Striking Contemporary Art Museum in Orange County Epitomizes Southern California Living
Clad in white terracotta tiles, the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) cuts a striking figure at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. Designed by American architectural firm Morphosis, the 53,000-square-foot museum opened to the public in October 2022. Not only does the building house OCMA's collection of over 4,500 objects, but it also provides areas for education, exhibitions, and events, as well as a grand staircase intended to function as a community space.
In true Southern California form, the building's architecture has a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor space. Large windows that break up the terracotta facade allow streams of light to pour into the interior. Visitors are welcomed into an open, airy atrium and are then invited to walk up a grand staircase to a spacious upper plaza on the roof terrace. Designed to be used for events and exhibitions, the plaza takes up nearly 70 percent of the museum's footprint.
The museum's gallery spaces have been mainly organized at ground level as storefronts in an effort to connect pedestrians to the collection. There are also smaller, more intimate galleries, that connect to the mezzanine via a sky bridge.
In terms of materials, the selection of tile, glass, and steel gives OCMA a sleek, futuristic feel. The firm designed the exterior facade to play with the color and forms of the surrounding architecture, in order to blend into the environment.
By creating a gradient of architectural intensity, from complex forms at the museums entry to rectilinear and flexible forms within the galleries, the building is a memorable and striking environment for formal and informal experiences with art, states Morphosis.

reclaimed history of the deep past of Indigenous people in North
and South America during the Paleolithic. Paulette F. C. Steeves
mines evidence from archaeology sites and Paleolithic environments,

that people have been in the Western Hemisphere not only just prior
to Clovis sites (10,200 years ago) but for more than 60,000 years,

Dr. Paulette Steeves. Ph.D. (Cree- Metis) is an Indigenous
archaeologist with a focus on the Pleistocene history of the
Western Hemisphere. In her research, Steeves argues that Indigenous
peoples were present in the Western Hemisphere as early as 100,000
years ago, and possibly much earlier. She has created a database of
hundreds of archaeology sites in both North and South America that
date from 250,000 to 12,000 years before present, which challenges
the Clovis First dogma of a post 12,000 year before present initial
migrations to the Americas.
Steeves received her BA Honors Cum Laude in 2000 at the University
of Arkansas at Fayetteville. In 2008 Dr. Steeves was awarded the
Clifford D. Clark fellowship to attend graduate studies at
Binghamton University in New York State and was awarded her Masters

In the summer of 1987, 30 of the world's top artists came together to create Luna Lunathe world's first modern art amusement park. Located in Hamburg, Germany, the event attracted legendary artists like Salvador Dal, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Over the course of 13 weeks, more than 240,000 people visited this unique take on a traditional amusement park.
And now, for the first time, the English translation of the original text published about the event had been made available. LUNA LUNA: The Art Amusement Park, published by Phaidon, includes a preface by creator and author Andr Heller. Aside from photographs of the installation, the book also includes the moon graphics and short text that each artist was asked to create for the promotion of the event. Thankfully, those works have now been dusted off and can be viewed once again.
Phaidon's book is a wonderful way to reintroduce the landmark event to the public, especially considering the history of Luna Luna. Originally conceived as a touring exhibition destined for multiple countries, a change in leadership and subsequent litigation made for a sad end. Instead of traveling the world, these incredible pieces of art were shuttered away for over three decades.

One of the most prolific architects of the 20th century, Frank Lloyd Wright had no shortage of ideas. Throughout his life, he designed 1,171 architectural works. Many of them, like the Guggenheim Museum and Fallingwater, were eventually built. But over half660 to be exactnever moved beyond paper. Now, thanks to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, we are finally getting a look at what his unbuilt architecture would have looked like.
Working with digital artist David Romero, the organization has been building an impressive library of renderings that show Wright's creative genius. From the Butterfly Bridge that would have connected San Francisco and Oakland to the floating cabins of the Lake Tahoe Summer Colony, it's clear that Wright's creativity had no limits.
The reasons that these pieces of incredible architecture were never built vary. In 1957, Wright's homage to his adopted home state of Arizona was rejected for several reasons. While Wright considered his avant-garde design for the Arizona State Capitol Building to be a gift to the city, officials felt otherwise. Deemed too ornate and, with a price tag of $5 million, too costly, he was passed over for the project.

A parent who homeschooled his four children for two decades reflects on the parallels between Bitcoin and sovereign education.
This is an opinion editorial by Scott Lindberg, a parent who homeschooled four children over 20 years with his wife, and cofounder of Free Market Kids, a company that teaches Bitcoin concepts through tabletop games.
My wife, Tali, and I recently presented educational information about Bitcoin to homeschoolers for three days at a homeschooling convention in St. Louis, Missouri. We hosted an exhibition booth and led a workshop session and the event didnt go exactly as expected.
The Context For Self-Custody Of Education
Bitcoin has clarified misconceptions in energy, economics, diet and countless other fields, but education is another obvious area in need of an overhaul of truth. At least, this is obvious in hindsight, once you have embraced Bitcoin.
Tali and I have always been fired up about taking self custody of education, but we didnt describe it this way when we started. We have four grown children who we homeschooled for 20 years. When we started, it was just schooling. But thanks to going down the Bitcoin rabbit hole, we now have a more precise framework to explain self custody of education and its significance.
The ways that Bitcoiners and homeschoolers think are incredibly similar for reasons Ill explain here. I am more bullish on this community than ever, but we have work to do. Just as the bitcoin mining and energy sectors are merging, so too will Bitcoiners and homeschoolers eventually merge.

A prominent celebrity megachurch in Seattle, Washington, faces a lawsuit for allegedly forcing its employees to donate a portion of their wages back to the organization, or they risk being fired.
An employee of Kirkland-based Churchome was told her job was in jeopardy if she failed to tithe or donate 10% of her earnings back to the church.

Employee Rachel Kellogg accused Churchome and its leaders in her lawsuit, filed in the third week of March at the King County Superior Court, of being engaged in a systemic scheme of wage and hour abuse against their employees, which includes the requirement for all employees to donate 10% of their gross monthly wages as tithe or the employees would face pressure, discipline, or even termination.
Previously working for the churchs video and production department, Kellogg was unaware of the policy until after she was hired in 2019. The lawsuit claims that the policy violates Washington states Consumer Protection Act and other labor laws.
Regardless of whether this is a church, or not a church, or a nonprofit or a for-profit corporation, requiring employees to rebate any wages to an employer is an unlawful practice, Eric Nusser said. He is one of Kelloggs lawyers working for the Terrell Marshall Law Group.
Kelloggs lawsuit includes conversations between her and other Churchome employees who told her about the mandatory tithe policy, along with a reprimand from her supervisor regarding the expectation that you get in rhythm with our company policy on tithing. Kellogg said she had to stop tithing due to financial struggles after a car accident in 2020.

A senior high school student in the Philippines was condemned for his Twitter post. He made a food review of the consecrated communion wafer given to him during Holy Mass and even described the taste as similar to cornflakes.
In the post of the now-deleted Twitter account of the student of the Ateneo de Manila University Senior High School (ADMU-SHS), a food review was made of the consecrated host, where he judged the wafer based on characteristics such as design, taste, and crispness. The unnamed student even gave the wafer a rating of 7.1 out of 10.
The white wafer, known as communion bread among Catholics, is offered as the Body of Christ during the Holy Communion to mass attendees. During Mass, the priest consecrates the bread and wine for transubstantiation into the Body and Blood of Christ, respectively.
Reports differ on how the student could smuggle the communion wafer out of the church. Some suggested that the student stole the host by taking the consecrated wafer during Mass and putting the bread in their pocket before the end of Mass, where the student took a picture of the consecrated host before writing the post.

Mandatory electronic animal identification burdens farmers and ranchers with significant costs while doing nothing to address food safety or animal disease concerns. The real reason for the rule is to enable the meat packers to increase their export markets and their control of the U.S. cattle industry. The rule will not improve animal traceability and will hurt efforts to build a resilient food system.
The opposition to the USDA rule is having an effect; USDA has extended the public comment until April 19, 2023, which gives you an opportunity to add your name in support of the comments FARFA is making. You can view the letter here.

Some people excel at training their dogs to do tricks like rolling over, standing up, or giving a paw; but what about training them to do skateboard tricks? Cabbage (aka Bai Cai) is a white French Bulldog who has mesmerized the Internet by skating like an absolute pro. This is more than just a cute pup posing on a skateboard. Cabbage fully seems to understand how to push off, keep his balance, make turns, and even skate down stairs. Its no wonder that some are calling him Tony Dawg.
At home, Cabbage is described as a very gentle dog who always seems to be in a good mood, and doesn't bark very often. But he took social media by storm after the first videos of him going for a ride and cleverly avoiding obstacles popped up online. Like any skater who takes it seriously, Cabbage is quite stylish, donning patterned shirts, jerseys, and even sunglasses or chains as he speeds through town.
But how did this french bulldog learn to skate? According to the South China Morning Post, his owner, Zhao Chen, who is also a skater, began training him in 2020. At first, I used snacks to lure him to stay on the board, Zhao says. Then, I taught him how to skate with one paw. Once he picked up the skills, he became very interested and just kept skating on his own. After just 20 days of practice, Cabbage was already skating by himself. To make up for his size and in order to move smoothly, he stays on the very front of the board.
To polish his skateboarding abilities, Cabbage visits the park every morning, where he skates alongside his human for 15 minutes. While he seems very proficient and ready to tackle more complex stuff, Zhao doesn't want to push him to learn more tricks that could be too much for him. If Cabbage can do some exercise and make a few people smile, that's more than enough. While Cabbage and I are having fun, I want to bring laughter to others too, Zhao shares. Sadly, the older I get the more I have to accept that theyre not and also that there are a lot of people out there being treated poorly in their relationships.
This OP is a real piece of work, if you ask me. He admits up front that even though he and his wife both used to work (and that she used to out earn him), she was recently able to quit her job.
Her nan, who raised her, passed and left her a significant inheritance, which she spent buying them a new house, new cars, and saving for retirement.
She also decided to stay home because she has a disability that made working hard.
Before the birth of our daughter, my wife and I both worked full time in low-middle earning jobs with my wife earning a bit more than I but not by much.
My wife returned to work out of necessity when our daughter was 3 months old. Her mental health became pretty bad and she has a minor disability that makes work life a little hard and she found it a bit worse after having our daughter but we had to do what we had to do.
My wifes nan who sort of raised her and was her only family passed away sadly when our daughter was 6 months old. My wife inherited everything she owned. It was a big inheritance. Not enough for us both to immediately retire but a lot. Enough for us to buy a decent house outright, a new car each and to put some away for a comfortable retirement.
Shortly after her nan died, my wife stopped working and became a stay at home mom. Partially due to grief and struggles at her job, and a bit because she always would have preferred to stay home with our daughter.

One family in New Jersey lived every parent's worst nightmare, but luckily there was a happy ending. Four-year-old Parker and his father Jason were making cupcakes when his dad stepped out to use the bathroom. After being gone for a few minutes, Jason returned to the kitchen, but Parker was nowhere to be found. That's when panic set in as Jason realized that his son and their black lab Toby had wandered out the back door.
Jason immediately called his wife Vickey to let her know that he couldn't find Parker. She told him to call the police as she raced home. Their home is surrounded by woods and leads onto a golf course. After an hour of searching, they were still unable to find their toddler or Toby. Luckily, a neighbor heard a boy crying in the woods and called over the state troopers.
The bodycam of the first trooper to reach the boy captured the incredible moment when Parker was found. While he was shaken up and crying, he was otherwise unharmed and ran straight into his mother's arms. In fact, the thing he seemed most upset about was the fact that he'd lost his shoe, crying out, I want my shoe!
Parker and Toby were about a quarter of a mile from their home when there were found, and Parker confirmed that his dog never left his side. Toby was also crucial to the rescue, as Ian Emmi, the state trooper who found the duo, first spotted the dog in the woods.
Originally saw the dog jumping around doing circles so I figured he had to be close by if the dog was there, Emmi said.
Vickey acknowledged that the experience was a reminder that things can change in the blink of an eye. To ensure that Parker and Toby won't be going on any more unauthorized adventures, they've since upgraded the security in their home and added alarms that go off when doors are opened.

The Arkansas Data Centers Act of 2023 would create guidelines for bitcoin miners and would aim to prevent fraudulent business practices.
The bill proposes that a Bitcoin mining business may operate in the state if it complies with state laws concerning business guidelines and tax policies, any ordinances concerning operations and safety, any rules or rates for utility service provided by or on behalf of a public entity, and state and federal employment laws. The bill also proposes that miners will be required to pay applicable taxes and government fees in acceptable forms of currency and operate in a manner that causes no stress on an electric public utilitys generation capabilities or transmission network. The bill further allows individuals to operate home Bitcoin mining according to applicable utility rules and rates.
The bill aims to recognize that data centers create jobs, pay taxes and provide general economic value to local communities and the state. It clarifies the guidelines needed to protect Bitcoin miners from discriminatory industry-specific regulations and taxes. The proposed bill has defined several key terms such as "digital asset" that means Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. It also defines "digital asset miner" as an individual who mines for digital assets and "digital asset mining" as the use of electricity to power a computer for the purpose of securing or validating a blockchain network.
The proposed bill further clarifies that "digital asset mining business" means a group of computers working at a single site that consumes more than one megawatt (1MW) on an average annual basis for the purpose of generating digital assets by securing a blockchain network. It also defines "node" as a computational device that contains a copy of blockchain-distributed ledger technology. The bill defines "residence" as a permanent dwelling place, unit, or accessory structure.

Greek police and intelligence officers revealed that the two men, aged 27 and 29, were of Pakistani origin and were recruited by a man wanted for murder in Iran to carry out attacks against the Chabad of Athens center in the neighborhood of Psirri, in central Athens.
The center is part of the larger Chabad-Lubavitch international movement. It also hosts a synagogue, a grocery store, and a kosher restaurant.
Authorities also discovered that the two men worked manual jobs in Attica and the countryside, where they were part of a Pakistani jihadi group operating in Athens. Greek police and intelligence officers subsequently dismantled the terrorist organization.
According to Greek intelligence sources, the two arrested Pakistanis lived in Zakynthos and Sparta in recent years and came from the Punjab, where their leader, who lives permanently in Tehran, is from. All the suspects are Shi'ites.

So they are salty. The teaspoon of salt seems to be a happy place of salty but not too salty. But I could see some folks wanting less salt if they arent used to the higher salt recommendations of the Weston A. Price Foundation or using salt to help with hydration during the sweaty summer days. The texture is a thicker creamy jello and I like it a lot. Making these little owls has been a really easy way to get some good nutrient density on the go, Ill grab a couple as I head out the door for work or put a couple in my cooler to eat after lunch. Ingredients
- 1 cup raw cream (I poured it off the top of gallon of raw milk from my herdshare, but raw milk will work too)
- 3 pasture raised egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup (You can also add molasses too for the added minerals. Ive added a couple droppers of liquid fulvic and humic minerals and to a few batches and I liked that too)
- teaspoon himalayan salt (or to taste)
- ~ A thumb of frozen grass fed beef liver, grated, (about a tablespoon of frozen grated raw liver, or to taste) ( a microplane works really well for grating the frozen raw liver, I love this trick for adding liver to things like soup or scrambled eggs too)
- teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons grass fed gelatin (I used Great Lakes Wellness and I love their gelatin)
- cold water to bloom gelatin
- cup just boiled water
Instructions
- In a bowl combine the raw cream, egg yolks, maple syrup, himalayan salt, grated liver, and cinnamon.
- Bloom 3 tablespoons of gelatin in cup cold water. Youre going to have to stir that pretty well, its going to be pretty thick, let bloom for five minutes.
- Pour the cup just boiled water into the bloomed gelatin and stir well. Stir until smooth and all clumps are mixed in. At this point your gelatin mixture should be just warm and not hot. Pour gelatin mixture into your raw cream mixture and mix thoroughly.
- Pour into mold and let set up until firm in the fridge.

Immersive Tim Burton Exhibition Is a Labyrinth Into His Creative Genius
Filmmaker and artist Tim Burton is known for his whimsical films that incorporate humor and macabre. He's directed hit movies since the 1980s, making his work beloved by people across generations and the globe. Now, an exhibition is paying homage to this visionary. Called Tim Burtons Labyrinth, its an immersive experience that brings viewers into the universe of Burtons creative genius.
Visitors to Tim Burtons Labyrinth traverse a massive exhibition space that takes them through the different worlds of films including Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Mars Attacks, Wednesday, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The different rooms are filled with original artworks by Burton along with specially created sculptures and animations. Fans of the directors work will appreciate the exaggerated cartoonish characters and surreal spaces, delighting in the fact that some of the works have never been seen before.
As the name suggests, the exhibition layout is a labyrinth. Visitors decide their path out of more than 300 possible routes, allowing for myriad ways to interact withand most importantly, enjoythe work and atmosphere.
Tim Burtons Labyrinth began in Madrid and will soon be moving to the Parc de La Villette in Paris. It will be on view from May 19 until August 20, 2023. Tickets are required to attend.

Speak up for a good bill in the Alaska legislature that would give patients the right to have support persons present while also protecting the support person from vaccine mandates.
Specifically,HB 52 would prevent hospitals, mental health facilities, long-term care facilities, or hospices from requiring a support person to provide proof of the support persons vaccination or immunization status.
The Alaska No Patient Left Behind Act (HB 52) is especially important because so many people were denied access to visitation by support persons during Covid. Many patients died alone in hospitals without anyone to advocate for them.

- The person is an executive officer for a pharmaceutical company and is eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- The person introduces a vaccine produced by the pharmaceutical company into the market.
- The person knowingly hides, conceals, omits, or otherwise withholds evidence, documentation, or information that the vaccine has dangerous effects.
- Another person receives the vaccine in this state through a vaccination containing the vaccine.
- The vaccination causes the death of or serious physical injury to the other person.
Executive officer is defined as a president, chair of an executive committee, chief financial officer, or another individual with managerial authority who performs similar functions to a president, chair of an executive committee, or chief financial officer.
Vaccine harm is defined as an unclassified felony with a sentence of imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than life.

I had recently begun attending Sarah Lawrence College when Anzia Yezierskas novel Bread Givers was rst introduced to me. I was twenty years old, but as a married Orthodox Jewish woman with a one-year-old child to show for myself instead of a high school diploma, I had been enrolled in the continuing education program for one year in order to prepare for proper matriculation. The blunt hairline of my voluminous wig paired with my over-the-knee skirts would have been enough to render me the exotic outsider to my worldly classmates even if I hadnt revealed my heavy accent or my ignorance of basic cultural references. So when an older classmate who hadnt previously made much effort at conversing with me thrust the worn paperback into my hands, I was caught unawares by her sudden attention.

Eyeing the title and the unfamiliar name of the author, I shook my head in bemusement. Is this some famous classic, I asked, some essential part of the canon Ive missed and need to catch up on?
She laughed. Not really, she answered. But back when I was in college the rst time around, some acquaintances of mine were instrumental in its republication, so thats how I know about it. I came across it again recently while I was spring cleaning, but you know how it is with coincidences. They rarely are. I thought of you immediately; I felt strongly that this book was meant for you.
Taking that portentous statement on its merit, I began to read the book the same day, parking my car on the side of the road on the way home from class for as long as I had until my husband returned from work, reading behind the steering wheel instead of on my sofa for the sake of peace and privacy. After examining Twitters now open-source recommendation algorithm, tech researcher Steven Tey discovered that there is a United States government intervention tool, which allows US government officials to alter the algorithm.
In March last year, before purchasing the platform, Elon Musk suggested that the recommendation algorithm code should be open source.

Unapproved euthanasia of rats in neuroscience study leads to retraction "IndyWatch Feed Health"
A 2017 paper describing neuroscience research with rats has been retracted after data mis-management, including the mistreatment of the animals, came to light.
The retracted paper was the second by Subimal Datta, a professor of psychology and anesthesiology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to receive a flag for data problems.
The article, BNDF heterozygosity is associated with memory deficits and alterations in cortical and hippocampal EEG power, was published in Behavioural Brain Research and has been cited 14 times, according to Clarivates Web of Science.
The retraction notice, published March 31, stated:
This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief, the Corresponding Author and the Institutional Research Integrity office at the University of Tennessee due to data mis-management of the project, including inappropriate removal of animals from analyses and use of unapproved euthanasia.
The article describes two behavioral experiments using 12 rats, after which the animals were euthanized via isoflurane overdose.
In a third experiment, the researchers implanted EEG electrodes in additional rats and took recordings for 1-2 weeks. Afterwards, the rats:
were deeply anesthetized with ketamine-xylazine (100 mg/kg ketamine, 10 mg/kg xylazine) and perfused transcardially with normal saline and 4% paraformaldehyde. The brains were removed and processed for histological localization of electrode track and EEG recording sites.
The paper also stated that all procedures were performed in accordance with the NIH Guide
for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and approved by the University of Tennessee Animal Care Committee (Protocol Number: 2349-UTK).

In the last few years, NFTs have been the breakout application for Ethereum and other blockchains. While much of this mainstream user base did leave with the drop in NFT prices, many have stayed. But the initial surge in NFT interest drew most of these users to blockchain projects aside from Bitcoin, even though BTC is the largest cryptocurrency by market cap (which is twice the size of Ethereums) and it has the highest level of security and the most proven capacity as a store of value. Unsurprisingly, a protocol like Ordinals arrived to make it possible for NFTs to exist on Bitcoin. It was only a matter of time until someone recognized that Bitcoins staying power could underpin a truly killer app.
Contrary to some complaints, the Ordinals protocol and the capacity to create NFTs on Bitcoin is remarkably great for the future of Bitcoin. With ordinals, we can now inscribe and store non-fungible digital assets on the Bitcoin blockchain. More value stored means even more incentive to participate in the network weve seen this reflected in the increase in Bitcoin nodes operating further driving up the competitiveness of the bitcoin miners and the value of bitcoin.
Its not a fad, either. NFT collectors rushed to pay more than $16 million in bitcoin for 288 Yuga Labs ordinals. Bitcoin NFTs are the new gold standard and only strengthen bitcoins place as the global standard for a store of value.
