A Front Company and a Fake Identity: How the U.S. Came to Use Spyware It Was Trying to Kill "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The secret contract was finalized on Nov. 8, 2021, a deal between a company that has acted as a front for the United States government and the American affiliate of a notorious Israeli hacking firm. Under the arrangement, the Israeli firm, NSO Group, gave the U.S. government access to one of its most powerful weapons a geolocation tool that can covertly track mobile phones around the world without the phone user's knowledge or consent. Only five days earlier, the Biden administration had announced it was taking action against NSO, whose hacking tools for years had been abused by governments around the world to spy on political dissidents, human rights activists and journalists. The White House placed NSO on a Commerce Department blacklist, declaring the company a national security threat. The secret contract ... violates the Biden administration's public policy, and still appears to be active. The contract, reviewed by The Times, stated that the "United States government" would be the ultimate user of the tool, although it is unclear which government agency authorized the deal and might be using the spyware. Elements of America's expansive national security apparatus in recent years have bought the weapons, deployed them against drug traffickers, and have quietly pushed to consolidate control of them into the hands of the United States and its closest allies. The F.B.I. purchased access in 2019 to NSO's most powerful hacking tool, known as Pegasus, which invades mobile phones and mines their contents.

Censorship by Proxy: How Big Tech Censors Global News Platforms "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Big Tech giants and their oligarchic owners now engage in a new type of censorship, which we have called "censorship by proxy." Censorship by proxy describes restrictions on freedom of information undertaken by private corporations that exceed limits on governmental censorship and serve both corporate and government or third-party interests. Censorship by proxy is not subject to venerable First Amendment proscriptions on government interference with freedom of speech or freedom of the press. Censorship by proxy alerts us to the power of economic entities that are not normally recognized as "gatekeepers." For example, in 2022, the digital financial service PayPal (whose founders include Peter Thiel and Elon Musk) froze the accounts of Consortium News and MintPress News for "unspecified offenses" and "risks" associated with their accounts, a ruling that prevented both independent news outlets from using funds maintained by PayPal. Consortium News and MintPress News have each filed critical news stories and commentary on the foreign policy objectives of the United States and NATO. PayPal issued notices to each news outlet, stating that, in addition to suspending their accounts, it might also seize their assets for "damages."  Joe Lauria, editor in chief of Consortium News, said he believed this was a case of "ideological policing." Mnar Adley, head of MintPress News, warned, "The sanctions-regime war is coming home to hit the bank accounts of watchdog journalists."

Note: For more along these lines, see concise summaries of deeply revealing news articles on corporate corruption and media manipulation from reliable sources.

Pentagon Tries to Cast Bank Runs as National Security Threat "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In recent months, the Pentagon has moved to provide loans, guarantees, and other financial instruments to technology companies it considers crucial to national security a step beyond the grants and contracts it normally employs. So when Silicon Valley Bank threatened to fail in March following a bank run, the defense agency advocated for government intervention to insure the investments. The Pentagon had even scrambled to prepare multiple plans to get cash to affected companies if necessary, reporting by Defense One revealed. Their interest in Silicon Valley Bank stems from the Pentagon's brand-new office, the Office of Strategic Capital. The secretary of defense established the OSC in December specifically to counteract the investment power of adversaries like China in U.S. technologies, and to secure separate funding for companies whose products are considered vital to national security. The national security argument for bailout, notably, found an influential friend in the Senate. As the Biden administration intervened to protect Silicon Valley Bank depositors on March 12, Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., who chairs the powerful Senate Intelligence Committee and also sits on the Banking Committee, issued a press release warning that the bank run posed a national security risk. Warner the only member of Congress to have publicly tied SVB to national security has received significant contributions from the financial sector. Since 2012, Warner has received over $21,000 from Silicon Valley Bank's super PAC.

Note: Many tech startups with funds in Silicon Valley Bank were working on projects with defense and national security applications. US Army awards Lockheed up to $4.5 bln missiles contract "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) said on Monday the U.S. Army has awarded a multi-year production contract for Joint-Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM) and HELLFIRE missiles, in a deal that could go up to $4.5 billion including follow-on awards. The contract, which will have a total value of $439 million in its first year, is among the first multi-year awards for precision munitions, as the Pentagon looks to build stocks in the hopes of deterring China. In March, President Joe Biden requested $842 billion for the Pentagon and $44 billion for defense-related programs at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Energy and other agencies. The 2024 budget proposal is $28 billion more than last year's $858 billion. Lockheed added the contract also offers three additional follow-on awards which will start in late 2023, allowing for a total contract value of up to $4.5 billion over the next four years. The JAGM program anticipates a "significant increase" in international demand for the weapon system, Lockheed said.

Note: Many benefit financially from warfare when it comes to provoking proxy wars and furthering U.S. agendas of full-spectrum dominance, as thoroughly explored in the book War is a Racket by the highly decorated general Smedley D. Butler. According to a revealing report, at least 47 members of Congress and their spouses hold between $2 million and $6.7 million worth of stock in Lockheed Martin and other companies that are among the top 100 defense contractors.

Throughout his career, actor Jack Black has played his fair share of iconic characters in films such as High Fidelity (2000), Nacho Libre (2006), and Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006). But no role has matched the endearing and raucous guitarist Dewey Finn from School of Rock (2003). Not only was this movie praised by critics back when it was released, but it even spawned a Broadway musical and a TV show. Now, as its 20th anniversary approaches, Black has just announced that he is planning a reunion with his co-stars from the film.

Black made the announcement during a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight. All those kidsdig thisthey were 10 years old when we made that movie and now they're all, like, 30, Black said. We're gonna get together and have a 20-year anniversary. We like to jam. I'm looking forward to seeing all of the grownups from School of Rock. Black, who is very active on Instagram, has promised to share images and videos of the encounter.

While Black may be the most recognizable member of the cast, School of Rock propelled the careers of some its stars. Miranda Cosgrove, who played band manager Summer Tinkerbell Hathaway, went on to star in the in the teen sitcom iCarly. And Mike White, who appears as Ned Schneebly, Dewey's responsible roommate, created, writes, and directs HBO's acclaimed series The White Lotus.

Though this will certainly be a momentous occasion, it won't be the first time Black has reunited with some of his co-stars from School of Rock. For the 10th annive...

The Dust "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Where I live is about twenty minutes from anywhere else in Los Angeles. What this actually means is that I live ten minutes from anything when theres no traffic, and forty-five minutes when there is. In reality, theres no given instance during the day when I actually live twenty minutes from any geographical point in LA, but its an easy way to say I live in the middle of town. The area lacks the socioeconomic and demographic cohesion common to most LA neighborhoods, so its not particularly cool or uncool, its just twenty minutes from places that are. Its a neighborhood thats special in the same way a local laundromat is specialyou get people from all walks of life.

The building itself is a small, charming holdover from when old Hollywood was just called Hollywood. I park on the street, and I live in one of fourteen modest units, where I am very happy. Ive lived in old buildings for most of my adult life, and it is my preference to do so. Of course, there are costs associated with living in an old building. You might have an occasional leak or wonky electrical wiring, but these are small problems that can be solved. As with any formative experience, part of the joy in fixing them is the skill gained, or the longevity of the solution. If you fix a leak and you did it right, itll take a second for the leak to come back. Once youve dealt with something once, it is not such a tragedy the next time. I think thats what it is to get older: you get softer with age because youve experienced a lot of things once, and youre equipped to do them again if you have to. Remember that first sip of alcohol, or the first cigarette? You turned your back on your innocence, but you didnt die, so you did it again. However, when a task requires constant maintenance, there is no finish line, so there is no small victory. You never feel done, and it becomes the bane of your existence. The great scourge of my little life, twenty minutes from everywhere else in Los Angeles, is the dust.

LA is a dusty town, and i...

Crystal Tumblers and Decanters Glint in the Sun in Photorealistic Embroideries by Lucy Simpson "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Reflecting her interest in drawing and photorealism, Lucy Simpson of Peacocks and Pinecones embroiders the glinting edges of glass and metallic objects in painstaking detail. Each piece is composed by directly observing decorative items like crystal tumblers and decanters, with some of the larger compositions taking upwards of 200 hours to complete. Its a slow process, and as a person who isnt naturally patient, its a real endurance test for me, she says. I feel a real sense of accomplishment when I finish a piece.

Simpsons interest in needlework goes back to childhood and spending time with her grandmother, from whom she learned some basic skills at an early age. Fast forward to around five years ago when the artist had just given birth to her third child, and she took up cross-stitching from patterns as a way to relax. I had been diagnosed with postnatal depression and anxiety, and my sister bought me my first kit to try and take my mind off things, she says. I loved how I had to completely focus on what I was doing, which left no room for intrusive thoughts. After a while, I decided I wanted to stitch my own designs and came across an embroidery style called thread painting and decided to have a go myself.

CleanSpark To Nearly Double Bitcoin Mining Capacity With $144.9M Antminer Purchase "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The public mining company has purchased 45,000 Antminer S19 XP miners in line with its goal of reaching 16 EH/s by end of year.

CleanSpark Inc., a public Bitcoin mining company, has announced its purchase of 45,000 brand-new units of the Antminer S19 XP bitcoin mining machines, at a cost of $144.9 million. The company expects all units to be delivered by the manufacturer by the end of September, with a 95% increase in computing power once deployed according to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine.

CleanSpark has approximately 15.9 EH/s of machines on hand or under contract for delivery this year, edging closer to its year-end guidance of 16 EH/s. The company will deploy all of the acquired units at its bitcoin mining facility in Sandersville, Georgia, which is currently undergoing a planned 150 MW expansion. The machines will be deployed in multiple batches as they arrive on site and new rack-space becomes available, with all machines expected to be fully operational before year-end.

Zach Bradford, CEO of CleanSpark, stated, As bitcoins halving draws closer, our focus on operational efficiency, our technical expertise, and our treasury management strategy, will all play a crucial role in solidifying CleanSparks position among the top bitcoin mining companies in America. Gary Vecchiarelli, CleanSparks CFO, added, Securing XPs at these prices means we have one less variable in our capital expenditure equation and puts us well on our way to achieving our year-end guidance of 16 EH/s.

According to the press release, CleanSpark predominantly mines bitcoin with low-carbon energy sources, which account for over 90% of its energy mix, and the company follows what it describes as a balanced capital management strategy by selling some of its mined bitcoin to reinvest in growth.

This most recent miner purchase is in addition to a 20,000 machine purchase announced in February, with those machines fully paid for and in the process of being delivered to the companys Washington facility. They are expected to be energized later this quarter, according to the press release, adding an additional 2.44 EH/s of machines to CleanSparks operational hashrate.

How Many Times Should Parents Have To Apologize For A Stressful Childhood? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

There are a lot of parents out there who are selfish and dont put their kids first, even if they could.

There are far more parents, I think, who are doing their best in circumstances that might not be easy at all.

That said, the trauma that kids in either situation might end up with as a result isnt null and void just because there was nothing else you could have done to prevent it.

OP is the mother here, and acknowledges that as a young and struggling single mother, there were many times her oldest daughter had to go without.

She says she did her best, buying gifts for important occasions and such, but that they never really had anything extra.

I (45F) had my daughter, CJ (now 28F) when I was 17 years old. Her father did not stick around and we really struggled for a bit. Even when I graduated college, I had a bunch of student loan debt as well as juggling rent, food and other expenses. CJ never lacked necessities, but I admit she didnt get a lot of material possesions.

I would try to save up as much as possible to make Christmas and birthdays as fun as possible, but she didnt get much else throughout the year and we only went on 2 vacations total in her childhood.

We definitely ate a lot of struggle meals and had to move often. We honestly teetered on the poverty line.

Now her daughter is grown and OP is married with two much-younger children. Because circumstances are different, shes able to give her youngest kids a life that wasnt possible with her oldest.

That said, she tries her best to make it up to her daughter when she can. She pays for vacations, gives her random gifts, and the like.

When CJ was 17, I was finally debt free, got a promotion at work and was doing much better. I did start to give her thin...

Virginia Mori Twists Everyday Anxieties into Dreamlike Illustrations "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A gif of a swimmer jumping into a pool on a larger figure's face

All images Virginia Mori, shared with permission

Through pen and ink renderings, Virginia Mori continues her elegant and surreal interpretations of the prosaic. The Italian illustrator and animator (previously) gravitates toward the everyday and turns moments of relative simplicity into strange otherworldly scenes. Plucking a book off of a shelf reveals a figure lurking behind the volumes, for example, while an enormous detached head plummets to the earth where a team awaits with a cushion for a safe landing. Often featuring minimal palettes of pastel colors, the introspective works meld relatable feelings of anxiety, hesitation, and fear with dreamlike inventions.

Currently, Mori has works on view in a group exhibition through May 7 at the Seoul Museum and is preparing for another opening in September at Jiro Miura Gallery in Tokyo. Shop prints of her illustrations at Librera di Fursaglia and stay-hop, which also sells t-shirts, cards, and her latest book Feeling Bed. Italy is widely celebrated for having vigilantly preserved its food culture, with the result that many dishes there are still prepared in more or less the same way they have been for centuries. When you taste Italian food at its best, you taste history to borrow the name of a Youtube channel whose success has revealed a surprisingly widespread enthusiasm for the cuisine of bygone eras. But some of Italys most globally beloved comestibles arent quite as deeply rooted in the past as people tend to assume: there are no records of tiramisu, for instance, before the nineteen-sixties; ciabatta, the Italian answer to the baguette, was invented in the early nineteen-eighties.

Neither of them appear anywhere in Historical Italian Cooking, a bilingual blog in English and Italian that teaches how to partake in far more venerable culinary traditions. A variety of periods are represented: the nineteenth century (Neapolitan calamari, tagliatelle and beef stew), the Renaissance (crostini with guanciale and sage, elderflowers fritters), the Middle Ages (monks stuffed-egg soup, quails with sumac), and even the time of ancient Rome (cuttlefish cakes, Horaces lagana and chickpeas).

This Woman Felt Upstaged At Her Wedding. Was She Wrong To Call Out The Responsible Party? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

I think we can all accept that weddings make people a little bit crazy. Even folks who are normally pretty even-keeled can get more sensitive and say things that they later regret, which is how situations like this one arise.

OP has a sister-in-law who she admits is pretty, invests in her appearances, and enjoys dressing nicely.

She says she doesnt begrudge the woman any of these things.

I (30F) recently got married to Matt (30). Matt has a stepsister, Tiffany (28F). I have met her less than 10 times in the five years I dated Matt as she doesnt live nearby and is not close to my husband. However, she was invited to our wedding.

I should mention that Tiffany is very attractive. She is pretty, with a currently fashionable body type, she also dresses well and spends money on her appearance. This is well known and even though Ive only met her a few times whenever she is brought up by my in laws she always mentioned as being very invested in her image.

I dont begrudge her this at all.

Then, the sister-in-law showed up at her wedding looking fabulous enough to be the talk of the room for most of the night, leaving the bride feeling jealous and upstaged.

She says she muscled through and went on her honeymoon determined to just let it go, as they rarely see the relative in the first place.

The ceremony went fine, but afterwards, while my in laws were congratulating me, my FIL commented that I looked beautiful, and in the next breath mentioned Tiffany did, too. His wife caught his eye and shook her head, but I ignored it.

When Tiffany came over to say congratulations, she looked stunning. Her dress was beautiful and fitted her perfectly, her hair and make up looked like theyd been done professionally, and she was wearing a pair of obviously...

9 Things A 10-Year-Old Should Never Do "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Kids seem to grow up faster and faster these days, with kids having more and more access to the ever-changing world in modern times. In spite of this, no matter how fast society is moving, it is important to remember that if your child is ten-years-old, they are still a kid.

Dont get me wrong, at ten-years-old, your child isnt a baby. Ten years old is a big age. Its the first double-digit age your child will hit and in this stage, your child will begin to mature in some ways. However, it is also during this stage that your child will begin to push the boundaries that have been set in place. Of course, this might have you questioning things. Regardless, remember that the following 9 things are not something a ten-year-old should be doing.

1. Having unrestricted internet or phone access.

A lot of kids have been granted this privilege far too early. The internet is a pretty intense place to be a free-roaming play place for a child. While you might want to give your child what they want, at the end of the day, you need to be monitoring what your child has access to and limiting it, when it comes to the internet.

2. Sitting for hours.

Sitting for hours is an activity that no one needs to participate in, especially kids. Your kids childhood years, even ten years old are important developmental stages. They need movement and activity for their brain to thrive and flourish. Sitting on their butts all day will only harm their physical and mental health.

3. Watching anything rated pg-13 and over.

Around the age of ten, kids will begin to model what they see others doing, more than ever. When they are watching movies with adult themes, like sex, drugs, violence, or alcohol use, they might get the wrong impression.

4. Sitting around drinking sugary drinks.

Its okay to have treats here and there, but if your child is drinking nothing but cokes or juice all day long, then they are getting a ton of sugar and about no nutrition from those beverages.

5. Wear provocative clothing.

It is our job to protect our children. Your child may be itching to fit in, but it sends the wrong message when they are allowed to wear things that show off their body. Firstly, you are teaching them that their bodies hold more value than their minds.

6. Using social media.

Kids want to look into social media because the whole world is on there. However, children are not old enough yet to handle the internet. There is simply too much going on in that world that your child is not ready for yet.

7. Playing teen or adult games.

When a video game has a T for Teen or an A for Adult on it, then it is not for a ten-year-old. The themes contained in games like this can be pretty provocative, even for teens.

8. Going out together with a girlfriend or boyfriend.

It might seem harmless or even cute, but your child...

5 Types Of Manipulative Behaviors That Are Not Easy To Spot "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Manipulative behavior can be subtle and difficult to recognize, often leaving people feeling confused and emotionally drained. A recent article on WellandGood.com highlighted five types of manipulative behavior that can occur in various relationships. This article will delve into these behaviors, helping you identify and protect yourself from manipulation.

  1. Gaslighting: Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation where the manipulator sows seeds of doubt in the victims mind, causing them to question their own perception, memory, or sanity. Gaslighters often deny or distort facts, making the victim feel disoriented and uncertain of their own reality. To protect yourself from gaslighting, maintain a record of events or conversations and seek the support of trusted friends or professionals to help validate your experiences.
  2. Guilt-tripping: Guilt-tripping involves the manipulator using guilt to control or influence the victims behavior. They may play the victim themselves or blame the target for their problems, making the person feel responsible for their well-being. To counter guilt-tripping, set clear boundaries and remind yourself that you are not responsible for other peoples happiness or choices.
  3. Love-bombing: Love-bombing is a manipulation tactic where the manipulator showers the victim with excessive affection, praise, and attention to gain control over them. This behavior can be particularly difficult to recognize, as it often appears as genuine care and devotion. Be cautious of relationships that progress too quickly or involve excessive flattery, as these can be signs of love-bombing.
  4. Negging: Negging is a manipulative technique where the perpetrator undermines the victims self-esteem through subtle insults or backhanded compliments. This behavior is intended to make the victim feel insecure and seek validation from the manipulator. To protect yourself from negging, recognize and challenge any negative self-talk that may arise from these comments and assert your boundaries.
  5. Stonewalling: Stonewalling occurs when the manipulator refuses to engage in communication or address issues, often giving the victim the silent treatment. This behavior can be incredibly frustrating and emotionally exhausting for the person on the receiving end. When faced with stonewalling, try to remain calm and communicate your needs assertively, but be prepared to disengage if the manipulator continues to avoid addressing the issue.

Recognizing and understanding the different types of manipulative behavior is essential for protecting yourself from emotional manipulation. By identifying gaslighting, guilt-tripping, love-bombing, negging, and stonewalling, you can take steps to assert your boundaries and maintain healthy relationships. Remember that you deserve respect and honest communication in all aspects of your life, and do not hesitate to seek suppor...

April Meteor Shower Could Bring Up To 20 Meteors An Hour Fireballs Will Fly! "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

A dazzling celestial event awaits skywatchers in April 2023 the Lyrid meteor shower. Known for producing bright, fast-moving meteors, the Lyrids are an annual delight for both casual observers and seasoned astronomers. This article will discuss the Lyrid meteor shower, its peak viewing times, and tips for enjoying the best possible stargazing experience.

The Lyrid Meteor Shower: The Lyrid meteor shower is an annual event that occurs when Earth passes through the debris trail left behind by Comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher. As the debris particles collide with Earths atmosphere, they burn up and create stunning streaks of light known as meteors. The Lyrids have been observed for over 2,500 years, making them one of the oldest known meteor showers.

Peak Viewing Times and What to Expect: In 2023, the Lyrid meteor shower is expected to peak on the night of April 22 and the early morning hours of April 23. At its peak, observers can expect to see between 10 and 20 meteors per hour, although occasional outbursts with higher meteor rates have been recorded in the past. The Lyrids are known for their bright and fast-moving meteors, with some leaving persistent trails or producing fireball events.

Tips for Enjoying the Lyrid Meteor Shower:

  1. Find a dark location: To maximize your chances of seeing the Lyrid meteors, its essential to find a dark location away from city lights and light pollution. Rural areas, parks, or designated dark sky sites are ideal for stargazing.
  2. Give your eyes time to adjust: It takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes for your eyes to adapt to the darkness, enabling you to see fainter meteors. Avoid using bright lights or looking at your phone during this time, as it will hinder your night vision.
  3. Dress appropriately: Depending on your location and the time of year, nighttime temperatures can be chilly. Dress warmly and bring blankets or chairs to ensure a comfortable stargazing experience.
  4. Be patient: Meteor showers can be unpredictable, and the number of meteors you see may vary throughout the night. Give yourself at least an hour of observation time to increase your chances of witnessing the celestial spectacle.
  5. No special equipment needed: The Lyrid meteor shower can be enjoyed with the naked eye no telescopes or binoculars are necessary. Simply lie back, gaze up at the sky, and enjoy the show.

The Lyrid meteor shower of April 2023 offers a spectacular celestial display for skywatchers around the world. By following the tips provided, you can maximize your chances of enjoying a memorable stargazing experience. As you watch the bright meteors streak across the sky, take a moment to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the universe that surrounds us.

People Who Like To Be Alone Have These 6 Special Personality Traits "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

While many people thrive on social interactions, others find solace and contentment in spending time alone. A recent article on NewTraderU.com highlighted six personality traits commonly found in individuals who prefer solitude. This article will delve into these traits and explore the benefits of embracing moments of solitude in our lives.

  1. Self-awareness: People who enjoy being alone often have a heightened sense of self-awareness. They use their alone time to reflect on their thoughts, emotions, and actions, gaining a deeper understanding of themselves. This self-awareness enables them to make better decisions, set achievable goals, and cultivate a sense of inner peace.
  2. Emotional intelligence: Those who appreciate solitude tend to develop strong emotional intelligence. By spending time alone, they learn to recognize and regulate their emotions, as well as empathize with others. This emotional intelligence helps them build healthier relationships and navigate social situations with greater ease.
  3. Creativity: Solitude can be a catalyst for creativity. People who relish time alone often harness their creative potential in various pursuits, such as writing, painting, or composing music. The quiet and peaceful environment allows them to tap into their imagination and generate innovative ideas, enhancing their creative expression.
  4. Independence: Individuals who enjoy being alone often possess a strong sense of independence. They rely on themselves for emotional support, decision-making, and problem-solving. This independence boosts their self-confidence and encourages personal growth, as they learn to navigate lifes challenges without constantly seeking the approval or assistance of others.
  5. Appreciation for meaningful connections: While people who prefer solitude may have fewer social interactions, they often place a higher value on the relationships they do maintain. They seek out deep, meaningful connections with others, rather than pursuing superficial friendships. This focus on quality over quantity allows them to build strong, lasting bonds with those who share their values and interests.
  6. Inner resilience: Spending time alone can build inner resilience. People who embrace solitude learn to cope with their thoughts and emotions independently, fostering mental strength and emotional stability. This inner resilience helps them effectively handle stress, overcome setbacks, and maintain a positive outlook even in challenging circumstances.

The Benefits of Embracing Solitude: While its essential to maintain a balance between social interactions and alone time, embracing moments of solitude can offer numerous benefits. Cultivating self-awareness, emotional intelligence, creativity, independence, and inner resilience allows individuals to lead more fulfilling lives. Moreover, by appreciating meaningful connections, they can develop strong, supportive relationships tha...

An Open Letter To Texas State Senator Lois Kolkhorst "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

<p class="subtitle">"We encourage you to engage further with bitcoin miners to better understand the matter generally and the consequences of your legislation."</p> <p><em>This letter was originally published on <a href= "https://bitcoiner.ghost.io/open-letter-to-texas-senator/">bitcoiner.ghost.io</a>.</em></p> <p>Dear Senator Kolkhorst,</p> <p>As native Texans, we are writing to express concern regarding Texas Senate Bill (SB) 1751, which you co-sponsored and which recently passed a <a href= "https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/88R/billtext/pdf/SB01751S.pdf?ref=bitcoiner.ghost.io"> Business & Commerce Committee vote on April 5, 2023. This open letter follows a private appeal submitted via your office in March. We write as concerned Texas citizens who are independent and do not represent any company or lobby.

From the outside looking in, you seem to be a proud Texan who fights for the rights of all Texans, promoting liberty and freedom consistent with Texan values. SB 1751 is a notable departure, at least in critical aspects, from your past track record. It is misinformed, discriminatory, anti-competitive, harmful to the interests of grid stability, bad for consumers and a strategic setback for Texas.

For context, the bill concerns virtual currency mining and demand response. It seeks to limit the ability of bitcoin miners to participate in compensatory ERCOT programs, which incentivize load reduction, to 10% across all bitcoin miners in total. Prior to sponsoring SB 1751, it is unclear whether you engaged in discussions with bitcoin miners to better understand the matter or expressed any opinions on bitcoin or bitcoin mining at all. It is also unclear whether special interests lobbied for this bill, given you do not appear to have previously taken any positions on bitcoin, but on the merits alone, SB 1751 is problematic.</p> <h2>Misinformed</h2> <p>The bill concerns virtual currency mining as demand response. Really at issue is bitcoin, not virtual currency broadly. There are no miners of any currency other than bitcoin that could be of note participating in demand response programs or promoting grid reliability. Bitcoin is also definitionally not comparable to any other currency, and it is not virtual. Bitcoin is not crypto. Bitcoin is bitcoin, and if bitcoin is at the heart of your bill, a better understanding before legislating would be beneficial.</p> <p>Bitcoin is a form of money with a fixed supply, which is global and permissionless. There will only ever be 21 million bitcoin. That is the basis of its value to the world. As was apparent from a recent tweet, you seem to recognize that inflation is a problem. Inflation is not a political phenomenon. Money is created by the Federal Reserve (Fed). The Fed has increased the money supply <a href= "https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/WTFSRFA?ref=bitcoiner.ghost....

Reclaiming the Story of Free Black Potter Thomas W. Commeraw "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

New-York Historical Societys Crafting Freedom: The Life and Legacy of Free Black Potter Thomas W. Commeraw contextualizes the life of Thomas Commeraw (c. 17711823), a freed Black man who became a prominent potter in New York City. Despite his success, Commeraws identity was misconstrued by scholars as interest in early American pottery rose at the turn of the 20th century. Commeraw was assumed to have been White and of French descent, due in part to the frequent misspelling of his name as Commerau. This misrepresentation was corrected in 2003 when a researcher discovered his name in the 1800 Federal Census, which listed him as Black. The exhibition includes a reproduction of this census, along with vessels, artworks, and ephemera that tell Commeraws personal stories, as well as the collective history of American pottery and the culture and politics of late 18th- and early 19th-century New York.

The exhibition features more than 20 utilitarian stoneware vessels by Commeraw alongside several by other potters from the time. Commeraws workshop produced thousands of objects, competing with the more than a dozen prominent potters working to provide for Manhattans population, which had exploded with European immigrants. His was the only Black-owned pottery business in New York City and he faced discrimination throughout his career. Many of his competitors were long-established, White craftspeople some descendants of the family in whose home he had been enslaved. Over time, the heavy, durable wares became collectible items, surviving due to Commeraws skill and bearing his prominently engraved signature and workshop location, an example of early branding. Fragments of his work have been found across the New Yo...

An Artists Memories of a Haunting Lake "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Growing up in Transylvania, Romania, interdisciplinary artist and physician C Fodoreanu spent his childhood summers with his family at Lake Sacalaia (Lacul tiucilor), often carrying his Leica camera. Ostensibly the deepest freshwater lake in the country (its exact depth is unknown), Sacalaia is full of legends: divers who never returned from their attempts to reach its bottom; a sunken Roman settlement; an underwater village inhabited by ghosts; a drowned basilica whose steeple, on a clear day, might be discerned by rowers. In his first monograph, Ode to the Lake Sacalaia, Fodoreanu explores memories of the lake, its geography, and its mythology through photographs.

Ode is divided into four sections, the first preluded by a series of spiraling aerial photographs that zoom in on the nominal lake, the next with a poem by Fodoreanu, and the final two with essays by art critics Seph Rodney and Shana Nys Dambrot. These essays, which come near the books end, add contextual information about the lake and the artist without giving away Fodoreanus story before his photos can tell it.

The photographs are primarily black and white, haunting and grainy. Many include multiple or long exposures with moving figures; some are almost abstractions. The book begins with childhood photos of family members, rowboats, and reflections on the water. These images are marred by light leaks, inconsistencies in development, and scratches al...

Santa Fes Center for Contemporary Arts Closes Permanently "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

SANTA FE, N. Mex. Until late last week, the Center for Contemporary Arts of Santa Fe (CCA) presented contemporary art and film, including arthouse, indie, and foreign cinema, its historical bread and butter, for over four decades in the high desert. CCAs closure on the evening of Thursday, April 6, was abruptly announced and enacted. A press release announcing the closure and local media coverage cited pandemic mandates and protocols, changing models of film distribution and consumption, and long-standing fundraising issues as prime movers of this cultural institutions demise.

But other reasons including a pandemic-era exacerbation of the nonprofit philanthropy models innate structural inequity, shifting artist and donor demographics, and an institutional identity crisis have received less coverage. According to former CCA Deputy Director April Chalay, who worked for CCA in several positions for over five years, the problems that led to the centers shuttering have existed for a long time.

More Kaspa (KAS) FPGA and ASIC Miners are Coming on the Market "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Osprey Electronics E300 14 GH/s kHeavyHash miner might have been the first FPGA miner on the market for KASPA, but it apparently wont be the only one with more FPGA and ASIC miners for KAS incoming. The E300 was initially priced at $4999 USD and is currently available at $5199 USD with end of May delivery with 400-500 Watts of power usage, but it seems that the device is now facing competition with the MultMiner M2 FPGA miner (apparently a rebranded Blackminer FPGA from HashAltCoin with kHeavyHash support) offering a hashrate of 8 GH/s at 1 kW or 10.5 GH/s at 1.3 kW as well as DigyByte, Tellor, Qitmeer and Kadena support with a price of $2000+ USD. The other new option is apparently called SuperScalar K10 kHeavyHash ASIC miner that promises 30 GH/s hashrate at 1700W of power usage with a price of around $8500-$10000 USD.

All of these FPGA and ASIC miners for KASPA (KAS) are quite expensive and although they do outperform the GPUs that most of us use for mining KAS at the moment, they still might not be a good investment and the reason for that is pretty simple KASPA (KAS) is the only coin that currently uses the kHeavyHash algorithm and its block reward is decreasing steadily each month (check the emission curve for details) and constantly rising hashrate and difficulty. So, going for a very expensive kHeavyHash ASIC miner that cannot mine anything else is very risky and can easily get you to lose money, it is much wiser to invest what you would pay for the hardware to buy KAS instead, that could turn out to be a much better investment. The situation with FPGAs is a bit better as they could in theory be reprogrammed to mine other algorithms and coins, but there is no guaranteed that they will be, so still quite risky and again might be a better choice to go for directly investing in KAS than to buy FPGA or ASIC miner to mine it with it.

Now, if you happen to have an old Blackminer F1, F1mini, F1+, F1mini+, F1-Ultra or an F2 purchased back in the day from HashAltCoin, then you might want to pay attention here...

Skylos: 3D Printed Mud and Straw "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

When visitors to the San Luis Valley in Colorado stay at the Frontier Drive-Inn, they have access to a circle of unique structures that blend ancient materials with modern technology. Cylindrical silos with open air ceilings called Skylos are made out of locally-harvested adobesand, silt, clay, water, and straw. Designed and built by architect Ron Rael, they provide a striking addition to the historic drive-in theater.

The Skylos are a second test run of experiments in 3D printed adobe buildings completed by Rael, a Valley native who has been developing 3D printing with various organic materials and structures for about seven years. Using materials that are ecological, recyclable, low cost, and easily accessible, he has printed with grape skin, coffee, tea, cotton candy, salt,...

She Wants Her Sister To Walk Her Down The Aisle. He Wants A Traditional Wedding. Who Should Compromise? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Weddings are meant to be intensely personal events that represent the bride, the groom, and their coming together for the foreseeable future.

I think its obvious to most people that weve lost sight of that a bit and turned them into parties that are more about putting on a show. That said, I think most people would also agree that the decision of who walks her down the aisle should belong to the bride alone.

This OP was raised by her older sister after their mother passed away. Her sister had a different father, and his family cut her off when she decided to step in as guardian.

I (23F) was raised by my older half sister (32F). I never met my dad and our mom ODd when I was 10 and my sister was 19. My sisters dad was still in her life and was willing to support her, but not me.

My sister chose to be my guardian and her fathers family went low-contact with her as a result. In order to raise me she gave up a lot; her relationship with her father, college, her 20s, and so much more.

Shes been the best sister/mother/guardian/everything to OP and thats who she wants to have walk her down the aisle.

A few months ago I got engaged and I told my sister that in addition to being my maid of honor, I also wanted her to be the one to walk me down the aisle. All my life shes had to fulfill so many roles for me big sister, mother, father, friend that it only felt right that those multiple roles be honored on one of the biggest days of my life.

My sister was ecstatic and so was I, but when I brought it up with my fiance he objected.

Her fiancee and his family think is weird and not traditional. They assumed that her future father-in-law would do the honors.

My future in-la...

People Dangle from Balconies and Scale a Brick Facade in Leandro Erlichs Disorienting Installation "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A detail photo of people occupying Leandro Erlich's disorienting

The Building (2023). All photos by Gus Powell, courtesy of Liberty Science Center, shared with permission

You dont need nine lives to scale the side of this vertigo-inducing structure. The latest installation in Leandro ErlichBtiment series appears to defy gravity with a disorienting facade-turned-optical illusion.

On view now at Liberty Science Center, The Building recreates the exterior of a typical New York City structure with metal balconies, an airconditioning unit propped in a third-story window, and a deli at street level, all of which are positioned on the floor and reflected in a gigantic mirror overhead. When viewers walk into the installation, they appear weightless and are able to effortlessly dangle from railings and stand perpendicular to the brick architecture.

Part of the centers 30th-year anniversary Big Art program alongside Dustin Yellins hefty glass sculpture, the jarring work finds its basis in questions I have about the way we perceive reality, the Argentine artist (previously) says. Art, the way I conceive of it, exists to pose questions about our understanding of the world; in many ways, science achieves what we know it to the same wayby asking those very same questions.

The Building is on view in Jersey City through the summer. You can find more of Erlichs Btiment series, which has been ongoing for more than a decade with projects in Paris,...

Construction Workers Make Kids Day by Filling Toy Truck With Dirt From an Excavator "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Construction Workers Make Kids Day by Filling Toy Truck With Dirt From an Excavator

These construction workers filled a kids toy truck with dirt to make his day
by u/amish_novelty in aww

Depending on your job, you may have the chance to make a kid's day while at work. Or even better, you may have memories of an adult going the extra mile just to make you smile. For a group of construction workers, the opportunity popped up in the form of a toy truck. Excited to see some building work being done in the area, a small boy paid a visit with his tiny truck as if to join the action. What happened next is something that the little one will surely cherish forever.

The heartwarming moment was captured in a video that has since gone viral. Wanting to be a part of it all and hoping to see the big excavator at work, the kid placed his wheeled toy under the big metal claw. The machine operator, moved by it all, obliged and filled the toy truck with dirt. With careful precision, as if it were a crucial part of the construction work being done, he made the little boy's dreams come true. While it's hard to pinpoint the location or the time from the video alone, the giddiness of the kid as the claw slowly fills the mini dump truck is universally endearing. Even the other construction workers stop for a while to witness the cute scene. All the while, the kid's mom holds him firmly to keep everyone safe until the toy truck is full and the claw is still.

While anyone can appreciate the sweetness of a group of adults taking a few minutes to put a smile on a child's face, the video has had all kinds of positive responses. For some, it brought back memories of seeing construction work and big machines when they were little and being blown away. For others, it allowed them to marvel at the unexpected delicacy of the imposing machine (with a Reddit user pointing out that, the bigger the machine, the smoother the movements). If there's one thing we all can agree on, it's that the boy wasn't the only one who benefitted from this tiny action. As one Redditor ...

What Are The Ways To Tell Someone Has No Life? People Responded. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Listen, as someone of a certain age who prefers to go to bed at a certain time, I think having no life is subjective and if youre fine with it, go on with your happy life.

That said, if youre on the market or looking for friends, you might want to be able to gauge compatibility at a glance.

So, here are 15 ways people say you can tell someone has no life.

15. Pretty pathetic, really.

Being a mean girl ever but especially past high school

Its surprising how even at work it feels like high school.

14. Exhausting for everyone.

Only ever talking badly about other people. Had some coworkers like this once and being around them 8 hours a day was f**king DRAINING.

The gossip begins even before theyve clocked in. Ive stopped talking to them about anything except whats necessary for work.

13. Nothing better to do.

People who spend their days arguing with strangers on Facebook.

12. Thats rough.

The guy in my office who monitors how long everyone has been away from their computer.

When we switched from skype to teams at work a manager deadass told me they dont like teams because its harder to track the online status of their employees.

11. The good old days.

Constantly being on social media

I had a dream last night that I was in Barnes and noble as a kid again sitting quietly for hours reading whatever embarrassing shit was out at the time in the young adult emo section. but it made me think like damn I dont read anymore.

It was so much fun growing up but now I just watch hydra...

Photographer Highlights the Vibrant Energy in Portraits From Los Angeles Black Market Flea

Portrait at Black Market Flea by Jason Armond

Photographer Jason Armond arrived at Los Angeles Black Market Flea with a portable orange backdrop and a desire to capture striking portraits of the fleas attendees. Armond is a staff photographer at Los Angeles Times, and the pictures were for a story about the event. Black Market Flea happens once a month (for most of the year) at the Beehive, an event space and hub for technology and entrepreneurship in South Los Angeles. There, Black-owned businesses sell art, clothing, jewelry, and more, and food trucks and a live DJ make the flea market feel like a party.

Armonds portraits feature stylish Black people as they stand in front of his backdrop. Sometimes, he chooses to crop their portraits close, containing their beaming faces and energy within the orange background. In other instances, the backdrop and subject are just one portion of the larger composition, and we get a peek into the greater flea.

The photos at Black Market Flea are part of a larger project by LA Times called BEHOLD. At its core, BEHOLD is a portrait-driven project that celebrates LAs Black society while also providing a platform for people to speak their truth, Armond tells My Modern Met. For years, many Black Angelenos have felt unseen by the LA Times. The BEHOLD project is a small step in the right direction providing a space for LA's Black community to be unapologetically Black.

When we first launched BEHOLD, we...

Vast Landscapes Escape the Edges of Tiny Frames in Barry Hazards Miniature Paintings "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A miniature acrylic painting of a winter landscape in an ornate frame.

Winter Cabin (2021), acrylic and wood on panel with frame, 3 x 3.5 x 1 inches. All images Barry Hazard, shared with permission

Sunlit mountains rise from lush valleys and foam caps the crests of waves in the expansive landscapes of Barry Hazard, painted at a scale that could fit snugly in the palm of your hand. Using wood panel as a base, Hazard builds up sculptural vistas in thick acrylic paint, detailing wildflowers, sandy beaches, and snow-capped peaks. Ranging from a couple of inches to about half a foot, his diorama-like Minis overflow from their tiny frames.

Hazard began working on a small scale during the pandemic when he was invited to participate in a show at Shelter in Place Gallery, a 1:12-scale gallery that operated in 2020 and showcased its exhibitions online when lockdowns made visiting physical exhibitions impossible. He relishes making the Minis because of the sense of immediacy evoked by the medium in such a small surface area. A single brushstroke may capture an entire sky, and an idea or impulse might be completed in minutes or hoursnot days, he says.

Ruling Class Says US is Open To Sending Troops To Taiwan "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

United States ruler, Senator Lindsay Graham said that the government is open to sending troops to Taiwan to ignite a war with China. Graham declared that he would send other people to fight for the island because its a democracy.

Speaking to Fox News on Sunday, Graham claimed that the U.S. policy of strategic ambiguity on Taiwan (under which Washington recognizes, but does not endorse, Chinas sovereignty over the island) is not working, and should be replaced with a formal defense agreement. In other words, Graham wants a war with China and this just might be the way to get it.

So the question for the Congress, should we have a defense agreement with the island of Taiwan? he asked. Id be very much open to using U.S. forces to defend Taiwan because its in our national security interest to do so. I believe in a One China policy, but I would be willing to fight for Taiwan because Taiwan is a democracy, he continued, later adding that the U.S. has an economic incentive to fight China over the island. 90% of the high-end chips are made in Taiwan, he said. [China] would have a monopoly on the digital economy.

According to a report by RT, Graham additionally said that he would support the sale of U.S.-made fighter jets to Taipei, and would back the movement of war forces to South Korea and Japan.

There are currently several dozen U.S. troops stationed in Taiwan, and the Wall Street Journal reported in February that Washington plans to increase this number to between 100 and 200.

Grahams position on Taiwan is hawkish but in line with that of a growing number of both Democrats and Republicans. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy met with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in California on Wednesday. Meanwhile, during a visit to Taipei on Friday, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul told Fox News that Congress would authorize military action against China in the event of an invasion of Taiwan. RT

The U.S. ruling class continues to up the ante with war rhetoric like they desperately want to send people off to kill and be killed for them. Graham is a longtime advocate of military intervention, war, and regime change. Last year, he called for the assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Steak is like sex, is like art: bloody; gets you high; is disgusting if you think about it for too long. And blue steak, then, is like sex work: a carefully crafted artifice that allows for the presentation of something ostensibly raw to the consumer, without the risks of actual raw consumption. The person who orders blue steak feels it as real, and animal, though it is sanitized, and carefully so.

In SoHo, there is a boutique hotel whose rooms are blue. Blue carpet, blue ceiling, blue-patterned sheets. I met a client there several years ago, when I still had short bangs. I wore a vintage skirt-and-top setblack, with colorful flowersand black lingerie from lAgent, the now-defunct, less expensive little sister brand to Agent Provocateur. My client wanted our time together to feel like a movie. He didnt say this, but his behavior made it clear. He booked me for only an hour but wanted an experiential arc: he sat me first in the small living room area of his suite, presenting liquor he had put on ice for me. Music played softly through the rooms sound system: Nothings Gonna Hurt You Baby by Cigarettes After Sex, a song that Id only ever heard as the background of a bad television show. He moved me into the bedroom, bantering, as though he had to charm me. I have absolutely no recollection of what he looked like or what his name was. This isnt because I was seeing so many clients I couldnt keep track, but because its useless information to retain after the fact. I remember how he behavedthe only salient thingwhich was annoying, and also standard, fine. I overstayed our appointment because the sex refused to end, as happens often with older men who want to paw at a young woman but dont quite care whether or not they finish, and certainly not in the allotted time. Nothings Gonna Hurt You Baby returned to the playlist; it was looping, as was the experience.

The complexity of the world todaywith emergencies related to climate, health, migration, and moredemands that we bring together all the available tools and disciplines for reflection and action. How can knowledge be interwoven to expand our understanding of the world and broaden our imaginations, to look to the future on an international scale? Research-creation, or practice-based research, is a relatively recent field between theoretical and applied research associating experimental, exploratory, and critical approaches and practices while privileging sensorial experience. Through installations, dispositifs, and performances, new methodological tools are being created to access sources of shared knowledge and to explore contemporary transformations aesthetically.

How can we go beyond text in communicating these findings at the intersections of art, design, and science? The traditional methodologies and formats of journal articles are not always adapted to research that explores sensorial and singular forms.

Max Keiser, Crypto Willy Wonka, Is Ready To Seize The Moment At Bitcoin 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Max Keiser, who now works in El Salvadors National Bitcoin Office, discusses his upcoming appearance at the Bitcoin 2023 conference.

Even among hundreds of speakers, unique activations and viral moments, Max Keiser has become a cant-miss aspect of the Bitcoin Conference event series. During Bitcoin 2019, he emphatically ripped up a $10 bill for CNBC Africa, he was labeled crypto Willy Wonka on the Daily Show following his energetic appearance at Bitcoin 2021 and he set a probable record for on-stage f-bombs during the F*ck You Money panel at Bitcoin 2022.

Keisers unique stage presence might seem improvised, but a media career that has spanned decades and produced television content for the BBC, Al-Jazeera and RT alongside his wife and business partner Stacy Herbert indicates that he knows what hes doing. As does his current mission with Herbert, working alongside El Salvador President Nayib Bukele to make one of the Bitcoin Conferences most promising announcements an effective reality for millions: In November 2022, Bukele announced that the two would help establish the countrys National Bitcoin Office.

You know in Star Wars, when they jump to hyperspace? Thats whats happening in El Salvador, Keiser explained in an interview with Bitcoin Magazine. Bitcoin plus Bukele, with some help from Max and Stacy, has catapulted the country into becoming Bitcoin Maximalist Country.

Keiser is quick to note that Bukele, who is everywhere and pushing everything forward 24/7 is almost impossible to keep up with, but he evangelizes the presidents country with equal vigor.

El Salvador is the ark, Keiser said. All are welcome while theres still room. I expect the airport to be packed with fiat money refugees soon. Give us your tired, your weary, your banked-to-death poor, huddling in the casino gulag.

This anti-central-banking message, which Keiser has been sharing in some form or another throughout much of his career, seems particularly prescient in the run up to Bitcoin 202...

Is Another Jesus Revolution Upon Us? | Greg Laurie | The Glenn Beck Podcast | Ep 180 "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

We need a spiritual awakening in America so bad right now, Pastor Greg Laurie tells Glenn on this Easter weekend episode of The Glenn Beck Podcast. Our society has abandoned God and embraced sin but hes seen this before. Back in the 1960s and 70s, Greg was a part of possibly the biggest Christian movement in American history, now dubbed the Jesus Revolution, when hippies gave up their LSD and embraced Jesus Christ. Its now at the heart of the recent film The Jesus Revolution, featuring Kelsey Grammer and Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in The Chosen. Greg tells Glenn just how similar todays America is to the era of the Jesus Revolution and why he believes we might be poised to see another spiritual awakening very soon. He and Glenn also discuss the importance of family and parenthood, especially given everything children struggle with today. And he reveals some of the events only God could have orchestrated that led to the filming of Jesus Revolution, including the true and tragic story of Lonnie Frisbee. But, as Greg tells Glenn, its often the greatest tragedies that bring total redemption.

Crazy and RABID: This RADICAL Trans Mob Just Attacked Swimmer Riley Gaines | Glenn TV | Ep 267 "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

Riley Gaines, a swimmer and outspoken opponent of men in womens sports, was recently ambushed by pro-trans activists and forced to flee a speech in California. But this, Glenn explains, is just the latest example of a disturbing trend within the transgender community, which he argues is fueled by the media. However, the insanity doesnt stop there. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby was pressed on the Biden administrations disastrous actions in the Afghanistan withdrawal, and his defensive statements left Glenn speechless. And Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen appeared to say the quiet part out loud regarding the Inflation Reduction Act.

Pour Too Much Coffee in This Mug and It Will Start Crying

Crying Mug

Wask | $35.01

Do you have a tendency of drinking too much coffee? Well, there's a mug that will let you know when enough is enough. Overflow the Flooded With Emotions Mug and the extra brew will leak from its two round eyes, making it look like the cup is crying.

Designed by Wask, this funny mug features a minimalist design with a smiley face and two perforated eyeholes by the brim. When you keep the coffee below a certain level, the mug remains happy-looking. But pour a little too much joe in the cup and the coffee will trickle out of the eyes like tears. It will surely make any coffee lover laugh.

Due to the nature of this mug, you'll want to make sure you're cautious about touching the hot liquid. In addition to making sure the coffee doesn't overflow, another important thing to keep in mind is which side you drink your coffee from. Pick the wrong side, and the mug will end up crying on you! So, to be safe, Wask recommends drinking from the back of the cup where there are no hopefully pop up in the next batch of sales.

You can find the Flooded With Emotions Mug in the Wask store for CA$35.01 (about US$25.90).

The Flooded With Emotions Mug has a lot of feelings.

Baby Tooth Biomarker Exhibits Abnormal Inflammatory Regulation in Autism Spectrum Disorder "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

New Study Shows Third Trimester as a Critical Period for Inflammatory Regulation

Previous research suggests that strong inflammatory states are associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Other investigations have proposed that inflammation could be linked to the etiology of many neurodegenerative diseases, including autism. Until now, determining when atypical inflammatory regulation begins has not been possible. However, a new study involving Dr. Manish Arora and other researchers may have found an approach to determine when this abnormal process begins. The authors presented a method that could generate approximately daily profiles of prenatal and early childhood inflammation as measured by developmentally archived C-reactive protein (CRP) in incremental layers of deciduous (i.e., baby) tooth dentin. CRP is one of the most commonly studied biomarkers of inflammation. The protein has also been implicated in the development of ASD. Using a group of Swedish twins as research subjects, the authors found heightened inflammation CRP markers in tooth dentin in the third trimester of children with future ASD diagnosis relative to controls (n = 66; 14 ASD cases; critical window: 90 to 50 days before birth). To confirm their finding, the authors ran a replication study in the United States and observed a similar increase in CRP in ASD cases during the third trimester (n = 47; 23 ASD cases; 128 to 21 days before birth). The authors believe their findings indicate that the third trimester is critical for atypical fetal inflammatory regulation in ASD, especially for male fetuses. They also suggest that, unlike prior studies, their study shows that the prenatal inflammatory signal comes from the fetal rather than the maternal environment.

Higher Levels of Lithium in Drinking Water Linked to Cases of Autism "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

Investigation Finds Maternal Prenatal Exposure Is Associated with a 23% Increase Risk of ASD in Offspring

According to a new population-based, case-control study from Denmark, pregnant women whose household tap water had higher levels of lithium experienced a moderately higher risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in their offspring. The authors believe their research is the first to identify naturally occurring lithium in drinking water as a possible environmental risk factor for autism. The current study included 8842 children born from 2000 through 2013 that received an ASD diagnosis, along with 43,864 control participants matched by birth-year and sex from the Danish Medical Birth Registry. The authors then geocoded all maternal residential addresses in the Danish Civil Registration System from 9 months before until 9 months after pregnancy. The studys design also controlled for maternal characteristics, some socioeconomic factors, and air pollution exposures. The studys key finding demonstrated that as lithium levels in drinking water increased, so did the risk of autism diagnosis in pregnant womens offspring.  The authors also discovered the association between lithium levels and autism risk was slightly more substantial for families living in urban areas compared to smaller towns and rural areas. Denmarks consumption of bottled water is among the lowest in Europe. Interestingly, lithium concentrations in Danish drinking water (range 0.6-30.7 g/L) were similar to those reported in U.S. drinking water. One of the studys author, David Bellinger PhD, MSc, of Boston Childrens Hospital and Harvard Medical School, pointed out that lithium levels are likely to increase worldwide due to mining to produce lithium-ion batteries for the growing number of electric vehicles. Due to the production of these batteries, excess lithium will  eventually enter the waste stream and could contribute to lithium contamination of water supplies that could increase the risk of autism in the future.

Drawing inspiration from the systems and networks that connect us to one another, the world around us, and realms we cant even see, Dustin Yellin (previously) encases detailed narratives between numerous layers of glass. At the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, Yellins 10,000-pound The Politics of Liberty explores historical timepast, present, and futureas part of the centers 30th anniversary Big Art program.

As the founder and director of Pioneer Works, a multidisciplinary center with a mission to build community through the arts and sciences, Yellin is no stranger to exploring ways that art can educate and communicate about important topics. Using paint and clippings from print media, the Brooklyn-based artist creates elaborate, allegorical scenes that tap into viewers emotions and consciousness and encourage new ways of thinking about society and its infrastructures. Yellin embraces interdisciplinary approaches and says the Big Art initiative demonstrates the fundamental belief in the ability of ideas to exist fluidly across different domains, inviting us to consider the different ways in which an understanding of our universe can be expressed and to feel the expanses of our minds.

Health Canada issues advisory for face masks containing graphene "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Health Canada has issued an advisory and asked distributors to recall masks sold with graphene or biographene in them over potential inhalation risks. Graphene is comprised of a single layer of carbon atoms and is considered a nanomaterial, meaning it is made of tiny particles, and is reported to have antiviral and antibacterial properties, the advisory says. Health Canada said it conducted a preliminary scientific assessment after becoming aware that masks containing graphene were being sold with COVID-19 health claims and used by adults and children in schools and daycares. Health Canada also believes they may have been distributed for use in health care settings. The products affected are listed as face masks labelled as containing graphene or biomass graphene, the advisory states. Health Canada recommends that Canadians not use masks with the substance and to consult their health-care provider if they have used graphene face masks and have health concerns - such as new or unexplained shortness of breath, discomfort or difficulty breathing. The specific mask model under review, #SNN200642, is the same model for which Health Canada received a complaint from a concerned citizen raising a question about the potential health risks. The organization said that their preliminary assessment of available research found that inhaled graphene particles had some potential to cause early lung toxicity in rats and other animals, but that the potential for people to inhale graphene particles and the related health risks are not yet known, and may vary with based on mask design. The health risk to people of any age is not clear, the advisory says, as there are many variables such as duration of exposure and...

Good Friday: Violence and Trigger Warnings "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Essendon Baptist Community Church 2023

Theme: Once for All

Readings: Matthew 27:27-34 and Isaiah 53:4-6

Reflection / Intro. to Prayer of Confession:

Good Friday should come with a trigger warning  graphic violence and torture.

You make it part of your Easter to come to church with your family. You hear the bible read and like the co-opted bystander in the story, Simon from Cyrene, the violence is thrust upon you like a cross, in your face, and with weight! And the trauma counsellors are right when they say The body keeps the score.

Have you ever chosen the wrong movie for the kids.  You thought it was good, and it ended up being too violent and as you turn it off or over you think. Why? Couldnt the creator have done it another way?

William Temple once mentioned people who reject faith saying I cant believe because if God looked at the world and its violence and suffering his heart would break.  He replied that Christians point to the cross and say It did break.

In a violent world of real pain, could you really worship a God who is immune?

The cross shows us God is not the cause of violence, but endures it. Whose desire was, and is, and will always be to be with us. Whos vulnerability in being open to violence means they are also open to the possibility of a loving relationship with creation, you and me. A power dynamic sadly reflected to us in the tragic epidemic of what we describe in our society as (Good Friday trigger warning) intimate partner violence.

Processing their own trauma of what they went through, witnessing what happened to Jesus at this event, his followers looked back to the Hebrew Bible and the prophet Isaiah we heard read who said by his stripes we are healed. But how?

Im about to watch a movie with images of this cross carrying passage weve heard read that leads us into a prayer of confession in video form called The Weight of Sin created by Travis Reed from The Work of the People, created to be song Hurt.

Were only doing the instrumental in church today, not the lyrics of the song, to minimise the trauma triggers.  Its a song Trent Reznor wrote in a time of deep depress...

Personal Restoration Renovation and Conservation: On Perspective "IndyWatch Feed Craft"

Personal Restoration Renovation and Conservation: On Perspective

For more than a decade we have been taking our family to Southern Utah for Spring Break.

This year was no exception.

But I knew this year would be different.bittersweet.

You see, this year my oldest is a senior in high school which meant this would be his last spring break with us.so I wanted this year to be extra special.

As this vacation was approaching we talked about all the things we wanted to do on this last family spring breakmy sons favorite hikes, spots to visit, and places to eat. We knew exactly what we wanted to dowe have been to this same location dozens of timesand our plan was flawless.

Mix this planned trip down memory lane with the fact that the weather in Southern Utah is usually sunny and beautiful this time of year (unlike the blanket of snow and grey skies we were under at home) and you have a recipe for the perfect spring break. Unfortunately, sometimes recipes arent followed

We arrived at our destination Sunday night, settled in, and woke up Monday morning to cloudy skies, low temperatures and wind. So we grabbed our jackets and set out for our first hike. By the time we arrived at the trail it was snowing and the wind was blowing. We passed people in the parking lot hustling back to their cars. But this is our favorite hike.this was our planand so we set off.

And FROZE!

Brace Yourselves For An Economic Avalanche, Because A Major Credit Crunch Has Already Begun "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog.

This is moving even faster than a lot of us thought that it would.  For weeks, I have been warning my readers about the coming credit crunch.  When banks get into trouble, they start getting really tight with their money.

That means fewer mortgages, fewer commercial real estate loans, fewer auto loans, and fewer credit cards being issued.  But I thought that it would take some time for the credit crunch to fully kick into high gear.  Unfortunately, I was wrong about that.  In fact, it is being reported that during the last two weeks of March bank lending in the United States contracted by the most on record

US bank lending contracted by the most on record in the last two weeks of March, indicating a tightening of credit conditions in the wake of several high-profile bank collapses that risks damaging the economy.

In other words, we have never seen bank lending shrink faster than it did during the second half of March.

Wow.

And it turns out that small banks are getting particularly tight with their money

Commercial bank lending dropped nearly $105 billion in the two weeks ended March 29, the most in Federal Reserve data back to 1973. The more than $45 billion decrease in the latest week was primarily due to a a drop in loans by small banks.

The pullback in total lending in the last half of March was broad and included fewer real estate loans, as well as commercial and industrial loans.

As I have noted previously, small and mid-size banks provide the bulk of commercial real estate loans in this country.

We are already starting to see prices for commercial real estate plunge, and now Morgan Stanley is warning that the drop that we will ultimately see could rival the decline during the 200...
