Under Kitchen Sink Organizer Shelf "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

Why I Built This

Under our kitchen sink was a serious mess.  I couldn't find anything and the small stuff was taking up just as much space as the big stuff.

For about $10 I built this amazing, simple organizer that turned frustration into storage freedom!

under sink organizer wood

The question is: Why wouldn't you build this?

Customize Easily For YOUR Under Sink Space

This project is designed for you to be able to customize for your sink space, and maximize the storage underneath your sink.

  • If your space allows, the bottom should be left open to allow for pass through storage underneath.
  • Measure your items that need storing and adjust the shelf height so you can fit your items on/under the shelf
  • The shelf depth can be adjusted for a deeper shelf if your plumbing allows

Build with 1 - 1x8 board, 6 feet long

This is a easy to customize project, but if you are looking for can build:

The article discussed how actions would be taken on a Friday and how depositors could be right out of luck. Several readers called it fear porn but as it turns out, it wasnt. This morning, its been announced that the FDIC has taken control of the deposits in Silicon Valley Bank. As of today, Friday, customers are not able to access their accounts.

Financial regulators have closed Silicon Valley Bank and taken control of its deposits, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. announced Friday, in what is the largest bank failure since the Global Financial Crisis more than a decade ago.

The collapse of SVB, a key player in the tech and venture capital community, leaves companies and wealthy individuals largely unsure of what will happen to their money.

According to press releases from regulators, the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation closed SVB and named the FDIC as the receiver. The FDIC in turn has created the Deposit Insurance...

How Heavy Was The Largest Gold Nugget Ever Found? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

When you think about prospecting or mining for gold somewhere like the Yukon, you probably imagine pans with tiny flakes in the bottom, or perhaps a small nugget glinting in the palm of your hand.

What if I told you, then, that the biggest one ever found was heavier than a full-grown man?

The worlds largest gold nugget was found in Victoria, Australia, on February 5th, 1869. John Deason and Richard Oats, two Cornish miners, dubbed their find Welcome Stranger, and recorded its weight as 158.7 pounds.

It was 24 inches long.

The nugget was so large it wouldnt fit on the scale at the London Chartered Bank in Dunolly; they had to break it up before it could be photographed whole.

It was melted down into gold bullion and the men received around 10k euro.

Today, it would likely be worth over 2 million.

The Pepita Canaa is the largest golden nugget still in existence, and it weighs an impressive 134 pounds...

Management Software Can Help Bitcoin Miners Realize Their Energy Potential "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

With effective management software, bitcoin miners can take full advantage of the industrys unique efficiencies and potential profits.

This is an opinion editorial by Mitch Klee, an analyst at the mining management platform Foreman.

After China banned bitcoin mining in May 2021, nearly 75% of global hash rate was dispersed and relocated to other countries such as Kazakhstan, Russia, the United States and Canada. Since the seemingly-devastating mining ban took hold in the mining hotbed of China almost two years ago, the landscape of Bitcoin mining has dramatically changed. Remarkably, hash rate has continued to grow and currently stands at around 320 exahashes per second (EH/s), with the U.S. alone estimated to account for almost 37% of all hashrate.

This hypercompetitive growth has prompted miners to seek more efficient ways to manage their operations at scale, with miner management software being a vital part of their strategy.

Utilizing Bitcoin Mining Management Software

Management software is changing the landscape of Bitcoin mining by allowing mining facilities to manage their site effectively while saving costs and responding to energy grid demand.

Miner management software is a way to organize and coordinate miners at scale. Starting up, configuring, and programming each ASIC is daunting, involving multiple steps such as establishing pool connections, completing firmware updates, managing power control, and diagnosing problematic hash boards. This setup process can be incredibly difficult when not using the right software. However, with effective miner management software, users can effortlessly manage their mines, ensuring optimal performance and productivity.

How to Bear Your Loneliness: Grounding Wisdom from the Great Buddhist Teacher Pema Chdrn "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

We are cheating ourselves when we run away from the ambiguity of loneliness.

How to Bear Your Loneliness: Grounding Wisdom from the Great Buddhist Teacher Pema Chdrn

You are born alone. You die alone. The value of the space in between is trust and love, the artist Louise Bourgeois wrote in her diary. How much trust and love we wrest from life and lavish upon life is largely a matter of how well we have befriended our existential loneliness a fundamental fact of every human existence that coexists with our delicate interconnectedness, each a parallel dimension of our lived reality, each pulsating beneath our days.

In When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times (public library) her timeless field guide to transformation through difficult times the Buddhist teacher Pema Chdrn explores what it takes to cultivate a nonthreatening relationship with loneliness, to transmute it into a different kind of relaxing and cooling loneliness that subverts our ordinary terror of the existential void.

He Wouldnt Get Off of an Elevator When a Mom With Seven Kids Demanded It. Is He a Jerk? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Im someone who really, really doesnt like crowded elevators, so theres no way in Hell Id be getting onto one that was as packed as the one youre gonna read about in this story.

But she mustve had her reasons for acting this way, right?

Check out her story below and let us know in the comments if you think she acted like an a**hole.

AITA for not taking the next elevator when a mom with 7 children demanded it of me?

A neighbour of mine has 7 children and they are all under the age of 9.

I have seen her many times, and she always demands people take the next elevator because she has kids who need to get home. She has physically shoved into the elevators and forced people out, including my elderly father.

I was on my way home from work I take public transit and she was on the bus with all kids. They were screaming and running up and down the aisle; basically making such a scene that the driver asked her to have the kids sit down before they get hurt.

Sure enough, one of the kids was spinning around one of the poles and bumped her head as we were going over the train tracks near my place and started screaming. She looked like she was physically okay, no blood, not even a red mark, but she screeched the rest of the ride to the building.

I was first in the building and hit the elevator button. She came in with her double stroller and her gaggle of children running around her as I stepped into the elevator and held the door for her. She told me that I would have to get out and wait for the next one.

I said excuse me? She heavy sighed at me and said my stroller wont fit in with you in here. Get out and take the next one. I refused, saying I would make myself as tiny as I could but I was stayi...

8 Ways To Release The Pain Of Loving Someone You Cannot Be With "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Love can be a wonderful thing, or love can be pure hell. For those who end up in relationships with people that they simply cannot stay with, it can be really hard to let go.

Its one thing to have someone dump you and then completely cut contact. Yes, it hurts, but at the same time, you know there is nothing you can do. However, when you are forced to break up with someone and make an active choice not to be with someone, it is a different kind of pain. Its not easy to tell your heart no. But, there are really good reasons to sometimes. Perhaps your partner cheated, or perhaps the relationship was just flat-out toxic. Whatever the reason is, here are 8 ways to let go and move on.

1. Feel the pain, and allow yourself time to grieve.

The way out is through, and while that might just sound like something people say, there is a lot of wisdom in those few words. At the end of the day, the more you try to run from your feelings or trick yourself into forgetting, the more you will have to face later on. Its better to go ahead and face it now and grieve the loss.

2. Do not entertain the idea of what if.

It might be tempting to sit around and wonder what would have happened if things would have worked out. What if I just go back? you might ask. I implore you, do not to go through these mental gymnastics, because it isnt worth your sanity.

3. Cut contact entirely.

It may seem like a tough call to make, but if a relationship is toxic or has no chance, do not cling to it. Dont go around this person, hoping for things to magically work one day. They wont. You have to cut contact if you expect to move on. Yes, there are exceptions to this, such as if you have kids with this person. However, if you dont have a REAL reason to be around this person, just dont.

4. Avoid situations that could be sketchy.

Avoid situations that will cause you pain. If you know your ex will be at a party you are going to, dont go. If you know their best friend will be there, reminding you of your pain, just skip the party. You know what you can handle and what you cannot.

5. Give up on closure.

Go ahead and allow yourself to forget about getting closure. I hate to say it, but you arent going to get it. If you really just cannot let go without getting closure, write a goodbye letter and burn it.

6. Create a support system.

Build yourself a support system of friends and family that you trust. Go to them and ask them to remind you of why you left in the first place when you are feeling like backstepping.

7. Be honest with yourself.

You need to be honest with yourself about why this relationship had to end. It may be hard, but you need to be brutally honest with yourself. Sit down and write down why you cannot be with them, and be blunt about it.

Woman Asks If Shes Wrong for Cancelling a Trip After Finding Her Husband Hid Her Daughters Passport? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

If theres one thing the internet has taught me, its that there are way too many people hanging around in terrible relationships for far, far too long.

I think youll agree this OP falls into that category after you read about how her husband is treating her daughter shortly into their marriage.

She claims hes a man of god, but as theyre attempting to blend their family, shes noticed that he complains about her daughter often. Shes either not trying hard enough to spend time with his kids, not watching his kids when he asks, or is making his kids uncomfortable with her attitude.

My husband and I have been together for 3 years. He has 3 kids from his previous relationship and I have one. Shes the oldest (17). Hes a dedicated man, puts God first and loves everyone.

My husband always complains that my daughter doesnt spend time with her step siblings or him but she has reasons for that and that is school, health issues and work.

She does her best to spend as much time with them as she can. but she on the other hand complains that her stepdad tells her to basically take on the role of a babysitter whenever shes with her stepsiblings.

My husband denied that and said that my daughter was making up excuses to not have to spend time with his kids.

In an attempt to help the family bond, OP booked a vacation for everyone. Her husband wanted to exclude her daughter, since staying home alone would make her happy, but OP told him to knock it off.

For this issue, I figured that a family trip is what the family need to get together and spend more time around each others.

My husband liked the idea but said that his kids are now uncomfortable around my d...

She Wont Help Out Her Homeless Parents. Is She Going Too Far? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Where do you draw the line when it comes to helping out family members?

It can definitely be a very touchy subjectand it can be even more complicated when it comes to parents.

So is this woman an a**hole for not helping out her homeless parents?

Read on to see what happened and let us know what you think in the comments.

AITA for not helping my parents when they are homeless?

My parents are terrible with money.

When I(27F) was little my father gambled away all the saving about $100,000 in risky penny stocks which got wiped out in 2008 and we were forced to move into a single bedroom in a house for the 3 of us.

Then my mom fell for an MLM and you can image what happened, they lost the down payment to the house they were saving for. I begged them not to sign up for it since I saw it was clearly a scam and showed them evidence it was and they just laughed at me and ignored me.

They lost about $28,000 from that. Then recently they fall for a college signup scam and lost $32,000. They werent signing up for college they just needed a loan and tried to go though a private broker who promised to get them a school loan that they would use on whatever they wanted.

I went with them to see the broker and told them it was a scam and they ignored me. So basically they were trying to scam the government and got scammed instead. I actually tried to pry the pen away from my father hands when I got desperate as he was writing down his bank info and SSN and he screamed at me I was embarrassing him and did it anyway.

Again they lost money and now they are homeless because their credit is c**p and they can barely afford even c**ppy apartments. They probably cant get that money back since they have little documentation on the broker and what he promised. Now they live in their c...

In order for a big government that confiscates taxes, uses threats of imprisonment to control a frustrated and disenchanted public, and will even scheme to entrap those whose ideology is in conflict with their agenda, you must be misled! In reviewing the past recent years it appears not only is it not that hard, but it is the basis for which they operate! You are lazy enough to accept lies. They know this. You are gullible enough to believe the mainstream media, which they own. This they know too. Our federal government no longer operates under the constraints of the US Constitution. This they are aware that you most likely dont know. Just like the press corps that is no longer free, they also know they can tell you who to vote for and who to hate. They are very successful at this because you have allowed them to get away with it!

Method to the madness

One of their most important tools is the false narrative. This is the backbone of their entire power as when the masses are nave they are much easier to control. So, if youre a Democrat candidate you will be sure and accuse those guys across the aisle of the same thing that youre doing-lying! Since Democrats have adopted the entire Communist doctrine of political activism they know you will obey, you will blindly agree, and you will submit to the illusions they put in front of you. You have earned this medal of merit because you are easy to manipulate. They told you to hate Donald J. Trump, and you complied! Didnt make a difference that the man worked 7 days a week on your behalf and remained in the White House many times while Congress was out on recess. Didnt make a difference that his policies unleashed record economic growth, record employment of all races, security on the southern border, or the biggest tax break in US history. Why? Because you are too unconcerned, too pre-occupied, and too uninformed to care. Oh, and they told you already, Hate Trump! You monkey!

Learn About the Importance of Cairns (And Why You Shouldnt Make Your Own)

Cairn in Zion National Park

Photo: Veisha Flickr (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0)

If you've ever been on a hiking trail and seen a manmade stack of rocks, then you've encountered a cairn. Since prehistoric times, humans have stacked rocks as waymarkers or memorials. Scotland, in particular, is rife with cairns and, in fact, the word comes from the Gaelic word crn meaning heap of stones. In more modern times, cairns have been used to mark trails and mountains, help give directions, and even provide wind shelters.

But, people are increasingly building their own cairns without understanding their true purpose, and this is cause for concern. Sometimes celebrated as a zen practice, building cairns can have consequences. By adding cairns to trails without any consideration, it's possible to confuse hikers who use the rock stacks as directional markers. They can also disturb the environment, robbing the animals who live under the rocks of their shelter. The practice can also dislodge plants and inadvertently cause soil erosion. At the same time, it's also not wise to add to or knock over existing cairns, as you might confuse hikers who used authorized rock stacks as directional markers.

For these reasons, it's technically illegal to practice rock stacking in National Parks. While not always widely enforced, rangers consider these stacks to be rock graffiti' and will take them down when theyre spotted or discourage visitors caught building them, notes the Zion National Park hiking guide. All parks take a ...

Actor Jamie Lee Curtis has always been outspoken. From declaring herself pro-aging to sparking conversations regarding female friendship, Curtis uses her platform to inspire change. And now, she's made another statement that is getting a lot of attention. The actor is calling for matinee concerts, allowing her and fellow early risers to go to bed at a reasonable time.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the Independent Spirit Awards, Curtis revealed that she had skipped an Oscar nominees dinner because of its late start time. Why? Because mommy goes to bed early, Curtis said. Cause 7:30 is gonna be nine before we get food, and you know what? Theres nothing good happening with me after nine oclock. Nothing. Zero!

Curtis furthered her complaint and threw in a staple of late-night entertainmentconcerts. I am gonna just say this now as a taunt and as a suggestion. U2: do a matinee. Coldplay: do a matinee. ICA Philadelphia Presents Artist and Filmmaker Terence Nances First Solo Museum Exhibition "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania (ICA) and BlackStar Projects present Terence Nance: Swarm, the first solo museum exhibition dedicated to the artists genre-defying and innovative practice. Curated by Maori Karmael Holmes, Swarm highlights Nances experimentation in film, television, sound, and performance through the presentation of six large-scale, multi-channel videos and installations that he reimagined specifically for the exhibition.

As a filmmaker, writer, actor, and musician, Nance brings an interdisciplinary approach to his practice, offering unexpected and alternative paths for creating work that layers video, sound, printed matter, and live performance in contemporary environments. He first gained national recognition for his semi-animated feature film, An Oversimplification of Her Beauty, at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012. He debuted another seminal work, Random Acts of Flyness, at the BlackStar Film Festival in 2018. Now a Peabody Award-winning HBO series, the show examines contemporary Black life in America and returned for a second season this past December.

Iranian Regime Forces Girls to Watch Pornography to Deter Protests "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Media outlets IranWire and Iran International have learned that the Islamic Republic regime forced Iranian secondary schoolgirls to watch pornographic videos to deter them from joining the protests that have rocked Iran since September.

According to their reports, Iranian security forces visited schools in several cities across Iran, including Tehran, to force girls to watch these pornographic films. Most of them came in civilian clothing.

The first instance, as reported by IranWire, came in October last year when schoolgirls in the courtyard of the Shahid Reihane-ul-Nabi school in Bandar-e Mahshahr gathered to protest and chant slogans against the regime.

Shortly after, a cleric accompanied by men wearing uniforms and plain clothes and a woman wearing a hijab visited the school and gathered girls in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades in a classroom.

They then forced schoolgirls to watch films depicting graphic scenes of rape and even sexual intercourse between humans and animals, hoping to discourage them from joining the women-led demonstrations and to convince them that their demands would lead to sexual and moral decadence in Iran.

Although fixed in glazed and fired ceramic, Claire Lindners voluptuous sculptures are primed for movement as they appear to crawl along walls or sprout upward like the leaves of a plant. Mimicking the spongy texture of living specimens like fungi, sea moss, and roots, the works embody several dualities from hard and soft to stasis and growth. The lively pieces also reference the relationship between biological processes and human intervention, as the artist (previously) sculpts organic forms and covers them with unnaturally bold gradients.

Lindner, whos based in the countryside in Montpellier, has one work in Within + Without on view through April 6 at Unit London and will be included in the LOEWE Foundation group show scheduled for May at the Noguchi Museum in New York. Woman Sparks Controversy by Lighting Cigarette with Burning Hindu Holy Text "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

A video showing an Indian woman burning a copy of Manusmriti, an ancient Sanskrit text often described as a code of conduct for Hindus, went viral on social media last Sunday. It comes at a time when India is experiencing a rise in Hindu nationalist sentiment.

Social media users identified the woman in the video as 27-year-old Priya Das, who lives in the northeastern state of Bihar. She was also recognized as a state secretary for the womens wing of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, a political party in Bihar and Jharkhand that fights for the rights of Dalits and other lower castes and religious minorities.

In the video, she was shown cooking chicken on a stove. She then lit a copy of the Manusmriti on fire and lit a cigarette with the book now in flames.

Priyas act received mixed reactions from many netizens in India. While she was praised for standing up against oppression, others didnt see her actions positively. They even said the book-burning act was directed toward Hindus and promoted intolerance against them.

Malaysia to "Fight Islamophobia" with $2 Million Quran Distribution Plan "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The Malaysian government revealed its plans to counter Islamophobia by distributing copies of the Quran translated into several languages, setting aside more than $2 million in its 2023 budget.

This would be the first time the country embarked on such a plan under Malaysias new prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim. Twenty thousand copies produced under the project would be sent to Sweden, where a far-right Swedish-Danish activist Rasmus Paludan lit the Quran on fire while staging protests.

After attending an event called International Forum on Islamophobia held in Malaysias administrative capital Putrajaya, prime minister Anwar Ibrahim told the media that the 10 million Malaysian ringgit (equivalent to 2.2 million US dollars) set aside from the program is meant to foster greater understanding of Islam.

We will print 20,000 in Swedish and other languages too for the purpose of better understanding, the prime minister told reporters. Why it has become an issue is because those against Islam never read the holy book. . So, we have to go back to the text or at least the translation to save and enlighten others about the deeper meaning of the religion.

Anwar believes the translations, distribution, and publication of the Quran in several languages would show maturity and wisdom on Malaysias part amidst growing anti-Muslim sentiment worldwide.

Yes, we must protest, but it is also important we must give our understanding and do our utmost to ensure the message of the Quran is alive, Anwar said, according to local media sources.

Swedens ambassador to Malaysia, Joachim Bergstrm, welcomed Anwars plan announcement.

A mob in Indias southern state of Telangana attacked an atheist activist while inside a police van, according to reports by Indian media outlets. The assault happened in the states Hanamkonda district.

On February 27th, anti-caste and atheist activist Bairi Naresh, also the chief of the Bharata Nasthika Samajam (Atheist Society of India) for Telangana, was informed while attending an event at a law college in Gopalapuram that a mob of Hindu nationalists was planning to assault him. He was arrested last year for criticizing the Hindu god Ayappa and is currently out on bail.

A well-wisher of mine reached out to me and said that there are some BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party] and RSS [Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh] activists outside, Naresh told The Times of India. Fearing an attack on me, I contacted police, who provided me protection and arranged a vehicle for safe transport. But en route, the attackers stopped the police vehicle and then repeatedly attacked me.

A video showing a group of Hindu nationalists trying to assault Naresh while he was inside the police van while police officers were dragging the men away was shared on Twitter by an Indian lawyer named Dr. B. Jerusalem's Chief Rabbi Blames LGBT Rights for Earthquake Aftershocks "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Jerusalems Sephardic chief rabbi, Shlomo Amar, has been criticized for saying that the recent earthquake aftershocks in Israel were caused by the countrys decision to give the LGBTQIA+ community rights and freedoms.

He made the shocking claims during a weekly sermon and even used a passage from the Talmud, the primary source of Jewish theology and religious law, to justify his comments.

"It's not me interpreting; it's the language of the Gemara, Amar said, quoting from the Jewish religious text as stated by the Jerusalem Post. "God said you are shocking your people for something that is not yours,

After the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria that killed tens of thousands and displaced millions, Israel experienced several aftershocks, reportedly felt as far as Cyprus and Egypt.

Israeli journalist and news anchor Ori Koel, who is himself a gay man, used a portion of his broadcast to respond to Amars bizarre comments.

"As a gay man, Rabbi Amar, and as someone who was sent on behalf of this channel to Turkey to cover the earthquakes, it's good to know that, in your opinion, my community members and I are responsible for this disaster," Koel said. "Perhaps at the same time, you can blame us (the LGBTQ+ community) for the cost of living and inflation?

"You (should) be ashamed of your dark views," Koel continued. "In a democratic, western, and progressive country, a person like you should not receive a salary from the taxpayers' money.

Although the rabbi was slammed for these remarks, this wouldnt be the first time Amar made outlandish homophobic statements. In 2016, he described homosexuals as a cult of abomination and argued that they should be sentenced to death as per Jewish law.

In many cases, Black women are diagnosed once the disease has progressed to the latter stages. Breast cancer awareness has increased over the past decades with more resources dedicated to helping catch the first sign of alarm. But even still, a majority of them depict how the symptoms appear on lighter skin. In an effort to help women of color understand how cancer manifests on darker skin, Toronto-based lingerie company <a href="https://loveandnudes.com/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Love & Nudes joined forces with advertising agency McCann Toronto for a project titled the Stage Zero collection.

Love & Nudes created a series of self-examination tools with the help of Dr. Mojola Omole, a surgical oncologist who oversaw the collection as the chief medical officer. According to the company, these are the first breast cancer screening bra attachments for Black women and women of color. Through 3D attachments and makeup work, these garments allow women to see, touch and feel the subtle changes in texture and shape in four different dark skin tones: Espresso Empress, Butterscotch Beauty, Knockout Nutmeg, and Honey Love.

The company lists the three main symptomspeau d'orange, lumps, and discolorationand how they are replicated on its bras. The peau d'orange, or orange peel texture was recreated by casting a silicone mold so the wearer can perceive inflammatory breast cancers dimpling. For the lumps, it created 3D-printed models and situated them exactly where they appear on the breast. As hard as a pea and bumpy like a kaffir lime, both lumps are true to life in size and shape, the company writes. To achieve the effect of discoloration, it worked with a world-renowned makeup artist to illustrate what looks like on a range of skin tones.</p> <p>The bras dont mean anything if the person is not...</p>

Public Art Festival Will Turn Manhattan Street Into a Runway "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

For the 15th consecutive year, Art in Odd Places (AiOP) will be returning to Lower Manhattan from October 13 to 15. The collaborative art project is best known for engaging passersby in public art through its outdoor weekend festival celebrating visual and performance work. AiOP has announced an open call for project proposals pertaining to this years theme, Dress, chosen by selected curator and participating artist Gretchen Vitamvas. The proposal submission deadline is Sunday, May 14.

Born in 2005, AiOP was developed in response to the disappearance of civil liberties and the surveillance of public space after the events of 9/11, founder and director Ed Woodham told Hyperallergic. The project found its annual home on 14th Street between Avenue C and the Hudson River in 2008 and has been ensnaring the curious public for one weekend a year since then (save for 2020).

Its all about taking art from places that people often didnt want to go inside, like a gallery space or a museum or a theater, due to socioeconomic, educational, and personal comfort differences, and making it less precious and more accessible, Woodham continued. With that in mind, one of the tenets of AiOP is to not shove art onto people in public spaces, but t...

Season of Grapes "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

As I was going to enter college that fall my parents felt that I should build myself up at a summer camp of some sort. They sent me down to a place in the Ozarks on a beautiful lake. It was called a camp but it was not just for boys. It was for both sexes and all ages. It was a rustic, comfortable place. But I was disappointed to find that most of the young people went to another camp several miles down the lake toward the dam. I spent a great deal of time by myself that summer, which is hardly good for a boy of seventeen.

It was a dry summer. There were very few days of rain. But the Ozark country with its gentle green hills and clear lakes and rivers did not turn ugly and brown as most countries do in seasons of drought. The willows along the lake remained translucently green, while the hillside forests, toward the end of July, began to look as though they had been splashed with purple, red, and amber wine. Their deepening colors did not suggest dryness nor stoppage of life. They looked, rather, like a flaming excess, a bursting opulence of life. And the air, when you drove through the country in an open car, was faintly flavored with wine, for the grapes grew plentifully that season. While the cornfields yellowed and languished, the purple grapes fairly swarmed from their vines, as though they had formed some secret treaty with nature or dug into some hidden reservoir of subterranean life, and the lean hill-folk piled them into large white baskets and stood along the sunny roads and highways crying, Grapes, grapes, grapes, so that your ears as well as your eyes and nostrils and mouth were filled with them, until it seemed that the whole body and soul of the country was somehow translated into this vast efflorescence of sweet purple fruit.

Perhaps it was the intoxicating effect of the wine-flavored air, perhaps it was only the novelty of being so much by myself, but I fell tha...

Fantasy Notebooks and Pencils

Whether you're an artist, writer, or just someone who needs a place to jot down your thoughts, a dependable notebook is a must-have. But for many people, not just any journal will do. After all, sketchbooks and notebooks are an opportunity to express your individuality and aesthetic. Fortunately, for fans of all things fantasy, Canada-based artist Nad, aka Les Nadises, creates exquisite notebooks and pencils that will surely spark your imagination.

Originally from France, Nad spent 15 years creating cartoons in Paris. After moving to Montreal, she turned over a new leaf. I felt like starting over in my professional life, I started enjoying drawing again and decided to get back into sculpture. In the course of my various creative adventures, I ended up creating accessories for witchcraft lovers.

Each of the notebooks features a three-dimensional cover sculpted from polymer clay and painted with high-quality acrylic paint. I grew up in the 80s, so all the fantasy movies like The Neverending Story, Willow, Legend, Dark Crystal and many others have developed my imagination, Nad adds. She also creates wandlike pencils from clay and waterproof paint, which pair perfectly with any of the fierce notebook designs.

You can find available notebooks and pencils via Nad's Etsy shop.

All images Kellie Swanson, shared with permission

Artist and photographer Kellie Swanson imprints jackets, jeans, and other garments with the rich blue of cyanotypesan early form of photography that uses UV light to produce monochromatic printsas part of her burgeoning clothing line KSX. With grainy textures that complement the weave of fabrics, the brilliantly hued wearables feature natural specimens like ferns and flowers found around Swansons home in Bozeman, Montana. All of the garments are secondhand, and the artist sources most from thrift stores and vintage shops, ensuring KSX takes a more sustainable approach in an industry infamous for its waste.

Swanson began the upcycling project in 2020 as a way to re-engage her creative practice, and its since yielded several collaborations and collections, which sell incredibly fast. The next shop update is set for later this month, so keep an eye on Instagram to snag a piece.

Morrisons Infinity Knots: Sites of Memory at Princeton "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Visiting Toni Morrison: Sites of Memory, on exhibit at Princeton Universitys Firestone Library from now through June 4, 2023, is like going to a sauna. You enter a warm, windowless space, and as you rotate your way through each experience, you find youre dunked suddenly into something that barrages the sensesfire-singed early drafts, a detailed map, alternate endings for Beloved, the photograph that inspired Jazz. But its also like taking a cold plunge: youre carried along on the continuous current of Morrisons voice and work, and you duck out refreshed, tingling, alive with more possibilities than youd realized there could be.

The exhibit pays careful attention to the geography of imagined space, as well as the processes by which Morrisons novelswhich seem so inevitable in their final formtook years of wrangling, revising, discarding, drafting, and re-forming. In her essay The Site of Memory, Morrison writes:

All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was. Writers are like that: remembering where we were, what valley we ran through, what the banks were like, the light that was there and the route back to our original place. It is emotional memorywhat the nerves and the skin remember as well as how it appeared. And a rush of imagination is our flooding.

Seniors Recreate Rihannas Super Bowl Performance, Get Roses From the Pop Superstar

Senior Ladies Dancing to Rihanna

Rihanna's Super Bowl Half Time show sent ripples throughout pop culture, from Justina Miles' ASL performance to the conversations it started around motherhood and work. On top of that, it spawned myriad memes and reinterpretations, including some wholesome versions. The residents of Arcadia Senior Living Bowling Green in Kentucky got together to record a TikTok that paid tribute to Rihanna's performance, and the result is wonderful.

The 12-second video features the Super Bowl remix of Rude Boy and a group of women all dressed in white, just like Rihanna's backup dancers. They move to the sides (one with the help of a walker) to reveal 87-year-old Dora Martin, who portrays Rihanna with a microphone and a red outfit, cheerfully dancing along to the music.

The video has earned over 30 million views and 3.7 million likes, and it's even found some A-list fans. Rihanna as well as Jay-Z decided to send roses to the senior living facility where the stars of the video reside. The delivery included 100 red roses with the message, We love the TikTok here at Roc Nation, referencing his entertainment company, which boasts Rihanna on their artist roster.

The singer herself sent a bouquet of white roses with a card that described the video as amazing. The Arcadia Senior Living Bowling Green team shared a picture of the flower arrangement with the caption, The moment weve hoped for, Rihanna has delivered!

Riding a high from the viral status of the video, the flowers and the kind words further uplifted the elderly women. It makes you younger to know that you can keep up with them, Martin said regarding the response to her dancing in the video. It keeps you young. I feel like Im 16 years old....

Chunky Leg Desk "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

About This Desk

This is a very simple desk, made using 2x6 legs and a 1x top.  The modern styling creates a beautiful frame for your decor and compliments your space.

This desk can be painted or stained any color.

Why I Built This Desk

I am working on furnishing an airbnb rental, and needed a beautiful desk that is sturdy, good looking, inexpensive and easy to make.  I did not need storage.  I had built the coffee table and end table years ago and always loved the styling.  So I decided to use that same style and build this desk.

More Plans in This Collection

I love this style so much, I made more plans in this collection.  I'll keep adding to it - it is a beautiful style!

How I Build This Desk

This desk was a pretty easy build.  I used a pocket hole jig to make the piece look more professional, with all hidden joints.  The pocket hole jig also made it more sturdy.  If you don't have a pocket hole jig, watch how I made the matching coffee table with just a brad nailer.

First, I build the tabletop surface in the size I wanted.

Then I used a jigsaw to cut out the corners of the tabletop for the legs to show through.

Essential Two Step Stool "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

This stool might look a little complicated, but I promise you - if you can squeeze a jigsaw trigger, you can make it.  It's just sides cut from a 1x12, a 1x12 bottom step, a 1x6 top step, and some 1x2s in there for extra support.  Once you get it cut out, it's like 10 minutes to make.

It's got a full, wide bottom step, so I have found myself even using it.

Durable Finish

Not only has this step stool held up well in sturdiness, but the finish really is amazing me.  The stool is still in very good shape for ten years of use!

Our power sander won't sand a curved cut, so these sanding pads work pretty good.

Another note - I was able to get a pretty good jigsaw cut on the two sides by using a fresh wood blade and clamping the two sides together and cutting as one.  This really helps minimize the need for sanding.

After vacuuming the step stool ... we are ready for primer!

I used this Glidden Trim and Door paint and am amazed at how well the finish has held up.  It was a paint to use because it's oil based, but so worth it.

I'll admit, I was a little nervous when I peeked in the paint room and took a look in the can - the paint seperates out so you must mix it.  Nothing a little gentle stirring can't fix.
