any human rights of the unborn. They are a front for propaganda that is to actually divide the nation and deliberately target religious issues such as abortion and seek to give low grades to Christian beliefs. The worst kept secret in corporate HR departments across the country is this thinking that they MUST deny employment based on qualification and instead check boxes to satisfy this unethical organization masquerading as human rights. If we are really talking about EQUALITY, then the most qualified person should get the job. In our company, we have every race, creed, and nationality from Asia to Europe. We hire based on qualification not race or religion. Human Rights Campaign (HRC) should be brought to court for they are denying qualified people employment. What the Art World Doesnt Want You to Know About Yayoi Kusama "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Ive had a question about Yayoi Kusamas work for a long time and the new survey publication Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now (2023) has finally resolved it.

In short, the answer is money, but Ill back up a bit.

The volume features a roundtable discussion between notable curators and museum directors, and quickly, the topic of Kusamas marketability comes up. The argument presented is that the mass production of Kusama merchandise Kusama coffee cups, Kusama figurine keychains, and so on has accelerated the democratization of art.

We couldnt have invented a better artist to be a kind of banner artist for the transnational and the transhistorical, and for improving gender balance, Tate Modern Director Frances Morris says in the featured roundtable.

That is, the commercialization of Kusama herself is not presented as a necessary evil, but instead as an opportunity for a positive step toward equality. This is an interesting framing that I generally agree with.

Gemini Exchange To Acquire License To Operate In United Arab Emirates "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Gemini, a global cryptocurrency exchange, has announced its plans to acquire a cryptocurrency license in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a move to expand its services. Describing the UAE's position as a forward-thinking financial hub, Gemini aims to tap into the country's growing market. The company is committed to becoming a global entity, according to the announcement, by meeting local regulatory requirements and understanding the needs of UAE crypto investors.

Gemini's decision to apply for a license comes as a result of its findings from the 2022 Global State of Crypto Report. The report revealed a significant increase in cryptocurrency adoption among individuals in the UAE, with many using it for in-person purchases. Additionally, the study indicated a strong intention among non-owners to enter the cryptocurrency space.

Speaking about the application, Gemini leadership expressed their vision of providing a safe, secure, and user-friendly platform for customers in the UAE and beyond. The company stated that it is eager to serve the rapidly growing and vibrant crypto community in the region.

In January, Gemini co-founder Cameron Winklevoss wrote a letter to its parent company Digital Currency Group (DCG) alleging that DCG defrauded Gemini customers in relation to Gemini Earn. Prior to that, Gemini was sued by the CFTC for misleading the regulator in conversations concerning the launch of bitcoin futures contracts.

Gemini's move into the UAE highlights the country's emerging status as a bitcoin hub. In addition, it highlights the continued flight of major exchanges out of the U.S. as a result of tightening regulations. At the beginning of May, Coinbase introduced its new international exchange arm called Coinbase International, with the company stating that countries around the world are increasingly moving forward with responsible crypto-forward regulatory frameworks to strategically position themselves as crypto hubs.

The home of Ellsworth Kellys iconic modernist chapel titled Austin, the Blanton Museum of Art has expanded its outdoor art environment with a sculptural installation by Snhetta. The architecture and design firm (previously) began the project in 2018 with the ambitious task of reinterpreting an area of 200,000 square feet, containing two large buildings that are part of The University of Texas at Austins campus. Its downtown location provided an incredible opportunity to revitalize the space for public gatherings, civic events, and art installations, linking the university campus and city center and creating an architectural dialogue between interior and exterior.

A copse of Snhettas Petals rise from the Blantons Moody Patio, which forms a gateway connecting Congress Avenue to the pedestrian spine of the university campus. The sculptures create an elegant arch, providing shade and dappling the pavement and surrounding buildings with specks of light that filter through perforated patterns. On not-so-sunny days, rain that falls into the petals is funneled into an underground collection system. The firm sought a design that unifies the museum campus with the citys prominent avenue through a choreography of planting, geometry, and art.

This Is What AI Considers a Beautiful Woman in 100 Different Countries

AI Images Beautiful Women Around the World

As AI imagery continues to flood the internet, more and more people are wondering how this technology will affect humans' perceptions of themselves. While we've already seen what AI creates when asked to visualize what the perfect body looks like, StyleSeat was curious to learn more about AI's perception of beauty. To do so, they asked Midjourney to produce pictures of beautiful women from 100 countries around the world. The results are fascinating.

The full-body renderings show a range of well-put-together women with slight variations based on their country of origin. Interestingly, Midjourney seems to prefer a natural look, and most women appear with minimal makeup and jewelry. Aside from some instances of traditional dress, like the sari the woman from India wears, everyone is wearing pants.

While there isn't a lot of variation in body typeall of the women are fairly thinAI does account for some ethnic differences according to the country. The results are so intriguing because, as StyleSeat writes, AIs understanding,' derived from human-input data, reflects human perspectives.

Of course, in this instance, AI isn't being asked to replicate the diverse patterns of beauty found within a single country. Instead, one can assume that the images Midjourney produced represent a singular stereotypical standard of beauty found in a particular country.

As we encounter more AI imagery, studies like thiswhich are transparent in their use of the technologyare critical. They serve an important role in helping us understand why certain interpretations of beauty are becoming ever more prevalent in society.

StyleSeat asked Midjourney to produce an image of beautiful women in 100 different countries.

Game 6 "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Rachel B. Glaser, Buzzer Beater, 2023.

On Monday night, the Miami Heat beat the Boston Celtics in definitive fashion in Game 7, winning the Eastern Conference Finals on Bostons home court. It was a Heat fans fantasy. Caleb Martin played like a sleek god with magic powers. The three-pointers looked easy. With few shooting fouls, the game flowed swiftly and without controversy. For a Celtics fan, it must have been a slow nightmare, beginning with Jayson Tatums ankle roll in the first possession and ending with the starters on the bench, resigned to a nineteen-point loss. It was the opposite of the chaotic Game 6 of the series, which was one of the most thrilling and heartbreaking games Ive ever seen.

Game 6 began with the Celtics continuing their momentum from their win in Game 5. They looked skilled and confident. Jaylen Brown hit his first five shots. The Celtics led for most of the game. Miamis Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo had a rough shooting night, but Caleb Martin, Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, Kyle Lowry, and Duncan Robinson kept them afloat. Watching with my husband and our friend, I spoke with conviction about an ambiguous injury I was sure Jimmy was dealing with. I wondered if someone had kidnapped his daughter and ordered him to throw the game. Get the ball to Caleb Martin! I yelled, though a few weeks ago that name meant nothing to me.

Jimmy came alive in the fourth quarter. The Heat were trailing by two with sixteen seconds to go. In what seemed like the last possession, he was fouled while shooting a three. The clock stopped at 2.1 seconds, but after the Celtics challenge and the replay, the refs put more time on the clock. Jimmy made all three free throws, putting Miami up by one. The Celtics had the ball with three seconds to go. Derrick White inbounded it to Marcus Smart, who missed a three, and with a tenth of a second left and Max Strus trailing him, White looped around to the basket, grabbed the r...

What is a bot? This is a false profile engaging someone on a social platform for political purpose. It can be either leftist or conservative, but most times is going to be a tool of political opposition in favor of the Democrats. As Rush Limbaugh, the famous conservative radio and TV show host in todays technically advanced cyber space a single political opposition company with 2 employees can generate a million negative e-mail comments with ease. Limbaugh was the targeted enemy of the Democrats and constantly experiencing their wrath.

The Democrat ground game

Today with even more technical sophistication you can scale that million e-mail attacks up to 30 million or more by a relatively few operatives. You see it social platforms like Quora, Twitter, Tik Tok, FaceBook, YouTube, and even dating sites with chat rooms. In 2008 during the media awarded election of President Obama Democrat trolls were on high alert trying to either convince people hiring Obama was the cool thing to do or shaming anyone who wouldnt vote for Obama. This while the so-called media journalists on TV shouted down anyone they interviewed who dared to ask who this unknown Senator from Chicago was with few if any accomplishments. Well, he was the first president of the United States elected for the color of his skin, not due to his experience, nor whether he even qualified as a true citizen of the US as proof of his birth was highly questionable if not unacceptable. Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his cold case posse of retired detectives who volunteered their time would later prove that Obama was a truly an unconstitutional Manchurian Candidate.

Israeli Hospital Develops Blood Cancer Treatment With a 90% Success Rate

Multiple Myeloma Treatment

Photo: suravid/Depositphotos

Using genetic-engineering technology, Israel's Hadassah University Medical Center has developed a successful way to treat a deadly blood cancer. They've recently announced a 90% success rate in treating patients with multiple myeloma cancer. This is an incredible achievement, given that multiple myeloma is considered an incurable cancer.

The experimental treatment was developed over the past few years at the Jerusalem hospital's bone-marrow transplant and immunotherapy department. It involves using Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell Therapy (CAR-T). This type of therapy harnesses the power of the patient's immune system and uses it to target and destroy cancer cells.

According to the hospital, of the 74 patients that have received the treatment, 90% have gone into remission. This is incredible news for those suffering from this aggressive blood cancer and gives them a glimmer of hope for a positive outcome.

In light of the impressive results of CAR-T treatments, it seems that they have many more years to liveand with an excellent quality of life, said Professor Polina Stepensky, head of the department.

Stepensky says that they currently have a waiting list of over 200 patients from around the world who are seeking out this experimental treatment. Due to the complexity of the treatment, only one patient a week is allowed access to the therapy.

While CAR-T therapy has been around for decades, until now, it has been quite cost-prohibitive. Extensive research at Hadassah has allowed the hospital to bring the costs down dramatically, which, in turn, made the treatment more accessible.

The researchers are hopeful that the treatment will soon become available in other parts of the world. The American firm IMMX Bio has acquired the patent license, and a clinical trial will be starting in the United States shortly. Stepensky says that the goal is to have the drug FDA-approved...

CleanSpark Announces Purchase Of 12,500 Antminer S19 XP Bitcoin Miners "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

CleanSpark Inc. has announced the purchase of 12,500 Antminer S19 XP bitcoin mining machines for a total price of $40.5 million. The machines were acquired at a lower price than the current market average, costing $23 per terahash, according to a press release shared with Bitcoin Magazine. The purchase agreement states that 6,000 of the machines will be shipped in June, with the remaining 6,500 set for shipping in August.

Zach Bradford, CEO of CleanSpark, expressed his confidence in the purchase, stating, "This purchase ensures that we are prepared to meet and potentially exceed our year-end target of 16 EH/s and also positions us to be one of the most power-efficient miners on an energy-per-hashrate basis." He further highlighted the optionality provided by the additional machines, allowing the company to replace less efficient units if the economics support it.

CleanSpark reported that it has been taking advantage of discounted machine purchases during the crypto bear market. In February, the company acquired 20,000 Antminer S19j Pro+ units, followed by the purchase of 45,000 Antminer S19 XP units in April.

Gary A. Vecchiarelli, CFO at CleanSpark, emphasized the importance of these purchases in preparation for the upcoming bitcoin halving, stating, "the efficiency of these machines also results in less power consumed per bitcoin mined compared to older generation miners, which should translate to higher margins."

CleanSpark's recent purchases of bitcoin mining machines demonstrate the company's commitment to expanding their mining capacity and staying competitive in the market. With fees from Ordinals inscriptions boosting the revenue for miners, it is expected that large players like CleanSpark will continue to bolster their miner inventory.

A Coiled Spring "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Before my father died in 2001, I knew that I loved him but only dimly. I didnt really feel it, and to the extent that I did, I experienced it as painful. When he was dying I almost didnt go to him. When I was trying to decide whether to go, someone asked me, Do you want to see him? And I said, Thats hard to say. Because when youre with him you dont see him. He doesnt show himself. He shows a grid of traits but not himself. Still, I decided to go. The death was prolonged. It was painful. Because of the pain, the grid that I referred tomy fathers style of presentationcould not be maintained. A few days after I arrived, my father lost the ability to speak more than a few words at a time. But his eyes and his face spoke profoundly. I saw him and I felt him, and I loved him more than I thought possible. I was stunned by both the strength of my feeling and my previous obliviousness to it, and by my realization that, if I had not come to see him, I would never have known how real my feeling was or how beautiful it was to say it and to hear it said.

I recall that, at the time, I had a mental picture of this experience that looked like one of those practical joke containers disguised as a can of nuts or something; you open the lid and a coiled cloth-covered spring leaps out at youit felt that startling. This image was followed by another mental picture, an image of human beings as containers that hold layers and layers of thought, feeling, and experience so densely packed (the body remembers everything) that the (human) container can be aware of only a few layers at a time, usually the first few at the top, until and unless an unexpectedly powerful event makes something deep suddenly pop out, throwing some elements of the self into high relief and disordering others, hinting at a different, truer order that was there all along....

Shredded Pork "IndyWatch Feed Food"

Pork is traditionally marinated in vinegar in the Philippines and in Argentina; in Europe it is fermented or cured; even America has her tradition of pickled pigs feet and vinegar-marinated barbecue.

The live blood analyses of Beverly Rubik indicates that plain pork meat causes undesirable changes in the blood, accompanied by fatigue, but pork that has been marinated, fermented or cured does not. Learn more in our article on pork that features several recipes!

INGREDIENTS

Makes about 4 cups

 • About 3 pounds pork butt or fatty pork meat, including organ meats such as heart
 • 1 cup vinegar
 • cup lard
 • 4 tablespoons chile powder
 • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
 • 4 cloves garlic, minced
 • cup tomato paste
 • 2 cups beef or chicken broth

INSTRUCTIONS

 1. Cut pork into 1-inch cubes and marinate in vinegar about 24 hours, refrigerated.
 2. Dry cubes well and brown in hot lard in a large flame-proof casserole.
 3. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
 4. Reduce to a simmer and place in a 350-degree oven, with the lid slightly askew so moisture can evaporate.
 5. Bake several hours until the liquid is reduced to about half.
 6. Shred the pork with a fork or knife.
 7. This is a great filling for tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tostados and other Mexican dishes.

One of the Worlds Most Endangered Sea Turtle Species Just Laid 80 Eggs "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

One of the Worlds Most Endangered Sea Turtle Species Just Laid 80 Eggs

Texas Turtle Research Center Announces First Kemps Ridley Sea Turtle Nest of Season

Anytime an endangered species reproduces, that species is one step closer to safety. These baby steps are to be celebrated. On May 5, 2023, the Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research at Texas A&M announced a Kemp's ridley sea turtle laid a clutch of 80 eggs on Texas' Surfside Beach, the first nest in that area of the 2023 season. Running from April to July, the nesting season is an important time for this critically endangered species, and there are ways the public can help protect these critters.

The Kemp's Ridley Turtle is an endangered species which was abundant until the late 1940s when populations plummeted. The species nests along the Gulf of Mexico. The females lay clutches of eggs in sand before returning to the water. Remarkably, they usually try to return to the area in which they themselves hatched. Coming up on land can be dangerous, and once the mother leaves, the eggs must be protected from damaging human activity. Conservationists have been working for decades to help the species climb back from the brink of extinction by encouraging and protecting nests.

Acting on an alert from a member of the public, trained responders arrived at the site of the recent nest in time to photograph the mother returning to the ocean. They then removed her 80 eggs for safekeeping and hatching. Mother turtles do not return to their...

A Student Maliciously Complied With Their Teacher and Got Some Sweet, Petty Revenge "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Are you ready for another glorious story of malicious compliance from the pages of Reddit?

You bet you are, or else you wouldnt be here right now!

And this one is a real doozy, my friendsbuckle up and check out how this student got some solid revenge on a teacher.

Start now!

Refuse to teach? Ill make you rewrite your whole class.

So, back in college, i was getting a degree in journalism, and i only had a few classes left. One of the classes was mass comm, which was taught primarily by a professor i cordially detested. Lets call her Jen.

Jen was a longtime media professional who believed that the best was to teach was to tell us anecdotes about her experiences in radio. The problem being that she did this at the expense of teaching the material, and then tested us on the material.

So shed spend three hours a week bragging, then expect us to study the material on our own asking her about the material led to tangents about her professional life, and if you could catch her in office hours, shed do the same.

So, with no choice but to take yet another class with her, i signed up for mass comm and settled in

Now, there immediately was a problem. There was no book for this course. There was no handouts. It was just Jen and power point. The format of the class was Jen would click next slide, tell us a story about her life, and if we were really lucky shed read the slide and the story would correlate to what was on the slide.

There was also only two graded assignments: the midterm essay, and the final exam.

Now, i can write 1,000 words about anything, so the midterm didnt concern me. But the final was going to be a test over the slides she was so glibly glossing over.

About a week before the...
