Shiba Inu Burn Frenzy: More Than 15 Billion Tokens Scorched In May "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Shiba Inu community burnt over 15 billion SHIB tokens in May 2023, showing their commitment to reducing the circulating supply. The intention of such burns is to reduce the total supply of the coin from market

Blaze Token is the top SHIB burner of the month, with MARSWAP (MSWAP) and Coinbase 10 among the top burners. According to Shibburn, 15.36 billion SHIB, were burnt in 191 transactions in May 2023.

Top SHIB Burners

Blaze Token emerged as the top SHIB burner for May 2023, with its largest burn executed on May 29, seeing over 3.60 billion SHIB tokens sent to the dead wallet. Also, Blaze token burnt 2 billion SHIB on May 2, 1.69 billion SHIB on May 8, and 1.23 billion SHIB on May 22.

A new crypto project, MARSWAP, ranks second on the top SHIB burners list. The crypto project launched on ShibSwap DEX burnt 1.35 billion SHIB in 100 transactions on May 24.

Additionally, a Coinbase-affiliated wallet tagged Coinbase 10 contributed 200.58 million SHIB burns to the total burns on the network. However, the increased burn rate did not affect Shiba Inus price as it still displays volatility.

SHIB Price Prediction

SHIB is trading in a downtrend today, forming a fourth consecutive red candle on the daily chart as it forms lower lows. It is trading below its 50-day and 200-day Simple Moving Averages (SMA), a short and long-term bearish sentiment.

Also, its Relative Strength Index (RSI) is 35.64, close to the oversold region of 30. This also confirms the bearish sentiment as the indicator moves downwards.

SHIBs Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) is above its signal line but shows a negative value, and the histogram bars are fading, hinting at a bearish trend. These indicators imply that SHIB will likely continue in the bearish phase till the bulls rally again. SHIB is approaching the 38.2% Fibonacci level ($0.00000839), its closest support level.

Traveler Wears Five Pounds of Clothing To Avoid the Extra Luggage Fees at the Airport

Gel Rodriguez Wearing 5 Pounds of Clothing

Photo: Gel Rodriguez

Have you ever been at the airport and discovered that your luggage is over the weight limit? If so, you know that feeling of being totally flustered and faced with the prospect of an extra weight fee. Paying it might feel like your only choice, but not if you're Gel Rodriguez. She found a creative way around the weight limit, saved herself overage fees, and became a viral sensation in the process.

In 2019, Rodriguez was taking a flight from the Phillippines and was informed that her carry-on luggage was 4.4 pounds over the weight limit. Instead of paying the feewhich is never cheapshe opted to lessen her suitcase weight by wearing more than five pounds of clothing. This meant layering shirts on her shirts and pants over her pants. The multiple garments were so bulky that they wouldnt cover one another. Her last pair of pants, for instance, only meets her knees before there is just too much fabric to go up any further.

To commemorate this travel hack, Rodriguez posed for a picture at the airport. This photo went viral, with people lauding her for the idea. What a brilliant mind, one person commented. Thank you for the idea, another said.

But would she do it again? Probably not. It was really hot, Rodriguez said. I don't recommend other people do it. That's likely good advice. In 2015, James McElvar from the Scottish boy band Rewind tried the same thing (only with more clothing) and...

72-Year-Old Graduates College and His 99-Year-Old Mom Proudly Attends the Ceremony "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

72-Year-Old Graduates College and His 99-Year-Old Mom Proudly Attends the Ceremony

Learning is a lifelong journey. While some people go to college early, others have a different scholastic route. For Sam Kaplan, he spent 50 years out of the classroom before eventually finding his way back at the age of 68. After enrolling in Georgia Gwinnett College, he worked toward achieving a degree in Cinema and Media Arts. The now-72-year-old proudly crossed the stage on May 11 and was cheered on by his 99-year-old mother.

Kaplan graduated high school in 1969 and lived an entire life before going back to college. Not only did he become a father of five, but he also ran a cleaning service, and a telemarketing company, and even worked part-time as a taxi driver. He was inspired to return to school after hearing about a degree that involved script writing at Georgia Gwinnett College.

Although working alongside younger students was a big adjustment, he was able to find common ground with his peers by talking about personal goals and aspirations. When you ask a student about what they want and plan on doing and find out what they want to do with their lives; I think thats uncommon with a lot of kidsthey dont get that with people, Kaplan says. I think I have a good relationship with them. I got hugs from a lot of them on the last day of classes.

The graduation ceremony was made extra special by having his family present. Even Kaplan's 99-year-old mother came to see him receive his diploma. This is my first undergraduate degree, Kaplan explains. Im the first of my seven siblings to earn a degree. We definitely wish him all the best in his new endeavors!

Sam Kaplan enrolled in college when he was 68. Now 72 years old, he finally received his degree and his 99-year-old mother proudly attended the graduation ceremony.

XRP Hype Spikes As Price Surges 12%, Is This A Top Signal? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Data shows the hype around XRP has spiked as the asset has registered a 12% gain during the past week, something that may lead to a top.

XRP Social Dominance Has Surged To High Values Recently

According to data from the on-chain analytics firm Santiment, crowd optimism around XRP has shot up recently. A relevant indicator here is the social volume, which measures the total number of unique social media text documents that are currently making mentions of a given coin or topic.

These social media text documents refer to text-based posts or threads sourced from various popular social media platforms like Reddit, Twitter, and Telegram.

Since this metric only measures the unique number of such documents, it means that even if a post mentions the cryptocurrency in question several times, its share of the social volume still only remains one unit.

Because of this restriction, the indicator can provide a reliable picture of whether the users in the wider social media platforms are discussing the asset or not right now.

Another indicator, called social dominance, is also of interest here; this metric compares the social media of the cryptocurrency (which would be XRP in the current case), to that of the combined social volume of the top 100 assets by market cap in the sector.

Now, here is a chart that shows the trend in the XRP social volume, as well as the social dominance, over the last year:

XRP Social Volume

As displayed in the above graph, both the XRP social volume and the social dominance have spiked to high levels recently. At the peak of this surge, the latter indicator had hit a value of 16.2%, which means that 16.2% of all discussions on social media websites related to the top 100 assets were about the token.

These elevations in the social metrics of the cryptocurrency have come as the price has outperformed all the largest coins in the market after registering a gain of more than 12% during the past week.

Generally, whenever the social volume rises along with a price rise, it means that the investors are becoming more optimistic about the near-term outcome of the asset.

While such positive attention can sometimes help fuel the price rise further, its also true that too much of it can actually have the opposite effect on the cryptocu...

I love spending hours in the art shop, feeling the surfaces of different paper and making connections with all information that I carry with me about the project, says Lina Kusaite, whose meticulous botanical illustrations range from book pages to expansive wall murals. Mostly focusing on commissions for clients like publishers and hospitality venues, the Brussels-based artist has a knack for collaborating with other designers to determine the scale and scope of an installation or a series of drawings. I always choose projects that speak to me (and) in one or other way resonate with my point of view, philosophy, and it challenges me, she says.

Kusaite begins by hand-drawing on paper, focusing on the lines and textures of different materials like graphite and ink. I choose paper and pencil or watercolorsor bothbased on the research and information gathered in the beginning of the process, she says. I start testing different combination, colors, lines. After having enough tests on paper, I scan everything and transfer it into Photoshop, where I start playing with digital tools. Sometimes, one initial drawing can produce hundreds of versions resulting from experiments with color and style, which often spawn new ideas and techniques for future projects.

Ethereum Fees Plunge 69% From Yearly High, What This Means For ETH "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

In a significant development for the Ethereum network, average transaction fees have witnessed a sharp decline. This plunge comes shortly after the Ethereum network recorded a significant spike in fees in May driving it to a yearly high.

According to the latest data from the popular market intelligence platform Santiment, Ethereum fees have now settled somewhere below $5 from the yearly high of above $10 per ETH transaction in early May. It is worth noting that this latest update marks a positive shift for Ethereum users and the broader ecosystem.

The Return To Normalcy: Ethereum Fees Reclaim Stability

On the last day of May, Santiment data revealed Ethereum fees have dropped by roughly 69% from their yearly high of $14 per ETH transaction in early May. The data shows ETH fees have now settled at $4.28 per transaction in the past hours.

Notably, the surge in Ethereum fees during the meme coin frenzy, fueled by the popularity of the frog-themed meme coin Pepe (PEPE) token, had initially led to inflated transaction costs for Ethereum users.

However, recent data highlights a welcome reversal of this trend, with fees plummeting back to more reasonable levels. The 69% decrease in transaction fees over a mere 25-day period signals a positive outlook for Ethereums network adoption and user engagement.

According to the Santiment team, the decline in fees is a promising sign that Ethereum is becoming more affordable for users, consequently encouraging greater utility and activity within the network.

Lower transaction costs not only attract new users but also incentivize existing participants to make full use of Ethereums capabilities.

As fees normalize, it paves the way for enhanced accessibility, making Ethereum a more considerable platform for various applications, including decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and more.

Self-Custody Trend And ETH Supply

Another noteworthy trend accompanying the fee reduction is the declining percentage of Ethereum supply held on crypto exchanges. Recent data also from Santiment reveals that the Ethereum supply on exchanges has reached an all-time low of 10.31%.

This decrease is a result of the growing preference for self-custody solutions among Ethereum holders due to security concerns related to centralized exchanges. Additionally, regulatory uncertainties surrounding the cla...

Should A Bitcoin Wallet Have Rights? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Artem Afian, a lawyer and legal futurist at Hiveon, a crypto mining ecosystem that offers services for Bitcoin mining hardware.

I want to draw your attention to the fact that Bitcoin transactions ultimately occur between wallets. There are humans behind wallets, but this connection is not really whats important. The pseudonymity of Bitcoin is thanks to the fact that there is no direct connection between the wallet and the person who owns it. It is what distinguishes a Bitcoin wallet from any other financial instrument. No matter how much regulators try to change this, the core of the technology remains the same.

What does this mean? It means that, soon, wallets will be recognized as entities deserving of legal rights.

First, humanity began to recognize animal rights. Now, there is talk about the legal rights of a robot. Soon, the rights of a Bitcoin wallet will come to the fray.

When one talks about the rights of robots, they usually refer to some imitation of human will that is deserving of legal recognition. We understand that a robot does not have a soul in the same way that a human does, but at the same time, it performs rather complex actions, which gives rise to legal consequences. For many of us, a robot or a Bitcoin wallet is something inanimate and devoid of a soul and, perhaps, therefore undeserving of legal protections. But we recognize the rights of companies and corporations and, of course, it is difficult to imagine more soulless forms than those. It turns out that the subjects of law can be inanimate.

So, what is the difference between a Bitcoin wallet and a legal entity? A legal entity is simply a set of files in a specific registry. Lawyers even have a theory of the fiction of a legal entity. We will calmly confirm that the legal entity is an American corporation. We can quickly check this. But how to check that a legal entity was created, say, under the laws of the country of Swaziland? Even if I show you documents that prove it, they are unlikely to tell you anything. So, if I tell you that you are dealing with a foreign company, you most probably just have to believe it.

Nevertheless, this legal entity, displayed as it is only on paper, has some rights. So, the Bitcoin wallet that exists is even more tangible than many legally-protected entities. Therefore, one more conclusion: Since legal entities have rights, then a wallet may have rights. Just like legal entities, wallets perform transactions, and just like legal entities, wallets can change their owners. This f...

People Share the Cooking Hacks That They Swear By "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

We want you to pay close attention today, friends!

Because a bunch of AskReddit users were nice enough to share cooking hacks that they swear are gonna rock your world!

Are you ready to dive in?

Lets get it started!

There you go.

If your food is bland even though youve added salt then its missing acidity.

Lemon juice, lime juice, or vinegar are easy additions.

Yummy.

I use soy sauce in a lot of stews and soups to help bring out savory flavors.

My minestrone, for instance, usually has some soy sauce in it.

Now Im hungry.

My wife browns the butter before she adds it to chocolate chip cookie dough and theyre the best freakin cookies Ive ever eaten!

Dont burn yourself.

Leaving a potholder on the handle of a cleaned cast iron pan to let anyone who might put it away know it may be hot as it cools down.

Ditto for any skillet that comes out of the oven after roasting or braising. A towel immediately goes over the handle to remind myself not to instinctively go for the handle.

Uh uh.

If a recipe says to saut onions and garlic together at the same time, DONT.

Do the onions first, and then add the garlic when the onions are just about done.

Garlic can be over sauted and it takes on a bitter flavor.

Makes it easier.

Prep everything first.

Have all of your veggies cut and ingredients ready. You will be more relaxed.

Clean as you go. Wash your dishes while waiting for your food to finish cooking. Less dishes to deal with at the end of the night.

Good advice....

Can Shiba Inu Rebound As It Wraps Up May With A Discouraging 16% Decline? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Shiba Inu (SHIB) is facing a turbulent period as its price chart paints a rather bleak picture. With its latest monthly candle, Shiba Inu has recorded its most dismal performance since November, igniting a wave of speculation and raising important questions about the future of this meme coin.

As the cryptocurrency market closely watches this unprecedented downturn, the fate of Shiba Inu hangs in the balance, leaving investors and meme enthusiasts pondering what lies ahead for this intriguing coin.

SHIBs Value Plummets, Casting Doubt On Its Future

The value of SHIB has witnessed a substantial decline, exceeding 16% since the beginning of May, thereby enveloping its future in a bleak haze. Should the ongoing trend persist, May has the potential to emerge as the most disastrous month for SHIB since November 2022. During that period, SHIB experienced a staggering 25% drop following the collapse of crypto exchange FTX.

According to data from CoinGecko, the current price of SHIB is resting at $0.00000849. Although it faced a marginal 0.9% dip over the past 24 hours, it still managed to achieve a very minimal gain of 0.1% over the course of seven days.

Amidst the uncertainty surrounding SHIBs trajectory, two significant factors come into play. First, the weakness exhibited by altcoins during the spring season adds to the apprehension. Second, the price action bears an uncanny resemblance to a technical rebound from the fall experienced in 2022.

These factors combined amplify the likelihood of an ongoing downward spiral for SHIB, albeit the extent of the decline remains uncertain.

Fascism!: The US Army Publishes a Pamphlet in 1945 Explaining How to Spot Fascism at Home and Abroad "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Fascism is a word thats been used a great deal these last few years, says the article pictured above (scanned in full here at the Internet Archive). We come across it in our newspapers, we hear it in our newsreels, it comes up in our bull sessions. Other than the part about newsreels (todays equivalent being our social-media feeds, or perhaps the videos put before our eyes by the algorithm), these sentences could well have been published today. Some see the fascist takeover of modern-day democracies as practically imminent, while others argue that the concept itself has no meaning in the twenty-first century. But 78 years ago, when this issue of Army Talk came off the press, fascism was very much a going and fearsome concern.

Beginning in 1943, the War Department published a series of pamphlets for U.S. Army personnel in the European theater of World War II, writes historian Heather Cox Richardson. The mission of Army Talks, in the publications own words, was to help its readers become better-informed men and women and therefore better soldiers.

Benjamin Fulford Report: Why the US has to go through chapter 11 bankruptcy By Benjamin Fulford May 29, 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Sometimes, when I write a story, it gets convoluted and loses direction. No matter what I do, I only end up digging a deeper hole. When this happens, the only option is to delete the whole thing and start all over. This is a good metaphor for what passes off as government in the United States. The waste and corruption have gone on for so long that the privately owned UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CORPORATION has about $250 trillion in unfunded liabilities (according to the St, Louis Fed and others) above and beyond the $31.5 trillion in debt that is now in the headlines. Since US GDP is $23 trillion, it is like someone earning 23,000 dollars a year having 280,000 in debt. Such a person is bankrupt because they have to go deeper into debt just to make interest payments. Despite this, the Rockefeller family and their Joe Biden fake government are doing everything in their power to kick the can down the road yet again. This is exactly what the Chinese want because it will mean the US will sink deeper into debt and never again become their rival. To understand just how dysfunctional the US government is, let us look at the Pentagon as described by Colonel Douglas MacGregor: We have on active duty now 44 four stars for a force of less than 1.1 million. During world war 2 we had 12.2 million men and 7 four stars. The most professional people are at the lower levels, the least professional are at the top. This is part of the rot, the corruption the waste, The whole department is a catastro...

XRP $1 Threshold On The Horizon? Noted Trader Fuels Speculation "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

XRP is no stranger to volatility and the excitement it brings. However, when a prominent trader like DonAlt raises the possibility of the crypto reaching the elusive $1 mark, it piques the interest of investors and enthusiasts alike.

The last time XRP saw such heights was back in November 2021, and since then, the digital asset has experienced a rollercoaster ride.

Now, with DonAlts speculation, the question arises: could XRP be on the verge of a major breakthrough?

DonAlts Tweet Raises XRP Speculation

Earlier today, prominent cryptocurrency trader and influencer, DonAlt, ignited speculation among his followers by tweeting, Is $XRP finally going to $1?

This tweet has generated increased discussions and debates surrounding XRPs future price movement, attracting the attention of traders and enthusiasts alike.

In recent developments, XRP, the native coin of Ripple, has been displaying promising signs, as evidenced by remarkable spikes in address activity observed over two consecutive days.

This surge in address activity indicates a heightened level of interest and engagement with the cryptocurrency. Such an occurrence potentially signifies an upward trend for XRP, suggesting a possible decoupling from the broader altcoin market.

According to data from CoinGecko, the current price of XRP stands at $0.505016. However, the past 24 hours witnessed a minor setback for the cryptocurrency, as it experienced a slump of 2.1%.

Despite this temporary dip, XRP has demonstrated resilience and noteworthy performance over the last seven days...

People Got Real About Whether or Not They Fart in Front of Their Partners "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Ladies and gentsits time for some REAL TALK.

Because AskReddit users officially went on the record and admitted whether or not they FART in front of their partners.

Are yall ready for this?

Lets dive in!

Never on purpose.

Not purposely.

I might have an accident every now and then.

Like lifting something heavy.

You bet.

But yes, yes I do. Were married.

I wasnt about to spend the rest of my life hiding a very natural bodily function.

He also knows that I poop.

Classy.

No.

I fart behind my partner, so it sneaks up on her.

Lets drop the act.

My wife of 10 years still likes to pretend like she doesnt fart.

Im almost offended by it. I mean I dont expect her to act Terrence & Phillip style around the house, but Ive seen babies escape her vagina in graphic detail, I dont think we need to act like shes immune to human bodily functions.

Personally Ill attempt to quietly fart, and if she notices shell make a face but otherwise be ok. I have some stomach dramas and if I dont release gas I tend to get real bad stomach cramping.

I guess personally with marriage I feel like we should be free to act like nobodies watching. It feels like a waste of energy being all private about things.

Weird love.

I dont have a dog so we blame it on ducks.

We also do not have ducks.

We are weird.

LOL.

Yes.

Sometimes I do it by accident, sometimes I do it intentionally.

Did The US SEC Just Endorse Ethereum After This Settlement? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

On May 30, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that Ishan Wahi, the former Coinbase product manager, and his brother, Nikhil Wahi, had agreed to settle charges brought forth by the regulator accusing them of engaging in an insider trading scheme.

SEC Settlement With Former Coinbase Product Manager

In this way, the two defendants also agreed that their actions violated Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act.

Accordingly, Ishan has been sentenced to two years in prison, while his brother, Nikhil, will serve ten months behind bars.

In a statement, the SEC also said the former Coinbase product manager forfeited 10.97 ETH and 9,440 USDT. On the other hand, Nikhil has submitted to the state 892,500 USDT.

This is part of the settlement and forfeiture of securities the SEC said were ill-gotten.

The case was settled roughly a year after the SEC filed the suit at the District Court for the Western District of Washington, accusing the former Coinbase product manager of using confidential information to benefit from trading crypto assets, most of which, the regulator claims, were securities.

According to the Director of the SECs Division of Enforcement, Gurbir S. Grewal, their actions amounted to insider trading. Grewal stated:

While the technologies at issue, in this case, may be new, the conduct is not. We allege that Ishan and Nikhil Wahi, respectively, tipped and traded securities based on material nonpublic information, and thats insider trading, pure and simple.

How Will The SEC Handle Ethereum?

While the SEC succeeded, questions are being asked about how the regulator will allow the forfeiture of those digital assets, including Ethereum, in a way that the regulator considers legal and lawful.

Though there is an argument that all assets received from the two brothers will be forfeited to the Department of Justice (DoJ), some maintain that the SEC must first confirm receipt.

Recently, Gary Gensler, the chairman of the SEC, failed to clarify whether Ethereum, like Bitcoin, is a commodity that should be treated as a property and its capital gains tax.

While in front of the House Financial Services Committee, Gensler repeatedly said the agency was learning more about Ethereum.

This didnt help ETH since a clear endorsement from the SEC, the principal regulator, could lead to regulatory clarity, possibly driving prices and on-chain activity.

We Tried Photoshops New AI Tool on Art, With Mixed Results "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Last Tuesday, May 23, Adobe debuted a brand-new Photoshop tool called Generative Fill, which allows users to directly modify their images through text prompts or extend the background of a visual. The tool, powered by the companys new AI software called Firefly, is accessible during its beta testing through the desktop app. Online, some art history lovers are having a blast expanding their favorite artworks and even album covers beyond the frame, seemingly without limits while others are bemoaning the ways in which the tool can distort an artists original vision.

One key feature to note is that Adobe Firefly is trained only on the Adobe Stock library, rather than a dataset comprising all sorts of scraped content available online, therefore apparently evading the prominent criticisms of art theft and copyright violations that tailgate other generative image software like Dall-E 2 and Stable Diffusion. But in the short time I spent playing around with the tool, I can safely say there are some kinks that need to be hammered out before our dear photo editor f...

The American painter, sculptor, photographer, draftsman, and printmaker was a pioneer of the abstract Color Field movement in the 1940s and 50s and became known for his Minimalist style, distinctive use of color and geometric shapes, and incorporation of hard-edge painting techniques. Born and raised in Newburgh, New York, Kelly lived and worked in the state up until his death in December 2015 at the age of 92. For his centennial, a number of institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC); the Lever House in New York City; the Edward Hopper House in Nyack; the Glenstone Museum in Potomac; and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art are celebrating his lasting legacy with a number of special shows and programs honoring both Kellys most famous and lesser-known contributions to the art world.

Through March 17, 2024, the Glenstone Museum is displaying an encyclopedic exhibition titled...

XRP Breaks 2-Year Trendline: Is A 500x Surge On The Horizon? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

XRP, one of the top cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, has been bullish since May 26th, outperforming most of the top 10 cryptocurrencies. This surge in price comes as investors have high expectations for the outcome of the ongoing SEC vs. Ripple Labs case.

XRP Shatters 2-Year Trendline

The recent uptrend in XRP is particularly significant as the cryptocurrency has just broken through a two-year trendline, a key technical indicator for traders and investors, according to the trader Jaydee.

XRP

Per the analysis of Jaydee, In 2017, XRP experienced a significant breakout when it surpassed a two-year trendline. This breakout led to a massive increase in value for the cryptocurrency, with XRP seeing a surge of 504x over just one year. This means that if an investor had purchased XRP at the start of 2017, they would have seen a return on investment of more than 50,000% by the end of the year.

If XRP were to experience a similar surge in value today, with the cryptocurrency currently trading at $0.5116, it could reach a value of $258 by 2024. However, its important to note that predicting future price movements in cryptocurrency markets is highly challenging, and many factors could impact the value of XRP.

For example, the ongoing SEC vs. Ripple Labs case could significantly impact the tokens future price movements. If the case is resolved in Ripple Labs favor, it could lead to increased adoption and investment in XRP. On the other hand, if the case is decided against Ripple Labs, it could lead to a decrease in demand for the cryptocurrency and a drop in its value.

However, Jaydee believes that the cryptocurrency will not experience a surge of 504x shortly. According to the analyst, XRPs market cap is too high to support such a significant increase in value. The token has a market cap of over $26 billion, making it the sixth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

Despite these uncertainties, many investors remain bullish on...

Enchantment and the Courage of Joy: Ren Magritte on the Antidote to the Banality of Pessimism "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Life is wasted when we make it more terrifying, precisely because it is so easy to do so.

Enchantment and the Courage of Joy: Ren Magritte on the Antidote to the Banality of Pessimism

In a world pocked by cynicism and pummeled by devastating news, to find joy for oneself and spark it in others, to find hope for oneself and spark it in others, is nothing less than a countercultural act of courage and resistance. This is not a matter of denying reality it is a matter of discovering a parallel reality where joy and hope are equally valid ways of being. To live there is to live enchanted with the underlying wonder of reality, beneath the frightful stories we tell ourselves and are told about it.

Having lost his mother to suicide, having lived through two World Wars, the Belgian surrealist artist Ren Magritte (November 21, 1898August 15, 1967) devoted his life and his art to creating such a parallel world of enchantment.

Girl Born in Jail Defies Expectations and Gets Accepted to Harvard University

Congratulations are in order for one exceptional young woman. Eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky Castner just graduated third in her class from Conroe High School in Texas, an admirable feat on its own; but, its all the more impressive given how much the teen has triumphed over in her young life. She was born to an incarcerated mother and raised by a single father. Through hard work and the lucky outreach of a valuable mentor, Castner is now set to attend her dream school, Harvard University, in the fall.

Castner was born while her mother was incarcerated in the Galveston County Jail. Her father then raised her as a single parent; Castner has only spoken to her mother once at age 14. The Houston Chronicle reports that the young girl showed academic aptitude, but felt she could benefit from having another adult mentor in her life. Castner was paired with Mona Hamby, and the two quickly grew close.

Hamby helped out by guiding Castner through the minutiae of life, from buying glasses to haircuts. It was a very different environment than I grew up in and thats not a bad thing, Castner told the paper. Everything that Mona taught me was very valuable in the same way that everything that I went through before Mona was very valuable. As to her strong academic drive, the teen says, There was something satisfying about having all As and having that accomplishment. Grades just meant a lot to me. She set her sights on Harvard after visiting the campus with Hamby, and she started her all-important admissions essay with her own beginning: I was born in prison.

Castner was admitted early action to the prestigious university, and she will be welcomed to campus with the rest of the freshman class in the fall. She hopes to study the lawwhile law is not an undergraduate major at Harvard, hopefully Castner will be able to pursue her passion through cross-listed courses.

Castner's success is to be applauded, and Hamby's support for the girl is a lucky intervention. Unfortunately, the odds are stacked against children who begin life with parents who are incarcerated or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system....

The Debate Around Cursed Ordinal Inscriptions "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

After only four months since the protocol was launched, ord has its first contentious debate about what are known as cursed inscriptions.

The simplest definition of a cursed inscription is any inscription that does not currently get indexed and identified by ord. This term came about as a catchall when some people incorrectly used or purposefully misused opcodes to create inscriptions that were not able to be indexed by ord and would therefore be unrecognized and not given an inscription number.

This issue was first mentioned on April 25 in the ord github and the interim fix proposed by then lead developer Casey Rodarmor was to, Modify ord to recognize the above currently invalid inscriptions, including retroactively in old blocks, but consider these new inscriptions cursed and assign them negative inscription numbers.

Funnily enough, the example inscription code on the Ordinals docs website would have been a cursed inscription.

Link to embedded Tweet.

There are many ways cursed inscriptions can be created. Any inscription with multiple inputs/outputs would be considered cursed. As shown above, certain misuse of opcodes such as OP_1 can lead to cursed inscriptions. Alternatively, the introduction of OP_66 using a value of cursed intentionally made these types of inscriptions by having an even numbered opcode which is not indexed by ord. Unless already defined in the spec, even numbered opcodes are not recognized because they are reserved for future protocol development. The full list of ways to create cursed inscriptions from issue #2045 is as follows:

  • Multiple inscriptions per transaction, for efficient batching.
  • Inscriptions on inputs after the first, which is useful for collections.
  • Multiple inscriptions on the same sat, so that the entire history of a sat doesnt need to be checked to determine if a new inscription is valid.
  • Inscriptions with unrecognized even headers, so that new even headers don't cause upgraded clients to disagree about inscription numbers.

There are a couple specific debates around cursed inscriptions. One of the disputes comes from the way that these inscriptions are currently numbered. Cursed inscriptions are numbered negatively in the order of their creation. Because of this numbering system and naming convention, some people purposefully chose to create inscriptions and collections that appear cursed whether by flipping the image of a positively numbered inscription or using a more sinister image theme...

Liquidators Of Sam Bankman-Frieds Alameda Research Have Scavenged $110 Million Of Bitcoin After Losing Billions "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Liquidators in charge of the recovery of assets for the now-disgraced Alameda Research hedge fund founded by Sam Bankman-Fried currently control over $110 million worth of bitcoin held in various wallets, according to a report supplied by blockchain analysis firm Arkham Intelligence. These wallets have been receiving BTC from exchanges and cold wallets as recently as March 2023, the report revealed.

The aggregation of these wallets provides insights into the liquidators' collection of BTC from Alameda's holdings. A recent transaction in April involved a 1 BTC test from Alameda's Merchant wallet. This BTC was later sent to a holding address now under the control of Alameda's Liquidators, known as 'Alameda Merchant 1.' Since the beginning of 2023, this address has accumulated 3,581 BTC, worth approximately $97.19 million at current prices.

The report states that In total, Alamedas liquidators have managed to secure 4,083 BTC (currently $110.81M) sourced from:

  • Other Alameda Wallets: 34.94 BTC (currently worth $948.27K)
  • Deribit: 467.366 BTC (currently worth $12.68M)
  • WBTC Custodian: 2997 BTC (currently worth $81.34M)
  • Bitfinex: 298.027 BTC (currently worth $8.09M)
  • Unlabelled Wallets (possibly an Exchange): 286.7 BTC (currently worth $7.78M)
A screenshot from the provided report.

However, this is only a fraction of the BTC that Alameda controlled in the past, the report noted. Wallets connected to this network of Alamedas BTC activity were worth at peak over $800M, with Alameda likely holding more BTC in Centralized Exchanges or unlinked Cold Wallets.

Arkham Intelligence stated that it will continue to monitor the on-chain activity of Alamedas liquidators.

Playful Scenes by Julian Frost Animate the Absurd through Minimal Details "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

All images Julian Frost, shared with permission

Illustrator Julian Frost might equate his animations to one-liners. Minimal in composition, his works convey a simple idea through succinct absurdities. A line-drawn character walks with an exceptional amount of purpose only to wander a tiny cube or slam into a pillar obstructing its path, while another figure dances in an endless loop of flying daggers, detached body parts already lining the floor.

When creating, Frost strives to pare down his animations to just the necessities, likening them to jokes so well-crafted you couldnt remove a word. The goal is to create what he calls idiotic zen poetry, conveyed through repeating motions, clean lines, and healthy doses of negative space.

Find more of Frosts animations and illustrations on his site and Instagram. You also might enjoy this conversation with Christoph Niemann who discusses wit and distilling ideas.

Friendly Whales Approach Two Paddlers in Puerto Madryn, Argentina

Screenshots of video showing whale approaching two paddlers in Puerto Madryn, Argentina

Picture yourself paddling along some tranquil waters when, out of nowhere, you're surrounded by whales. While they are known for mostly being gentle giants, the thrill of coming so close to some of the largest animals in the world can be overwhelming. This happened to Mariana Gioielli and Paolo Osta while they were practicing stand paddling near their hometown of Puerto Madryn, in the Argentine Patagonia.

The now-viral video shows the couple swarmed by Southern right whales. There's three of them, stay calm, an excited Gioielli, who recorded the video, is heard saying. Meanwhile, Osta looks concerned, as he hopes the whales won't knock them off the paddle. It's right under us, the woman cheerfully warns seconds before one of the mammals breaks the surface with a loud noise just a couple feet away from them.

A handful of additional videos show them trying to stay very still as the whales first approach them. Hi, beautiful, gorgeous, the woman greets one of the mammals. Throughout the footage, Gioielli continues to laugh nervously. She balances her desire to flee the scene and the awe of being so close to the whales, all while pleading with everyone presenthuman and animalto remain calm. Despite being only inches away, they both felt it was best not to touch them.

With a nervous smile, Osta begins paddling away, but the playful whales continue to surround them, even elevating their tails right next to the board. The man says, I want to get out of here. Meanwhile, the woman seems to be making the most of the additional company: Easy, easy Look at its...

Here's another question for you. Why is our government funding illegal aliens by the millions, relocating them to where they want to go, and offering them food and shelter as the drug cartels bring in fentanyl from China and human traffickers smuggle in more? Maybe Christian Americans are less welcome in their own land than illegal aliens, fentanyl, and control of the southern border of our country.

Rick Hoyt, whose father pushed him in his wheelchair for 32 Boston Marathons, has died at age 61. Together with his father Dick, who passed away in 2021, he competed in numerous athletic competitions and provided inspiration to differently-abled people around the world. According to his family, Hoyt died from complications with his respiratory system.

Hoyt was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth and was confined to a wheelchair. When he was 11 years old, he began using a computer to type out his thoughts. Though his father was not an athlete, the duo began to compete in races starting in 1977. At the time, Hoyt wanted to compete in a five-mile race to benefit a lacrosse player who had been paralyzed. In an interview, he explained, I wanted to show this person that life goes on and he could still lead a productive life.

Dick pushed Hoyt's wheelchair, and they came in second to last. From there, Dick began training, as Hoyt told his father that when they were running, it felt like his disability disappeared. Over the next four decades, they ran over 1,000 races. This included not only marathons but also duathlons and triathlons. They completed 6 Ironmans, with his father pulling him in a boat during the swimming portion.

Should Pregnant Women Have More Time To Fully Recover From Birth? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

As a person who has been pregnant and has given birth, I can tell you its more traumatic than anyone could really understand unless they have been through it firsthand.

That goes, I think, for most spouses who really arent able to fully grasp whats going on in a womans body and mind in those first weeks postpartum.

This woman is from a culture where women are encouraged to spend at least a month recovering, with help from her family and spouse to truly be able to rest and facilitate new motherhood.

So I (30f) is giving birth soon and we have thing in my region called zuo yue zu which is basically post pregnancy recovery. What we do is to stay in bed and try to recover the physical and mental toll pregnancy did on our body.

to clarify when I say confinement i dont mean actually just staying on the bed of course I can move around and yoga is probably going to be in my routine. But confinement as in I avoid going out, i avoid doing strenuous activity and to rest more. And yes per my doctors recommendations, she wants me to rest for at least a month.

She wants to do the same, even though she lives in America now with an American husband, but her husband isnt sure its necessary.

So Ive moved to my husbands country and its not a widely done thing here apparently and Ive already take 2 months off from work.

Ive talked to my husband about this but he thinks its very unnecessary, especially since I need someone to take care of me and the child during the period.

I tried talking about it before but it was shut down and i thought it was fine and I could go without one. but my pregnancy wasnt smooth after 6th month mark and instead of natural birth we are now going c section and Alot of stuff happened especially within the last few week so now Im pretty adamant about getting this...

As far back as 5,000 years ago, ancient Egyptians worshipped the goddess Bastet, who took the form of a lioness, a fierce warrior deity associated with the sun. She was seen as a protector during pregnancy and childbirth and a defender against evil spirits and diseases. Over time, her likeness adopted the characteristics of a domestic cat, which in later dynasties assumed cult-like status, and the animals were revered and bred for protection and sacrifice. Along with mythological beings such as Sekhmet, another lion-faced, solar goddess of medicine, the deities comprise an integral part of sculptor Nichola Theakstons soulful exploration into the history, lore, and spirits of animals.

Working in ceramics and bronze, Theakstons practice (previously) centers on meditative depictions of mammals, drawing on ancient sources to connect viewers with contemporary concerns and timeless perceptions. In her continuing series of primate portraits, the subjects appear calm, meditative, or lost in thought...
