FAQ About this Chicken Coop

How do I Insulate? - There are many different ways to insulate.  The ceiling can be insulated with foam board, and attach with foam board fasteners to keep in place.  The floor can be insulated with a thick layer of straw.  Walls can be insulated with reflective insulation rolls, cardboard, or foam - but may need 1/4" plywood overtop to prevent chickens from pecking at.  Doors can be covered in blankets for the winter.  Avoid an airtight seal, allow the coop to breathe.

Can I make double wide?  Yes, you could easily add 36" to the width to create a double sized coop and use two sheets of tin on the top.  I would love to create a plan if there is enough interest.

Is this heavy?  Yes, it is heavy.  My husband and I were able to move it, but it was not easy.  I would suggest a couple more hands to help move it.  Consider prefabbing up the panels in the garage, then assembling the pieces at the long term home of the chicken coop.

Will it blow away in the wind?  If you live in a high wind area, don't orientate it broadside to the prevailing wind direction.  It is sturdy and I would be surprised to see it blow over.

What type of wood should I use? Douglas fir for the 2x4s is a good choice, a good balance between cost and longevity.  Douglas fir can last almost as long a ceda...

AVAX Enters The Green Zone After Losing Gains As Bulls Gain Momentum "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

AVAX is trading in the $15 price range today, continuing its weeks price volatility. The bears seized control of its price action from April 19, 2023, forcing it down to $18.99. Since then, AVAXs volatility has placed it between $17 and $15 as the bulls seek to regain control.

Notably, its trading volume is up by 34.13% in the last 24 hours despite the price fluctuations in the market today. It also recorded price gains earlier today, May 9, before dipping again by over 3%.

AVAX Price Analysis

AVAX has resumed a downtrend as the bears and bulls compete to control the market. It is trading below its 50-day and 200-day Simple Moving Averages (SMA), with bearish sentiment in the short and long term.

Related Reading: Bitcoin To Drop Further? Whales Show Signs Of Dumping

Also, the Relative Strength Indicator (RSI) is 35.84, close to the oversold region of 30 and bearish. However, the RSIs direction is sideways, suggesting that the bears and bulls are even.

AVAXs Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) is below its signal line and shows a negative value confirming the prevalent bearish trend in the market.

The current downtrend is similar to the previous trend between February 22 and March 13, 2023. If AVAXs RSI moves to the oversold region of 30, a retracement to the upside is possible.

AVAX encountered stiff resistance at the $17.67 level, sending the asset into a downtrend. Despite trading above the $16.35 resistance level yesterday, the bears pushed its price below the $15.85 support level.

AVAX Enters The Green Zone After Losing Gains, Are Bulls Coming To Rescue?

Since the $15.85 support could not hold, expect further decline for the asset to the $14.40 support if the bears persist. However, AVAX might rally if it enters into the oversold region.

Bull Bitcoin Launches No-KYC Purchasing Through Canadian Post Office "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Canadian Bitcoin exchange, Bull Bitcoin, has launched a new no-KYC (know-your-customer) service which enables users to buy bitcoin with cash or debit card. Users can go to any Canadian Post office, scan the QR code generated on the Bull Bitcoin app, and pay in cash or via debit card.

The funds are automatically added to the user's Bull Bitcoin account within a few minutes. Transactions of up to ~$745 ($999.99 CAD) can be made per transaction, with no KYC required. The exchange has a fee of 2% for no-KYC sats, the cheapest of any such service in Canada, according to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, while Bull Bitcoin's on-chain withdrawals remain free.

Canadian regulations state that Bitcoin exchanges must perform KYC and keep transaction records for all purchases above $1,000 CAD. Bull Bitcoin states that its privacy policy complies with the fair information principles in the Personal Information Protection and Electronics Document Act (PIPEDA), which prevents it from collecting information that is not needed for a legitimate purpose.

With no risk of chargeback for cash and debit card transactions, the company states that it has no legitimate reason to ask for KYC.

Bull Bitcoin aims to offer cash bitcoin purchases due to customer demand, and for those without access to bank accounts. The company also aims to attract migrant workers for remittances and users who want to limit the amount of personal information they give to trusted third parties. In addition, cash and debit card transactions are not subject to fraudulent chargebacks, unlike bank transfers and e-transfers. The process of funding accounts with cash or debit cards is also faster and more convenient.

Beautiful Botanicals Are Preserved as Meticulously Arranged Flower Press Art

Flower Pressed Studio Flower Pressed Art

The beauty of blooms is fleeting, but throughout history, we've found a gorgeous way to preserve them. Flower pressing allows us to enjoy the exquisite details of botanicals, from the petals to leaves to seeds. Flower Press Studio is dedicated to the centuries-old practice with lush compositions that celebrate florals while preserving them for prosperity. The brainchild of Rachel Parri and Keith Kralik, the couples most striking flower-pressed art showcases meticulous arranging that's reminiscent of a puzzle. Each bloom is perfectly placed in a way where its not touching another specimen but together still feels like a cohesive bunch.

Parri and Kralik began Flower Press Studio through an interest in gardening. When COVID-19 hit, they xeriscaped their front and backyard and planted flowers and vegetables along with two beehives. In the summer of 2021, Parris garden was producing a lot of blooms, and Kralik began pressing the flowers and building frames for them. Flower Press Studio officially began in October 2021.

Since then, the couple has preserved bridal bouquets (although they are shifting away from it) and are creating compositions to become limited-edition prints. They also intend to share their knowledge through online classes, coming in summer 2023. In the meantime, they offer advice for anyone who would like to try flower pressing.

If you are a flower enthusiast and enjoy colors and variety, you should check out your local CSA [community supported agriculture] or contact neighboring flower farms (if you have them), Kralik tells My Modern Met. You may learn a thing or two about flowers, you will support a family or very small business that puts in endless hours to produce sustainably grown and beautiful blooms, and you will walk away with more vibrant flowers.

Dear Mother "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

The Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, ca. 1880. Courtesy of Wikimedia Commons.

In the second half of the seventies, when I was in my twenties, I wrote letters home to Ireland from Barcelona. Early in 1976, for example, from my pension on the corner of Carrer de la Portaferrissa and Carrer del Pi, I described my first visit to the Liceu opera house.

Dear Mother,

The walls in this small, cheap hotel are thin. The man in the next room listens to opera on the radio. He looks like someone who has seen little daylight, but instead he has seen many operas, as he tried to explain to me in broken versions of several languages. Two days ago, he was waiting for me in the corridor. At first, I thought a fire had broken out or the police had, once more, attacked the people. He was saying something that clearly would require quick action on my part. Having calmed him down and got a dictionary, I realized that he had seen a production at the Liceu that was special, and he believed that I, as a matter of urgency, should see it too. It was Puccinis La Boheme, and it starred Montserrat Caball.

It was hard to know what to do when I went to the box office. Some of the prices for individual tickets would also buy you a studio apartment in the city. I bought the second cheapest type of ticket. When I showed it to my opera-crazed neighbor, he peered at it for some time, turned it around to check the back, and then shook his head. But this made no sense. It was the precise opera he had recommended, in the very venue he had suggested. What could be wrong with this ticket?

On the night in question, I arrived in good time. When I showed my ticket at the front door, I was directed to another door, less grand and auspicious, at the side. From there began a set of stairs that rose endlessly and grew narrower as they got higher. When, eventually, I found my seat, I discovered that I had no view at all of the stage, none. Standing up would not help, because there was not enough head room to stand up. Soon, others arrived and took up th...

Adorable Needle Felted Pup Portraits Burst From Picture Frames Into Real Life

Custom Dog Portrait

If you have a dog, you know that they are the best companions. Canines celebrate our happiest moments and also are by our side during the most difficult ones. Artist Anneli Kirby, aka AnneliFelts, commemorates beloved pups in her custom 3D dog portraits created using the needle felting technique. The portraits feature a front-on view of the subject done in a style that combines realism with Kirbys own artistic flair. Set into picture frames, the sculptures stick out past their edges to appear as though they are about to jump into real life.

Kirby began needle felting in order to create portraits of her own two dogs. I started off trying to make the little handheld sculptures that are popular with most felt artists and they didnt come out how I wanted, she tells My Modern Met, and I wasnt sure what to do with them. Wanting to add something fun to her gallery wall, she framed the pieces and liked the result. The combination of the dimensionality and anchored surface allow for an easy way to display the pet portrait while still allowing a rich view of the canine and the artist's handiwork.

Kirby has cultivated her own style by not trying to capture every detail of a dog. There are some incredibly realistic pieces created by some amazing felt artists and my pieces are more of a caricature, she explains. Some artists create wire frames to build on and it helps their sculpture exactly match the photo reference. I freehand my portraits so they are not as precise.

Instead, her aim is to highlight the intangible. My goal is to capture the personality of the dog while keeping my own style. I think I have developed the art so it is unique to me and I hope my customers appreciate that.

To get one of Kirbys custom portraits for yourself, check out her online shop.

A Reel-to-Reel Recorder Animates Wildlife Automata Using Carl Sagans Warning of Climate Disasters "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A new advertisement for the United Nations Global Compact, the largest corporate sustainability program in the world, recalls the nearly 40-year-old speeches of the prescient American scientist and cosmologist Carl Sagan. Famously testifying to Congress in 1985 to alert of the dangers of a warming environment, Sagan was an unflinching advocate for transitioning the world away from fossil fuels and protecting the planet for generations to come.

In Carl Sagans Message, the Brazilian production company Boiler Filmes and ad agency AlmapBBDO bring the scientists words back to life alongside a menagerie of wildlife automata. As a reel-to-reel audio recorder plays his speeches, a kangaroo, elephant, moose, and moreall of which were created by artist Pablo Lavezzaribegin to wiggle. Each is part of a larger installation, a fitting metaphor for the connection of all living beings.

Throughout the nearly two-minute ad, Sagan warns, Were doing something immensely stupidThe abundance of greenhouse gases is increasing. One degree of temperature change is enough to produce widespread suffering and famine worldwide. Unfortunately in 2023, the planet has already surpassed one degree, and we now face the immense task of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celcius. 40 years ago it was urgent, the ad reads. Now its an emergency.

Is the Next Bitcoin Bull Run Tied To The US Presidential Elections? Heres What History Tells Us "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin (BTC), the worlds first and largest cryptocurrency, has been associated with several bull runs over the years. One of the most notable uptrends occurred in 2012, and financial analyst and cryptocurrency expert Aditya Siddhartha has linked it to the United States of America (USA) Presidential Elections.

Why Does The US Presidential Elections Matter For Bitcoin?

According to Siddhartha, the 2012 Bull Run of Bitcoin was preceded by a significant drop in BTCs price, with a decrease of 52% observed in the market. However, after the moving average convergence/divergence (MACD) Bullish Crossover and all major exponential moving average (EMA) Bullish Crossovers, the market started to gain momentum, and the bull run began.

Bitcoin

In the case of BTCs 2012 bull market, the MACD and EMA indicators provided positive signals, leading to increased investor confidence and a surge in demand for Bitcoin. This resulted in a post-Presidential Elections bull run, with Bitcoins price increasing by 11800%.

On the same note, Siddhartha observed that in 2016, BTCs price experienced a drop of 41% in the run-up to the Presidential Elections. However, after the MACD Bullish Crossover and all major EMA Bullish Crossovers, the market began to gain momentum, and the uptrend started.

Following the Presidential Elections, Bitcoins price experienced a post-election bull run, with the price increasing by a staggering 2800%. This surge in price was driven by increased demand from investors and a growing awareness of Bitcoins potential as a store of value and digital asset.

In 2020, Bitcoin saw a significant drop of 22% before the presidential elections. This drop was largely due to the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the elections and the potential impact it could have on the economy and the stock market.

However, according to Siddhartha, following the Presidential Elections, Bitcoins price experienced a post-election bull trend, with the...

He Told His Niece Not Everyone Believes In God. Was He Out Of Line? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Parents have to make many personal choices when it comes to how to raise their children. Religion is on that list, even if the decision made is to raise kids with a lack of religion.

OP knows his niece is being raised pretty intensely Christian and doesnt love it. That said, they never said anything about it until the little girl stated they needed to pray before dinner at a third partys house.

Went to dinner at a family members house. My niece was there and said we need to pray before we eat.

She is 6 years old, but according to previous talks with her mother she has a great fear and love for Jesus still makes me cringe.

OP informed her that not everyone prays, to which she replied that people who dont are going to the bad place. So, they told her not everyone believes that either.

I told her not everyone prays, so she said her mom told her if you dont pray you are going to hell. I said I dont believe in any of that and that other people have different beliefs.

They said that while everyone is allowed to believe what they want, they dont think its ok to force those beliefs on others.

Its ok to believe in something but not okay to try and force it on other people.

I did NOT force my views on her, I simply told her that there are other beliefs out there.

The girls mom is angry and thinks he was out of bounds, but was he?

Now her mom is mad at me that I told her that. AITA?

Reddits got their answers coming!

The top comment thinks OP is a good influence, and hopes they dont get themselves kicked out of the kids life altogether....

Bitcoin Plunge Under $28,000 Only Temporary? This Metric Suggests So "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin has now plunged under the $28,000 level, but the data of an on-chain indicator may suggest that this drop could only be temporary.

Bitcoin Short-Term Holder SOPR Has Dropped Just Under The 1 Level

As pointed out by an analyst in a CryptoQuant post, the current values of the metric have generally served as ideal buying opportunities during rallies in the past.

The relevant indicator here is the Spent Output Profit Ratio, which tells us whether the average Bitcoin investor is selling their coins at a profit or at a loss right now.

When this indicator has a value greater than 1, it means the profits being realized in the market are currently greater than the losses. On the other hand, values below this threshold suggest a dominance of loss-taking from the holders.

The SOPR being exactly equal to 1 naturally corresponds to a neutral state, where the average holder is just breaking even on their investment, as profits are equal to losses here.

While the SOPR is generally defined for the entire Bitcoin market, it can also be applied to specific segments of the market. In the context of the current discussion, the short-term holder (STH) segment is of interest.

The STHs make up a cohort that includes all investors who have been holding onto their coins since less than 155 days ago. The STHs who manage to hold beyond this threshold enter into the long-term holder (LTH) group.

Now, here is a chart that shows the trend in the Bitcoin STH SOPR over the last few years:

Bitcoin STH SOPR

As displayed in the above graph, the Bitcoin STH SOPR was below the 1 mark during last years bear market, suggesting that the average STH had been selling at a loss in this period.

This is the typical behavior observed in bearish periods, as the constant price decline makes investors panic and sell at losses. An interesting pattern that is seen during such periods is that the line where SOPR attains a value of 1 starts providing resistance to the asset.

The reason this happens is that at this level, the STHs are selling at the price they boug...

Bitcoin Price In A Turbulent Week: This Crypto Market Strategist Weighs In "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin, the worlds largest and most well-known cryptocurrency, has had a tumultuous past few days, and according to Mike McGlone, a senior macro strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, the volatility in the BTC market could very well impact other risk assets.

McGlone believes that BTCs influence on the market has become contagious, and as a result, other risk assets could be negatively affected if the price of BTC continues to decline.

McGlones comments are a reflection of the growing awareness of BTCs influence on the global economy. As BTC continues to gain mainstream acceptance and adoption, its movements are being closely watched by investors and policymakers alike.

Risk Assets At Risk? Bitcoin Network Congestion Raises Concerns

At a time when the Bitcoin network is currently facing unprecedented levels of congestion due to the influx of Ordinals, McGlone has shared his views on the potential impact of Bitcoins price decline on other risk assets.

Over the weekend, the congestion became so severe that major trading platforms like Binance were forced to temporarily halt some transactions.

According to McGlone on Twitter, if the current decline in the value of risk assets continues, Bitcoin has the potential to lead the rest of the volatile asset class downwards.

He emphasized that the influence of Bitcoin on the market is now contagious, and its impact can be felt across the financial system.

In other words, if Bitcoins price continues to drop, it could trigger a domino effect that results in the decline of other risky assets.

Bitcoins Network Congestion, Volatility Raise Regulatory Concerns

McGlones comments regarding the potential impact of Bitcoins price volatility on the broader financial system come at a time when investors are growing increasingly worried.

The cryptocurrencys fluctuations could potentially have ripple effects on the global economy, underscoring the need for regulatory oversight.

Meanwhile, the current BTC price, as reported by...

Gizas Great Pyramid: Culmination of Ancient Egypts Architectural Marvels "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

The Unrivaled Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza, believed to be a colossal tomb for a pharaoh, stands as the zenith of ancient Egyptian pyramid construction. This awe-inspiring structure signaled the pinnacle of ancient Egyptian society over 4,500 years ago and marked a new era in temple building. Despite the grandiosity of the Great Pyramid, its construction process remains shrouded in mystery.

A Nations Feat The Unified Construction Effort

The construction of the Great Pyramid involved the entire nation, illustrating the well-developed society of ancient Egypt. The pyramids construction showcased Egypts thriving economy and well-coordinated logistics. Some stones, sourced from Aswan800 kilometers awayreached the construction site via boats, a testament to the skillful labor, supervisors, and transportation methods employed.

Staggering Statistics The Great Pyramids Dimensions

Encompassing 13 acres, the Great Pyramid comprises 2.3 million stones, totaling about 6 million tons. With 5.5 million tons of limestone, 8,000 tons of granite, and over 500,000 tons of mortar, this remarkable structure was completed within 20 years. The alignment with the compass points and the staggering weight of individual stonesaveraging 2.5 tonsunderscore the ancient civilizations extraordinary capabilities.

Mysteries Unraveled The Golden Ratio and Architectural Precision

Researchers discovered a relationship between the Great Pyramid and the golden ratio, with measurements showing minimal margin of error. The pyramids unmatched precision might have symbolized cultic significance, or it could have been a response to previous architectural mishaps in the pyramids of Meidum or the Bent Pyramid. The reasons for such precision remain a mystery.

Intricate Interiors A Labyrinth of Passages and Chambers

The Great Pyramid houses a labyrinth of unique chambers and passages, including ascending and descending passages, and air shafts not meant for ventilation. The structures interior beauty rivals its exterior grandeur, featuring elements unparalleled in pyramid evolution and architectural history.

Foundations Laid The Influence of Three Predecessors

Before the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Djoserthe first colossal stone building in Egyptmarked the beginning of the pyramid-building age. Sneferus Bent Pyramid at Dahshur, which exhibited a unique transitional form, and the Red Pyramid, Egypts first true smooth-sided pyramid, both contributed to the eventual construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Gizas Great PyramidA Testament to Architectural Progress

The Great Pyramid of Giza, made possible by the architectural advancements of previous pyramids, remains an unrivaled marvel of ancient Egypt. Its unmatched precision, intricate interiors, and...

How to Save Your Life and Those You Love When Hospitalized "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Story at-a-glance

  • Laura Bartlett and Greta Crawford have founded an organization to address the forced treatments patients receive when theyre hospitalized for COVID-19, but the same strategy can be used to protect yourself against other medical hazards as well
  • The Caregivers and Consent document they created is an advance decision document. So, the moment you enter the hospital, the hospital staff know what they can and cannot do to you; they are legally required to respect your current care decisions. And unlike an Advance Directive (which only kicks in when you are incapacitated) the Caregivers and Consent document goes into effect immediately
  • Its important to complete and notarize your Caregivers and Consent document BEFORE you ever need to go to the hospital
  • Make sure you send the completed, signed and notarized document to the CEO of the hospital in two ways: (1) via a professional courier (one that specializes in delivering legal documents); and (2) via the Postal system with certified mail, return receipt requested. The CEO is responsible for all legal business relating to the hospital, including the medical records, so the CEO, not your attending physician, is the one whose responsibility it is to get your consent document entered into your electronic medical record
  • Make at least 10 copies of the signed, notarized document and keep one copy on your person, in case you ever have an accident or acute illness requiring hospitalization. Also provide copies to the attending physician and nurse once hospitalized

The next wave of terror unleashed on humanity by the WHO "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The World Health Organization and the United Nations are two key players in the agenda for the submission of all of humanity to unprecedented tyranny. Their plans for mankind go far beyond the darkest nightmares of what anyone can even begin to imagine. Behind their brilliant masks of proclaimed humanitarian goals hides something so nefarious that many fail to believe it. This cannot be. Its impossible. There is no evil so horrible is there? In many previous reports, we have lifted the veil on their agendas for humanity. During the pandemic, we saw glimpses of their intensely dark plans: the WHO conducted "trials" in which they deliberately murdered thousands of people by administering non-therapeutic, lethal doses of hydroxychloroquine. One third of all involved patients died, and this data was then used to sell humanity the lie that this drug should be banned from all countries for the treatment of covid. While in reality, this proven and respected medicine saved the lives of millions worldwide who received the proper dosage.  The WHO also ordered all social media platforms to censor any and all truth about the pandemic - in particular, all information about working solutions, further hiding any life-saving answers from a suffering mankind. Thousands of scientists and physicians were silenced, resulting in the deliberate death of millions upon millions of people who could have easily been saved by one of the many effective treatments. Furthermore, the WHO pushed the tremendously destructive lie that an experimental, unproven vaccine was the only thing that could end the pandemic, causing the death of even more millions of people and the permanent disability of hundreds of millions.  In addition, the WHO's very launch of the pandemic was based on a fraudulent PCR test, whose o...

Is Your Money Safe During The Banking Crisis? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This is an opinion editorial by Brad Mills, host of the Magic Internet Money Podcast and an investor in several Bitcoin-focused projects.

Big banks are failing. Credit Suisse, one of the largest globally-systemic important banks (G-SIBs) in the world at $1.2 trillion in total assets, has recently failed, requiring a bailout from the Swiss central bank.

Before the era of quantitative easing (QE), Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility (TARF) and Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) bailouts, bank failures were common. Allowing excess risk to flush from the system is a healthy part of free markets. Almost 500 banks failed during the Great Financial Crisis (GFC).

During the last decade of QE, barely any banks failed while economists, central bankers and politicians have been continually and confidently assuring us that their stress tests are keeping the banking system sound.

Is it a coincidence that during the last decade, as governments, central banks and commercial banks worked together to expand the money supply faster and higher than ever before in history, that banks stopped failing?

Have banks stopped failing over the last seven to eight years because banks are safer and more conservative, or is it because record amounts of money printing and government bailouts have moved the risk from bank balance sheets to somewhere else, simply delaying the inevitable?

Did moving this risk from bank balance sheets to the central banks balance sheets via deficit spending, stimulus, QE and bailouts actually help keep your deposits safer, or has it actually caused wealth inequality to rise, debased the value of your savings account and contributed to high inflation rates which makes the dollars in your bank worth less?

the mean of bank failures anyway? Is there a way to protect yourself from the extremely-unlikely event of hyperinflation, or the more-likely event of a deflationary bust or continued high inflation due to governments printing money to...

Shiba Inu Unlikely To Reach All-Time High Again: Experts "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Shiba Inu price is currently in deep bearish territory. After being rejected at the 200-day EMA in mid-April (blue line) and breaking the ascending trend line on the 1-day chart to the downside on April 20 (black line), the SHIB price is now in free fall.

Yesterday, the SHIB price initially received support at $0.00000839 on the 1-day chart. However, if a trend reversal does not follow soon, the Shiba Inu price could drop towards the local low at $0.00000779 from December 28. This would erase all price advances since the beginning of the year.

For now, the RSI on the daily chart is at 24, in oversold territory. For the return of a tentative bullish momentum, the SHIB price needs to break the key resistance at $0.000010. Otherwise, a retest of the December 2022 low seems inevitable.

Will Shiba Inu Ever Reach Its All-Time High Again?

Even though the Shiba Inu price is extremely bearish at the moment, the meme coin still has one of the strongest communities hoping for better times once Shibarium and SHIB : The Metaverse are live on the mainnet. However, two well-known crypto experts and influencers have expressed their doubts today.

According to Mason Versluis, founder of crypto community Gold Squad, and Tony JRNY, founder of NFT project JRNY Club, the chances of SHIB reaching its all-time high of $0.00008845 from October 2021 again are slim. At the current price, that means Shiba Inu would have to rise over 930%.

Versluis wrote on Twitter, I am pretty confident $SHIB will never go past all time high again ($0.00008845) What do yall think?. Tony replied that there would have to be some groundbreaking utility and FOMO for this to happen. Versluis agreed and added:

Absolutely. I feel this with Doge too though and thats scary because I know people bought very high on that one.

Ethereum Gas Fees Skyrocket: What Does It Mean For Investors? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Ethereum, the worlds second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, is currently facing a significant issue: soaring gas fees.

Gas fees, also known as transaction fees, are payments made to miners on the Ethereum network for processing transactions. These fees have been rising steadily over the past few months, reaching record highs in recent days.

The situation has left traders and investors concerned about the long-term viability of the Ethereum network, as high fees could discourage users from utilizing the platform.

High Gas Fees On Ethereum Network Despite Transition To PoS

Based on a recent report by crypto analytics provider WhaleAlert, a single transaction on the Ethereum network cost a trader approximately $118,600 in fees, which translates to 64 ETH.

While high gas fees are not a new phenomenon on Ethereum, they have become relatively rare since the networks transition from the proof-of-work (PoW) to the proof-of-stake (PoS) protocol through The Merge

This shift was expected to reduce congestion on the network, but the current high gas fees suggest otherwise.

Possible Cause: Meme Coin Hype, Network Congestion

The recent spike in network activity is said to be a result of the meme coin craze (see chart below), which has created intense network activity, causing congestion during the weekend.

This activity reached its peak when Binance, a popular crypto exchange, listed PEPE tokens and Floki Inu for trading on its platform.

Meme coins are currently the dominating trend on the crypto market once again due to PEPE. After the furious price rallye of PEPE, investors are feverishly looking for the next meme coin that makes 100x.

Whether this trend will continue for much longer or if this marks a top for the crypto market remains to be seen. However, historically, the meme coin hype marked local highs for the Bitcoin price (and thus the rest of the market).

Whales Reveal All About Meme Coins Like PEPE

In a new Twitter thread, Frank Rotman, co-founder QED Investors, spilled the beans about meme coins. QED Investors is a leading VC in the fintech space and has AUM of $3.2 billion. The company has already invested $662 million in startups. So Rotman is well connected and knows what hes talking about.

In recent days, Rotman has spoken with traders who have put anywhere from $500 to more than $20 million into meme coins and their views are eye-opening, the venture capitalist says. The biggest insight was (although not shocking): Memes coins are a game.

The concept of the game, according to Rotman, is to attract as many other participants as possible to the list of game participants. Your goal is to convince people that being on the list is cool. Once people are on the list, they are expected to tweet funny images or diagrams to generate FOMO for the game.

However, the number on the list matters because members can sell new players as much or as little as they want, with prices fluctuating based on supply and demand. Ultimately, this proves that the founders and previous investors are the biggest profiteers from such a Ponzi scheme.

The answers Rotman has received are extremely revealing. Big investors are aware of the game. One anonymous person said:

Its a damn fun game once youre in it. You get to act like an idiot, annoy everyone around you...

What the Great Pyramids of Giza Originally Looked Like "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Ask anyone whos traveled to the Great Pyramids of Giza: no matter how many times youve seen them in photographs or on television, youre never really prepared to come face-to-face with them in real life. But you can get fairly close to at least the appearance of real life by seeing the Pyramids in 4k resolution, as theyre presented in the video above from travel, architecture, and history Youtuber Manuel Bravo (previously featured here on Open Culture for his explanation of Filippo Brunelleschis dome atop the Florence Cathedral). This isnt just vacation footage: Bravo tells the story of the Pyramids, puts them in context, and even incorporates virtual re-creations of what they would have looked like in their heyday.

We know the Pyramids as iconic ruins, undoubtedly mighty but also seriously dilapidated. When they were built in the 26th century BC, they were covered in white limestone exterior shells, giving them the strikingly smooth if chromatically reversed appearance of a 2001-style monolith a characteristic that no doubt encourages certain theorists who imagine the construction process as having been executed by beings from outer space.

California Defaults On $18.6 Billion In Debt, Saddling Employers With The Expense "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

By Travis Gillmore, California borrowed approximately $20 billion from the federal government to cover unemployment benefits during the pandemic, and with Gov. Gavin Newsoms recent decision to not pay it back, employers are now saddled with the expense, according to experts. The state should have taken care of the loans with the COVID money it received from the government in 2021, Marc Joffe, policy analyst at the Cato Institutea public policy think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C.told The Epoch Times. In the proposed 20232024 budget, $750 million was allocated to start paying down the loans, but Newsom made changes to the plan in January and withdrew the funding. The Epoch Times request for comment from Newsoms office was not returned on deadline. The decision leaves businesses in the state responsible for the loansas mandated by federal regulationsso the federal unemployment tax rate of .6 percent is set to increase by .3 percent annually, starting in 2023, until the loan is extinguished. California is just not really an employer-friendly state, Joffe said. This one thing will not be a difference between a business remaining open or closing, but its just another burden on top of the many burdens the state puts on employers. Twenty-two states borrowed money for unemployment insurance from the federal government during the pandemic, with all but fourCalifornia, Colorado, Connecticut, and New Yorkpaying back their debts. California owes the most, by far, with approximately $18.6 billion outstanding as of May 2, followed by New Yorks $8 billion, Connecticuts $187 million, and Colorados $77 million, according to U.S. Treasury Department...

Have You Ever Heard The Wedding Rule No Ring, No Bring? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

If Reddit has taught us anything, its that weddings are an opportunity to glean a persons true colors and that way too often, those colors are awfully ugly.

This OP has been in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend who is also a friend of the grooms since high school and they are emotionally solid. He says they are planning to marry eventually but are waiting until theyre in the place they want to be financially before taking that official step.

My (28m) childhood best friend Brad (28m) is getting married in late May to Vicky (26f). A week ago, on Easter I received his wedding invite which only listed my name but not my gf ,Mary (28f). For context, Brad, Mary and I have known each other since high school . We were in the same friend group. Mary and I live around 2 hours away from Brad and Vicky.

Because Mary is a nurse she doesnt always have the time to visit Brad and Vicky with me so I go alone most of the time but when shes able shell join me.

Mary has met Vicky and seen her around 10 times in the past 4 years that Vicky is with Brad. Mary and I have been together for 6 years total and we do plan on getting engaged and married once we are more financially settled.

When OPs invitation to his friends wedding arrived, only his name was on it and when he clarified with his friend whether or not his girlfriend was invited, he said no.

The reason? His fiancee was enforcing a no ring, no bring rule for plus-ones.

So I asked Brad if Mary is invited and they just forgot to mention her name to which he replied that Vicky is very strict about some rules and in order to cut down costs shes enforcing a no ring no bring rule for the wedding so since Mary is just a...

Unleash the Power of Your Heart: Emit 5000 Times More Light with This Simple Technique "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

According to a recent study conducted by German researchers at the University of Kassel, the human heart emits photons of light. While the chest area of an average person emits only 20 photons of light per second, those who meditate on their heart center and send love and light to others emit a staggering 100,000 photons per second. That is 5000 times more than the average human being.

The Goddess What you seek is seeking you "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

All Goddesses have a few traits in common. For one, they dont chase; they attract. They are magnetic to all sorts of blessings and happiness. Even if they embody the Archetype of the Goddess in a more Yang way, like Athena from the Greek Pantheon or The Morrigan from the Celtic Pantheon, they still attract their rewards more than catching them.
Another trait they all have in common, no matter their own individual qualities, is their fluid dialogue with their own intuition. No one holds spiritual authority over them. They have their own inner spiritual compass that they honor no matter what the circumstances may be.
They are receptive to the Divine. This is the case even if they take matters into their own hands and are proactive in the tangible world or even the battlefield. Divine guidance is their main counselor. They trust their own capacity to embody the Oracle.
Because of the patriarchal society that has reigned supreme until very recently in both the Western and Eastern worlds, the Goddess has been relegated to a second plane.
The Goddess Mala will help you reconnect to the Goddess within you. Regardless of your gender, the Goddess exists within you. This sacred principle has never left you, even if you have ignored it time and time again.
Before your spiritual awakening, you probably made choices out of fear. You hoarded things and money for fear of not having enough in the future. You didnt want to let go of people out of fear of losing them and being hopeless without them. You clenched to the way of life you knew because you feared who you would become the moment you let go of control. Humans live in fear of their own Divinity because they think that they cant control it.
Now, you are being called to make choices out of love instead of acting out of fear. This Mala necklace has found you to guide your way on this new journey. It combines the power of Rhodonite and Morganite.
Rhodonite reconnects you with love for what you d...

Ah, family. Theyre great (until theyre not), and when they start pitching fits after getting awesome stuff for free, they can really get on your last nerve.

OP and her husband have always been big Disney fans. They met while working at the park in college and continue to enjoy Disney things as adults, though she claims they are normal about it.

My (35F) husband (38M) and I are what you would call Disney adults. We used to work for the parks in college and met there. For us, it has sentimental value as well as being something we both loved from childhood.

Now, we are conscious to not be those Disney adults. We can hold conversations outside the movies and parks. We both work well paying jobs unrelated to the company. We have other hobbies and interests. Our son isnt big on Disney and were cool with that. It is just something that we enjoy, as well as our daughters.

We nurture all of childrens hobbies and interests. We also dont blow all our money on this stuff. I know I may sound overly defensive, but we get a lot of comments from people who dont know us well.

They live in a beautiful farmhouse and have a barn on the property that they have used to throw weddings in before, and so when OPs sister got engaged she asked if she could use the venue as well.

Anyway, we live in a renovated farmhouse on a bit of land that includes a barn that we finished off, with hopes to make it a guest house one day. In the meanwhile, weve had a relative get married here and it was gorgeous.

Now my sister (28F) wants to get married on our property and we were all for it.

OP said sure, and reiterates that the sister is deco...

Is It Ever OK To Let A Baby Cry During A Quiet Event? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

People tend to avoid taking babies places like movies, plays, dinner parties, weddings, church services, classroom performances, and other places where incessant crying might ruin the experience for everyone else.

Sometimes we dont have a choice, but in this moms opinion, those times should be pretty few and far between.

This mom didnt see the issue bringing a baby to her childs middle school play, though, and is wondering whether or not she should have thought twice.

She states that she has two older children with an ex, and one young baby with her new husband. Her older children live full time with their father and, due to having a new baby, OP had missed her oldests theatre performances back in the fall.

I have 2 children with my ex-husband, Will, Penelope (12F) and Jonny (10M). A few years ago, I remarried Chris. We have a 6 month old baby girl together, Lyla. Penelope and Jonny live primarily with their father as hes closer to their school. They come to us on the weekends.

Penelope is in the theater program at her school. I missed the fall shows because I was in labor and then had a newborn. Penelope understood as best a preteen girl can.

When it came time for the spring performances, she attended and brought her husband and their baby along a move that clearly didnt sit well with her ex.

Her spring show opened last week. Chris and Lyla came with me. Will, Jonny and Wills wife Ariana were already there.

Will saw I brought Lyla and got a weird look about him but Ariana hushed him and said just let it go.

The baby fussed during the first half, but quietly (she says). Even so, her ex suggested the babys father take her out or home so everyone could enjoy the second half.

Lyla slept through the first half. A l...

Bittrex Inc. Bitcoin And Crypto Exchange Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bittrex, a bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchange platform founded in 2014, has filed for bankruptcy in the state of Delaware. The decision comes after the company previously announced that it would be ceasing all operations in the U.S. effective April 30th as a result of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charges against the firm and its former CEO for operating an unregistered exchange, broker, and clearing agency. However, this announcement does not impact Bittrex Global, according to a statement released by the company, which will continue its operations as usual for customers outside of the U.S.

For customers who did not withdraw their funds from the platform prior to the end of April, the company has stated that their funds remain safe and secure. While the Bankruptcy Court will ultimately decide the method by which those funds can be claimed by and distributed to customers, the company stated its intentions to activate those accounts as soon as possible so that customers who meet the necessary regulatory requirements can withdraw their funds.

Bittrex has also retained Omni Agent Solutions to provide email and website updates to customers. The company has encouraged affected customers to visit their website during this process, as they will provide additional information as it becomes available, and customers will also receive information directly from the bankruptcy court.

In the released statement, the company said, "Our main priority is to ensure that our customers are made whole. We are committed to working through the bankruptcy process in a way that is transparent and compliant with all applicable laws and regulations. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience during this time."

A Customer Accidentally Bought Table Games at a Kiosk When Eating at Olive Garden "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Weve become so impatient as humans that it seems like we have to be entertained every second of every day.

Remember when we used to go out to dinner and actually talk to each other?

Well, those days are long gone!

Now, everyone has heads buried in their phones and, even worse, some restaurants offer kiosks on the tables that allow customers to buy and play games while they wait for their food.

And one man who dined at Olive Garden learned a hard lesson when he played games at his table without realizing he had to pay for them.

Then Comes The Body Follows the Nigerian Ballet Academy That Stepped into the Global Spotlight "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

In June 2020, a clip of the then-11-year-old Anthony Mmesoma Madu dancing in a rain-soaked courtyard made the internet rounds. The video shows the young student gracefully performing on wet concrete, presumably demonstrating what hes learned from Leap of Dance Academy. Located in Ajangbadi, Ojo, a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria, the ballet school garnered global attention after that viral moment, including from prestigious organizations like the American Ballet Theater and New York City Ballet, celebrities like Viola Davis, and the broader public.

A new documentary titled Then Comes The Body, directed by Jacob Krupnick of Wild Combination, pulls back the curtains on the genesis of the academy and follows its students, sharing their stories as individual artists and what it means to be part of a community with grand ambitions.

Established in 2017, Leap of Dance is the creation of Daniel Ajala, who began running the school out of his home as a way to offer free instruction to those who might want to pursue ballet as a profession. I wanted, more than anything, to give that opportunity to those younger than myself so they wouldnt miss their chance like I did, Ajala said in an interview, noting that, since ballet isnt widely practiced in Nigeria, he learned from YouTube. It was too bad that I was as old as I was when I realized I wanted to dance.

NY Action Alert Sign Petition for Expanded Raw Milk Sales in New York State "IndyWatch Feed Food"

Contact NYS Ag Officials Monthly

Expand Raw Milk Sales in New York State

New York law currently allows the sale of raw milk by licensed farmers on the farm only. The prohibition of the delivery of raw milk by licensed dairies has cost New York farmers millions of dollars in sales every year to raw milk producers in neighboring states such as Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. There is no valid food safety reason not to allow sales of raw milk through delivery at venues such as farmers markets; as demand has gone up considerably for raw milk in recent years, the number of foodborne illness outbreaks has remained flat or gone down.

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NYSDAM) has the authority to issue regulations allowing the sale of raw milk through delivery, on the farm, and at venues other than on the farm, but has refused to do so. A sustained campaign of pressure on NYSDAM is needed to get them to issue regulations. Will you help?

We are asking that farmers be allowed to sell raw milk, cream, and butter at other venues such as farmers markets and deliveries, and not solely at the farm.

ACTION TO TAKE

1. Sign the online NYS Raw Milk Petition requesting a change in New York regulations to remove the on farm only restriction. By doing so you agree to contact NYSDAM Commissioner Richard Ball and NYSDAM Dairy Division Chief Casey McCue on a monthly basis to request this change in the law. The contact information for McCue and Ball for emails, letters and phone calls is included below.

2. Encourage 10 additional people each month to phone, email or write a letter every month until the law is changed.

Heres a shortlink for the online petition you can share:  bit.ly/3HjsLmM

Heres a shortlink for a hardcopy petition you can download and print (landscape, to-sided); it also has a QR code on a third page:  bit.ly/44sC7Xf

TALKING POINTS

1. People want to choose the food they eat; a change in the law on delivery of raw milk and sales at other venues would better enable them to do that.

2. Dairy farms in New York have declined from 6,200 to 3,500 over the past 15 years. Dairy farmers need a viable market for their raw milk.

3. There are only 39 illnesses on average per year attributed to raw milk consumption. In the most recent year, 2020, for which there are records, there were only five outbreaks and 28 illnesses total. As the number o...

How Turkeys President Is Weaponizing Culture "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

ISTANBUL More than three decades after the last tenants moved out of Istanbuls first Art Nouveau building, the doors of the long-neglected Botter Apartment were flung wide open again last month after a lengthy restoration. Crowds lined up outside its newly gleaming faade to enter what was once the atelier of Jean Botter, official tailor to the court of Ottoman Sultan Abdlhamid II, and to see the contemporary art exhibition Reveries, Truths that had been installed there for the grand reopening.

The revival of Casa Botter is part of a larger initiative by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to convert pieces of Istanbuls history ranging from a former fez hat factory to a late-19th-century gasworks into new cultural hubs for the city of 16 million people. It is also symbolic of a broader struggle over political influence in the world of art and culture as Turkey heads toward critical national elections on May 14.

It is a clear fact that today, the most powerful weapons of those who manage the global system are the tools of culture, President Recep Tayyip Erdoan declared in a speech in late 2021. Better known for banning, pressuring, and even...

Deadly Fighting in Sudan Threatens Cultural Heritage "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

As fighting between rival military factions intensifies in Sudan, a report published at the end of last month by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) raises alarm that the countrys cultural institutions and their extensive collections are at risk of irreparable damage.

In the report, Sudan Natural History Museum Director Sara A. K. Saeed warns that some of the countrys most treasured museums, located in the capital city of Khartoum, are caught in the crossfire of battles between the two conflicting parties with nothing to protect them from looting and vandalism.

Specifically, Saeed points to the Sudan National Museum, the Museum of Ethnography, the Republican Palace Museum, and the Sudan Natural History Museum as primary targets for damage. These institutions all run along the Blue Nile River in the center of the city, where the fighting has been concentrated since mid-April. She also mentioned the Military Museum, which is loca...

Viral DIY Furniture Repair Uses Embroidery To Transform Shredded Sofa Into Art

DIY Couch Repair

In the battle between a cat and a couch, the kitty will often win. No matter how many times we tell our cat to stop scratching the furniture, their sharp claws still dig in and rip it to shreds. Once the sofa is torn up, you might feel like you have no options to repair itaside from reupholstering the entire couch. But as Stephanie Louise demonstrates, you can turn this unfortunate situation into an opportunity for art making. She shared her couch fix in a Facebook group called Tips4Home, showing how embroidery made for a beautiful repair.

Louise shared a photo of what the couch looked like before its transformation. If youre a cat owner, youve likely seen it before; the corner is tattered and the stuffing is practically bursting from the seams. In the after image, shes tamed the shredded sides by whip-stitching green thread where the corner was the most torn. Additionally, Lousie has added a winding green vine as well as some small blooms as cover for any additional tears. The result is a great example of how mending and repairing can also be a vehicle for creativity, making things look even better than before.

Louises handiwork has gone viral and likely inspired many cat owners with similarly scratched couches to do the same.

Stephanie Louise used embroidery as a practical and whimsical way to repair her couch after it had been shredded by her cat.

Mystery Behind 500 Pounds of Pasta Dumped by a New Jersey River Is Finally Solved "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Mystery Behind 500 Pounds of Pasta Dumped by a New Jersey River Is Finally Solved

In a scene that seems straight out of Tomie dePaola's classic children's book Strega Nona, where a magic pasta pot overflows and threatens to engulf a nearby town, residents in Old Bridge, New Jersey, found mounds of pasta dumped next to a river. And by mounds, we mean 500 pounds of spaghetti, elbows, and alphabet pasta. The story went viral when public official Nina Jochnowitz posted about the mysterious pasta dump on Facebook.

After a concerned citizen mentioned it to her, Jochnowitz went to the area and snapped some photos, sending them to the mayor's office. While a crew was sent down to clean up the mess, that still didn't answer the burning question of who had left all that pasta. Local Facebook groups were filled with questions about it, and people wandered down to take photos of the few strands of pasta that remained behind. Reddit was also rife with theories about the origins of the pasta. Some figured it was waste from a restaurant or a large catered event, while others joked about it being left behind as an offering for the cast of Jersey Shore.

Eventually, a local NBC affiliate solved the mystery by simply talking to a neighbor. Keith Rost, who lives nearby, cleared up the macaroni mystery by stating that he knew who had left the pasta behind. He claimed that it all came from a house that is up for sale and was being cleared out by a military veteran after his mother has died. Apparently, she'd left behind quite a stockpile of food and he disposed it in the woods.

What Two Mental Conditions Play a Huge Part in US Politics? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Image result for cognitive dissonance

One little acknowledged mental condition but still is very prevalent among the American public is known as Cognitive Dissonance this condition is one of denial of reality. Cognitive dissonance can exist as an individuals own short comings as far as comprehensive inability or it can be induced on a wide range of society through misinformation, social programming, or intentionally imposed psychological manipulation. It plays a huge role in voters preferences, mass acceptance of the unacceptable, those who believe assassination was just a lone gunman who had no support of an organized group, or how a Democrat President who has failed miserably in every possible policy still finds support of the tribal voter or low information voter.

Image result for cognitive dissonance

The process

If the indoctrination is strong enough for a number of formative years your corrupt government now has a zombie who will believe any story or fabrication they can think of. Thus, becoming a willing slave who will accept almost any form of oppression, the loss of his or her freedoms, and not mind that he has no personal privacy thanks to government intervention. We have half of the US population that cannot accept that they refuse to acknowledge the facts when presented to them in an unbiased way. Consensus or group think is another form of cognitive dissonance that influences individuals to become part of the group even when the group is clearly wrong! This type of conditioning has been in existence for decades and should never have been introduced in the US, but we have been compromised from within.

Image result for a Democrat fucked society

Here's a good example of cognitive dissonance. The Value of Cork Insulation "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

Natural cork has been harvested sustainably since Roman times. Cork bark can be harvested every 9 years from long-lived cork oak trees. After punching out corks for wine stoppers, the leftover cork can be ground, placed into molds, and injected with steam to form blocks of insulation. Cork binds to itself, so no additional binding agents are required. Most of the processing energy is obtained by firing a boiler using cork dust, so the embodied energy is very low.

Cork is largely carbon, is fire- and insect-resistant and lasts a long time. Cork used in the 1570s to insulate a convent can still be viewed today. Cork is unsurpassed at sequestering carbon. It is good to go beyond energy efficiency to carbon efficiency, by using sustainable materials which both sequester carbon and have low embodied/fabrication energy.

Ken Dickeys house walls include 7 inches of ThermaCork insulation. With low energy demand, his total power bill for the year, which includes heating, lights, and EV charging, amounts to only about $100!

Artists Say the Queens Museum Has Failed Them "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

When the Queens Museum launched its Year of Uncertainty (YoU) program in March 2021, many saw a glimmer of hope and possibility in the new initiative. The New York City museum, nestled within the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, was emerging from the first year of a pandemic that devastated the borough and engendered a parallel movement for racial justice that forced cultural institutions to look inward. Centered around five themes care, repair, play, justice, and the future the YoU program was meant to bring the museum and its communities together around issues ranging from racial justice to climate change.

Two years later, a report published last week by an anonymous coalition of artists and cultural workers, called the Arts Union, painted a different picture of the YoU initiative. Titled ...

High Bitcoin Fees From BRC-20 And Ordinals Lead To Controversy And Challenges "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The fees collected in a single block of Bitcoin transactions have surpassed the block reward, a testament to the growing demand for block space as a result of Ordinals and BRC-20. Given that this is the first time this has happened without the price of bitcoin being in a significant bull market, it is a milestone in the evolution of Bitcoin, as it reinforces the growing potential for transaction fees to sustain the network's operations.

According to Dustin Trammell, CEO of Trammell Venture Partners, the first time that the fees in a block surpassed the block reward was in block 500,521 in 2017.

The rise in transaction fees can be attributed to the introduction of Ordinals and BRC-20. Inscriptions, sets of data inscribed utilizing the Ordinals protocol, already pumped up the fee market and began impacting mempools within the last couple of months. But BRC-20, a recently-introduced token standard which allows tokens to be tied to the Bitcoin blockchain, has created an economic incentive with minting, most often done on the smallest UTXO size possible, leading to the recent competition for block space.

This has led users to pay higher and higher fees to ensure that their transactions are processed faster, as miners naturally prioritize bitcoin transactions with higher fees to maximize their profits.

On top of that, the recent rise in Bitcoin's price has also contributed to an increase (although small) in transaction fees, as users are willing to pay more to move their bitcoin holdings around. The combination of these factors has resulted in a significant increase in the revenue earned by miners from transaction fees, which is now exceeding the fixed block reward in certain blocks.

Source: mempool.space

The increase in fees has had a measurable impact on businesses that utilize both on-chain bitcoin and Lightning. Binance, the worlds largest cryptocurrency exchange, has had to halt and restart bitcoin withdrawals twice, claiming network congestion was the reason. As a result, the firm has stated that it is looking into integrating Lightning in order to better f...

Lost Teddy Bear With Last Recording of Little Girls Mom Is Replaced by Build-A-Bear

Rainbow Sparkle Teddy Bear alongside a note from Build-a-Bear, replacing a little girl's toy

The story of a 4-year-old who lost her highly significant teddy bear has taken a positive turn. The toy, which contains a recording of her late mother's last heartbeat, was accidentally donated by her family to a Goodwill in Tazewell, Tennessee. They realized their mistake when the girl asked to bring her bear to school. At that point, the girls father hastily returned to store. Sadly, it was too late, and the bear had been sold. Hoping to bring it back home, the family, the store, and their local radio station WRIL launched a campaign to alert people about the teddy bear.

We are [in] search of a [tie-dyed Build-a-Bear] that was accidentally donated. This bear is the only thing of a departed mother that a little girl has, reads a note posted by the store. Please, if you have it, return [it] to this store so we can reunite them. You will be reimbursed.

The family first shared a couple of pictures of rainbow teddy bears via the radio station, but a short video later revealed the actual appearance of the missing bear. With this new piece of information, some eagle-eyed commentors spotted that the toy's exact model was a Rainbow Sparkle Bear from Build-A-Bear, potentially narrowing the search. The footage also featured audio of the heartbeatoriginally captured over a year ago, making some wonder if a new bear could be made using that sound.

The news traveled far and wide, eventually reaching Build-A-Bear itself. After reaching out to the radio station for any identifying information they could use to provide a replacement, the company browsed their warehouse for a matching toy.

The staff at Build-A-Bear were heartbroken to hear the news about the missing Rainbow Sparkle Bear, a spokespers...

JPMorgan's Ties to Jeffrey Epstein Were Deeper Than the Bank Has Acknowledged "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

JPMorgan Chase & Co. had ties to Jeffrey Epstein that ran deeper than the bank has acknowledged and extended years beyond when it decided to close the convicted sex offender's accounts. Mary Erdoes, a top lieutenant to Chief Executive Jamie Dimon, made two trips to Epstein's townhouse on Manhattan's Upper East Side, in 2011 and 2013, when Epstein still was a client of the bank, said the people familiar with the matter. She exchanged dozens of emails with him and discussed sharing with him fees related to a charitable fund the bank was considering launching. John Duffy, who ran JPMorgan's U.S. private bank for the ultrarich, went to Epstein's townhouse for a meeting in April 2013, the people said. One month later, the private bank renewed an authorization allowing Epstein to borrow money against his accounts despite repeated warnings from compliance staffers about his unusual banking practices. Justin Nelson, one of Epstein's bankers at JPMorgan, had about a half-dozen meetings at Epstein's townhouse between 2014 and 2017. He also traveled to Epstein's ranch in New Mexico in 2016. Epstein was convicted of soliciting a minor for prostitution in 2008 and forced to register as a sex offender. The new details show that JPMorgan was treating Epstein like a star client after his first conviction and despite repeated warnings from its own employees. And after JPMorgan closed Epstein's accounts, bankers kept meeting with him for years.

Lab-created bird flu virus accident shows lax oversight of risky 'gain of function' research "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Inside the high-security Influenza Research Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, two experienced scientists were pulling ferrets out of their HEPA-filtered cages on a Monday in December 2019. Another researcher, still in training, was also in the room to watch and learn. This particular experiment involved exposing the animals to a highly controversial lab-engineered strain of H5N1 avian influenza virus. Scientists had taken an avian influenza virus that was mostly dangerous to birds and manipulated it in ways that potentially increased its threat to humans. The research was supported [by] Dr. Francis S. Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. On that December day, two experienced researchers from Kawaoka's team were helping train a colleague as they collected samples from ferrets. One of their most important pieces of personal protective equipment was the air-purifying respirator that each wore. As one of the senior researchers prepared to start collecting samples from the next round of ferrets, the trainee realized there was a problem with their respirator. The powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) hose had somehow disconnected from the unit. The detached hose dangled loose in the lab's potentially contaminated air. In the end, the trainee apparently didn't become infected. But how the university and the lab oversight system handled the incident should be cause for concern.

Australian government is hit with class action lawsuit over Covid vaccines "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

A landmark Covid-19 vaccine injury class action lawsuit has been filed against the Australian government and the medicines regulator. The nation-wide suit, which reportedly has 500 members including three named applicants, seeks redress for those allegedly left injured or bereaved by the Covid-19 vaccines. One of the applicants who suffered a severe heart condition after getting the Pfizer jab is even claiming there was 'cover-up' during the vaccine rollout which hid the potential risks. The federal government, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Department of Health - in addition to a number of senior public servants - are all named as parties to the class action, which was filed in the New South Wales Federal Court. The named parties are accused of negligence in their approval and monitoring of Covid-19 vaccines, breach of statutory duty and misfeasance in public office. Instructing solicitor Natalie Strijland, of Brisbane law firm NR Barbi, said the action would argue the TGA caused considerable harm and damage by failing to regulate the COVID-19 vaccinations properly. The class action names three applicants, one of whom is 41-year old father-of-two Gareth O'Gradie. Mr O'Gradie, a teacher from Melbourne, was left with a 20-centimetre scar down his chest after developing severe pericarditis inflammation of the lining around the heart following his first Pfizer vaccination in July 2021. In February 2022 doctors performed open heart surgery to remove his the pericardial sac lining his heart.

COVID-19 vaccine claims yield small payouts from U.S. government "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Of more than 8,000 people who filed claims with the federal government alleging injuries from COVID-19 vaccines, three have now received cash payouts, new government data shows. Their combined compensation? Less than $5,000. One person who had an anaphylactic reaction to the shot received $2,020 from the government's Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program, or CICP. Another who got myocarditis an inflammation of the heart muscle from the jab received $1,583, while a second myocarditis sufferer got $1,033, according to the data, which was released last week. A third myocarditis patient's claim was approved but the person was denied compensation due to lack of eligible expenses. The CICP has doled out just three small awards confirms [that] the government program is ill-suited to adjudicate these cases. The no-fault tribunal run by the Health Resources and Services Administration is stymied by statute in the relief it can offer, with compensation limited to unreimbursed medical expenses and up to $50,000 a year in lost wages. A death benefit of up to $422,035 may also be available. There's no allowance for pain and suffering, no punitive damages, no attorneys' fees, no public hearings or opinions, no right to judicial appeal. But it's the only legal recourse available for the unlucky few who have experienced serious adverse effects from the vaccines. The COVID-19 vaccine makers are indemnified by the government and are not party to CICP proceedings.

Note: This article attributes vaccine injuries to the "unlucky few." However, an increasing amount of evidence makes it clear that vaccine injuries are more common than what we're told, as revealed in countless anecdotal stories of those significantly harmed from the vaccine and Pfizer's very own disclosed documents. America only had a handful of billionaires 40 years ago. We're now creating 'centibillionaires'and unless we tax them, trillionaires "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The centibillionaire clubthose with over $100 billion in wealthlikely will be welcoming a new member soon. Forbes now estimates Michael Bloomberg's wealth at $94.5 billion, making him the sixth richest American. If his wealth continues to grow at the rate it's grown since 2013, Michael Bloomberg will join the centibillionaire club by the end of the year. At that point, he will be the 10th American to have reached that wealth level. Forty years ago, the mere billionaire club had just 13 members, and Daniel Ludwig, the richest American at the time, had a total wealth (adjusted for inflation) of $6.15 billion. Today, $1 billion of wealth in one person's hands often means far too much political power, but that astounding amount of money is now considered a rounding error in the context of America's largest fortunes. America's 20 richest billionaires spent more than the entire Biden campaign on the 2020 elections. According to political scientists Jeffrey Winters and Benjamin Page, the political influence of each of the 400 richest Americans is 22,000 times that of the average member of the bottom 90%. What all Americans whose wealth has passed the $100 billion threshold have in common ... is tax avoidance. Between 2013 and 2018, none made federal income tax payments greater than 11% of their wealth growthand all but two paid less than 5%. Even Ronald Reagan recognized that it's "crazy" for a society to tax a bus driver at a higher rate than a millionaire.

Lockdowns, school closures and limiting gatherings only reduced COVID mortality by 0.2% at 'enormous economic and social costs', study finds "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The original coronavirus lockdowns had 'little to no' effect on pandemic death tolls in the US, UK and Europe, a controversial report suggests. Economists who carried out a meta-analysis found draconian restrictions imposed in spring 2020 including stay-at-home orders, compulsory masks and social distancing only reduced Covid mortality by 0.2 per cent. They warned that lockdowns caused 'enormous economic and social costs' and concluded they were 'ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument' going forward. The review, led by a Johns Hopkins University professor, argued that border closures had virtually zero effect on Covid mortality, reducing deaths by just 0.1 per cent. There has been a growing consensus that draconian restrictions have led to a rise in non-Covid deaths, thought to be people whose conditions worsened during the pandemic when they could not access healthcare. In the latest report, the researchers admit their review does not answer 'why' lockdowns didn't achieve their ultimate goal in saving lives but they float a number of explanations. They claimed the best explanation for differing Covid death rates in countries was 'differences in population age and health' and the 'quality of the health sector. But they could not rule out 'less obvious factors, such as culture, communication, and coincidences'. Covid deaths are also skewed by the volume of testing each country carries out, which many scientists have highlighted as the driving factor behind Britain's large toll.

3 prominent economists slam COVID lockdowns and school closures and say they should never happen again "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

When the COVID outbreak began in early 2020, a number of studies predicted that government-imposed lockdowns would prove highly effective in preventing deaths. A widely cited epidemiological paper by researchers at Imperial College London predicted that such measures as bans on travel and shelter-in-place mandates would reduce mortality from the virus by 98%. But now, a new analysis by three prominent economists that surveys all empirical data from the academic literature measuring the relationship between death and lockdowns finds that forced restrictions didn't work. Their conclusion: Lockdowns reduced mortalities by a minuscule 0.2%. The study defines lockdowns as "compulsory non-pharmaceutical interventions," or what's commonly known as NPIs. They include restrictions on travel, school closures, bans on international travel, restrictions on movement within a country's borders, and mask mandates. The authors note that lockdowns were virtually universal. Of the 186 nations followed by the Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker, all but one - the Indian Ocean island nation of Comoros - imposed at least one NPI by the end of March 2020. The U.S. paid a huge price in lost jobs, businesses that never reopened, and kids deprived of going to school - not to mention the deep malaise that caused a pandemic of suicides. The world's citizens left to their own devices would have handled the pandemic better, and ... fewer lives would perhaps have been lost with no lockdowns at all.

More than half of humans on track to be overweight or obese by 2035 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

More than half of the world's population will be overweight or obese by 2035 unless governments take decisive action to curb the growing epidemic of excess weight, a report has warned. About 2.6 billion people globally 38% of the world population are already overweight or obese. But on current trends that is expected to rise to more than 4 billion people (51%) in 12 years' time, according to research by the World Obesity Federation. Obesity among children and young people is on course to increase faster than among adults. By 2035 it is expected to be at least double the rate seen in 2020, according to the federation's latest annual World Obesity Atlas report. It is expected to rise by 100% among boys under 18, leaving 208 million affected, but go up even more sharply by 125% among girls the same age, which would see 175 million of them affected. The federation is an alliance of health, scientific, research and campaign groups, and works closely on obesity with various global agencies. It wants governments to use tax systems; restrictions on the marketing of foods that are high in fat, salt or sugar; front-of-pack labels; and provision of healthy food in schools to address rising obesity. The federation's report also highlights that many of the world's poorest countries are facing the sharpest increases in obesity yet are the least well prepared to confront the disease. Nine of the 10 countries set to experience the biggest rises in coming years are low- or middle-income nations in Africa and Asia.

Lockheed Martin Got $106 From the Average Taxpayer, While Renewables Got Just $6 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The average U.S. taxpayer in 2022 spent over four times as much on Pentagon contractors than on primary and secondary education, according to the annual Tax Day analysis published in recent days by the Institute for Policy Studies' National Priorities Project. NPP found that, on average, American taxpayers contributed $1,087 to Pentagon contractors, compared with $270 for K-12 education. The top military contractor Lockheed Martin received $106 from the average taxpayer, while just $6 went to funding renewable energy. According to the analysis, the average 2022 U.S. taxpayer: Paid $74 for nuclear weapons, and just $43 for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Spent $70 on deportations and border control, versus just $19 for refugee assistance; Contributed $20 for federal prisons, and just $11 for anti-homelessness programs; and Gave $298 to the top five military contractors, and just $19 for mental health and substance abuse. "The main message? Our government is continuing to invest too much in the military, and in militarized law enforcement, and not nearly enough on prevention, people, and our communities," NPP said. NPP's analysis comes just over a month after the White House released President Joe Biden's $1.6 trillion budget request for fiscal year 2024. More than half of that amount$886 billion would go to the military.

Will China's Push for Multipolar World End US Global Domination? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

China is taking an increasingly assertive role in world affairs, helping to broker a restoration of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, offering a 12-point peace plan for Ukraine, and strengthening its relationships with European and Latin American powers. Last week, China continued its diplomatic outreach by offering to hold talks between Israel and Palestine. "What China is after, if we view it from China's perspective, is what was also said: true multilateralism. And what that means, or true multipolarity, another term that they use, and that means they don't want a U.S.-led world, they want a multipolar world," [said Jeffrey Sachs at Columbia University]. "And while the United States sometimes talks about a rule-based order, the fact of the matter is that ... the grand strategists of the U.S. state see our grand strategy in the United States as being dominance. Well, China doesn't want the United States to be the preeminent power. It wants to live alongside the United States. But what's very important and interesting to understand, and we've seen it clearly in the dynamics involving the Ukraine war, most of the world also does not want the U.S. as the global preeminent power. Most of the world wants a multipolar world, and is, therefore, not lined up behind the United States' sanctions on Russia and so forth. In fact, the United States is withdrawing ... our politicians are withdrawing from the world financial and monetary scene and opening up the space for a completely different kind of international finance."

"We were impressed by how consistently the system worked over a long period of timewe thought it might stop after a few weeks but it just kept going," says Paolo Bombelli, a researcher from the University of Cambridge's Department of Biochemistry and lead author of the paper. The scientists created an enclosure out of aluminum and clear plastic and put the bacteria inside it. The device, which is about the size of a AA battery, was placed on a windowsill in Bombelli's home during Covid-19 lockdown in 2021 and remained there from February to August. The bacteria powered an Arm Cortex M0+ processora microprocessor widely used in the network of appliances connected to the internet, also called the Internet of Things (IoT). The cyanobacteria produced energy even without light, perhaps because they process some of their food in the dark, which generates an electrical current. Seal's mystery ability to tolerate toxic metal could aid medical research, say scientists "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

One of the world's most isolated aquatic mammals, Arctocephalus philippii, can tolerate high levels of cadmium, as well as other metallic pollutants, without suffering ill effects. A. philippii is the second smallest species of fur seal and lives only on the Juan Fernndez archipelago and one or two nearby islands in the Pacific Ocean, hundreds of miles off the coast of Chile. By the 19th century, the species had disappeared and was believed to be extinct until, in the 1960s, a small colony was found in a cave on the island. Since then, the Juan Fernndez seal, which has become a protected species, has slowly recovered and has a population of around 80,000. "We collected samples of their faeces and found they contained extremely high levels of cadmium and other elements such as mercury," said Constanza Toro-Valdivieso of Cambridge University's conservation research institute. "The discovery was very surprising," she said. "Cadmium is poisonous to mammals but somehow these seals were processing it and passing it through their digestive systems and seem to be suffering little harm in the process." High levels were found not only in its faeces but in the bones of seals that had died of natural causes. The researchers also found high levels of silicon in their bones, which may be offsetting the impact of cadmium, they suggest. "The discovery that these animals appear to tolerate high levels of cadmium in their bodies has important medical implications," said Toro-Valdivieso. "These animals have a lot to tell us."

Botanist Stefano Mancuso: 'You can anaesthetise all plants. This is extremely fascinating' "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Stefano Mancuso is a pioneer in the plant neurobiology movement, which seeks to understand "how plants perceive their circumstances and respond to environmental input in an integrated fashion". Mancuso teaches at the University of Florence, his alma mater, where he runs the International Laboratory of Plant Neurobiology. He has written five bestselling books on plants. "Communication means you are able to emit a message and there is something able to receive it, and in this sense plants are great communicators. If you are unable to move, if you are rooted, it's of paramount importance for you to communicate a lot," [said Mancuso]. "Plants are obliged to communicate a lot, and they use different systems. The most important is through volatiles, or chemicals that are emitted in the atmosphere and received by other plants. It's an extremely sophisticated form of communication, a kind of vocabulary. Every single molecule means something, and they mix very different molecules to send a specific message. My approach to studying consciousness in plants ... started by seeing if they were sensitive to anaesthetics and found that you can anaesthetise all plants by using the same anaesthetics that work in humans. This is extremely fascinating. We were thinking that consciousness was something related to the brain, but I think that both consciousness and intelligence are more embodied, relating to the entire body."

Psychologist's death due to AstraZeneca Covid vaccine reaction "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The death of a psychologist after his Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 jab was due to "unintended complications of the vaccine", an inquest has ruled. Stephen Wright, an NHS employee in south-east London, died 10 days after his first dose in January 2021, senior coroner Andrew Harris found. Dr Wright, 32, suffered a blood clot to the brain after receiving the vaccine. His wife Charlotte has been trying to get the "natural causes" wording on her husband's death certificate changed. She is pursuing legal action against the pharmaceutical company. At London Inner South Coroner's Court, Mr Harris described it as a "very unusual and deeply tragic case". Dr Wright suffered from a combination of a brainstem infarction, bleed on the brain and "vaccine-induced thrombosis", the inquest heard. His condition rapidly worsened, but the nature of the bleed meant he was unfit for surgery. After the inquest, Mrs Wright ... said: "It was made clear that Stephen was [previously] fit and healthy and that his death was by vaccination of AstraZeneca. For us, it allows us to be able to continue our litigation against AstraZeneca. This is the written proof." Speaking about the coroner's ruling, mother-of-two Charlotte Wright said: "It provides relief but it doesn't provide closure. I think we're only going to get that when we have an answer from AstraZeneca and the government." From May 2021, the AZ jab was no longer offered to adults under 40 after it became clear the vaccine carried [a] risk of blood clots which could be fatal.

Note: Dr. Wright's death is one of many tragedies related to the COVID-19 vaccine, as revealed in a powerful documentary that follows the lives of people significantly harmed by the vaccine, yet were discredited and abandoned by the medical system and our media systems. A recent analysis report estimates that in 2022 alone, out of 148 million people, the mass COVID-19 inoculations injured 26.6 million, disabled 1.36 million, and caused 300,000 excess deaths, with an estimated economic cost of nearly $150 billion. Clearview AI scraped 30 billion images from Facebook and other social media sites and gave them to cops: it puts everyone into a 'perpetual police line-up' "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

A controversial facial recognition database, used by police departments across the nation, was built in part with 30 billion photos the company scraped from Facebook and other social media users without their permission. The company, Clearview AI, boasts of its potential for identifying rioters at the January 6 attack on the Capitol, saving children being abused or exploited, and helping exonerate people wrongfully accused of crimes. But critics point to privacy violations and wrongful arrests fueled by faulty identifications made by facial recognition, including cases in Detroit and New Orleans, as cause for concern over the technology. Once a photo has been scraped by Clearview AI, biometric face prints are made and cross-referenced in the database, tying the individuals to their social media profiles and other identifying information forever and people in the photos have little recourse to try to remove themselves. CNN reported Clearview AI last year claimed the company's clients include "more than 3,100 US agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security." BBC reported Miami Police acknowledged they use the technology for all kinds of crimes, from shoplifting to murder. The risk of being included in what is functionally a "perpetual police line-up" applies to everyone, including people who think they have nothing to hide, [said] Matthew Guariglia, a senior policy analyst for the international non-profit digital rights group Electronic Frontier Fund.

Georgia National Guard Will Use Phone Location Tracking to Recruit High School Children "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The Georgia Army National Guard plans to combine two deeply controversial practices military recruiting at schools and location-based phone surveillance to persuade teens to enlist, according to contract documents reviewed by The Intercept. The federal contract materials outline plans by the Georgia Army National Guard to geofence 67 different public high schools throughout the state, targeting phones found within a one-mile boundary of their campuses with recruiting advertisements "with the intent of generating qualified leads of potential applicants for enlistment while also raising awareness of the Georgia Army National Guard." Geofencing refers generally to the practice of drawing a virtual border around a real-world area. The ad campaign will make use of a variety of surveillance advertising techniques, including capturing the unique device IDs of student phones, tracking pixels, and IP address tracking. It will also plaster recruiting solicitations across Instagram, Snapchat, streaming television, and music apps. The campaign plans not only call for broadcasting recruitment ads to kids at school, but also for pro-Guard ads to follow these students around as they continue using the internet and other apps, a practice known as retargeting. While the state's plan specifies targeting only high school juniors and seniors ages 17 and above, demographic ad targeting is known to be error prone, and experts told The Intercept it's possible the recruiting messages could reach the phones of younger children.

Johns Hopkins study shows lockdowns only reduced COVID-19 death rate by .2% "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Lockdowns during the first COVID-19 wave in the spring of 2020 only reduced COVID-19 mortality by .2% in the U.S. and Europe, according to a Johns Hopkins University meta-analysis of several studies. "While this meta-analysis concludes that lockdowns have had little to no public health effects, they have imposed enormous economic and social costs where they have been adopted," the researchers wrote. "In consequence, lockdown policies are ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument." The researchers Johns Hopkins University economics professor Steve Hanke, Lund University economics professor Lars Jonung, and special advisor at Copenhagen's Center for Political Studies Jonas Herby analyzed the effects of lockdown measures such as school shutdowns, business closures, and mask mandates on COVID-19 deaths. "We find little to no evidence that mandated lockdowns in Europe and the United States had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality rates," the researchers wrote. The researchers also examined shelter-in-place orders, finding that they reduced COVID-19 mortality by 2.9%. Studies that looked at only shelter-in-place orders found they reduced COVID-19 mortality by 5.1%, but studies that looked at shelter-in-place orders along with other lockdown measures found that shelter-in-place orders actually increased COVID-19 mortality by 2.8%. The researchers concluded that limiting gatherings may have actually increased COVID-19 mortality.

Lockdowns in the U.S. and Europe had little or no impact in reducing deaths from COVID-19 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Lockdowns in the U.S. and Europe had little or no impact in reducing deaths from COVID-19, according to a new analysis by researchers at Johns Hopkins University. The lockdowns during the early phase of the pandemic in 2020 reduced COVID-19 mortality by about 0.2%, said the broad review of multiple scientific studies. "We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality," the researchers wrote. But the research paper said lockdowns did have "devastating effects" on the economy and contributed to numerous social ills. "They have contributed to reducing economic activity, raising unemployment, reducing schooling, causing political unrest, contributing to domestic violence, and undermining liberal democracy," the report said. "Such a standard benefit-cost calculation leads to a strong conclusion: lockdowns should be rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy instrument," the paper concluded. Early on, many states and 186 countries imposed bans on work, socialization, in-person schooling, travel and other restrictions to limit the spread of the disease, citing recommendations by top health care experts. Researchers at the Imperial College London, for example, predicted that such steps could reduce death rates by up to 98%. That never happened, according to the new study by researchers Steve Hanke, Jonas Herby, and Lars Jonung at Johns Hopkins.
