AI makes non-invasive mind-reading possible by turning thoughts into text "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

An AI-based decoder that can translate brain activity into a continuous stream of text has been developed, in a breakthrough that allows a person's thoughts to be read non-invasively for the first time. The decoder could reconstruct speech with uncanny accuracy while people listened to a story or even silently imagined one using only fMRI scan data. Previous language decoding systems have required surgical implants. Large language models the kind of AI underpinning OpenAI's ChatGPT ... are able to represent, in numbers, the semantic meaning of speech, allowing the scientists to look at which patterns of neuronal activity corresponded to strings of words with a particular meaning rather than attempting to read out activity word by word. The decoder was personalised and when the model was tested on another person the readout was unintelligible. It was also possible for participants on whom the decoder had been trained to thwart the system, for example by thinking of animals or quietly imagining another story. Jerry Tang, a doctoral student at the University of Texas at Austin and a co-author, said: "We take very seriously the concerns that it could be used for bad purposes and have worked to avoid that. We want to make sure people only use these types of technologies when they want to and that it helps them." Prof Tim Behrens, a computational neuroscientist ... said it opened up a host of experimental possibilities, including reading thoughts from someone dreaming.

How "media literacy" became the new "fake news": A meaningless corporate buzzword "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Tessa Jolls, president of the Center for Media Literacy, published a report last month entitled "Building Resiliency: Media Literacy as a Strategic Defense Strategy for the Transatlantic." It reads like a blueprint for indoctrinating students in corporatism and militarism under the auspices of media literacy education. The standard definition of media literacy used in American education is "the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create and act using all forms of communication." In response to the post-2016 panic over fake news, there was a demand for more media literacy education in schools. This provided a window of opportunity for major media companies  which had long sought to enter the classroom to advertise their products and collect student data to move rapidly toward indoctrinate students with corporate propaganda under the "media literacy" umbrella. The same military and intelligence communities now calling for "media literacy" have been producing and spreading fake news, at home and abroad, for at least 70 years. Jolla' report ignores that members of the same military and intelligence communities that she lauds have produced and spread fake news to U.S. citizens, from the time of Operation Mockingbird in the mid-20th century up through the present on various social media platforms. She also never discusses public efforts to disempower the military-industrial complex's ability to dictate truth. Real media literacy education empowers students to ... ask their own questions.

Army Info War Division Wants Social Media Surveillance to Protect 'NATO Brand' "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The U.S. Army Cyber Command told defense contractors it planned to surveil global social media use to defend the "NATO brand," according to a 2022 webinar recording reviewed by The Intercept. "NATO is one of our key brands that we are pushing, as far as our national security alliance," [Lt. Col. David Beskow] explained. The mass social media surveillance appears to be just one component of a broader initiative to use private-sector data mining to advance the Army's information warfare efforts. Beskow expressed an interest in purchasing access to nonpublic commercial web data, corporate ownership records, supply chain data, and more. While the U.S. national security establishment frequently warns against other countries' "weaponization" of social media and the broader internet, recent reporting has shown the Pentagon engages in some of the very same conduct. Researchers from Graphika and the Stanford Internet Observatory uncovered a network of pro-U.S. Twitter and Facebook accounts covertly operated by U.S. Central Command, an embarrassing revelation that led to a "sweeping audit of how it conducts clandestine information warfare." Despite years of alarm in Washington over the threat posed by deepfake video fabrications to democratic societies, The Intercept reported last month that U.S. Special Operations Command is seeking vendors to help them make their own deepfakes to deceive foreign internet users.

Japan Loses 30% Of Total Crypto Hacks In North Korea, Elliptic Reports "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Japan has emerged with the highest losses worldwide from North Korean cyberattacks targeting crypto exchanges, as recent reports indicate that Japans financial institutions and individuals incurred approximately 30% of the total losses attributed to North Korean crypto hacking.

The Japanese government has been particularly vocal about the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures to combat these malicious activities. But despite ongoing efforts to bolster their defenses, Japanese exchanges have been a primary target, suffering substantial financial losses and tarnishing the countrys reputation as a secure hub for digital assets.

Japans 30% Crypto Losses

The Elliptic report from a leading blockchain analytics firm, Nikkei, reveals that Japan suffered a staggering $721 million in losses, accounting for about 30% of the total amount hacked globally.

The numbers were culled from hacks that occurred between 2017 and 2022, reaching a total amount of $2.3 billion. Notably, in 2022 alone, the digital asset ecosystem lost an estimated $640 million worth of cryptocurrency.

A Reuters report from the United Nations revealed that digital currency theft exploits in North Korea hit a new high in 2022. The report also showed that the second most-attacked nation was Vietnam, losing approximately $540 million within the same period.

The United States was the third nation on the list, and Hong Kong came out in fourth place, with $497 million and $281 million losses, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Elliptic findings shed light on the vulnerability of the Japanese cryptocurrency market, including that of the Vietnamese.

It noted that both markets have lax security measures, making it an attractive target for hackers seeking to exploit weaknesses and gain illicit access to digital assets.

The significant losses incurred by Japan reflect the growing threat posed by North Korean hacking groups, which have increasingly targeted cryptocurrency exchanges and platforms worldwide.

Notable Exploits From North Koreas Lazarus Group

The Lazarus Group is believed to act on behalf of the North Korean regime to bypass international sanctions and fund illicit activities.

Power Play: Top 5 Cryptos Set To Ignite The Week With Decent Gains "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

After a disastrous week, the digital currency market , including the top 5 cryptos, is ready for a recovery. According to CoinGecko, the crypto markets total market cap increased by nearly 2% in the past 24 hours.

Although the broader financial market is still closely monitoring the US debt ceiling crisis, Bitcoin and Ethereums recent localized rallies, along with the strong performances of the top 5 cryptos, pulled the market upward.

Top 5 Cryptos Expected To Pad Investors Portfolio With Gains

KAVA

Although last week was painful for investors, KAVA saw gains in both TVL and price. According to DefiLlama, the Kava ecosystems TVL grew by over 3% in the past 24 hours with steady gains since last week. KAVA itself is experiencing bullish pressure, with the token up more than 43% in the past seven days.

The tokens current momentum seemed to be slowing down, showing signs that KAVA may face losses in the short term. However, a rebound from $0.782 will open the path to $1.46 as investors gain confidence along with the general market rebound.

LDO

After implementing Lido V2 in February, Lido has exempted itself from the general market downturn in the past few weeks. According to CoinGecko, the price of LDO rose by nearly 23% since last week. This shows investors strength along with a strong strategic partnership to ensure Lidos dominance in the DeFi industry.

Heres how the growth in PEPE has so far compared with that of its predecessor meme coins: Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Dogecoin (DOGE).

PEPEs Peak Trading Volume Hasnt Been Near DOGE Or SHIBs Yet

Pepe Coin, a token based on the popular internet frog meme avatar, suddenly burst into the scene last month. The coin has enjoyed a rapid rise in popularity, with its best period coming in the first week of this month, where it registered a price increase of more than 1,000%.

Since this amazing rally earlier in the month, however, the cryptocurrency has seemed to have run out of steam. Nonetheless, market participants have still been wondering about the long-term prospects of the coin, as the meme coin has been looked at as the next big thing after DOGE and SHIB.

But cab PEPE really compare with these top two meme coins by market cap?

In its latest insight, the on-chain analytics firm Santiment has compared a couple of metrics between these three assets, to see where PEPE stands against them.

The first indicator of interest here is the trading volume, which is a measure of the daily total amount of a given cryptocurrency thats being transacted on the blockchain.

Here is a chart that highlights how the trading volume for PEPE has looked recently, as well as the behavior the indicator showed during the respective peaks of Dogecoin and Shiba Inu:

Pepe vs Shiba Inu vs Dogecoin

As displayed in the above graph, PEPE has observed a peak trading volume of $2 billion so far, which is quite sizeable in isolation, but when compared to what Dogecoin and Shiba Inu saw during their best periods, the spike appears very small.

Naturally, these humongous spikes in DOGEs and SHIBs trading volumes occurred only later in the lifetimes of the assets, while the frog is still very much in its infancy.

Although PEPEs trading volume is significantly lower, it leaves room for growth and untapped potential, explains Santiment.

However, it also means that the liquidity and retail participation in the market for PEPE is far less than what DOGE and SHIB experienced in previous years. In fact, it seems the retail landscape has changed dramatically, with retail participation appearing nearly nonexistent, the on-chain data aggregator added.

The other metric of relevance here is the ...

Immersed in nature, female figures dance, reflect, and rest in Jonathan Hateleys limber bronze sculptures. The subjects commune with their surroundings, greeting the sun or leaning into the wind and merging with patterns of foliage or lichen. I was drawn to create a sculpture reflecting nature on the surface of the figure, which could be better highlighted with the use of colour, he tells Colossal. This has evolved over time from the shapes of leaves to fingerprints and cherry blossoms to plant cells.

Before he began an independent studio practice, Hateley worked for a commercial workshop that produced sculptures for television, theatre, and film, often with rapid turnaround. Over time, he was attracted to slowing down and emphasizing experimentation, finding inspiration in regular walks in nature. Although hes focused on the human figure for more than a decade, he originally resisted that style. I began with wildlife, and that began to evolve into organic forms with details illustrated onto the sculptures, he tells Colossal. Between 2010 and 2011, he completed a remarkable...

Ripple CTO Reveals Facts About Present XRP Burn Debate "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Ripple, David Schwartz, has provided valuable information about the ongoing debate surrounding the burning of XRP tokens.

The debate about burning XRP tokens has been hot within the XRP community, and Schwartzs insights shed light on the XRPLs governance structure and the decentralized nature of the network.

The discussion primarily revolved around the authority and decision-making process concerning the XRP held in escrow and the role of validators on the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

Burn Debate Insight From Schwartz

Schwartz highlighted the importance of understanding the fundamental principles and mechanisms behind the XRPL. He explained that the XRPL operates on a consensus protocol where validators, distributed across the network, play a crucial role in maintaining the ledgers integrity. And validators are responsible for verifying transactions and reaching a consensus on the XRPL.

Regarding the burning of XRP tokens, Schwartz emphasized that the XRPLs design does not include a built-in mechanism for burning XRP.

The CTO also stated that changes to the XRPLs code are governed by a decentralized process, ensuring that all participants have a voice in determining the networks future.

So altering the XRPLs code to incorporate such a feature would require extensive consensus and agreement from the majority of validators, around 80%.

One of the key points raised during the conversation was the claim made by an XRP community member, suggesting that the XRPL would become a permissioned network if validators had the power to determine the fate of the XRP in escrow.

This statement sparked a significant amount of discussion within the XRP community, as the decentralized nature of the XRPL has always been a critical aspect of its design.

Regarding that, Schwartz clarified that while validators play a crucial role in the XRPLs consensus process, the networks nodes can accept or decline amendments voted into effect by validators.

This system ensures that the power to influence the fate of the XRP held in escrow is not concentrated solely within the validators hands.

Instead, it allows for a decentralized decision-making process that considers the perspectives and interests of various participants.

XRP Price Dips In Recent Days

Amid the discussion in the community, the tokens price has experienced a minor decline in recent trading sessions. Over the past seven days, XRPs price has seen a marginal decrease of 0.56%, indicating a relatively stable trend.

AIs Multi-Tiered Camper Vans Visualize the Surreal Future of Nomadic Living "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

AIs Multi-Tiered Camper Vans Visualize the Surreal Future of Nomadic Living

Kinetic Kingdoms by Ulises Design Studio

Founded by architect Ricardo Orts, Ulises is a Berlin-based design studio that specializes in crafting near-future architecture. Combining their multidisciplinary background with cutting-edge technology, Ulises uses Midjourney to produce surreal designs for the future. One of their most striking projects is Kinetic Kingdom, which looks at how future nomadic communities might live.

By Ulises' design, these communities would take up residence in fantastical, multilevel campers that look more like mobile apartment buildings than any ordinary RV. With spacious windows that flood the interiors with light and sleek, clean exteriors, these caravans are enough to tempt anyone to go off-grid.

The root of this project is the desire to explore how humanity can live a more sustainable lifestyle while still fostering a sense of community. As each caravan is packed with amenities, Ulises allows people to live comfortably while still staying grounded in nature. The firm isn't asking people to turn away from comfort when thinking sustainably; instead, they're using AI technology to come up with imaginative and innovative ways to incentivize off-grid living.

By embracing a more nomadic lifestyle, we can explore new ways of living that are both exciting and sustainable, all while fostering a sense of community and connection with the world around us, shares Orts.

It's projects like this that highlight the positive side of AI in helping designers brainstorm and innovate new living solutions. Now if someone could just engineer one of these caravans to really drive on the open road, we're sure it would be filled with residents in no time.

Berlin-based Ulises Design Studio uses Midjourney to create forward-thinking design concepts.

Bitcoin Lightning company River raises $35M amid new wave of institutional adoption "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Were seeing another wave of Bitcoin interest, largely driven by business and institutional adoption, says Alex Leishman, River CEO. Its not fueled by hype.

Bitcoin Financial Services Provider River Announces $35 Million Series B Fundraising Round "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin technology and financial services company, River, has announced a successful $35 million equity round in its Series B fundraising effort. Led by Kingsway Capital, the round also saw participation from notable investors such as Peter Thiel, Cygni, Goldcrest and Valor Equity Partners. The company provides a range of Bitcoin services, including zero-fee recurring orders, full-reserve custody, mining and a Bitcoin wallet that supports both on-chain and Lightning Network transactions.

Alex Leishman, the CEO of River, highlighted the growing interest in Bitcoin driven by business and institutional adoption. He emphasized the importance of Bitcoin as a secure path to a stronger and more transparent global economy, especially in light of recent bank failures and bailouts. Leishman stated, "Adopting Bitcoin with a trusted partner is no longer the speculative choice, but rather the prudent one."

According to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, River has experienced significant growth in demand for its enterprise Lightning API, River Lightning. This API enables companies to integrate with the Lightning Network and facilitate instant Bitcoin payments. Notably, El Salvador's Chivo wallet relies on River Lightning for Lightning transactions. The surge in demand for Lightning transactions, driven by rising on-chain fees, has prompted River to expand its B2B River Lightning segment.

Leishman emphasized River's commitment to responsible and reliable practices, setting the company apart from others in the crypto industry. He noted, "We have not taken shortcuts or reckless risks with our regulatory strategy and product offering. We're a mission-driven company with full-reserve Bitcoin custody, and will continue to play our part in moving society towards a brighter economic future powered by Bitcoin."

BNY Mellon Embraces Long-Term Digital Asset Initiatives Across All Lines of Business "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

In a dynamic move towards digital transformation, BNY Mellon, one of the oldest banks in the United States, is pushing forward with its initiatives focused on distributed ledger technology, tokenization, and digital cash.

Roman Regelman, the CEO of securities services and digital, revealed in a recent interview that the bank has been prioritizing digital assets for the past two years in response to increasing client demand.

This latest disclosure comes amid the US banking crisis and United States regulators continuous crackdown on the crypto industry, a sector of the global digital asset market.

Notably, yesterday, the US Securities Exchange and Commission (SEC) responded to Coinbases complaint saying crypto rulemaking may take years and that it is in no rush.

BNY Mellon Embraces Digital Asset Including Crypto?

While BNY Mellon did not explicitly mention cryptocurrencies as part of its digital asset focus, the American Banker reported on the banks prudent motion into the crypto-verse. CEO Robin Vince, during the banks first-quarter earnings call, highlighted the banks meticulous and methodical approach, characterizing their progress as being exceptionally slow.

To demonstrate its commitment to digital assets, BNY Mellon is actively pursuing three key initiatives. This includes actively expanding its services to include custody and clearing solutions for digital assets, with the aim of diversifying its offerings and accommodating a wider range of asset classes.

Regelman revealed the banks vision for digital assets going forward, saying that Everything that we do, we want to do for digital assets.

BNY Mellon is also placing significant emphasis on the adoption of blockchain technology and other innovative advancements to modernize its infrastructure. This decision is aimed at improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and enabling real-time capabilities across the banks systems.

The Aura Around PEPE Isnt Good For The Market, Especially Bitcoin Heres Why "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Pepecoin (PEPE) has been exhibiting a surprising level of calm in its price movement lately. However, contrary to what many may assume, this could be a red flag for Bitcoin (BTC) and the entire cryptocurrency market.

According to a Bloomberg report, when an asset experiences an extended period of calm, it can be a sign of market euphoria and an overheated market.

This raises concerns about the sustainability of the current market trend, especially in the context of the cryptocurrency landscape.

Lets dive deeper into what an overheated market means and how it could impact the king of cryptocurrencies and the market as a whole.

PEPE And The Implications Of An Overheated Market

As reported by Bloomberg, the current market behavior of PEPE is causing concerns for the broader cryptocurrency landscape, particularly for Bitcoin.

This is due to the fact that the rise of PEPE was accompanied by a surge in speculative trading and a frenzy of buying activity, which could indicate market euphoria.

Coinciding with this, the alpha coin has experienced a drop in value and a period of consolidation.

When the market becomes overheated, it means that the prices of assets have risen to an unsustainable level, fueled by excessive optimism and speculation.

In such a scenario, investors tend to overlook the fundamental value of the assets and focus more on the potential for quick profits.

Pepe

This results in a significant increase in demand, which drives up the prices further, creating a bubble that is bound to burst at some point.

In an overheated market, the prices of assets are often overinflated and do not reflect their true value.

This creates a risk of a sharp correction, which could result in significant losses for investors who have overvalued their investments.

Moreover, such a correction could lead to a chain reaction that could affect the entire market, causing panic selling and further price drop...

Is This Latest Ledger Firmware Update A Disaster In The Making? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Ledger, the hardware wallet provider, recently upgraded its called the Ledger Recover that the crypto community is vehemently rejecting.

While upgrades are critical considering the fast-paced nature of cryptocurrencies, Ledger is now being criticized after offering an option for users to store their seed phrases online. The hardware wallet manufacturer said this feature makes it easier for users to quickly recover their seed phrases in case they misplace them.

The Ledger Recover Feature Rejected

The subscription-based service called Ledger Recover effectively grants the manufacturer access to clients seed phrases; defeating the purpose of using a cold wallet in the first place.

Related Reading: DOJ Crypto Task Force Goes After DeFi Hackers As Illicit Activity Soars

The platform says Recover is an ID-based key recovery service that provides backup for seed phrases for coins like Bitcoin.

Bitcoin Price On May 16| Source: BTCUSDT On Binance, TradingView

Earlier, Ledgers co-founder said Recover will split a seed phrase into three shards. A section is distributed to Ledger, Coincover a crypto custody firm, and EscrowTech, a company that escrows codes. Therefore, if a user loses access to their cold wallet by misplacing their private key, two of the three custodians can combine their code to recover the wallets contents.

While this could help, as it is designed, a cold or hardware wallet is non-custodial. Technically, it should be delinked from the internet. By default, Ledger wallet holders should always be responsible for their seed phrases.

Seed phrases allow users to sign transactions confirming that they are the true owners. Whenever they are misplaced, the token owner losses access to all their coins.

Although the Ledger Recover feature is a precaution, some even claim this move makes Ledger a hot wallet. A hot wallet is a cryptocurrency wallet connected to the internet and is often the target of nefarious agents. Whenever hackers strike, they aim to wipe clean assets stored in hot wallets like MetaMask or Coinbase Wallet.

What Does Nigerias Blockchain-Friendly Regulatory Change Mean For Bitcoin Adoption? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Heritage Falodun, a Bitcoin consultant and computer scientist based in Nigeria.

On May 3, 2023, during a federal executive council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the council chamber in Abuja, the Nigerian government approved the official use of blockchain technology in the country.

Nigerias minister of communications and digital economy, professor Ali Isa Pantami, disclosed the official approval of The National Blockchain Policy For Nigeria, stating that the the new policy was a product of consultations with 56 institutions and personalities whose end goal is to institutionalize blockchain technology in Nigerias economy and security sectors.

Source

Nigerias History With Bitcoin Regulation

Taking a deep dive into understanding the disposition of the Nigerian government toward blockchain-dependent innovations over the years will paint a clear picture of how crucial and important this recent policy and federal approval is for the Bitcoin space in Nigeria and Africa at large.

On January 12, 2017, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued a circular which cautioned financial institutions and the general public about the risks associated with blockchain-dependent technologies, such as Bitcoin. Building on that previous warning and directive, on February 5, 2021, the Central Bank of Nigeria officially prohibited banks from facilitating any Bitcoin- and crypto-related transactions by reissuing the circular a ban that remains unreversed as at the time of writing.

This restrictive policy come at a time when adoption of Bitcoin and shitcoin-related activities was on the rise in Nigeria, and it was a restriction that...

Look at Your Screen Hands-Free With One of These Quirky Phone Stands

Quirky Phone Stand by Artori Design

Instead of letting your phone lay around your desk, why not give it a front-row seat? My Modern Met Store has just added four quirky smartphone holders by Artori Design that will prop up your devices in a whimsical way.

Inspired by the way we interact with technology, these products are sure to make you smile. Selfie Stephi, for instance, features a black silhouette of a female figure who is posing for a selfie photograph. And while she holds a phone in one hand, her other will magically keep your own phone upright so you can continue looking at it. Similarly, Tweet Pete contains a depiction of a male figure who is busy tweeting up a storm, his back leaning against one side of your phone so you can keep an eye on notifications or watch some videos.

Another playful design called Like Mike makes it look like a male silhouette is in the middle of scrolling on social media. And while he is preoccupied with his device, he will also make sure to keep yours stable and upright. Lastly, Chatty Patty will inspire you to kick your feet up as it includes a painted metal cutout of a woman sitting down and gabbing away on her phone.

Scroll down to see more images of these phone holders, and head over to My Modern Met Store when you're ready to check out.

The Lion of Chaeronea "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Roman marble statuette (2nd cent. CE) of the Phrygian goddess Cybele, aka the Magna Mater (Great Mother). The goddess was imported to Rome from Pergamum during the Second Punic War, in the form of a black meteoric stone (), at the behest of the Sibylline Books; she was given a festival in April (the Megalensia), but due to the exoticness of her cult, Romans were barred from taking part in the ecstatic procession of her eunuch priests. Here, the goddess is shown seated and attended by the lions that were said to draw her chariot. Now in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Photo credit: LACMA.

This Babysitter Wonders If Family Is Entitled To Deeply Discounted Rates "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Looking after children is hard work whether theyre yours, related to you, or total strangers, and if theyre not yours, I totally understand wanting to be paid in exchange for shaving hours off your life.

OP is babysitting in her spare time in order to save money/pay for school. Shes good at it, too, and demands pretty high fees that parents are totally willing to for over for her time.

When she agreed to watch the child of a family member, she verified that she would be paid and how much, though she did agree to discount her normal rate for family.

I21f work as a babysitter\nanny while I finish my credits for my early child education. Im very well known in my area and am professional, and have different ads for myself. I get multiple jobs a week.

I dont normally babysit for family, but I agreed to a A few days ago. The child was 4, and with that age I usually charge $15 an hour, $200 a day. For this particular family member I agreed to do it for $150 a day.

The day of, after she already had the child, she was told they wouldnt be able to pay her the full rate they had agreed upon.

It was 2 hours in and my relative told me she could only pay me $50-80, and that she hoped I understood. I told her I didnt understand because I told her up front already, and that I even lowered my rate for her.

This is what I live off of, I missed out on other opportunitys that would pay way more, so I cant have her low ball me.

OP informed the family member she would have the quoted rate or she would not be watching the child, and when she got no response, she dropped the kiddo off with a trusted family member and went about her day.

She began ignoring me, so I told her if she continued I would drop her off at another relatives. She...

Ryuichi Sakamoto died last March, three months after his final live performance, and two months after the release of his final album 12. Its safe to say that life, for him, was more or less synonymous with music, and indeed he prepared music to extend even beyond his lifes end. A prolific recording artist, both solo and in collaboration, he no doubt left a great deal of unreleased material in the vault (or so his fans all hope). He also curated the music of others, an occasional pursuit that culminated in the newly released playlist that Sakamoto created to be played at his own funeral.

The 33-track playlist features some of Ryuichi Sakamotos favorite music, writes NMEs Surej Singh, including works from Bach, Debussy and Ravel, and opens with an 11-minute piece Haloid Xerrox Copy 3 (Paris) from Sakamotos frequent collaborator Alva Noto.

Take Carl Jungs Word Association Test, a Quick Route Into the Subconscious (1910) "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Weve all, at one time or another, been asked to say the first thing that pops into our heads in response to a certain word or phrase. It may have happened to us in school, in a market research group, or perhaps in a job interview at a company that regards itself as somewhat outside-the-box. Most such exercises, and the theories supporting their efficacy as a tool for revealing the speakers inner self, originate with the work of the Swiss psychiatrist-psychoanalyst and then-protg of Sigmund Freud Carl Jung.

Jung published his description of this association method in the American Journal of Psychology in 1910, and you can see the story of its creation animated in the usual Monty Python-esque paper-cutout style told in the new School of Life video above. In his word-association test, says narrator Alain de Botton, doctor and patient were to sit facing one another, and the doctor would read out a list of one hundred words. On hearing each of these, the patient was to say the first thing that came into their head. The patient must try never to delay speaking and that they strive to be extremely honest in reporting whatever they were thinking of, however embarrassing, strange, or random it might seem.

So many people work from home these days and it seems like the overall consensus is that folks enjoy skipping the commute and spending more time in the friendly confines of their houses.

But it sounds like there are still some issues that employers need to figure out if their employees work from home.

Why is Miriam Cahns Art Depicting Child Abuse Exposed in Museums? And Why is Macron Defending Her? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Warning: This article contains disturbing paintings.

I had to preface this article with a warning because it will contain horrific paintings depicting various forms of abuse. And many of these paintings clearly include children. These paintings are not on display in some obscure, underground location, theyre on display at the Palais de Tokyo, a prestigious contemporary art center in Paris.

One of these paintings (titled Fuck Abstraction!) is so vile that it caused outrage in France. Six major associations led by the Association de Juristes Pour LEnfance (Lawyers for Childhood) sought the removal of this painting on the grounds that French law forbids the exhibition of pornographic representations of minors. The courts ruled against the associations.

Then, an elderly man threw some paint at this painting to protest against it. Following this event, Emmanuel Macron himself took to Twitter to defend this painting.

Her Nephews Flushed Her Engagement Ring. Should Her Brother Replace It? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

There should really be no debate when it comes to who is responsible for kids, whether its watching them, caring for them, or making things right when they inevitably screw up.

OP starts off by saying that she rarely wears her engagement ring anymore, instead leaving it to sit in her master bedroom closet.

Recently, she had family over, including her young(ish) nephews. They were not being properly supervised, and so I think you can probably guess where this is going.

I hosted a family dinner over the weekend. My brother brought my nephews (4 and 8) over as well.

I used to wear my engagement ring all the time, but lately I keep it in my walk in closet and mainly wear it for special occasions. While I was cleaning up the dinner table, my nephews went to go play while the adults were still in the outdoor patio/outdoor kitchen area. My brother was not supervising his kids.

During this time, my nephews went into the master bedroom without anyone knowing and started playing with everything. Including my engagement ring.

They were in her room, playing with her things, and when they realized they were about to get busted, ran and flushed her ring down the toilet.

When we came to look for them, they paniced because they know they arent supposed to be upstairs, ran into the master bathroom and flushed my ring.

We called a plumber in case it was somehow in the u trap of the toilet and not actually gone. But nope. Unfortunately it was gone for good.

Her ring that, as it happens, was worth around $30k.

She wants her brother to pay her back but he says she should just let it go, because theyre kids and they do dumb stuff.

Explore the Extraordinary Eons-Old Details of the Moons Surface in an Astounding 1.3-Gigapixel Composite "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A composite image of a waxing gibbous moon

All images Andrew McCarthy, shared with permission

For his latest celestial undertaking, Arizona-based astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy turned his lens toward the moon, documenting the Earths satellite in astounding detail. As hes wont to do, McCarthy stitched together a staggering number of images to create a composite so large that it reveals the craggy, pocked surface in extraordinary detail.

GigaMoon is, as its name suggests, a 1.3-gigapixel image comprised of 280,000 individual photos captured on two telescopes, one for detail and one for color. Taken on the unusually clear night of April 29 during its waxing gibbous phase, the work reveals a surface rich with history. Zoom in and see the irregular shapes of sinuous lava tubes, the catastrophic scars from impact craters, monstrous canyons, and towering mountains, McCarthy says, alluding to the interactive version that allows viewers to magnify different areas. The photographers largest image to date, GigaMoon offers a rare glimpse into the nighttime orb and the current state of its form after eons in existence.

There are currently a few prints of the work available in his shop, and Pe...

The Most Endangered Historic Sites in the US "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) has released its yearly list of Americas 11 Most Endangered Historic Places, putting a spotlight on an expansive range of cultural and historical landmarks in danger of disappearance. The organization has published the list annually since 1988 based on nominations from the public as a way to galvanize efforts to save notable sites at risk of vanishing. Over 35 years since its initial report, the NTHP has named over 350 sites.

Many of these places face a number of threats, from gentrification to weather deterioration, and have been relying on community preservation efforts to keep their legacies alive.

This years NTHP report recognized two Chinatown neighborhoods in Seattle and Philadelphia where large-scale development plans threaten to push out generations of residents and family-owned businesses. In downtown Charleston, the NTHP also focused on the community advocates leading the fight to preserve the citys historic Union Pier, a 65-acre neighborhood running along the Cooper River. Organizers worry that a proposed plan for a mixed-use district on the waterfront site could forever change the...

Nakba is the Arabic word for the catastrophe. Approximately three-quarters of all Palestinians were violently displaced from their homes in 1948 following the creation of the State of Israel. Seventy-five years later, can artists effectively engage the public to better understand the ongoing impact of the Nakba? While mainstream museums tiptoe around the topic despite often owning vast collections of art from the region a small London-based gallery is bringing lived experiences of the Nakba to the surface.

Adorable Pup Found Hidden in Picasso Painting "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Researchers have uncovered a small dog that was intentionally concealed in one of Pablo Picassos early paintings included in the Young Picasso in Paris exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan. In the foreground of the artists Le Moulin de la Galette (1900), a dark brown form that appears to be either the back of a chair or a coat draped over it was Picassos attempt at covering up the light-colored lapdog with a red bow tied around its neck, according to scanning X-ray fluorescence conducted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The painting in question portrays a Bohemian party taking place in the dimly lit dancehall in Montmartres Moulin de la Galette, a windmill that opened as a cabaret for French nightlife in the 18th arrondissement of north Paris. Colorfully dressed men and women wearing the finest hats dance, drink, and gossip across Picassos candlelit composition, pointing to his excitement in involving himself with the Parisian arts and culture scene upon moving there that year at age 19. The little dog sat at the table beside the smirking woman in the paintings lefthand corner, staring directly at the viewer with a rather nondescript face that matches the loose, swishing forms throughout the rest of the painting. But the pooch didnt...

Khan Academy Founder Says AI Will Revolutionize Education and Make Guided Learning Accessible to More Than Just the Rich

Khan Academy Founder Discusses How to Personalize and Equalize Education With AI Technology

Salman Khan, photographed at a TED Talk in 2011. (Photo: Steve Jurvetson via Wikimedia Commons, CC BY 2.0)

For the past decade, Kahn Academy has been a leader among education non-profits. By producing thousands of videos on topics ranging from kindergarten counting to LSAT logic problems, the organization promotes a free, excellent education available to all. Help in algebra and trig, social studies and math, all meet the student where they are at. As impressive as Khan Academy's educational offerings already are, the organization's founder Sal Khan believes the expanding world of artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to an even more personalized experience. In a recent TED Talk, Khan gave a demonstration of the possibilities with their new chatbot, Khanmigo.

The TED Talk comes in the midst of a raging debate about the future of AI, especially all-knowing bots such as ChatGPT. Teachers, administrators, and commentators are realistically concerned that AI may enable students to skate by actual learning at best and cheat at worst. While Kahn acknowledges the need for guardrails, he paints an exciting picture of a massive development in education if AI is used responsibly. In fact, it can be a personal tutor uniquely tailored to every student's needs. Based on studies stretching back to 1984, Kahn notes this could dramatically shift the bellcurve of student achievement higher.

Problems of scale have held back achieving this reality. However, Khan introduced Khanmigo. Looking like the little paperclip that used to dance across Microsoft Word docs, the bot opens a chat function. The bot can help students work through a problem step by step, b...

Capturing the Soul of a Guadalajaran Architect in LA "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

LOS ANGELES The architect and engineer Alejandro Zohn may be the most influential person to shape public space in Guadalajara, Mexico, but beyond its borders, few know about him. The MAK Center for Art and Architecture introduces him to Los Angeles with Seeking Zohn, an enigmatic exhibition that reveals similarities between Zohn and R.M. The exhibition isnt a straightforward survey of Zohn. Instead, curators Mimi Zeiger, an LA-based critic, and Tony Macarena, the pseudonym for the Mexico City-based design team of Lorena Canales and Alejandro Olvarri, commissioned six artists to respond to his body of work. Reclaiming Agency Over Trauma "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island Plates clack in the darkened David Winton Bell Gallery at Brown University. Deceased Mom Becomes Posthumous Celebrity After Her Kids Publish Her Witty First-Person Obituary "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Deceased Mom Becomes Posthumous Celebrity After Her Kids Publish Her Witty First-Person Obituary

A woman named Sybil Hicks died peacefully on February 2, 2023, at the age of 81. When she passed, her children knew that not just any obituary would do. Their mom had been living with Alzheimers for years, and the person they once knew their mother to bequick-witted and outspokenwas shrouded by the disease. The siblings decided to honor their mothers memory by writing a humorous (and often biting) first-person obituary.

We just thought that when she passed, we really didn't want to have this sort of boilerplate template obituary, Brian Hicks, the second oldest of Sybils five children, explained. He and his sisters Barbara and Brenda wrote the obit, which was as humorous as it was heartfelt.

It begins with a gentle jab at her husband, Ron. It hurts me to admit it, but I, Mrs. Ron Hicks from Baysville, have passed away, her children wrote. I leave behind my loving husband, Ron Hicks, whom I often affectionately referred to as a Horse's Ass.'

In Sybils voice, the obituary goes on to poke fun at each of her children. I also left behind my children whom I tolerated over the years; Bob (with Carol) my oldest son and also my favorite. Brian (with Ginette) who was the Oreo cookie favorite, Brenda AKA Hazel' who would run to clean the bathrooms when she heard company was coming. Barbara (with Gordon) the ever Miss Perfect and finally Baby Bruce who wouldn't eat homemade turkey soup because he didn't want to be alert looking for bones while he ate.

The writing is full of the type of inside jokes that only exists in families, and it ends with a great line: I finally have the smoking hot body I have always wanted having been cremated. That alone helped it go viral and introduced the world to the late and great Sybil.

While the obituary has made many people laugh, it has also proved healing for the family afte...

Santa Fes Center for Contemporary Arts Quietly Reopens "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

ALBUQUERQUE Northern New Mexicos cultural landscape changed last month when the Center for Contemporary Arts of Santa Fes (CCA) board of directors voted to permanently close the organization. That decision led to job loss for 14 full-time arts workers, including the centers first Native executive director Danyelle Means (Oglala Lakota), and the shuttering of an art space that served Santa Fe for over four decades. Five weeks later, with a board member-initiated fundraising campaign securing pledges and donations of over $300,000, CCA reopened in a purely cinematic capacity last Thursday, May 11.

CCAs closure was informed by a combination of factors, including pandemic mandates and protocols, shifting models of cinema distribution and consumption, evolving artist and donor demographics, and fundraising challenges that originated with the structural inequity of the nonprofit philanthropic model. In an interview with Hyperallergic in April, former CCA Deputy Director April Chalay also cited a lack of identity exacerbated by turnover in the organizations leadership team.

The new CCA is being led by general manager Paul Barnes, a retired documentary film editor and previous board chair. Along with film critic David N. Meyer and No Na...

Its pretty normal for parents to feel protective of their children. When it comes to criticizing or pointing out their faults, it tends to be one of those fine if I do it, but dont you dare situations.

At some point during the evening OP went to the bathroom and came back out to find the women basically a stranger confronting her son in the kitchen.

At one point I went to the bathroom, and the ladies were in the living room, calmly enjoying wine. When I came out, my sisters friend was in the kitchen, arguing with my son.

OP asked what was going on, and the friend replied they saw the kid going to get food and told him he needed to wait and ask permission first.

I asked her what she was doing.

She said my son went into the kitchen to get food, and she told him to wait until I came out of the bathroom to ask me for permission.

OP blew up, asking who the woman thought she was and why she felt it was ok to say anything to a kid she didnt know.

I stared at her for a second and then said who the f**k are you? You dont live here. He does. Who are you to tell him he cant go in his own kitchen?

Steve Messams Inflatable Installations Highlight How Landscapes and Architecture Shape Communities and Culture "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

An inflatable sculpture on a parking garage entrance in The Hague.

Crested (2023), The Hague, The Netherlands. All images Steve Messam, shared with permission

Whether coaxing new life from abandoned structures in expansive landscapes or drawing attention to modest urban elements, Steve Messam provokes shifts in perspective and new ways of seeing our surroundings. The County Durham-based artist creates site-specific, inflatable installations that recontextualize ruins, statues, or stately architecture into temporary public sculptures. Working internationally, many of his projects also focus on locations around his home in the North of England, drawing attention to landscapes rich with history, relics of which are easy to overlook.

Messam plays with concepts of visual landmarks and follies in his series Architect of Ruins, spotlighting a handful of dilapidated remnants around Weardale and Teesdale, ranging from World War II pillboxes to disused railway bridges to crumbling industrial remains. By highlighting these often overlooked structures, the project aims to reveal the layers of narrative that make up the stor...

Love and Fear: A Stunning 17th-Century Poem About How to Live with the Transcendent Terror of Love "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Love bade me welcome; yet my soul drew back.

Love is both the tenderest mirror and the cruelest. How much and how well we show up for love reflects what we believe ourselves worthy of. What we desire reflects what we believe we deserve. What we long for reflects both our limitations and our restless yearning to transcend them. In loves mirror, we are revealed to ourselves, stripped of the egos flattering self-image, our vulnerabilities and inadequacies laid bare a revelation laced with the sublime, both beautiful and terrifying to the bone.

Art by Sophie Blackall from Things to Look Forward to

How to live with the transcendent terror of love is what the seventeenth-century metaphysical poet, priest, and musician George Herbert (April 3, 1593March 1, 1633) explores in one of his poems poems composed in the hope that they might turn to the advantage of any dejected poor soul. Reaching across space and time the way only art can, the poems final line went on to inspire the final line of Derek Walcotts superb Love After Love, composed nearly four centuries later.

Artist Transforms Thrifted Grandfather Clock by Fully Painting It Into a Cosmic Creation

Upcycled Grandfather Clock With Painting by Gavin Gerundo

Thrift store finds are full of possibilities. For some, they offer a new addition to their wardrobe. But for others, its just the beginning of an incredible project. Artist Gavin Gerundo recently shared photos of a grandfather clock he bought at the thrift store and how he completely reimagined its surface as a dynamic exterior. Using blue and green pigment, he painted a geometric design over every inch of the upright clock. The result transforms its wooden surface into a cosmic aesthetic that's out of this world.

The massive undertaking was created using acrylic paints and Posca paint pens. To make the surface suitable for painting, Gerundo sanded the varnish until he reached raw wood. He then prepared the surface with primer and got to work painting. The entire project took nearly 100 hours and is full of thoughtful touches, such as fluorescent dot codes at each hour of the clock. Gerundo also added a strip of color-changing lights to the inside of its face to infuse even more vibrancy into overlapping lines and intricate dot work.

Gerundo posted his handiwork on Reddit, where it has (understandably) gained a lot of attention. Most love the transformation of this mass-produced clock from the early 2000s, but some are shocked that he would paint over real wood. Even those who dont agree with the choice to paint over hardwood, however, still acknowledge how great it looks.

Scroll down for more photos of the clock, then follow Gerundo on Instagram to see what hes working on next.

His Nephew Lost His Expensive Electric Scooter. How Far Should He Take The Punishment? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Its tough enough when things we treasure are stolen, but when things are stolen in a way that could have been totally prevented?

It can really get under your skin.

OP has a cool (and expensive) electric scooter that he uses to commute and for fun. His nephew also thinks its cool, but OP has expressly forbidden him to use it, as it has been modified to go pretty fast.

Last year I bought an EMOVE Cruiser electric scooter which Ive since modified to add more speed, a new handlebar and some other mods. The scooter itself was not cheap, at $1500, plus mods puts it over $2000.

My nephew has always asked me about my scooter and I told him that it isnt for kids because its extremely fast and Ive expressly forbidden him from riding it multiple times. His mother knows about this as well.

OPs sister and nephew were house sitting while he was out of town, as they often did, as they enjoy the change of scenery. When OP returned, he learned his nephew had not only ridden the scooter, but had left it unattended long enough for it to be stolen.

I have a sister (43f) and a nephew (13m) who I always let house sit for me while Im out of town on business. I have pets and plants that I need taken care of and they always welcome a change of scenery. So I had to go on a business trip last month for a week and let them house sit.

Well, I come back from my trip and my sister tells me that Im going to be mad, but my nephew took my scooter out, left it unattended and had it stolen. I was f**king pissed and asked them to leave.

He wants them to replace it immediately. They say they cant afford it, and the only way they could do it is to de...

Lavish Scenes Glorify the Female Figure in Olivia De Bonas Straw Marquetry "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A straw marquetry work of a woman surrounded by plants wearing a large hat

Lheure Rouge. All images Olivia De Bona, shared with permission

Through glimpses of elegant interiors lush with plants, Paris-based artist Olivia De Bona celebrates the beauty and contours of the female body. Her straw marquetrythe process of applying thin layers of material (usually veneer) to a surfaceadds natural texture, variegation, and historical relevance to such intimate and decadent scenes. Referencing Romanticism and the Vietnamese wood carving traditions of her ancestors, the works require patience, and an incalculable number of hours, that allows me to dive out of time and brings me back to something very concrete, real, far from the famous, facing myself and in tribute to all the women artisans to the forgotten work, the artist says.

On view now at BEERS London, De Bonas latest body of work reckons with voyeurism, implicating the viewer from the outset. Sensuous and heavily stylized, the pieces largely depict nude women unaware and in a moment of passing, shown through elements like a hidden passage, a doorway, a transition from one state to another where we can peek at what is hidden and what is revealed, the artist shares. The exhibition is titled Le Panache, a term that today indicates flamboyant confidence and that historically denotes an elaborate headdress, the latter of which is recalled in the fiery red feathers of &#8220...

The Dress Diary of Mrs. Anne Sykes "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Anna. Three dresses when in mourning for her mother. 1845. Photograph by Kate Strasdin.

In January 2016 I was given an extraordinary gift. Underneath brown paper that had softened with age and molded to the shape of the object within, I discovered a treasure almost two centuries old that revealed the life of one woman and her broader network of family and friends. It was a book, a ledger of sorts, covered in a bright magenta silk that was frayed along the edge so that a glimpse of its marbled cover was just visible. The shape of the book had distortedit was narrow at the spine but expanded at the right edge to accommodate the contents, reminding me of my mums old recipe book, which had swelled over the years as newspaper cuttings and handwritten notes were added.

This book, measuring some twelve and a half inches long by eight and a half inches across, contained pale blue pages, which were unlined and unmarked. As I carefully opened the front cover and looked at the first page, my breath caught: this was indeed a marvel. Carefully pasted in place were four pieces of fabric, three of them framed in decorative waxed bordersthese were scraps of silk important enough to have been memorialized. Accompanying each piece of cloth was a small handwritten note inked in neat copperplate, including a name and a date: 1838.

As I turned more leaves, a kaleidoscope of color and variety unfolded. There were small textile swatchessometimes only two pieces at a time, and sometimes up to twelvecut into neat rectangles or octagons and pasted in rows that blossomed across each page. The notes were written above each snippet of fabric, sometimes curving around the shape of it. I knew from the outset that this was something precious, an ephemeral piece of a life lived long ago. It was a beautiful mystery.

The elderly lady who gave me the book explained to me what she knew of its provena...

Only 1,032 Addresses Control Over 60% Of All Litecoin (LTC) In Circulation "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

1,032 addresses control over 51.2 million Litecoin (LTC) in circulation, on-chain data from BitInfoCharts on May 15.

Litecoin Under Siege?

Records from the Top 100 Litecoin Rich List show that 7,355,585 LTC in circulation worth $639,814,097 are controlled by 8.78% of all registered addresses. At the same time, 26,526,499 LTC worth over $2.3 billion is managed by 111 addresses, while 17,993,930 LTC exceeding $1.5 billion are held by 918 addresses.

As of May 15, there were 72,924,127 LTC in circulation. So this concentration alone means over 60% of all LTC in circulation are controlled by 1,032 addresses. Furthermore, the network will only dispense 84,000 LTC to miners as block rewards.

Litecoin is a proof-of-work network like Bitcoin. It relies on a community of special nodes called miners to validate on-chain transactions and add them to the longest chain. For their participation, the lucky miner is rewarded 12.5 LTC per block every 2.5 minutes.

Litecoin Price On May 15| Source: LTCUSDT On Binance, TradingView

Based on the above statistics, whats notable is that the $2.3 billion of LTC at spot rates owned by 111 addresses represents the biggest concentration compared to any other range by address count.

To illustrate, 794,934 addresses holding between 0.01 and 0.1 LTC cumulatively own 29,508 LTC. With 794,934 addresses in this range, they are the highest number of LTC owners by wallet address count.

However, considering their total holdings, these addresses are a minority since whales currently hold over 60% of the total circulating supply. Specifically, there are three whales with over 2 million LTC as of writing on May 15.

The largest LTC whale holds 2,504,667 LTC worth over $217 million. This address is active and constantly accumulates. Of note, the largest LTC whales began accumulating within the last five years from 2018.

According to on-chain data by BitInfoCharts, the last time this address deposited LTC was on May 10, 2023. Meanwhile, the last withdrawal was in early January 2023.

For instance, the second largest LTC whale, with over 2.47 million coins, started depositing coins in mid-June 2022. He withdrew a por...

Bitcoin 2023 Is The Festival Of Humanity We Need As Technologys Grip Grows Stronger "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Nozomi Hayase, Ph.D., who has a background in psychology and human development. Disclaimer: Bitcoin 2023 and Bitcoin Magazine are both operated by BTC Inc.

With rising inflation and a growing number of bank failures, the dysfunctional nature of the fiat system becomes more apparent day by day. In the midst of this chaos, Bitcoin enthusiasts are staying calm, even generally hopeful about their futures.

As public trust in institutions weakens, governments around the world are gearing up for

central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) as a means of reasserting their authority over peoples money.

Thank God, we have Bitcoin!

Those of us who are fortunate to have found it are relieved that Bitcoin exists. As Christine Lagarde, the head of the European Central Bank once acknowledged, Bitcoin is an escape hatch from the financial surveillance state.

Bitcoin, the hardest money ever created, presents a real alternative to both current fiat currencies and CBDCs. Now, those who so choose dont have to go down the path leading toward a dystopian society. This might make us feel at ease. Some of you might think we can just HODL and maybe orange pill newcomers here and there, and simply wait for hyperbitcoinization. But I say, Not quite yet. We cant just sit back and relax.

We Bitcoiners have important tasks ahead: Bitcoin's battle against the fraudulent banking system is far from over. It is really only just beginning.

The Battle Is Beginning

Bitcoin, over the 14 years since its creation, has been slowly unveiling its revolutionary potential. Bitcoin is a form of digital gold that cannot be confiscated. As a saving technology, it provides inflation proofing, allowing us to store value securely. Its core feature of censorship resistance has also helped it to gain popularity, since the importance of having freedom money has become clearer to political dissidents and the oppressed the world over.

Now that the COVID-19 pandemic has wound down, and the...

Stablecoins Interest Spikes As Traders Look To Exit Market "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Data shows there has been a large spike in interest around stablecoins recently, a sign that investors of Bitcoin and other assets may be looking to exit.

Stablecoins Have Observed A Sharp Rise In Social Volume Recently

According to data from the on-chain analytics firm Santiment, there has been a major uptick in the social volume of the stablecoins recently. The social volume refers to an indicator that measures the total number of social media text documents that are talking about a certain topic or term.

The social media text documents here have been collected by Santiment and include a variety of sources like Reddit, Twitter, Telegram, and other internet forums.

Something to note about the metric is that it only tells us about the unique number of such posts that are mentioning the given term at least once. This means that even if a thread includes several mentions of the topic, its contribution towards the social volume will still remain only one unit.

The social volume can provide insight into the degree of attention any particular coin is getting on social media platforms. Whenever this indicators value goes up, it means that the general interest in the asset among investors is rising currently.

Now, here is a chart that shows the 7-day change in the social volume for the various assets in the cryptocurrency sector (including the stablecoins):

Stablecoin and Bitcoin Social Volume

As displayed in the above graph, the social volume of a lot of the volatile assets has registered a negative 7-day change, implying that there is a lesser amount of discussion happening related to them right now as compared to a week ago.

Some of the assets like Bitcoin have seen a positive 7-day change in the metric, but the increase has only been minuscule for them, implying that their social volume is relatively unchanged.

Interestingly, while the volatile assets may have seen decreasing or sideways-moving social volumes, the stablecoins have seen a completely different trend with the metric; their social volumes have sharply surged in the past week.

USD Coin (USDC), which is the stablecoin second only to Tether (USDT) in terms of market cap, has seen an extraordinar...

Investigating the Fever Effect on Children with Autism "IndyWatch Feed Health"

New Finding Shows Kids Exposed to Maternal Immune Activation and Later GI Dysfunction May Experience Behavioral Improvements During Fever Episodes

Israeli scientists recently set out to investigate the intriguing fever effect phenomenon that some children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) display. When neurotypical people develop a fever, they typically feel achy, tired, and grumpy. However, for some children with autism, a fever makes them feel better to the point where they become more social and alert. To learn more about this situation, the authors studied fevers that focused on the medical characteristics of probands (i.e., the first person in a family identified as possibly having a genetic disorder) and their family members. They discovered a strong association between familial characteristics, which may show an inherited or genetic component of fever response in ASD.  Notably, this research provides the first evidence that children with ASD exposed to maternal immune activation in utero and subsequently developed comorbid GI dysfunction are likelier to show improved behaviors during fever episodes. The authors suggest that pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-17, IL-6, and IL-2 pathways could be the reason behind this fever response. They also found that the fever effect may not only appear in autism but also other neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. The current studys findings suggest that future research should focus on circulating pro-inflammatory cytokine dynamics and their relations to fever and behavioral changes in children with neurodevelopmental disorders. These studies could advance the development of targeted treatment options for this ASD subtype and other immune-mediated neurodevelopmental disorders.

Early Exposure to Common Insecticide Linked to Increased Risk of Neurodevelopmental Disorders "IndyWatch Feed Health"

Pyrethroids, Chemicals Used in Homes and Yards, May Not Be as Safe as Once Thought

Researchers from the University of Toledo have recently released concerning new findings regarding pyrethroids, a prevalent type of insecticide. Their study indicates that early exposure to these manufactured chemicals could raise the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism, in children. Unfortunately, pyrethroids are ubiquitous in our environment and widely used for in-home pest control, landscaping, and mosquito fogging. Although pyrethroids are deemed safe by federal regulators, previous research has shown that the toxin can affect the brain when encountered during the early stages of development. The current study examined the offspring of female mice exposed to small doses of the insecticide before, during, and immediately after pregnancy. The team discovered that these young mice exhibited hyperactivity, repetitive behaviors, less vocalization, and were more likely to fail basic learning tests, behaviors consistent with neurodevelopmental disorders and autism. The study concludes that safe levels of pyrethroids need to be quickly reevaluated by regulators for all human exposure. However, a safety level reevaluation is especially important for pregnant women and children since the risk of neurodevelopment is highest in these two groups.

Ripple Transaction Count Down 65%, Will This Affect XRP Prices? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The number of on-chain Ripple (XRP) transactions on the XRPL is down 65% from 2.5 million on March 19 to less than 900,000 on May 14, 2023.

XRP Transactions Crashing

As of May 14, 2023, 852,000 transactions were processed by the XRPL, a decentralized blockchain network by Ripple Labs curated for fast value transfer. This represents a 65% drop from March 19 peak when the total number of transactions on the XRPL stood at over 2.5 million.

Notably, there has been no solid technical reason, such as blockchain or node vulnerability in the XRPL, during this period to explain the contraction in transaction count.

However, whats evident is that the crypto market has been under pressure in the last two months from March to May 2023. This might have contributed to the drop in the number of on-chain transactions.

On March 29, XRP prices peaked at around $0.58. This was 10 days after the XRP transaction count surged to the highest level on March 19. From the second half of March, however, transaction count and XRP prices have been falling.

XRP prices are down 27% to $0.42 as of writing on mid-May, down from $0.58 registered on March 29. However, whether XRP prices will continue to track lower, mirroring the number of XRPL transaction count, remains uncertain.

Overall, the number of on-chain transactions can directly influence transaction fees and prices. Moreover, it can provide insight into the level of demand for the cryptocurrency and the blockchain network. The more demand for the underlying networks token, the higher the trading volumes, and this upsurge can influence prices.

On the XRPL, users pay fees using XRP. Therefore, the higher the demand for XRP in transaction settlement, the more upward pressure there will be for the native currency.

The contraction in the number of XRP transactions is at the back of declining prices. Nonetheless, it should be noted that the drop in XRP prices wasnt an isolated event. Like the other crypto prices, XRP and top coins, including BTC and ETH, have been retracing from recent peaks registered in March and April 2023.

As an illustration, after surging to as high as $31,000, BTC prices have since dropped, falling to as low as $25,800 on May 12.

Meanwhile,  XRP is currently trading at $0.41, down from $0.58 posted in late March 2023.

Dogecoin Clone Doge CEO Skyrockets Nearly 200% As Meme Coin Mania Rages On "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Doge CEO, the cryptocurrency inspired by Dogecoin, has witnessed an extraordinary surge, skyrocketing nearly 200% in the face of an ongoing mania surrounding meme coins.

As investors continue to embrace the eccentricity and unpredictability of the crypto world, Doge CEO has emerged as a captivating contender in the market.

Fuelled by the same irreverent spirit that propelled Dogecoin to unexpected heights, Doge CEO has managed to capture the attention of investors searching for the next big hit in the realm of meme-inspired cryptocurrencies.

Doge CEO: Investor Optimism In The Meme Coin Revolution

The remarkable growth and upward trajectory of Doge CEO token exemplify the continued enthusiasm among retail investors for the burgeoning meme coin revolution.

In an astounding turn of events, the price of DOGECEO on CoinGecko has reached an infinitesimal value of $0.000000000007182, marking a surge of 4.9% in the last 24 hours and a staggering rally of 196.7% over the past week.

The Dogecoin clone has garnered attention from experts who consider it an opportune moment to establish significant holdings. Nevertheless, it is important to exercise caution, as the inherent volatility within the meme coin landscape warrants prudence.

The increasing popularity of the Doge CEO token demonstrates the lasting appeal of meme coins to individual investors. As these investors actively engage in the market, their strong inclination towards meme coins continues to be apparent.

With its status as a low-cap meme coin, DOGECEO has become a focal point for those seeking potentially lucrative opportuniti...

Food Collapse Incoming: Globalist War On Nitrogen Emissions Puts Entire Global Food Supply At Risk "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

This article was originally published by Arsenio Toledo at Natural News.

Governments all over the world are passing policies to deal with nitrogen emissions and these policies are putting the global food supply at risk.

The people pushing this so-called war on nitrogen claim that excess nitrogen in the environment is hazardous and pollutes the land, the water, and the air. They say it even depletes the ozone layer. (Related: Dutch government to seize up to HALF the countrys farmland under the guise of curbing nitrogen emissions.)

The United Nations is at the forefront of these claims, suggesting without evidence that nitrogen is not only a contributor to so-called climate change, but that nitrogen pollution is also somehow a threat to human health and is detrimental to the global economy.

Nitrogen is a primary nutrient essential for the survival of all living organisms on earth, admitted Leticia Carvalho, principal coordinator of the United Nations Environment Programs Marine and Freshwater Branch. But the world needs to wake up to the issues of nitrogen waste and the opportunities to take joint action for its sustainable use.

Sri Lanka, Netherlands leading the war on nitrogen

Two of the main nations leading the globalist war on nitrogen are Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.

In April 2021, the Sri Lankan government led by then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa banned the use of all chemical fertilizers in the small island nation of 22 million people.

Around a year after that decision, the government was forced by widespread protests to roll back the ban after it led to a rapid collapse in food yields, with some estimates suggesting an annual drop of at least 30 percent in paddy yields.

I cannot recall any time in the past when we had to struggle so much to get a decent harvest, lamented 65-year-old W.M. Seneviratne in the eastern Sri Lankan village of Agbopura at the time. Last year, we got 60 bags [of rice] from these two acres. But this time it was just 10.

Gem-Encrusted Creatures Encounter Otherworldly Ecologies in Jon Chings Vibrant Oil Paintings "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

An oil painting of a flamingo wading through some cacti.

A seahorse nestles in amongst cherry blossoms, and a cone of violet flowers morph from a glistening amethyst in Jon Chings uncanny ecologies. In jewel-toned oil paintings, the Los Angeles-based artists hybrid creatures sport regal headdresses or merge their bodies with gems and crystals. He often focuses on a central character in a contradictory environment, such as an owl among gourds, a flamingo wading between cacti in a wetland, or a bird hatching from a Faberg egg.

Recently, Ching started creating what he describes as quieter compositions, panning out from central portraits to unveil the enigmatic wonder of nature as a whole. Landscapes and the details of the animals surroundings take precedence and sometimes border on optical illusions, like the luna moths tucked in with ginkgo leaves in Nagamorphose or a dewy spider web made of diamonds in Arachnitite. Increasingly highlighting species that are misunderstood or get a bad rap, his new paintings are less about the animal itself and more about the beauty that exists in the world, he says in a recent article in American Art Collector, sharing that he wants to push back against our cultural biases about certain animals.

Many of these pieces are part of Chings solo exhibition Terra Brio at Haven Gallery on Long Island, which continues through June 4. He also just released a print edition of In Plain Sight, which you ca...

As The U.S. Faces Default On $31 Trillion Debt, The Case For Bitcoin Grows Stronger "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Robert Hall, a content creator and small business owner.

If you follow U.S. politics, you understand that the country is on the brink of defaulting on its massive $31 trillion debt.

At the crux of the issue is that there are Republicans in one corner, who control the House of Representatives with a slim 222 to 213 majority. In the other corner, the U.S. Senate and the White House, under Joe Biden, are controlled by Democrats.

Both parties are diametrically opposed to what the other wants. Republicans want to significantly cut spending in order to raise the debt limit for a year. Democrats want a clean debt ceiling bill passed without strings attached. As you can see, both parties starting positions are nowhere near each other. Ultimately, this has turned into a game of chicken based on who will blink first. Its all very tiring.

Is this the way a government should be run? It is absolutely crazy that these leaders would risk defaulting on money that has already been spent. This is like if you or I whipped out a credit card, went crazy buying all kinds of stuff, and did not make the monthly payment at the end of the month.

The government has been able to run up the debt for a long time because it has had willing participants, such as pension funds, hedge funds, sovereign wealth funds and regular joes who lent them money by buying treasury bills because they believed they would be paid back with interest.

This has been the case for a long time, but now this arrangement is being called into question with the will they, wont they bull going on in Congress right now.

Seriously Broke

Are these politicians so detached from reality to think that, once the debt limit is breached and people stop getting paid what is owed to them, people will go right back to loaning them money?

If they do, they will demand even higher interest rates. The government cant even afford the rates we have now! What happens if the borrowing cost for the government goes to 10...

Dogecoin Sees Highest Transactions Count Ever Due DRC20 Madness "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Bitcoin Inscriptions craze is spreading to Dogecoin. The number of transactions that the Dogecoin blockchain has had to process in the last few days have risen to an all-time high, mainly due to the new DRC20 token standard.

DRC20 tokens on Dogecoin are an experimental token standard that works similarly to the minting and transfer of fungible tokens via the Ordinals protocol on the Bitcoin blockchain. Technically, this is possible because Dogecoin was created by inventor Billy Markus forking Lucky Coin, which is itself a fork of Bitcoin.

Dogecoin Transactions Surpass All-Time High By 3x

In the last 7 days, the number of transactions recorded on the Dogecoin blockchain have skyrocketed. Before the DRC20 token standard was created, the Dogecoin network recorded no more than 23,754 transactions per day throughout May, according to data from BitInfoCharts. Last Saturday, May 13, Dogecoin saw a staggering 628,209 transactions.

To put that in perspective: The highest number ever recorded before this new alltime-high was on December 20, 2013, when the network processed just 201,440 transactions. In comparison, the total number of transactions that took place on Saturday (628,209) is more than three times the historic high from 2013.

The madness first started rolling on Tuesday, May 9, when the transaction count doubled to over 40,000 and remained at that level over the next three days. On 11 May (Thursday) the Cambrian explosion occurred when the number of transactions rose above 450,000 for the first time. The sudden surge in transactions is mainly due to the registration process used to create the Doginals and DRC20 tokens.

DRC20 And Doginals Spark Controversy

In response to the emergence of DRC20 tokens, many members of the community enthusiastically began exploring and minting these tokens. However, Dogecoin core maintainer Patrick Lodder has little enthusiasm for the new trend. Json doginals minting scams,...

PEPE Outperforms Bitcoin In Social Media Buzz, Triggers Bullish Run For Frog Coin "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Pepecoin (PEPE) has recently gained significant attention on social media platforms, outperforming Bitcoin in terms of buzz and hype.

As the cryptocurrency market continues to evolve rapidly, the power of social media in driving prices and market sentiment cannot be underestimated.

With Pepecoin generating a surge of interest and excitement among investors and traders, the question now arises: could this trigger a renewed bullish run for PEPE?

Pepecoin, named after the popular Pepe the Frog meme, has emerged as a promising new player in the cryptocurrency space. Its community-driven approach and unique branding have attracted a loyal following, which has helped it gain traction on social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit.

Pepecoin (PEPE) Emerges As A Social Media Darling

Pepecoin (PEPE) has taken the cryptocurrency world by storm, surpassing Bitcoin and other popular digital assets in terms of social media buzz. This newfound attention has triggered a surge in discussions and mentions of PEPE on various social media platforms, as tweeted by LunarCrush, a leading social analytics platform.

These Things Are Way Older Than Most People Think "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The way technology is and how quickly the world changes, I think its easy to assume everything we see and touch isnt that old.

Some things are, though, and if youre thinking these handful of things havent been around long at all, youre sorely mistaken!

We still havent gotten it right.

The electric car.

What is likely the first human-carrying electric vehicle with its own power source was tested along a Paris street in April 1881 by French inventor Gustave Trouv. The first crude electric car was built in the 1830s but it was essentially a semi-functioning model.

The electric car was a direct competitor to gasoline powered vehicles until the 1920s when roads got better, people started driving further than the range of an electric car, and the world started finding major oil reserves.

18th century soda.

The first carbonated drink to be sold to the public was invented by Swiss watchmaker and amateur scientist J. J. Schweppe in 1783, who sold his delicious sparkling water to thirsty customers in Geneva.

In just seven years, he was doing business so fast that he moved the factory to London and introduced a new flavor, sparkling lemon, to stand out from competitors who were trying to imitate his drink.

Go check them out for yourself!

Escalators have been around since 1859, though they were called rotating stairs.

Yet the US state of Wyoming still only has 2 of them.

The basics remain the same.

The Aux connector that we still use for headphones and speakers was invented in 1877.

There have been improvements since, but the basics of it are pretty much the same.

John Redwood wants to undo a non-existent ban on Imperial measures 14 favourite reactions "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

Just as collections of sporting gaffes were very popular in the 1990s, we suspect theres a market for a compilation of the spectacularly ill-informed takes of politicians. John Redwood the Tory MP for Wokingham would have at least one chapter all to himself.

Kemi Badenochs announcement that the government wont repeal the EU rules and regulations en masse seriously rattled his cage and we thank the gods of comedy for the result.

Even while the UK was part of the EU, it wasnt illegal to sell in pounds and ounces, just like it wasnt illegal to have a crown on a beer glass. It was simply a requirement to have the metric measurement available alongside the Imperial.

Its obviously unreasonable to expect a sitting MP who helps shape the laws of the land to know what they are.

A consultation on the use of Imperial measures, implemented by Jacob Rees-Mogg, has been criticised for asking the pubic

If you had a choice, would you want to purchase items:

Bitcoin Tweets Surpass Dogecoin Despite Meme Coin Craze "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Data from BitcoinInfoCharts, an analytics platform, shows that there are far more tweets about Bitcoin than Dogecoin despite the spike of meme token activity in the past month.

Tweets About Bitcoin Exceed Those Of Dogecoin

As of May 14, there were over 200,000 tweets related to Bitcoin. In contrast, users only posted roughly 4,800 tweets about the first meme coin, Dogecoin. Whats interesting is that this trend has been constant even with the spike in meme token activities over the past month.

Bitcoin is the first blockchain project and the most valuable cryptocurrency that some governments have adopted. Trading at over $27,000 as of May 15, the coin dominates the crypto scene. It has remained resilient even in the recent crypto winter.

As dominance data shows, Bitcoin is preferred by traders despite the rise of meme tokens like Pepe Coin (PEPE) and Dogecoin.

For context, after rising to as highs as $0.70 during the last bull cycle, Dogecoin prices plunged by over 90% throughout 2022, falling to as low as $0.05.

Dogecoin Price On May 15| Source: DOGEUSDT On Binance, TradingView

During the last Bull Run, between April and May 2021, there were more tweets about Dogecoin than Bitcoin. For instance, as of April 16, 2021, there were 3,000 tweets about Dogecoin than Bitcoin. However, this was the last time there were more tweets about Dogecoin than Bitcoin.

Since then, the number of Dogecoin tweets has fallen, following DOGE prices which also began crashing in May 2021. And although Bitcoin prices peaked at over $69,000 in November 2021, they also contracted in subsequent months, dropping to as low as $16,000 in late 2022. Still, there were more tweets about Bitcoin than Dogecoin throughout the bear market of 2022.

Fortunately, DOGE and BTC prices have since recovered from the pits of 2022. DOGE prices rose 115% from H2 2022 lows to $0.105 in April 2023. At that time, BTC rallied from below $16,000 to as high as $31,000.

Tweets Arent Everything

Typically, the number of tweets about a cryptocurrency project can be used to measure popularity. The more there are tweets related to a crypto project, the more likely that it could be trending and that the crypto community is engaging with the platform.

Even so, in most cases, considering the misuse of bots, the credibility of those tweets should be questioned. Depending on the popularity of projects, some rogue actors can be paid to spam the platform, incre...

Hyperbolic Tapering off Antidepressants Limits Withdrawal "IndyWatch Feed Health"

In a new study, researchers Jim van Os and Peter Groot found that when trying to discontinue antidepressant use, a process of hyperbolic tapering reduced the likelihood of withdrawal. Withdrawal symptoms were further reduced by slowing down the process and tapering in small daily steps rather than in large decreases every week.

Reached for comment via email, Groot wrote:

Our research confirms what patients have known and been trying to achieve for decades. That reducing the dose gradually enough and in small steps gives the body enough time to get used to the slowly decreasing dose and prevents complaints due to withdrawal.

Since a variety of factors can influence antidepressant withdrawal in complex ways, they suggest that the specific, individual process of tapering should be monitored and adjusted in a personalized manner. The authors write:

The demonstration of multiple demographic, risk, and complex temporal moderators in time series of withdrawal data indicates that antidepressant tapering in clinical practice requires a personalized process of shared decision making over the entire course of the tapering period.

Antidepressant withdrawal is common in those trying to get off the drugs and can be severe in up to half of those who experience it. The UK NICE guidelines now acknowledge the potential for severe and long-lasting antidepressant withdrawal. Researchers...

Compromised survey data leads to article retraction and university investigation "IndyWatch Feed Health"

An article based on results from an online survey has been retracted for data issues, and an Australian university is investigating what happened.

The article, International nursing students perceptions and experiences of transition to the nursing workforce A cross-sectional survey, became available online on Jan. 29, 2022.

Published in the journal Nurse Education in Practice, the study reported 110 responses to an online survey of nursing students who came to Australia from other countries and planned to remain there to work.

The retraction notice, posted this month, stated:

This article has been retracted at the request of the authors because the data reported in the manuscript are likely to have been compromised. It came to the co-authors attention after the publication of the article that a large proportion of the surveys reported in the study had been completed by a respondent using the first authors IP addresses.

The authors would like to apologize to readers for this error.

Della John McKitterick of the University of South Australia, and the first author on the paper, seemed to dispute the information in the notice.

One of the respondents has used my username (not my IP address) to enter the data, McKitterick told us. McKitterick, whose ORCID profile indicates she is a PhD student at the university, did not tell us how she learned of the data breach or respond to our follow up query about the discrepancy between the retraction notice and her statement regarding the IP address.

The University of South Australia is investigating the matter, which McKitterick cited as her reason for not divulging further details. None of the articles other authors replied to requests for comment.

Shiba Inu Coin Holders Hit Hard As 80% Of Addresses Smothered In Red "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Shiba Inu is causing significant losses for its investors. Recent data reveals that the hype surrounding SHIB, the once darling of the meme coin industry, may have led many investors astray.

At the time of writing, a staggering 80% of all Shiba Inu token address holders are experiencing losses on their holdings, a fact that is causing concern among cryptocurrency enthusiasts and investors alike.

Despite the initial excitement surrounding Shiba Inu, it appears that the reality of the situation is starting to set in for many investors.

With such a high percentage of token holders not expected to make any kind of money as of yet, it is clear that the hype train may have been running a little too fast.

This sharp downturn in the market has left many crypto capitalists wondering what happened and whether their investments will ever recover.

Shiba Inu Token Holders Suffer Losses, Data Shows Addresses Unprofitable

New data from IntoTheBlock indicates that the majority of Shiba Inu token holders are experiencing losses on their holdings.

As of now, four out of five SHIB investors are holding unprofitable addresses, equating to 991,440 addresses with 497 trillion tokens valued at around $4.4 billion. This leaves only $668.4 million worth of SHIB that is currently profitable to its holders.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that many of these unprofitable addresses purchased SHIB at the $0.000009 to $0.000014 price range.

According to data, there are 348,170 such addresses, holding an enormous volume of 281.12 trillion SHIB.

At present, the Shiba Inu token is ranked sixth among the largest cryptocurrencies in terms of the ratio of loss-making addresses to profitable ones.

Recent SHIB Prices Raise Concerns About Long-Term Holding

The current price of Shiba Inu token, listed at $0.00000892 per token on CoinGecko, is drawing attention due to its recent pricing history.

Ripple CLO Exposes How SEC Ignores Law And Brags About It "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The legal battle between Ripple Labs and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the US District Court of Southern New York is still awaiting a ruling from Judge Analisa Torres. Just last week, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse downgraded expectations, stating that a ruling would likely come in two to six months rather than the first half of 2023.

However, this is not stopping Ripples Chief Legal Officer (CLO) Stuart Alderoty from continuing to attack the SEC and expose its unlawful legal practices. Via Twitter, Alderoty shared a court decision over the weekend that shows just that.

Ripple CLO Exposes Unlawful Guidance By SEC

Specifically, it concerns the common enterprise issue that is a component of the Howey test. The Ripple CLO writes that in the 1946 Supreme Court case Howey, the SEC unsuccessfully tried to pull off a trick that it is unpacking again today. At the time, the SEC wanted to enforce that an investment in a common enterprise was not required as long as there was a common interest.

The SEC was wrong then and it is wrong now. Common Interest Common Enterprise, wrote Alderoty, who also shared the text of the writ. XRP community attorney John E. Deaton added that the SECs framework for digital assets ignores just that:

The SEC is so arrogant that it ignores the law and brags about it.

The SECs website, where the Framework for Investment Contract Analysis of Digital Assets can be found, states that in order to satisfy the common enterprise aspect of the Howey test, federal courts require that there be either horizontal commonality or vertical commonality (Revak v. SEC Realty Corp.).

The Commission, on the other hand, does not require vertical or horizontal commonality per se, nor does it consider a common enterprise to be a distinct element of the term investment contract.

On that basis, Alderoty said in a follow-up tweet:

The Revak case exposes yet another SEC sleight of hand. Without a common enterprise it matters not whether the fortunes of investors are tied to the efforts of others. The Howey test is not so easily satisfied.

Whether Judge Torres will agree and rule in Ripples favour remains to be seen. The pressure on the judge is likely to be int...

US DoJ Goes After Rogue Exchanges As Crypto Crimes Grow Significantly "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Eun Young Choi, the first director of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), has told reporters that crypto-related crimes have risen significantly in recent years. Through her team, the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) now plans to go after rogue exchanges that knowingly allow criminals to launder money.

NCET Wants Exchanges To Be Compliant

The Financial Times reports that Choi is concerned about the spike in crypto-enabled crimes and is setting their eyes on cryptocurrency exchanges, mixers, and tumblers.

Open-source token mixers such as Tornado Cash, a protocol that United States authorities have already sanctioned, are widely used by criminals to launder stolen assets. Because they make it hard for authorities to trace transactions on public ledgers, hackers are actively exploiting these tools to obfuscate transactions and evade justice.

NCET and the DoJ will go after crypto companies that, though compliant with existing laws on paper, have allowed themselves to be used by criminals; a development that Choi says is problematic.

By targeting these rogue agents, the director said they would send a deterrent message and hope their involvement would have a multiplier effect.

Specifically, NCET seems to have a problem with cryptocurrency exchanges that skirt anti-money laundering rules and those which dont comply with know-your-customer (KYC) laws. The enforcement team says going after them could make them invest more in risk-mitigation procedures and comply more with existing rules.

Binance, the worlds largest cryptocurrency exchange, is reportedly one of the exchanges on the radar of the DoJ. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the DoJ, among other agencies, including the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is investigating the Changpeng Zhao-led exchange for violating established rules.

US Governments Position On Crypto

President Joe Bidens administration has taken a relatively tough stance on cryptocurrencies. Regulators in the United States have been in recent months going after companies they deem to be non-compliant, especially after the collapse of FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange.

The position adopted in the United States, especially on regulation and enforcement, could be one of the strictest in the world. Several officials and policymakers in the country strongly believe cryptocurrencies can pose a significant risk to the stability of their financial infrastructure, which could also impact national security.

In that regard, steps have been taken to increase overs...

The 3 Layers of Financial Preparedness "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

Author of What to Eat When Youre Broke and Bloom Where Youre Planted online course

As our banking system implodes all around us, you may be wondering how on earth we can be financially prepared for the future in a world where our national currency is at extreme risk. While its easy to say, Invest in precious metals, its also important to know that PMs, while important, arent your first layer of financial preparedness.

In this article, I want to talk about how to layer your financial preparedness to help yourself through the tough days ahead. Keep in mind that you may not be able to delve into every single layer, and thats absolutely fine you have to prep for your unique financial situation just the same way you prep for your unique living situation. Being realistic is the key.

Layer 1: Your financial foundation

The first layer is the foundation for the other layers. If you dont have this in place, then the others arent really extremely worthwhile.

To establish a basis of financial preparedness, you need to get your personal finances in order. This includes things like:

  1. Paying off debt/maintaining freedom from debt. Heres how to pay off debt fast.
  2. Having the supplies to go for a month or so without spending money these are your basic stockpile items like groceries, shampoo, laundry soap, pet food, etc.
  3. Establishing an emergency fund (we used to recommend a thousand dollars but at this point, it wont get you too far. I would suggest your bare minimum should be one month of your familys expenses.) Heres how to build one.
  4. Getting your budget to a manageable level you may need to cut your fixed expenses to do this.

If youre sensing a theme here, youre right. The first layer of financial preparedness goes back to the money-savvy wisdom of the frugal community. Get your expenses under control, reduce your output, and be prepared to go for at minimum a month without any additional money coming in.

Layer 2: Tangible essentials

Once you have your basics established, its time to move on to the next layer. This is where our passion for prepping comes in handy.

FBI Plant at Food Not Bombs Slowly Getting the Hang of Pronouncing Quinoa "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

PORTLAND, Ore. An undercover federal agent implanted in the nationwide food-sharing collective Food Not Bombs is finally making strides to learn the correct way to pronounce quinoa, confirmed volunteers who are completely unaware they are being surveilled.

Im doing my best to blend in with these people. Im volunteering with these hippies every weekend to help out a bunch of freeloaders who could just get a job, and I havent complained once, said the undercover federal agent. The toughest part is being exposed to all these new ethnic foods. I honestly think its criminal to serve this stuff. When I first showed up people looked at me funny because I was pronouncing it kwin-noah and I thought my cover was blown. But I have been watching a lot of vegan Youtube channels and I finally think Im pronouncing it right because nobody laughs at me anymore.

Local community organizers admit they have been suspicious of the man theyve known as Blake for over a year.

You know, a decade ago when quinoa was the hot new protein on the block it really wasnt unusual to hear all sorts of strange pronunciations of it, but after a few months of coming here every weekend it just seemed like Blake wasnt really getting it, said organizer Tara Gomez. I tried correcting him once but then he got kind of aggressive and started prying and asking personal questions about politics. Then he laughed and said something like Wouldnt it be funny if we blew up the courthouse? Ive kept my distance ever since then.

FBI Director Christopher A. Wray says the Bureau puts in extensive time to train all undercover agents in the field.

You know, its easy when we have a guy try to infiltrate the KKK or some drug-running motorcycle gang because most of the agents are intimately familiar with those worlds, said Director Wray. It becomes far more difficult when they have to blend in with these liberal whack jobs trying to make the world a better place for everyone. We train our agents about gender-neutral pronouns, consent, and racial tolerance, but we can only do so much. I just want to plant illegal firearms on these people and get my guys out of there as soon as possible.

At press time, the undercover agent was almost outed once again after he asked another volunteer if they listen to The Joe Rogan Experience.

Dive Bar Clearly Displays Cash Only Sign on Tiny Handwritten Piece of Scrap Paper Taped to Darkest Corner of Bar "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

PHILADELPHIA A local dive bar is making sure all customers are made aware of their payment policy with a helpful Cash Only sign handwritten on the smallest piece of scrap paper thats taped to the corner of the bar where all the lightbulbs are out, according to sources.

When the bartender said they dont take credit cards, I was like sweet, you guys mustve upgraded to Apple Pay, said patron Alex Schwartz. Then the bartender pointed to a scraggly Cash Only sign written in pencil that was clearly soaked in water at one point. Someone told me its really easy to see if you look at exactly 6:36 p.m. when the sun aligns perfectly and a thin sliver of light comes through the crack of the door. Totally my bad for missing it, I fucking guess.

Bartender Andrea Patterson remembers creating the sign.

I added a second, even smaller sign as backup. Some of the letters wore off so it only says Cas ly but there should be plenty of context clues, explained Patterson. Plus in those rare cases where someone doesnt carry large amounts of cash anymore, we now have an ATM that sometimes works. Its the one that says Lehman Brothers Bank and it has a small convenience fee of $25.

Owner Max Retner takes pride in the work hes done to keep the bar authentic.

I remember when I first heard of this new technology called credit cards. The year was 2016 and I thought it would never catch on. And it didnt, said Retner. We strive to make sure we always stay behind the times here. Its not easy ensuring that one toilet is always broken and half the lightbulbs are out. Were currently looking to downgrade our register to a mechanical one that gets jammed and all of the buttons are worn down so its impossible to train new staff.

At press time, Schwartz was seen trying to peel his boots off the recently re-stickied floor.

Inside the Ironic ICP Fan to Earnest Juggalo Pipeline "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

I walk into a dark room. Sitting on a chair in the shadows is a man with a painted face. Hes asked to remain anonymous, for safety reasons, he preferred to go by his Juggalo name Sexy Dead Bitch. Im here today to discuss a sensitive issue, one many would rather keep quiet. This man is going to be my guide inside the ironic ICP fan to earnest Juggalo pipeline.

SDB was not always the painted face Faygo consuming Juggalo that sits before me today. He used to be just a college student when the video for Miracles came out. He thought it was so funny that these harlequins didnt know about magnetism, and made fun of them with his friends. Sure, it was funny to say that Violent J looks like Guy Fieri if he had less self-respect, that got a laugh from his friends. For them, that was enough. For Sexy Dead Bitch, his ironic obsession had just begun.

SDB tells me about his first time going to an ICP concert. He convinced his roommate to go with him, it would be so funny to go there and make fun of these face-painting idiots. Wouldnt it be hilarious if we painted our faces too? They went to the concert, indistinguishable from any other Juggalo. Only a strange thing happened. SDBs roommate was making fun of the Gander Mountain employees at the show when SDB didnt find it funny anymore. These folks understood something deeper, the fact that we are all just living in the Dark Carnival, and Shaggy 2 Dope was the only one brave enough to talk about it.

The next day SDB had a craving for Faygo that he couldnt control. He drank liters of it before noticing he hadnt cleaned off his face paint from the night before. And why should he? This was his new face, his true face. From that day forward he presented an encyclopedic knowledge of all states age of consent. He had become a true Juggalo.

I sat across from Sexy Dead Bitch with my mouth hanging open. I offered to bring in a scientist to discuss his transformation, but he affirmed that he didnt want to talk to a scientist because those motherfuckers lie and make him pissed.
